This place is absolutely amazing. We went to celebrate a friend's birthday. We went on a pretty hot Saturday. The place was pretty full. I mean there were a lotttt of people but it still felt super pleasant. We were a large group of people and made reservation like a week in advance. We were seated down the hill closer to the plantation. We felt like we had our own private space. There were options to sit closer to the building if you are a smaller group and prefer not to be too isolated. The umbrella shade wasn't enough for the entire group but it was our fault that some of us didn't take hats on such a hot day. But we enjoyed nonetheless. The wine was good. I liked the rose the most. But we tried red and white as well. We bought the bottles because the math turned out to be way better than the wine tasting options they were offering. Another cool thing about this place is that they let you bring your own food. Filtered water is also available. We prepared charcuterie at home and took that. It turned out to be pretty inexpensive. The wines were great over all, they didn't give me a headache or a hangover later that day. There was plenty of place for kids to play and to take your puppies on a run. Stopped by around 12pm on a Saturday and we were able to get the perfect table right by a window! Windridge Vineyards is seriously the best little gem in town and I can't believe it's only 30 minutes from my apartment! The employees said that all the wines are pretty dry which was perfect since my friends and I don't really love fruity wines. The wines were all wonderful and a fair price. The best part was that this place also allows you to bring your own food! Most wineries I know in Virginia don't typically have this option so it was really nice to be able to bring our own! There is plenty of seating outdoors and some seating indoors. It wasn't too busy on the day that we came, but I can see it filling up when the weather cools down. Overall, my friends and I absolutely LOVED this place. The bring your own food option and the wines were enough to bring us back. Pro tip: make a reservation before you arrive! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! This place is the best vineyard I've ever been to in the DMV area. It's fairly new, so the furnishing and decor is as modern as it gets. The owner also came by and thanked people for their patronage - a nice, professional touch that solidifies the already sterling experience. The wine is also the best I've gotten at a winery. The last one I went to (Bull Run) was awful in comparison. Their wine was just plain nasty. Every. Single. One. Sucked. Here? Not only did they make recommendations, they often paired the suggestions with a little taste. We opted for a couple bottles of Sauvignon blanc and even took one home! We were seated in the solar pavilion. Definitely a good spot if it's a hot day and you got a fur baby, since it's got shade and ceiling fans. They also were supporting local business- Kenaki was serving sushi rolls right where we were seated. Another nice touch! Ample seating, great service, perfect view, and dog friendly? PERFECTION! I've loved this place since they opened. The one reason I didn't was because they allowed children. To be clear, I don't blame the kids, because they're kids, therefore annoying. The parents are horrible. They allow the kids to jump on furniture, run around, scream, all while they drink heavily and take videos thinking their kids are so cute. Spoiler. They're not. A very charming vineyard close to home in MD, with a beautiful scenery and decent wine (especially the white wine). We ordered the three-glass tasting flight, which included, per our choice, 2024 Portrayal (white wine), 2022 Encampment (red wine) and 2018 Old Line (port-inspired dessert wine). We also bought a tray of various types of meat and cheese and a small baguette. The food was not something to write home about but it was perfect to go with the wine while watching the view. They also have a food truck parked in their premises with a greater variety of choices. A warning for next time - It was very hot when we visited around noontime. Our family has been supporting Windridge from day 1 and through wine club memberships and several visits a year, but the place has been going down hill over the last year culminating in an outright ban on the families that made them successful in the first place. Rather than remove unruly patrons, they've decided to ban all children-- no matter how well-behaved. I mean really, most of the place is picnic tables on a lawn, yet somehow that's no place for a well-behaved child. Nevermind that local families are the ones who helped make them successful to begin with. In addition, there's no preference for wine club members to get reservations, which are hard to come by, and staff has become a lot less knowledgable and not very friendly. On top of that, their wine has become boring and predictable while other local wineries are putting out new and better wines. I started giving some of my wine club wines as gifts because I'm sick of the same taste, but people don't drink it. Really the only attraction to this place is you have a view with mediocre wine. Windridge, you can keep your new vibe. I guess you need that to compensate for your mediocre, boring wine. Rocklands, Sugar Loaf, Elk Run, Linganore are way better! read more

