Used these guys two years in a row. They are fast, reasonable, very good at what they do and friendly.

We are taking Windy City Movers to small claims court seeking damages to furniture during a move. They said that they are not liable for the furniture once it leaves my house! I asked for $40 to resolve the issue (actual damage is more than $40). The owner, Ed, said he doesn't care if I take him to court over $40. He also started complaining to me about his personal problems and workplace conflicts, as if this is something I might care about. A friend referred me to them. I suppose they might be a great company if nothing goes wrong with your move. I'm not seeking damages of $1,000 or even $100 dollars. He even mentioned that I had signed a sheet saying they would ensure me for 30 cents per pound. By that thinking, they owe me $18. I asked him to send me a check for $18. He said I'd have to take him to court. If you hire them, I hope your move goes well! read more

I was referred to Windy City Movers by a friend who said they were speedy, professional and very nice. I decided to hire them to do my move this past Friday and had a very different experience. Background: My roommate and I moved out of our two-bedroom apartment and went our separate ways. We decided to split the cost of a moving company and have them make two stops (first at her new apartment, then at mine) to save a little money. Friday morning rolls around and two men show up in a truck, Brandon and Travis. Brandon explains that a third guy is on potentially on the way (he never shows up), but he wasn't sure when he'd arrive, so they knocked off $30/hour from our estimate. Okay, fine. We knew it would take longer but at least they brought the price down. Brandon was professional and seemed like he had been doing this awhile. He was hustling and promised to move as fast as they could since they were a man down. Travis was a different story. When they arrived, his eyes were rolling to the back of his head and I could barely understand what he was saying. His words were so slurred that it didn't even sound like English. After about 30 minutes, he seemed to become more coherent. But 3 hours later, he asked to use the bathroom. He was in there for 8-10 minutes. When he came back out, the eye rolling and slurring started again and kept zoning out. I noticed he also left the bathroom sink running. His actions were very concerning, but I didn't want to jump to any conclusions. I just watched them carefully as they loaded our personal belongings. After they loaded all of our stuff on the truck, my roommate headed to her new apartment (3 blocks away from our old apartment) and I headed to mine. The movers were supposedly right behind her to meet her at her new place to unload. It took 45 minutes before they arrived. Again, they only had two blocks to travel. Where were they during this time that we are paying them to move? It's about 2pm when they get to my friend's apartment to unload. At this time, I am concerned that they won't get to my place before my elevator reservation ends. My building informed me that if they are unloading my things past 5pm, it could be a $250 charge. So I call the owner, who has already been made aware that the movers are behind. He's on his way to help with another guy. All four of them show up to my new apartment around 4:45pm. They get everything into my place in 30 minutes flat. My building didn't fine me, which is great. But the whole process was very stressful took way longer than it should have. I had to ask the owner to renegotiate the price. He took 2 hours off to bring the final bill to $611. I appreciate that the owner worked with me to make things better. And I also appreciated Brandon's professionalism (he was tipped well.) He did a great job, but unfortunately, with only one coherent mover, it made the whole process painfully slower than it should have been. I wish this company would do a better job of vetting their employees and making sure they show up to work and are prepared to do the job. As a repeat customer of Windy City, I was hoping for the same incredible service and quality of the move I had 2 1/2 years ago. Prior experience a few years ago was top notch. Everything from the respectable rep who specked out the job and and gave me the quote, down to the movers who were phenomenal and professional. They went out of their way to place my furniture just the way I wanted it, and even changed out some burned out light bulbs for me in the new place. Way above and beyond! And did I mention I moved in the middle of a blizzard the first time? This time, I was moving from my 3 bedroom condo into a single family home. The job I had been quoted for included packing me up, ( of which I did half of on my own to keep cost down) and the actual move. Two full days had been scheduled and priced out. Same as my prior experience and somewhat a similar quote. Only slightly higher, but I chalked it up to inflation. The guys showed up the day before the move to pack me up. I'm not discriminating here, specially since I am in my mid 50's, but when your movers show up and all of them are over the age of 65, you can imagine my concern. Professional movers or not, how much muscle strength do you have left at this age and ability to carry very heavy items when the temps are in the mid 90's? I had concerns from the start. The movers then unexpectedly tell me they intend to move over half of my items that same day to the new place! Moving day wasn't supposed to be for another two days. I wasn't ready at the new house yet and hadn't covered the floors and carpets, so I was in a panic to do this in a very short period of time. Day two and actual day of the move, the guy who gave me the quote, Ed Witas, and supposed owner, tells me that he NEVER had me down on the original order to pack me up, so he will have to charge me extra for this. I argued with him that HE scheduled this as a two day move. One to pack and one to move. A three bedroom condo is NOT a two day move, so obviously they intended to pack me up as it was scheduled on their calendar as such! As I suspected, the movers ended up dropping heavy furniture going up my stairs and denting and dinging my hardwood floors. I thought they were going to croak half way through the job. Half the time they were taking smoking breaks out back by their truck instead of moving my furniture. Did I mention I pay by the hour? The final tab was $800 more than I had been quoted, and because they won't touch box until you sign their forms, you are at a disadvantage. I got stuck with the bill. It was an awful experience and I will never use or recommend them to anyone. Lesson learned for me, if I chose to use a service a second time, be sure to ask first if there has been a change in ownership or management. read more

