Emmanuel came and was superb-- not only did he come on time, he came and spoke with me about what I thought we needed, and he even agreed to include some extra work ( securing our shutters back on the walls)-- All for a price that I thought was more than reasonable -- especially compared to the other ones I received. Received my invoice in email from Tanya, but had to call her as the home address was wrong and it did not include the securing of our shutters. ( Needed to submit the invoice to new owners as contigency of the sale). Tanya was very helpful in fixing the invoice and re-sending it out to me. He also spent time discussing possible issues with the installation and potential remedies. Scheduling: 3/5 We were given an estimated date of delivery of our windows to the company and told we would be contacted to schedule installation. We called a week after that date and were told the scheduler was on another call and would call us back. No call. We called two days later and left another message. No call. We called the next week and were told the person scheduling was out on a business retreat for a week. Did get a call a week later and after that communication was good. I called WoW to do work on a leaky garden window and a roof tune up. As a first time homeowner, home repairs are pretty new to me so naturally I had a lot of questions. Eric answered the phone and told me he could come out to see me that same day. He arrived on time and inspected all the problem areas. Eric is very knowledgable, professional, and nice. He explained the issues and solutions thoroughly and any questions I had were addressed. I appreciated that because I have a slew of repairs and it's important that I understand the work being done, why it's being done, and that the price is fair. Eric also knew I was on a tight schedule so was able to accommodate my appointment within the week. Emanuel came out and did an amazing job. As I am in a townhouse, he found a problem area on my neighbor's side of the roof that could have a negative impact on my home. Even though it was outside the work scope, he addressed it with no additional charge. I also felt secure that Emanuel was thorough in his work, since he was able to uncover problem areas that aren't visible to the eye and addressed the ones he could within the scope. After the work, we did a walkthrough and just like Eric, Emanuel was knowledge, efficient, and very nice. He explained all the work that was done on the roof, windows, and took pictures of before/after of the things I could not see. One last praise I will sing is, they have a very organized system: from booking appointments, sending you work scope/pricing, to payment. Tremendous company to work with! They provided all the options and details available, there was no pressure to "up sell" beyond what I needed for my condo. Because nobody is perfect, they did identify a specification error during the site survey - very early in the process, so it had no impact on ordering or manufacturing. We also had lots of required coordination to meet HOA requirements, for which they provided all the info and quickly responded to the few remaining questions. As required, the final installation matched the original appearance (while being far more quiet and energy efficient). We had 15 windows and one French Door replaced by Windows on Washington. Their sales, measurement, and installation staff were all professional and we are very happy with the entire process. The salesman Greg was honest, straightforward, and responsive to our questions. The installation team did an excellent job! We will definitely do business with WoW again on the remaining windows that need replacement in a few years. One of the windows came out of the manufacturer's package with a long crack and the installation manager said they will order a new one and come back in a few weeks to replace it. I had a water stain in my master bedroom ceiling. I got a few roof repair companies to look at it. I got Greg's contact from one of the neighbour's and he mentioned he works for WoW. I called him and he said he'll send Beau to take a look at it. Beau was very methodical and unlike others who blamed it on imperfect installation of a section of roof by visually inspecting the roof, he spent quite a bit of time inside the attic and determined that the leak was actually coming from the chimney. He took photographs and showed me the water marks. So, the final bill for getting it fixed from WoW was much less than the other companies quoted for the work. More importantly, I believe the right problem got fixed. read more