I made a reservation to come here in the beginning of Fall for my best friends birthday. It was super easy to go online, select your seating & reserve. This particular Saturday, there were a lot of people here because it was several food trucks and it was just a beautiful 65degree day in October. The grounds at the vineyard are gorgeous! Windridge Vineyards definitely practiced all safety measures and continuously sends emails with updates on how they're handling things. We ordered the red flight, white flight & bubbly flight, pretty much 99% of their wines haha. We had to stand in line for about 20 mins and were given a tray to carry our wines to our table. We also ended up ordering food from the Cava food truck. My best friend and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves so much she has gone back 2 times without me lol (she had to share her experience with her man). We have been going to Windridge since the day it opened and was one single, little building. While they were never actually kid-friendly and tended to be strict and rude about even well behaved kids at times, we overlooked it since this is the closest winery to us and we enjoyed coming here with friends and family on nice days. However, since they changed their model to 21+, we won't be returning for a long time because frankly their wine is too expensive and not good enough to warrant also getting a babysitter in order to visit. First time visiting this vineyard and it was for my husband's holiday party. His company rented out the pavilion/patio area that had an outdoor firepit and seating. The room was very cozy and service was fantastic. We were offered 3 types of wine to choose from and had a wide spread of charcuterie board to snack on. There was a BBQ truck on site and the company catered that for dinner. We came in the evening during the winter season so the sun had already set by the time we arrived but I heard the sunset is beautiful there. What a beautiful vineyard. My only regret was not exploring the shop inside. My friends and I sat at a picnic table off to the side of the main building. The staff at the vineyard was very accommodating when we asked to be relocated a bit closer uphill. It's a family friendly environment, there were lots of families with kids and pets. On a chilly day I highly recommend blankets and coats as the wind was a bit strong for me. The food truck was another reason my friends and I came. We love Little Minor Taco. They do say dogs are allowed but... Dogs allowed in outside areas which also all require a reservation. So if you come with a dog you must already have a reservation. We were asked to move outside after already purchasing wines and were told that no reservations were available. So we had to leave (with purchased, open wines & glasses). No one said anything about it before or warned us about areas restricted to animals. This is a fairly new winery that opened summer 2019. I've been here maybe a dozen times now since COVID and it's a treat each time. It has really grown in popularity and they have expanded a lot since the first time we went. The best part about this vineyard is of course their sunset view. It is breathtaking. On that note, it is quite sad that you can't enjoy the sunset views on the weekdays due to their hours of operation. There is plenty of area to social distance however they are very packed over the weekends. I recommend making a reservation 2 weeks in advance. You can go without a reservation and set up your blanket/chairs on their facilities, however we went one busy weekend and they were so packed only those with reservations were let in. They also have a newly built indoor tasting room. I believe it is first come first serve atm. Pet friendly Kid friendly You can bring your own food. We headed to Gemelli's for lunch and on our drive down 270 I remembered learning about Windridge Vineyards in the Support MoCo restaurants group so I asked my husband if we could go on an adventure after lunch and he said agreed! I have driven down Darnestown Rd before but never remembering seeing this place so it may be somewhat new? They had a big flag flying which helped us know where to turn in the gravel driveway. There were quite a few cars but everyone appeared to be social distancing so we put on our masks and headed to the hostess. She asked if we had a reservation which we did not but were taken to a standing wine barrel table and told if a seat became available she would let us know. She never came back but we were fine to stand for our wine flight. There are several seating areas - couches, patio seating, picnic tables and lounge chairs. I imagine they were keeping some available for reservations but plenty were open that I think we could have been given a seat to encourage us to stay longer. Many people brought their own chairs or blankets but we had not planned ahead as it was a spontaneous trip. It