Buyer beware. Zero stars. Hold these people ACCOUNTABLE to their quotes. Get them in writing, and DO NOT PAY until you are settled on an agreeable price. Do not cave. Don't be me. Get your calculator out on the spot and do the math. These people have been in business 30 years and claim ignorance to knowing about the importance and significance of quotes. DO NOT be afraid to refuse payment. I am a single women in a 2 bedroom apartment ( with furniture for a 1 BR as my roommate had just moved out) on a 3rd floor and went to a 1 BR first floor walk up for my recent move at the end of May. I spoke to the secretary about my move 1 month prior to the move. i had 1 bed, 2 dressers, a buffet, couch, a kitchen table and 4 chairs and other various small items found in a home; and several boxes. This company quoted me 400$ for the job. All my items were boxed and staged for the move. (there was some disassembly of a queen-sized bed but that was listed at the time of the quote). 3 males showed up 1.5 hours late, exhausted at 4:30pm. They were asking for drinks and ice because they explained their boss wouldn't let them have a break from the previous misquoted job they just arrived from, previous to my appointment. I provided the drinks and ice as requested. They took many breaks including clogging the toilet. They were extra exhausted and requested a 4th man on the job after 2.5 hours in, that they wanted me to pay for; i agreed bc i just wanted this job to keep moving. The 4th person, Ed, showed up, started complaining and created even more of a stall with complaining about the job and the weather, and then looked at me and asked where my husband was. as soon as he realized i did not have a husband, he left the scene, agitated. This was at 7pm. This whole debacle move lasted 7.5 hours. They didn't complete the job until 11:45. They charged me 120% over the quoted price. I called and spoke to Ed on 2 separate occasions and discussed the falsification of the quote which he admitted and acknowledged was a gross misrepresentation of the price charged. At first he blew me off and said, "its just a quote, not an actual price". I literally said, " if you personally hire a business based on a quote they give you, and then they charge 120% over the estimate, you know you would have a significant problem with that". Reluctantly, he agreed with this as well. Math does not lie. He denied not giving his workers a break and claimed to have no knowledge that one of his workers recently had back surgery and had been released from his doctor just the previous day. He agreed to shave 30 minutes off the bill. 7.5 hours for a single person making a move in the city of Chicago? Again, the numbers just can't lie. I moved just last year and had not gained any additional furniture and paid under 800$ for the same move. I made Ed aware of this, and all he said was "no". Ive attempted to try and resolve this issue with this company on 4 separate occasions, also speaking to the secretary who actually gave me the quote for the job. She was defensive stating, "Im just the secretary and you are blaming me", i was literally just asking her how she arrived at her quote, attempting to understand. I have given WCM ample opportunity to work with me; the final phone call was never returned, where we had reached an agreement that something had gone wrong, but Ed needed time to "think about it". I told him the most i would pay is 800$, as i feel that is more than fair based on my years of experience moving, and it is still 100% over the quote. Well, after 30 years, if they can't get a quote right, something isn't quite right. At face value, in my experience with Windy City Movers as a single woman and a neighbor, this company is not interested in doing honest business and is unwilling to follow through to resolution when things admitedly, do go wrong. read more