We have a townhouse that was built in the 70s, and unfortunately was still sporting the original windows. Disaster. We obtained several quotes (I believe we ended up replacing 17 windows and switching the French door to a sliding door) and I am so pleased that we went with Windows on Washington. Zach, the sales consultant who came to the house, was a true professional. He was friendly, didn't get upset when our puppy managed to jump on him, and was the most down to earth sales person I've met. He was very knowledgable about the product, not pushy, and had none of that "smary used car salesman" personality. Never did we feel pressured to commit to making that large of a purchase while he was there. And, best of all, WoW had the best quote! Zach was great with the follow up, and was a pleasure to work with throughout the whole process. Regarding the installation - could not have been happier! The crew showed up early (when do you ever hear of that happening???) and were done with the job, including clean up, by 3:30 that same day. We didn't have to go back and ask them to clean up any messes, and both the inside and outside of the house were spotless when they went to leave. They were all polite, considerate, and answered any questions we had, and even took the time to point out and show us some of the features of the windows. As for the product - OMG! No drafts coming in through the windows, and my husband and I swear that the glass is actually clearer than what was replaced. Since it's the middle of winter, we haven't been able to open them yet, but I'm sure it won't be a problem when spring finally comes around! We had Windows on Washington do both our windows and our roof. I wanted gutter guards as well, but they don't do them if you already have gutters in place. For windows, WoW is great. They have a high quality product (Okna), and their installation team is very good at what they do. They were communicative before and during the process, and they had 20 windows installed in less than 8 hours. We had one minor issue (someone left a razor blade lying around on a couch cushion, which they immediately apologized for), but other than that, we were completely satisfied with the experience. The roofing side of the company is more problematic to recommend. They made a lot of mistakes on the initial installation, many of which I only caught by scrutinizing their work while crawling around inside my attic. For instance, the bathroom vent they were supposed to install was not functional; the eave/ridge vent system they put in had no way for air to flow due to the location of my attic insulation; white drip edge was initially put in place, even though it doesn't match my house and, as a result, is against HOA rules; etc. The crew was pretty cavalier about not bothering to pick up fallen nails (they just blew them into the grass, and, in one case, kicked a nail off of our path into the garden while we were having a conversation with them). The roofing crew was not very communicative before, during, or after the installation, and it took a lot of following up to get things fully resolved. However, I will say that WoW did do a good job of remediating the problems once they were pointed out, and I'm now satisfied with the installation. It just took a long time and a lot of discussion to get there. For windows, I would definitely use WoW again. For roof, you need to ensure that you can double check their work somehow. I felt like we got a good overall price on good quality products (all lifetime warranty), so the installation hassles on the roof should ultimately not be a big deal. Our house had been noticably cooler this summer, with no leaks from all this rain, and I'm looking forward to cheaper bills this winter as well. WoW is a good company that will work with you to make things right, even if things go wrong. You should definitely give WoW a call if windows are a part of your home improvement project. read more

I called Eric and said that since I'm in the midwest, you probably can't work on my house project of new windows, siding, and doors. But would you mind if I ask you a few questions, mostly about windows and some questions about siding. Eric said you're right that I can't work on your project, but no problem about asking me questions. We spoke and emailed on several occasions, and Eric gave me substantial information with regard to my project, especially with the windows and patio door I was considering. I'm so impressed that a person who had no chance of landing my project would spend so much time answering my questions and helping me to get good products to meet my goals. Plus, Eric sounded very knowledgeable with all aspects of my project. Even as the project was being completed, Eric gave me suggestions on what to ask my installer to help ensure the installation would be done well and to my satisfaction. You'll need to look to other reviewers for their experience with Eric actually doing the installation. Eric is apparently of the philosophy that if you are low key, honest, provide excellent installation and service, your business will reap the rewards of happy customers and continuous referrals. More people in the house remodeling business should adopt this philosophy. We chose this firm in part because of their reputation and we were thoroughly disappointed. We did a whole-house window replacement with them and I will say the the installation itself was professional. However, the doors they installed were not the doors we ordered and were out of compliance with our homeowners association requirements; the screens were not the type we ordered, and two of the windows were defective (the factory's fault, not WoW's). It took months to get these errors fixed, errors that mostly would not have occurred if Windows on Washington had not been careless up front. They did eventually rectify all the problems and they did not attempt to evade their responsibilities, so at least that was good. It's been a little over six months since the work was completed and both of the doors are starting to fail. I'm not sure if they are under warranty, but even if they are I am reluctant to use Windows on Washington again, so we will probably end up replacing them with another firm, a waste of thousands of dollars. read more

In early 2012, I spent considerable time searching online for information about particular types of windows having features I desired for my home. Through this effort, I found a discussion forum on which Eric Novotny from Windows on Washington was a contributor. It was clear from reading Eric's comments that he had considerable knowledge and experience in residential windows, including many of the engineering aspects of window design that bear on selecting the correct window for a particular application. After carefully reviewing my requirements, Eric proposed a particular brand and model of window that included features offering substantial performance improvements over the existing old windows. In his evaluation, Eric explained in layman's terms why he selected the particular type of window, and described in detail what to expect during the process, from ordering to installation. At no time did I ever get the impression that I was being "sold." Because I chose this company based on yelp reviews, I felt I had to create an account in order to share my disappointment with them. I needed to find out if my roof needed repair or replacing. I paid a $75 service fee for the technician to come out. (Since this was the first company I called, I didn't question the fee and they didn't explain it to me. Maybe it was due to my location?) The technician inspected the roof, told me he would recommend replacing, but would get me quotes for both repair and replacement. After several polite emails to the company, I finally got the estimate for repair two and half weeks later. I sent another email asking, again, for the replacement estimate, and have still not received it, several weeks later. In the meantime, I've gotten three free estimates from other companies and have contracted one of them to replace the roof. ETA on 4/15/14: I just received a refund of the service fee in the mail, so I wanted to update my review reflect that. read more