is pet friendly and several sanitizer stations. Today, I checked out a hidden gem in Montgomery County. It's About a year old. You need reservations and masks are required. On Sunday, the winery opens at 12pm. I sense this place gets packed. By 2pm, the winery was BUZZING! ! If you don't have a reservation, it's likely first-come , first serve. They will seat you anywhere! i learned they recently reopened due to COVd-19. They haven't reopened for tastings. Well, never saw anyone go in. The restrooms are outside. I love wineries and being outside. Tnis winery is small and laid back. I love how you can bring your own food for a picnic. They also had a food truck selling pizza and ice cream. It was really hot out . They are incredibly unwelcoming to families. so many rules--no balls, kids have to stay at their table, no playing, no fun. The staff are so unkind to children. This venue serves Maryland wine at picnic tables in a field, in a highly residential area. Their main customer base has been and logically should be families, but they've ruined it. We have been here many times, and held a private event here. But, our family has decided to avoid this place altogether now, since they started harassing children and families. If you love wines that grow very well in the Maryland and Virginia region (or are a wine lover, generally), you will be mostly disappointed with the product and atmosphere at Windridge. Wineries in the area choose their growth route, and this one has focused on accommodating as many restaurant customers as possible. There is no expectation that a visitor or customer would taste wines and make purchases of bottles, or cases. The emphasis is on the lower-end restaurant atmosphere (pre-packaged charcuterie boxes, food trucks, etc.) and glass/wine flight/single bottle purchases. There is no material benefit to being a member of the winery other than having multiple wines pre-selected for you for sale on a monthly basis. Members are required to make reservations for tables, their "free" reservation-only wine tastings, etc. Bottom line: it is a wine cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, reservations recommended. Can't say enough good things about this absolute gem of a place! I had no idea there was such a beautiful vineyard not too far from where my family lives and a good friend of mine introduced me to this place last time I was here. While it's not exactly the caliber of the wineries near my former home of San Francisco (ahem Napa/Sonoma) - it's definitely a must go if you're in the area and it absolutely takes me back to some of my favorite wineries in Healdsburg - intimate, homey and an absolute ball. The winery is well maintained, the space is stunning and I love that you can reserve seating and bring your own picnic. It's honestly one of my favorite places in the DMV and a must do. They have special events, food trucks at times and you can order snacks on-site. They have great wine tasting options but you don't have to drink, you can simply bring what you'd like and enjoy the facilities. Maybe it's my hardened metropolis heart but I find this so overwhelmingly generous and am such huge fan of this place. If you are looking for a hidden gem, this is it! It is the jewel in your treasure chest and the cherry on your sundae. Yes, it is all that and more. The magnificent view of the valleys and trees with their leaves changing colors take your breathe away. The orchards are backdrops to the lively music and excellent food. The wine is delicious and the tasting was fun. We loved the Chardonnay and bought a bottle. Our sommelier was nice and knew a lot about the different types of wine. The star of the show was the chef called The Gypsy of Paella. We ordered the paella with lump crabmeat added. It was excellent. Big chunks of lump crabmeat on a bed of tasty rice, chicken, sausage, and mussels. It was so scrumptious. Then, there were the huge, perfectly grilled scallops. They were tender and delicious with a delicate sauce that enhanced the flavor. I am craving them now. No one can make grilled chicken skewers as tasty as the Gypsy Chef. They were grilled to perfection and the green sauce was amazing. If you could bottle that sauce, I would drink it by the gallon. My son and I were trying to figure out what he puts in it? But, we couldn't, so we will just be huge fans of this chef. The music was a great mix of old and new. It wasn't too loud, but added to the venue. They are building an indoor tasting room, so right now everything is outdoors. Pets are welcome and you will see some of our four legged friends wandering the venue on leashes. I love this place. It has such a pretty tasting room. The vineyard looks like it stepped out of Napa (and I'm from California, so I can honestly say it does). We have been members for nearly 2 years now. It's really nice to have a few of the staff know us by name now. It makes us feel special. I truly enjoy nearly every single wine. On the summer weekends, they have music most weekend nights and food trucks. It's just a really pleasant and beautiful place to enjoy some wine. I do recommend you get a reservation.