I had a terrible time with this company. I decided to go with them after reading positive review online and the lady at the office was very kind on the phone, however when moving day rolled around, my experience was truly awful. Three guys came to move me. I didn't even have that much stuff to move but it took them forever. They took frequent breaks and would just be standing outside not doing anything. When I asked about this I was told that time wasn't on the clock. My new apartment was less than a 20 minute drive away but I waited for them to get there for 50 minutes. To my delight they showed up sloppy DRUNK. Alcohol on their breath, ridiculously unprofessional behavior, yelling in the street, throwing punches at one another. I couldn't believe it. It was embarrassing. One of the movers THREW MY TV out of the back of the truck at the other worker trying to hit him. I had broken and scuffed furniture, bowls, and other belongings. I had to ask them multiple times to get their act together and act like adults as they were yelling in my hallway. They were threatening to kill each other and cussing up a storm. The next day, I called one of the owers, Ed, and complained about what happened. I asked for a partial refund as I was charged $928 for extremely sub-par service. He told me we would take an hour of time off which is around $190. That was December 2. I called again last week and he promised it would be reimbursed but I haven't recieved it and doubt I ever will. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. They moved my furniture to my garage complaining that it was "too heavy". It was snowing and I had to deal with my car being on the street for weeks. They broke the back of a mirror to a cabinet and never told me. They were suppose to come back to move the furniture inside the house, but said they didn't have any movers and never got back to me. read more

I called Windy City Movers on very short notice ( 2Days) and spoke to a gentleman that was so polite and courteous. I had never hired movers before and was not sure what a reasonable price was. When the gentleman quoted the price I asked if this was low or high? He explained that I might find some a little lower and some higher, but that their company would provide a quality move. I had a horrible experience with this company last month. This is my first review ever however it must be said. The movers were quick and respectful however they accidentally broke my new SAMSUNG 65"UHD TV (1,200.00) when I contacted the owner of the company he offered me a check for $60 yes I said $60 it has been a month and 3 calls later and still haven't received the pitiful check after being told 3 times it was on the way. Horrible. I'm totally dissatisfied. Every piece of bedroom furniture I own is now dented, scratched or chipped and when I brought it to the attention of the movers they said I should just fill it in with a marker! The 3 weeks later took off work and had a "furniture repair" guy sent from the company to come to my house to repair the damage and what did he show up with... markers and crayons! How are markers and crayons going to fix the dents and wood that is completely missing from my furniture. When I complained and told him I want them to send out someone that specializes in furniture repair they said in order for them to do that I would have needed to purchase additional insurance for another $50 (yet no one mentioned to me.) They guy said all he could do was write me a check for $0.30per lbs and then I'd have to find someone on my own to fix it. So now I have to waste more of time and who knows if the money will cover it. I'll never use Windy City Movers again... I totally recommend 2 Men and a Truck... you don't need to purchase "additional" insurance to make sure your furniture is taken care of and they fully wrap every piece in shirnk wrap to minimize scratches and chips... something Windy City Movers DID NOT DO. read more

