Went there to eat today, ordered a bacon cheese burger and fries not too bad but my wife's rib eye sandwich was pathetic it was 90% fat. I don't know what to say except that Helen Keller must be cooking in the kitchen and they have zero knowledge about quality control. Nothing wrong with Windmill the food is fine, it's ready pretty quickly, and the servers are nice. There aren't a lot of places nearby from which to choose to eat and this is where we always come when we're in town for work. My coworker and I were astonished at the prices for many of the items -- $15 burgers? I recall having a burger a few years back and I don't think it was that expensive. We also saw several salads that were $17. I'm guessing -- and hoping -- that they are very large salads. I got the meatloaf sandwich special for $10.95 and it included mashed potatoes. I like my meal. I would have liked to have added a side salad but we didn't really have time today and I was a little afraid of how much a side salad would cost. There's a nice gift shop here and it appears that the ice cream treats are a big draw though I don't recall ever having one or seeing anyone else having one. I like the old time capsule feel of this place. I only have had simple breakfast stuff and it's passable and pretty cheap. They can fry an egg. The home fries aren't crispy but they are edible. First I want to start off saying that our servers were very nice, attentive and apologetic. That being said... we started off with the corn chowder soup which was just ok. My husband ordered the California burger and I ordered the roasted chicken special. When I cut into the chicken pink juices came out. It was obviously undercooked. I told our server that I did not want to get sick. She understood and asked if I would like them to cook it more. I said no because I was concerned the chicken would be put back on the contaminated plate so I asked for a burger instead. Both of our burgers were bland and the fries were undercooked. We use to come here years ago and the food was good. Not sure what has happened but it has gone downhill. We will not be returning. Had a great experience here on 6/26/2024. We were in Morgantown to visit family and tried this establishment for an early dinner. Our server Zoe was friendly and knowledgeable. It was our first visit so my wife and I appreciated the recommendations. The portions are generous so we split a bowl of homemade chicken corn soup (very good) and a garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing (fresh and delicious). We ordered the chicken parm which came with spaghetti and garlic bread. It too was tasty and filling. The bill was very reasonable and we loved the ambiance of the restaurant. The hostess Mary Jo was also pleasant and welcoming. From what I understand this restaurant is known for PA Dutch dishes so I look forward to sampling more of their menu in the future. We stopped here because my companion recalled coming here with his mom years ago and it was very good. Well, that was then. All I kept thinking about during this debacle was that it came right out of a "Seinfeld" episode. Or even "Kitchen Nightmares." Gordon, where were you when we needed you? Our server, Z, is inexperienced, untrained, and unsupervised -- and it shows. Seriously, who brings desserts and sets them down on a table cluttered with dirty dinner dishes, and needs the customers to remind her to clear them? But let's start at the beginning. I ordered fried chicken knowing it would be a 25-minute wait. At roughly the 25-minute mark, with dinner rolls and my companion's salad long since consumed, Z came to apologize that "somehow" the ticket for my fried chicken hadn't been submitted, so ... you guessed it. At that point I should have ordered something else but instead I opted for an appetizer. She asked me what I wanted without offering to show me a menu; I had to ask her for one. She went to get it, brought it back, waited several seconds before realizing I needed time to look it over, and ONLY THEN said, "I'll go now and 'resubmit' the order." WTF?!? When I ordered seafood bisque, the soup du jour, Z brought it promptly (I saw her dishing it out of a vat). It was lukewarm soup, not bisque and not tasting of seafood, with chewy, off-tasting bits of -- what, faux seafood perhaps? -- floating in it. I finished most of the soup and left most of the bits. I should have sent the whole thing back but I was too hungry to care. During our second 25-minute wait, Z returned a few times to continue to apologize and appreciate our patience. What she didn't do was notice that we were done with salad, bread, and soup, and clear the table. Nor did she notice that my water glass was empty; I had to ask her to refill it. When dinner finally arrived, the crustless chicken pot pie my companion ordered was a bone-in chicken leg sitting in a thin soupy "sauce" together with