I should begin this review by saying that I've had extensive work done here, and unfortunately a great deal of different procedures at other dentists and periodontists in NYC and Florida. Dr. Moskowitz is a dream dentist. He's as upbeat as he can be, yet he never sugarcoats the situation. He will answer endless questions, and never seems frustrated or irritated. I don't like dentists, and I am kind of a wuss when it comes to pain, but he is unfailingly gentle, and will stop and administer more anesthetic in the middle of a procedure if the patient wants it. I cannot say enough about my experience with him, and with his assistant, who also went to dental school, Dora. They are an amazing team, and I trust them completely. Why? I read some previous reviews about unnecessary work ordered, but I had all different options and price points discussed with me, and wasn't pushed toward the most expensive option. My father made the same decision to have a permanent bridge put in, and his dentist (in Florida) was not as good as Advanced Dental Care - he gets food caught under it and it irritates his gums. My bridge fits so well that I feel like it's nearly my natural teeth. They didn't rush to cement it in, but used temporary paste, until I was sure that the fit was absolutely correct. So why not 5 stars? They are EXPENSIVE. I have dental insurance, and with the insurance that they take, I'm still paying tens of thousands of dollars out of my own pocket. I know that there are less expensive dentists out there, but I've decided that the thoroughness and expertise that I have experienced here are worth the money. After all, it is your mouth, and I don't know about you, but I like eating. They make sure that they accommodate my schedule, and after hearing my dad complain about the dental work that he had done, I think it is ABSOLUTELY worth the cost.

Extremely long wait after appointment time to be seen, and the administration is horribly managed. This place is terrible. I went to get my wisdom teeth removed. The consultation was standard and everything went fine. They verified that I was qualified for a loan and repayment plan but then I received a letter in the mail after my surgery saying that I did not qualify for the extended repayment plan despite being assured before my surgery that I was. They had me sign up for a plan that caused me financial stress under false pretenses. They called to reschedule my surgery twice which caused confusion with my job because I had to request time off for the surgery and then change it, twice. When I arrived for my surgery, I had to wait an hour and half to be seen by the surgeon whose assistant did not follow her instructions to x ray me while I waited, causing more of a delay. The guy before me had been waiting for two hours. The surgery itself went fine. They have very capable doctors. But so do A LOT of other dental offices. I received IV sedation and it was very fast. The big issue with this place is the management and administration. It is VERY poorly managed. They sent my scripts to the wrong pharmacy (TWICE!) and it took a few hours after my surgery to get them. Also, I requested an itemized receipt for my surgery both before and after my procedure. Was initially told hey can't give that to me until after the procedure. Then on 10/12 when I followed up I was told it would take a day to get to me. It's 10/17 and I still don't have my itemized receipt and they have not called me back. This is what I wonder: 1. I asked for an itemized receipt before my surgery and they said that they could not provide this until after the surgery because that's when they would be able to calculate the totals. 2. If that's the case why did they give me a solid price (the wording was, verbatim "the surgery will cost $2400". It was a definitive statement and not a quote) and have me sign up for a loan and repayment plan based on this amount if they can't actually calculate the totals until after the procedure? 3. Why are they unable to supply an itemized receipt when requested? Why don't they already have this information calculated and on file? Why won't they return my calls about this? Why are they being so shady about this? I am concerned that this place takes advantage of those who need dental work and who may be economically vulnerable, in a lot of pain, and who may be desperate to get this work done. I sincerely regret using Brooklyn Dental and besides my follow up, will never see them again.

Everything was explained before they did anything and their procedures were state of the art, including x-rays and the 3-D imaging/filming of our teeth. Dr. Gonzalez sat with us and explained how to ensure our continued good health and what we needed to do and not do on a daily basis. One of the most thorough and informative experiences I have ever had at a medical appointment. The office is in a lovely old NY building and the office is so beautiful and intimate and wonderfully decorated. It is cozy and comfortable. We loved our experience and are thrilled to have a new dentist we like and trust.