I needed this move to be flawless, as I flew in from LA, to move my daughters apartment into a new one. I do not know the city, just happened to chose Windy City Movers because of all the great yelp reviews. Lucky me! Tim S., Steve, & Matthew, my crew were, hands down, the best movers I have ever had! They showed up on time, & wrapped, packed everything for me & had it all down three flights of stairs in no time flat! When we arrived at the new 12-story apartment building, discovered the two large elevators were out of commission! Our apartment was on the 11th floor! The guys told me it was no worry, that this is what they do, & without any complaint, the three of them, moved all that stuff up 11 flights of stairs. They are my Heros! Nothing was broken, or damaged, & they were incredibly happy & efficient the entire time. I do think the owner should be including these guys photos in all the nice advertising on their website. They are the ones who make it happen for Windy City Movers! Will definitely use them again! read more

We had a U-Haul full of big furniture and we were burnt out from a week of moving. Last minute we called these guys to haul our stuff up to a second floor apartment. Brandon and Jason came over and really quickly took care of everything. They were really nice and funny guys, too. They were extremely careful and respectful of our stuff and the whole experience was terrific and reasonably priced. Recommended. read more

Windy City Movers was my best moving experience ever, and I've moved 20+ times in my life so far. Danny, Matt and John are an amazing team. Danny's the ring leader, John is the calm one helping you to not freak out, and Matt is the brawn who apparently can lift 3x his body weight. Unbelievable. They showed up on time, they were FAST, they took great care of all of my things and nothing broke or got lost. I also wasn't particularly organized, and they moved exactly the things I asked them to and nothing else. They were professional, friendly and absolutely had moving down to a science-slash-art. Moving day sucks in so many ways and I couldn't have asked for a more competent, efficient team of movers. These guys are awesome and if I could have afforded it, I would have tipped them $200 apiece for the day's work. I would recommend Windy City Movers above any moving company in Chicago. Using Windy City Movers was one of the best decisions I have ever made.!! I was moving from Chicago to Florida to an already furnished home,so I didn't need a moving company. I went with Pack-rats ,storage container and hired Windy City to move my boxes, bins, clothes etc! Totally professional, perfect packing as it wasn't filled,so Ed made sure everything was packed securely. Travis and Matt couldn't have been more helpful and hard working! When the container arrived in Florida,nothing was moved, shifted or broken! This company is unbelieveable! Even if you are just moving a couple of blocks within Andersonville and think that you can do it all yourself, consider calling Windy City Movers. They helped immensely with the hardest parts of a move that was mostly accomplished with a U-Haul truck, but without them would have taken considerably longer and resulted in a lot more back pain. Our first experience with Windy City movers was a while ago when we stopped in just to buy some boxes. The woman who helped us was extremely helpful and personable. So, naturally when it came time to do a full move we went to get boxes there rather than go to the hateful U-Haul store. While getting our boxes they asked if we would like moving help. We were just moving two blocks away, and my partner and I already rented a truck and had made arrangements to do it ourselves so initially we though "no" but there was some heavy furniture that we really did not want to walk-down out of a walk-up. But we thought because of our moving day we though we were out of luck since we, like hundreds of others were moving at the end of July. To our surprise, It wasn't a problem at all since we were local in Andersonville. Ed and his team were able to come and bring down furniture and boxes, haul out old furniture to the trash, and then expertly pack our truck making our move faster and more efficient. I've heard many horror stories about movers who are unprofessional, careless with furniture, or even just mean. This couldn't have been further from our experience. Our experience was excellent, they were on time (despite a busy schedule), and we are recommending them to all of our friends -- especially because they are a local Andersonville business that supports the community and provides great service. read more

Super great! They stopped at 2 different locations to pick up stuff in Edgewater, then down to River North to drop it all off - and they were done in less than 2 1/2 hours. Everyone (3 man crew) worked quickly and were super nice and friendly. Would total recommend and use them again. read more