carrot pieces and many potato chunks. It didn't look very appetizing from where I was sitting, but he said it was fine despite the fact that he had to work so hard. If he'd known he'd have to wrestle with bones in his pot pie, he never would have ordered it. My fried chicken came out hot, with a crispy, tasty coating. Three of the four pieces -- wing, drum, thigh -- were fine. The breast was overcooked and very dry; I had a hard time choking it down. My side of coleslaw was okay. The pickled beets were likely from a can (I've had tastier from the supermarket). For dessert, my companion said his shoofly pie was good. I had the warm apple dumpling. The sauce made the crust soggy, but it tasted fine. The ambience is diner-like, as expected. The restroom was a little wonky, but okay. The Windmill did give us 15% off our bill because of the error (I frankly think it should have been more). Even so, I would not say that our meal was worth the money. We found ourselves here because pretty much every other option within a ten minute drive was closed (on a Sunday). There seemed a decent amount of cars in the lot as well so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is home to an ice cream parlor (window service), gift shop, and diner (with bar and table/booth seating). We were seated soon after arriving and sat to peruse the menu. We ended up ordering a turkey platter (mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce) and chicken cheese steak. The chicken cheese steak was literally served as chopped chicken breast with melted cheese all over, the roll (a super soft potato-bread type roll) was not appropriate for the type of sandwich. It was a challenge to eat since the roll was not firm enough to support the weight of the chicken inside. The turkey platters my grandmother and sister ordered were sizable and tasted fine. They did end up taking a lot of it home. Ice cream wise, I believe they were out of something so we couldn't get the banana split we had planned on ordering. (I think they only had soft serve that day, according to our server). Trying to pay for the check, we waited at the counter for probably close to 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We were in town doing some shopping and I remember passing the windmill. I've been passing by this diner/restaurant for most of my life. Growing up in Coatesville, PA this was your halfway point to Birdsboro/Reading area. I finally decided to give it a try. It was ok. The prices were great, and the service was ok. Three of us drove to Morgantown for the apple dumplings. This restaurant was a decent size, and has ample parking. In the front, there's a diner and a gift-shop type area. We sat in the dining room, which was decorated with regional and religious paraphernalia. Their menu has a lot of choices: appetizers, soups, salads, burgers (broiled), items from the griddle, hot and cold sammiches, choice meats, seafood, poultry, Pennsylvania Dutch favorites, Italian specialities (including pasta). Hungry? They have a selection of beverages, vegetables/sides, breakfast choices, and dessert and ice cream treats. To start, we shared onion rings and chicken fingers. I went for a cup of their homemade chicken corn soup, too - a first for me! For my entree, I had their Windmill Burger ($6), a patty topped with bacon and cheddar cheese, with lettuce, tomato, and mayo on a sesame bun. On the side I had cole slaw and French fries. The whole package worked (tender and enjoyable), and I washed my burger down with a thick chocolate milkshake. (FYI, My fellow diner got a tuna melt sandwich ($5.50) which had melted swiss and american cheeses on grilled rye bread. I forget what diner #3 had...) Stopped in for a quick breakfast last week. Expecting a good old-fashioned not fancy diner. That's what this place is. It's what I wanted. I got the corn beef hash with two eggs over easy and the home fries. I also got a couple of biscuits. I was starving. The corn beef hash was fairly tasteless and most likely came out of a can. It was not a generous portion. The two eggs over easy came well done. And the home fries were utterly tasteless. The biscuits were fine, but nothing special. While driving from Philly, back to Columbus, Ohio, we decided to stop at a diner for some breakfast. After reviewing Yelp for diners that seemed to allow black people (a real thing to think of when stopping at a small town), I felt this may be a decent place. Just reviewing the photos, I saw a bright-smiled lady of color and I that was enough for me. So as we arrived, i loved the look of the big windmill out front and seeing the gift center right at the front. It reminded me of Cracker Barrel. As we walked in, it seemed like everyone stopped and stared. Not the workers, but the patrons. Everyone who was eating at the front counter stared until we say. I had to nod and smile at two guys just to have them