It has been wonderful to move on to another dentist who I find much more professional and engaged compared with Josh Wilges. By way of background, I was a patient of Dr. Josh Wilges for several years - until about two years ago when I sought out another dentist because of the profound unprofessionalism with which this practice operates. Let me enumerate the salient problems I encountered: #1 Insurance Issues: I found out from the office during the first week of January 202_ that they would no longer accept my insurance, that they had accepted for the past several years. I could have switched insurances to another provider who they do take had they only informed me a couple of weeks earlier in December of the prior year. I attempted on multiple occasions to phone and email the "manager" Adam (he is actually just Josh Wilges' husband and seems at best minimally competent and does not respond to phone calls) to figure out a resolution or a preferred insurance plan for the future. He would not return calls or emails or provide the necessary information. #2 Dr. Joshua Wilges as a No-Show: For three different appointments, I would book them with "Dr Joshua Wilges," who had been my dentist for several years at the point. When I would show up, Dr. Joshua Wilges was always in Texas not New York and it was a subcontractor providing services; the office would never let me know ahead of time about this "switcheroo" but it was a constant tactic for move than a year form what I heard from other patients and based on my own experiences. As someone who works in medical care, I can say that it is PROFOUNDLY unethical to advertise that you will provide services, while subcontracting out to another provider who is cheaper and collecting a profit. This is dental/medical ethics 101. Please know that if you book an appointment with Dr. Josh Wilges, you will likely never see the man. #3 Names: In medicine and dentistry, naming conventions should be parallel. If Josh Wilges is going to be "Dr. Wilges" then address me as "Mr. H_______." The office staff, however, will repeatedly and resolutely address you only by first name as if you are in kindergarten, while making a huge deal out of you calling Josh "Dr. Wilges" --- this is yet again totally unprofessional. This was at one point an excellent practice. It is not now. Dr. Josh Wilges is totally checked out and you will likely never see him for services you book with him. Furthermore, the manager Adam will refuse to contact you or discuss problems or other issues. Run from this unprofessional, unethical dentist's practice.

I recommend them so much that when my boyfriend had insurance that only covered certain dentists that he didn't feel very good about (and I didn't trust that they weren't trying to up-charge him for non-existent needs) I put him on my dental insurance so that he could start going to Innovative Dental. They've done right by him and made him significantly less anxious to go to the dentist despite having to do several procedures including a root canal. Now his teeth are set back on the right path! Back in 2018 my dental insurance changed and I had to go to a nearby dentist practice instead. It was the kind where you never see the same dentist twice. They told me that I had a cavity between my teeth and that I should have flossed. I almost came out of the chair swinging because I floss every night. As I was leaving I heard them upselling expensive toothbrushes in the next room. I then decided to start going back to Innovative Dental even if my dental insurance didn't cover it because I didn't trust those dentists. Dr Mithani is 1000% trustworthy and so gentle with teeth. Plus, he really remembers me, my needs, my mouth so well between visits. I always feel really cared for here :)

She remembered a lot of details from my last visit and is just a really nice person. Dr John made a night guard for me (because I grind my teeth ) that's lasted for years. They don't pressure and guilt me about fluoride treatments. I trust them. I was told I had a cavity at another dentist and I think they were just trying to drill. I've never had that experience here- it's so important to find a dentist that you trust and I've found that with Dr John. Everyone at Soho a Smile is helpful and caring and I've brought my husband there and will bring my daughter next time! It's a great location with the highest level of service. When I called the office to address this, the front desk staff--who are consistently unfriendly--treated me like I was inconveniencing them just by asking questions about my own care. It gets worse. The dentist called me back and initially doubled down, telling me I was wrong and insisting I had never had a root canal on that tooth. I literally had to explain, "I can feel the crown--I had this done over the summer." Only then did she finally recheck and realize she had been looking at outdated X-rays. Then came the apology. At that point, the damage was already done. Mistakes can happen--but this wasn't a small oversight. This was a chain of errors, poor communication, and dismissiveness that resulted in unnecessary dental work and significant cost. I then went to an oral surgeon who refused to remove them because there was nothing wrong with them. A lot of the time spent with Dr. Chang was her telling me what was wrong with my teeth. I have an overbite and she was insistent on doing something about it for my long-term health of my mouth which is fine, but she kept asking if I have to consciously close my mouth even though I said it's not an issue. She told me that I had cavities on all four of my wisdom teeth and needed to remove them before the cavity spread to neighboring teeth. I ended up making an appointment with an oral surgeon close to where I live and he took an x-ray and said my wisdom teeth were perfect and he didn't see any cavities, but even if there were any, they were minor enough that I didn't need to do anything yet. They also recommended I have a cleaning three times a year to keep an eye on some slight gum recession - not sure if that is the standard protocol - Insurance issues - Did not take my insurance and did not tell me till my exam was almost done and the receptionist gave me false information about my insurance. On Zocdoc I filtered to dentists who took my insurance, then booked an appointment with Dr. Chang. I had my x-rays taken and my cleaning was done, then the receptionist came in saying that my insurance was on a fee schedule and told me my insurance covered very little and asked me if I wanted to continue with the exam. She told me that it would cost the same at any other dentist, so I said sure let's just continue it. So I was charged $450 for something that I expected to be free, although they allowed me to pay $350. I found out later that Dr. Chang is out of network, and that is why it was on a fee schedule. I contacted Zocdoc to report false information, and Zocdoc said it is supposed to be maintained by the individual dentist office, but it is now fixed - Scheduling issues - I was supposed to have an appointment on Monday, and Friday they called and left a voicemail to cancel.