I'm really torn for this review. We went from a 3rd floor condo into storage, then 2 days later out of storage into a house. The movers did a good job moving our stuff, with only one broken lamp (actually just missing a piece that keeps the base on it) and a scuff or two on the wall - honestly not bad at all. The guys were polite and definitely worked hard. I got a call when they were on their way both times. They did show up early to the first move, which is not always something you want when moving (I was doing a last load of laundry and was hoping to pack it up, but I just ended up doing it as they worked), but early is better than late! However since we pay by the hour, I have to give 2 stars. I think the guys doing the move (specifically the move out of the condo) did the best they could, but they were older and it took longer than I think it should have taken. The stairs for our 3rd floor condo were clearly a problem. One of the guys was limping up and down the stairs and definitely moved slower than the others on the crew. (I also saw him taking a smoke break at one time.) I think that move could have been done a bit faster, and I think we got overcharged on a few things. (I didn't go to storage to watch them move the stuff in, and I ended up paying for more time to move it into storage than it took to move out of the condo. They also charged for a TV box, when I saw them just wrap one of our boxes around the TV. Maybe they put the box on the TV later when it got in the truck??) They also didn't come with any shrink wrap, so even if I'd wanted them to wrap the couch or mattress, they couldn't have done so. For the 2nd part of the move into the house the crew consisted of two of the same guys and the 3rd guy was a lot faster than the one from the previous day. This crew consisted of guys that were 53, 57, and 73. Seriously. (The 57 and 73 year old were the same guys from the previous day.) Again, they worked hard, were efficient, and were careful with our stuff. They did a good job moving our stuff but I think a different crew could have done it faster (especially the first day, when the stairs were clearly a problem), and since we pay by the hour for movers I think we ended up paying more than we needed to. read more

Fantastic from start to finish. When we booked our move, the folks at the office were friendly and professional. They confirmed quickly, and also called the day before the move as promised to confirm once again. The crew of movers showed up spot on time, and were all friendly and totally professional. They handled our things with care but also didn't waste any time, which is nice because they are being paid by the hour. They completed the move in less time than we expected. For my 20th move, I thought I'd treat myself to an honest-to-goodness professional mover. I heard from a co-worker about Windy City, and I made the call. It's been more than 24 hours since the truck pulled away from my new house in Brookfield and I'm still smiling. These guys are the best! Their prices are GREAT and they moved me and my 1 bedroom, 2nd floor walk-up to a little house in Brookfield on a Saturday in less than 4 hours. 3 1/2 hours to be exact. This is WITH insane traffic on the Kennedy (which I will NOT MISS! Why is it STOPPED at 11:00 on a Sat. morning? WHY???? Where is everyone GOING? Sorry for the total aside. But good God I hate that damn Kennedy.). Dave, Tim (go Huskies!!!) and Bill handled my precious picks and antiques with care. Not one thing broken, dented, or damaged - and this was after my boyfriend and I watched as they strapped numerous boxes to their backs and walked up and down the stairs over and over. I was exhausted just watching them! They were so polite and nice it made me feel like inviting them to stay for dinner...but I guess a big stack of Grandma's cookies and few brews would have to do instead! I will never use anyone else as a mover in the future and cannot recommend these guys enough! read more

So I had a piano to move. The piano is a console or studio piano, halfway between a spinet and an upright. I live in a high third floor apartment. I called a couple of movers I had used previously, they got it to the first landing within an hour, painfully. Needless to say they couldn't do it. They stored it free for me until I could make other arrangements. I looked a site online for a company based in Rogers Park and found they had an area in their site specifically mentioning piano moving and even had a film. I mentally saw the dollar signs quickly adding up. I remembered that Windy City was in the neighborhood so I called. The owner took the call and set up a convenient time for me. Nice to have hands on help from a very busy man. They came to my place and brought up the bench. This was a quick scope out of the job. Within ten minutes they had my piano in my apartment. No fuss, no muss. These movers were perfect gentlemen and courteous to a fault. The price was at least half of what the Rogers Park company was outlining on their site. Windy City doesn't make specific reference to piano moving as a specialty, they just take the job and do it. The guys they use have actual experience moving pianos for an old piano company that I'm familiar with. Very impressive. All in all I would highly recommend this company for any moving needs. Call them when you need, you won't be disappointed. read more