snap out of it. It was weird. We sat for about 5 mins before our server, Wayne came and spoke. Then after his acknowledgement, the bright-smiled lady from the pictures came by and greeted us and made sure we were acknowledged. At that point we felt more comfortable and decided to stay. If she wouldnt have spoke or been there, we just would have got coffee and left. I got the vegetarian omelette and my wife got the strawberry french toast. I knew not to get anything with "strawberry" bc the menu said it was strawberry sauce. Yuck. She didnt read that and was disappointed by her choice. My food wasnt bad. It could have used some seasoning. Her food didnt look appealing so I didnt try it. There was way too much sauce on the french toast. So much she had to scrape it off. I don't see how that is actually on the menu. Ive watched enough Bar Rescue episodes to know that canned ingredients are a big no-no. Pros: Service was fine, the place looked clean, and there's a lot of space. Cons: Food took a while to come out, canned ingredients, and the ambiance wasn't as welcoming as I would like. read more

We stopped in on a Saturday while touring the area. We were greeting promptly and seated. Service was friendly, atmosphere is relaxing and food was good plus reasonably priced. I knew this but thought it was nice as someone who did not grow up near Amish would be surprised. Only thing disappointing was the gift shop. Lehigh Valley Wine Tours (that's me!) brought 26 beautiful women-ages 25 to 7, for a day of fun in the rolling Pennsylvania hillsides for beautiful scenery, friendship, music, laughter, food and wine! Our last winery was Kingdom of Grapes (KOG) then right across the street to the Windmill for dinner. I could go on and on but will simply say that from the first phone call to our final goodbyes, everything was perfect. The charming, helpful, welcoming owners and staff; the cute windmill theme, the great prices and of course the FOOD! Everything exceeded expectations. I was actually expecting my pre-ordered Broiled Stuffed Flounder to be one of those mass-produced frozen 'Food-Pak' atrocities, but to my surprise and delight they were all large delicious and hand stuffed. My Group Leader said hers was so good she might have to send me down here once a week to bring some back to Northampton, Pa. Sounds good to me! Every one of my passengers was thrilled with the food and service. My 5-star review doesn't mean I'm comparing the Windmill with Four Seasons or other high end dining BUT everything was perfect for an average of less than $15 per person we all had plenty of delicious, fresh, well-prepared food served with the greatest courtesy and friendly, personal attention. I was in Morgantown today with a friend after a year of being quarantined! We could not wait to go shopping on a beautiful day (still wearing masks and being socially distant though). Our day unfortunately was ruined by the worse lunch ever at the Windmill Family Restaurant. Since it is Lent we decided to stay away from meat products with today being Friday. The clam strips were fishy tasting. The fried pierogis were blah but passable. The crab soup was not too bad, but the crab toast was a real joke. The bread was not even toasted and it had a very skimpy amount of fake crab covered with cheese. We sent most of our food back and the waitress and another server helping us never even questioned us as to why so much of the food was not consumed. I did not want to argue with them and have our bill reduced because clearly they are already hurting. This lousy meal cost us $40 plus tip for two of us. Not worth $48 for sure! Honestly we would have been better off with a McDonald's fish sandwich and fries! We were seated in the back dining room which felt safe as far as COVID-19 goes but it had a very musty smell! I grew up in this area. When we used to go to the Windmill, it wasn't a meal, it was an occasion! The food was always good to great, the place was kept very best and clean, and the gift shop was also quite the experience! Today, ordered a simple meal - two eggs over hard, wheat toast, home fries and coffee. The coffee was just AOK, as we're the eggs, but the home fries were absolutely atrocious... We are only giving it one star because our waitress was nice. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend coming for dinner. The broiled seafood didn't come with tartar or cocktail sauce and was bland. The Dutch dinner was not good and came with a big chicken wing with bones in it. The sides of corn tasted like microwaved frozen corn... no taste and soggy. We ordered milkshakes and both tasted like mint (we didn't order mint ice cream). My kid found chopped peanuts at the bottom of his cup too. We told them about the mint taste, they made another one and that wrong too.... Just vanilla ice cream and was very milky. I will never come here again. read more