Windows on Washington is the best. I called 5 different companies for quotes to replace 6 windows in my 1977 home. WoW was the friendliest and most knowledgable company I talked with. I met with Gregg the sales rep and received a firm quote, not one which I had to take that day or pay more for a later decision. The windows were HiMark (Okna) series 800 which, according to my research, are in the top 5 vinyl replacement windows. I also ordered new shutters. I was told the windows would arrive in 4 to 6 weeks. In about 4 weeks I received a call from Lee saying my windows had arrived and we scheduled installation. The crew arrived at the appointed time and started working immediately. The crew was very courteous and professional. The crew did an excellent job removing the old windows and installing the new ones. They laid drop cloths throughout the whole house and vacuumed when the job was finished. I am very happy with the windows and with the sales and installation process. I would definitely consider using WoW for future projects. read more

There are lots of choices when it comes to windows. But once you've decided to spring for good windows it doesn't mean you have to take out a second mortgage to do so. Windows on Washington sells the Okna line of windows which get incredible ratings for quality, efficiency and design. And they are affordable! They tend to rate better than Pella and other high end designs but cost less and look the same. But beyond that, this company is a locally owned business that pays very close attention to customer satisfaction. We did not have to haggle to get a good price, the salesperson was straightforward and clear, we were not pressured to buy at ANY time. The installation took, for 20+ windows, about a half day, was clean and precise and we were satisfied with delivery of exactly the product we ordered. A day later, we noticed one little part was broken on a lock and the owner arrived quickly with replacement pieces for us. Moreover, a year later, when, through user-error, we had a window that wouldnt close on a blazing hot sunday afternoon, I was treated to a prompt and informative return call that night- Sunday night! And talked- through the solution. They were willing to send someone out to help, too, if need be. Let's see Pella or Anderson, Home depot or Lowes, provide that personal touch. We are so glad we went with the local company and not the chain. We are treated like real people. It is so important that a window company take care of its customers, after all, these are our homes. After living in the same house for 32 years, I decided to replace the existing wood frame windows because some would not open, and the ones that did open would not stay up by themselves. Thus, I started the quest for replacement windows. At the outset I will state that for large purchases such as this I tend to do extensive research before making a decision. After reading numerous reviews about window companies on line and in various magazines such as Washington Consumers' Checkbook I narrowed my choices of window companies to eight. Yes, eight because I wanted to learn as much as I could about the various window brands and about the companies themselves. I quickly found out that dealing with eight companies was nothing compared to comparing at least two dozen different brands and models of windows. Again, I finally narrowed my choices of window brands down to four. I was then able to eliminate some companies because they did not carry the brands that interested me. At this point I will mention a couple of interesting facts I learned while I interviewed the companies. First, believe it or not, all of the salespersons are not necessarily well informed about their own products. After doing online research about the four windows I was considering, I was able to address some misinformation they provided, especially regarding the various energy values of the windows. Second, some of the salespersons either are not aware of the codes related to needing tempered glass for certain windows or they simply lied to me in order to have me think that I had to get the more expensive tempered glass windows. If you are shopping for windows, check the code yourself before some salesperson convinces you that you need tempered glass. Third, some salespersons made a big deal out of the fact that their windows are "custom fit" and that precise measurements are needed so that the windows fit perfectly. At first I was impressed by that. Then I realized that basically I had three different sized windows in my house, small, medium, and large. Mine is not a custom built house and the original windows were not custom spec ones. So, in essence, I have three "standard" sized windows and the window companies simply have to verify that the replacement windows will fit in the standard openings. So unless you have some true custom type windows in your house, you will simply be getting standard windows, not "custom fit" windows. Last, a couple of salespersons gave me the "today only special price" offer. Even though I am a senior citizen, I am an informed one and will never fall for that type of offer. So what does all of this rambling have to do with Windows on Washington? Everything, really. The salesperson, Joe Bailey, was very knowledgeable about windows in general and especially about the brand and model of window I wanted. He was familiar with all of the energy specs of the window, he assured me that I did not need tempered glass in two areas where I was told by others that I needed it, he explained in detail the procedure that the crew would follow when installing the windows, and answered several other questions I had. However, I realized that Mr. Bailey was not going to personally install the windows so I was still concerned about the actual installation. During my research I kept reading how important it is to have the windows installed correctly, and that the most expensive windows will not necessarily do what they should if they are not installed properly. After watching the crew install the windows, I feel very confident that they were installed properly. The crew first put drop cloths in all areas of the house where they would be walking, and then went about their business in a very professional manner with nobody yelling at others, nobody just sitting around, and nobody acting as if they were just picked up at the local 7 Eleven store. I was especially impressed by the caulking job that was done both on the outside and inside of the windows. I've tried for years to run a smooth caulking bead with no success, so I truly admire the caulking job they did. When they were finished, they cleaned up meticulously to the point where I couldn't find one scrap of anything on the floor or on the lawn. In addition to the knowledgeable salesperson and the fantastic installation crew, one would think there is nothing else left when considering which window company to use. But there is one factor that could be even more important, and that is the warranty. If you are considering a window replacement job, ask the company if their warranty is one that covers both the product and labor for a lifetime. If not, and if that is an important factor, then contact Windows on Washington and have them do the job.