Tim S., Steve and Tommy arrived on time and began working. They didn't stop until the job was done. They would strap 3 boxes on their back and take them up 3 flights and then go down for more. Last minute SOS phone call to Windy City Movers. . Ed was so kind and was at my storage facility in 1/2 hour. Exactly what he had told me. Ed and Charlie were personable, careful, and efficient. Job was started and done without any issues. Fabulous experience. Since the original mover I hired "Family Moving and Storage" never showed up and was a terrible experience all around, Windy City Movers came to my rescue and were fantastic. We moved on a snowy day in January when it was 4 degrees outside. WCM sent three guys over and they all did a fantastic job. They were efficient, courteous, and didn't scratch a thing. Most of all I was impressed how these guys could strap 3 items on their back and safely maneuver them down 3 flights of stairs! The price was well worth it. I have had some nightmare moving experiences (movers hitting buildings, movers breaking/losing belongings, etc), and unfortunately, this company made my last move just as harrowing. If it were possible, I would have rated Windy City Movers zero stars for the simple fact they did not even attempt to complete my move that was booked about month in advance. When I first reserved the truck and movers, I stressed that I lived in a high rise building and would only have the elevator for 3 hours tops (at a cost of $250). The lady I spoke to was very friendly and I ended up following up with her several times, before the move date, to ensure that they could complete the move in my allotted elevator time. After 11:00a the DAY of my scheduled move, I get a call from the movers saying that they were falling behind and would not be able to get to my residence at 1p. I asked them to give me an estimated time and they would not give me an answer. I called the office and requested to see if they could find other movers or if they could give me a time range. They were rude, uncooperative, and would not provide even a time range. This put me in a very bad predicament, as the new tenants were moving in the following week and the elevator was booked solid till then. In addition, the building charged up to an additional $100 for each hour and would not allow any movers on the premise after 5p. After trying to work with the company for about an hour, I finally started frantically calling other moving companies. Fortunately, after calling about 5 other moving companies, New City Moving, had an opening. They were at the building before 1p, completed the move in about 2 hours AND charged less than Windy City Movers. The movers were professional and pleasant, and they moved heavy furniture out of my new residence and offered to set it by the garbage cans in the back. By far the best experience I've ever had with a moving company. One last note...after my move, I shared my terrible Windy City Movers experience with my coworkers and it turns out that the EXACT same thing happened with one of them. They had scheduled a move with Windy City Movers and the movers bailed on them too at the last minute. So if you schedule a move with these movers, BEWARE. There is a chance that they may leave you hanging high and dry. Definitely go New City Moving if you have the option. read more

My wife and I used Windy City Movers to move our belongings from a cluttered 4-bedroom house to our new house, and we couldn't have been any more impressed with the patience, skill and professionalism of the crew of Dave, Tim and Bill during the process. We had more stuff than we thought we did, as it turned out, so the 3 movers made the absolute most of the space available in the truck and managed to fit it all in. We had a lot of heavy boxes (books, records, paperwork) that they diligently carted out of the old house and into the new one without complaint. All fragile items were padded up and protected and nothing arrived in damaged condition. Several large or odd-sized items were maneuvered out and in with no damage done to the items or the walls of our new house. The move took 9 hours in total, which is a testament to the amount of "stuff" we had, but the service Windy City Movers provided was worth every dollar. read more

David, Tim K and Steve did an excellent job and I would highly recommend them to anyone I know and will use them again. We had a lot of big pieces to move and lots of stuff. They did it fast, went smoothly and didn't wreck any of our stuff. The company is located in Andersonville and has been around for 30+ years. They also have storage if you need it. I love the idea I can walk into their store and see that it's a real business. I've moved several times, and I can honestly say this was the best moving experience I've ever had. They arrived on time--literally 12pm on the dot and they handled all of the items with care. When we arrived at the destination there was a gas leak a couple blocks away, so streets were closed off, but they were calm and patient and managed to maneuver the truck through a narrow alleyway and finish unloading in a reasonable time. They apologized for the delay and even marked it down for the time it took to get past the roadblocks. Ultimately, the total cost was less than the estimate. On top of being great movers and hard workers, they were courteous and professional. Windy City Movers will be on the top of my list next time I move. read more

Windy City Movers stored my furniture for a year while I was out of town. At my request they moved my things to my new apartment about 2 weeks ago. Missing from the delivery was the bottom half of a coffee table which I had custom made and a fine oriental rug. The owner, who helped with the move, said he would look for the missing items. HE THEN REFUSED TO ANSWER MY PHONE CALLS AND MADE NO ATTEMPT TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE MISSING ITEMS. I am considering taking him to small claims court. When you move make a complete list of your belongings and have the movers sign off on it. Then check off the items as they are delivered. Other moving companies do this. read more

We had another GREAT experience with Windy City Movers.... due to unfortunate circumstances we had to move twice in the last 3 months. Windy City Movers once again came to the rescue. Ed, Steve and the crew did a great job moving us to our new single family home - on one of the hottest days of the summer!! We recently needed movers to help us load a truck from Chicagoland to Wisconsin. I can't say enough good things about the three guys we got!! The company that we rented the moving truck from royally messed up our order, causing us to be late for the time we'd asked the movers to arrive. They were SO understanding and great about it all! We had a great experience with Windy City Movers. Danny, John and Mike were on time, very accommodating and professional, they are a great team. They moved our 2 bed 2 bath apartment efficiently (especially difficult and heavy items), this team clearly has lots of experience and knows the best ways to move! They dismantled and put back together our larger furniture items. I had labelled all our boxes with the applicable room location and they moved them exactly as indicated on each box which was important as we moved to a 3 floor condo. I used Windy City Movers twice a few months ago (sorry for the late review but I did want to put in a good word for these guys). I did a lot of research on movers and felt confident about Windy City. The woman who helped me book the reservation was very helpful and knowledgeable, and put my mind at ease. The crew for both moves was great--on time, very hard working, fast, and friendly. They stayed in communication with us throughout the move, asking us about our preferences on moving tricky items and respecting any requests we had. I'd definitely recommend them and I'd use them again. I knock some points off for a few reasons. First, I wish there had been more communication from the office as my moving day approached. For example, I wish they would call the client a few days before the move to confirm everything (I had to call them to confirm both moves). It's very hectic as you prepare for a move, and it would be great if they could take care of touching base with you, especially if you booked the reservation well in advance. I also realized I had significantly more boxes than I originally thought, and I emailed the new count to the office about 36 hours before my move. I didn't hear back (and I should have called them again). Apparently, they didn't get the message and the truck they sent was too small (not to mention it was unmarked, with the ICC number taped to the door, and kind of tacky looking, so they might want to do something about that). Kudos to the guys for making the best of the situation; they did a great job fitting everything in the truck, but in the end, the time they took calculating each item took time. This also meant that at the end they rushed things a bit, so my couch, the final item moved, got banged up on the legs. Despite these mishaps, overall it was a smooth move. Please help support Windy City Movers. (Also, one of the most important things you can do when selecting a mover is to make sure they are registered with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC). If they are not, they are not a legitimate mover and if something goes awry--your stuff gets stolen, the mover injures himself on your property--you might not have a lot of recourse. The ICC has a database you can use to look up a mover. You can also call them to ask about a mover. If a mover gives you their ICC number, verify it in the database. One Chicago-based mover actually gave me a fake number and I found out from the ICC that they were illegimate.) read more
