Windy City Pizza is located in the Dam Neck Crossing Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. It is just south of the intersection of Dam Neck Rd. and General Booth Blvd. This was my first visit here, and was on July 18, 2026. When coming up to the place, it isn't hard to find once you come into the shopping center. Parking doesn't seem to be an issue since it is in a shopping center, and there are some vacant business spaces there too. It wasn't an issue on this visit either. Coming in from the northern entrance to the shopping center, the building is easily seen and there was a sign about their new rewards program. The visual appearance on the outside is simple, but effective for finding the place and looks to be well maintained. A few of my neighbors came with my mom and I as their dog had passed away a few days before this visit unexpectedly. What brought me to come try the place was a 15% off coupon that had come through the mail about a week beforehand. Once we came inside, we were immediately greeted by the hostess. You can see the Chicago theme all around the place inside. There were signs of that outside on the windows too. It was smaller than I thought inside, but there were a good amount of tables available. The neighbors came over a few minutes later to the table. Before the neighbors made it to the table, our server Kayla asked us what we wanted to drink and put 4 menus down at the table for us. I decided to go with water with lemon, while my mom went with Pepsi. A few minutes later our neighbors made it and they just got waters to drink. After a little while, we were ready to order. Before ordering the main courses, I ordered two appetizers, which were the Corn Fritters and the Cheesy Garlic Bread options. For the main courses, I had to go with the Deep Dish 8 Inch Personal Pizza with Pepperoni. My mom got the 10 Inch Personal Thin Crust Pizza with Green Peppers, Spinach, and Pepperoni. My neighbors got the Clark St. Thin Crust Pizza and a Chicken Parmesan Dinner entree. The appetizers would come out a few minutes later. The reason for doing a few appetizers is because the Deep Dish Pizza can take about 45 minutes to be ready. The Corn Fritters were really good. They did have a slight kick to it, but it was really good, even without using the Ranch Sauce. The Cheesy Garlic Bread was a great hit for me too. The bread was cooked perfectly and it was soft to eat, so that was a big win for that appetizer. During that time, my neighbors went over to the arcade type games available by the restroom. They played with the claw game and they were able to get two items out of it after several attempts. As expected, a little after 45 minutes, the food items came out to the table. All of the food items looked great and they were very hot. The Deep Dish Pizza with Pepperoni was bigger than it looked due to the thickness of it. It was really good though. I didn't eat the whole thing that day, but finished the rest the following day. Everyone else liked the entrees and pizzas they had ordered as well. Overall, this was a very good first experience here. The food and service were great during this visit. The ambiance inside is casual, which is typical for a place like this. As of the date of this visit, there were no fees for using a credit card. If you're looking for a nice locally owned pizza type of place, this place is worth checking out. read more

The inside decor is very much transportive to Chicago, having been there many times it felt like I was somewhere in the Windy City. The waitress was very nice, but could haven a bit more attentive. We knew we wanted to try a deep dish, but were surprised that it would take 45 minutes so we put that order in right away within 5 minutes of sitting down. We then thoroughly looked over the menu and ordered mozzarella planks, fried pickles, Ciscero, and the Stony. The deep dish literally had about 2 pounds of cheese and was quite delicious with a crispy crust! Ciscero was so good it was disappeared before my husband let me get a taste. Stony pizza was perfectly balanced of sauce, chicken, and cheese. The mozzarella planks had an amazing cheese pull and were worth the slight mouth burn. Fried pickles came out as spears, they were good and had a good crunch to them still. My only con is, the only option for crust is thin. read more

Fast hot food, great crispy fries. Great staff. They were ready right at opening, and were not crowded yet. The Italian beef was hot and tender and freshly made, with a side of juice to pour all over the sandwich "wet"-style. It's comes with softly cooked sweet peppers, and you can get traditional hot giardiniera, too. I would prefer that the beef was cooked in a more flavorful marinade, but it might be better after it's simmered a bit longer, rather than first thing when they open. The roll is pillowy soft, but I would like the roll more if it was chewier like a crusty Italian bread. Hey, every Chicagoan has their opinion on the best Italian Beef :-) It's a nice large place with lots of seating, around 50 on the pool-table side and at least 25 more on the other side. Virginia Beach location. I am a born and raised Chicagoan from the south side. I love going back to Chicago to have a Chicago style hot beef sandwich. I will tell you now you won't get an authentic Chicago style beef sandwich here. It's does not compare. Chicago style beef is paper thin swimming is au jus. At the Windy City it was no different than any other beef sandwich I've had locally. Others with me had a deep dish pizza and their comment was " it was just Ok, nothing spectacular ". I went with their Famous Chicago style cheese and sauce. Sauce was great, crust was perfect, but the toppings were undercooked. The sauce was on top off the cheese which I did like, traditionally. Other than the cheese could've been more melted it was good. Called this order in 45 minutes early as suggested. For the first and last time, I ordered from here excited to try their deep dish pizza which they have a disclaimer that it takes 45 minutes to make. No biggie. I don't mind waiting and appreciated the heads up. The deep dish pizza with pepperoni cost $27!!! There are no size choices on their website so I assumed that for 27 freaking dollars, I'd be getting a large deep dish pizza! It tasted just ok to me but it was very filling. My husband liked it though. The pizza puff was $4.95, very small and tasted like a hot pocket or maybe like Tostino pizza rolls ewww and it didn't even come with sauce to dip it in. One of my favorite pizza places in Virginia Beach. Their deep dish is so flavorful and their crust is delicious. The staff is always very friendly and kind. But I think it's time to hang up the hat in this place. - Appetizers: The best thing about the corn fritters were the sauce. Chicken wings were the worst wings I've ever had. Honestly just skip the appetizers and get a pizza. - Kids menu: I was very happy to see that they even had a kids menu because that isn't super common. The pizza was flimsy, hard to pick up and eat, and really messily made. The spaghetti was just OK-- it was wayyyy too much pasta and it enough sauce. And the sauce itself was bland. - Deep dish pizza: Thud was always the star of our trip and sadly it just wasn't as good as I remembered. The dough was good but uneven at times. It was nice and cheesy but also really wet from the sauce, which I mentioned already was bland. - Service: The staff is really nice and very dry accommodating! If this review was based on that alone, I would be a 5 because they were great. But the focus is the food and it just didn't meet the mark. So long old friend! We're back a year later on a Friday night. They are open for dine-in and I saw the Blues Brothers! Ordered a couple of pies-1/2 cheese/1/2 Pepp, Sausage & Pepp, Sausage, Onion. Crust was thicker this time with an abundance of cheese. Delicious tomato Sauce was everywhere on top as it should be and fresh toppings made for the Deep Dish pizza I was craving! REAL TALK: I came here because of the name, and the fact that they had the pizza puff on their menu. I couldn't believe my eyes that there was a Chicago-style pizza joint in the area! Okay- so now I know that Chicago style pizza isn't my favorite. My personal impression is more like three stars, but since it is *the place* to get Chicago style deep dish pizza in the area and my friend loved it, I'm going to go ahead and round up to four. What it really comes down to is I don't love sauce. So having such a forward-facing saucy experience isn't something that really excited me. But what does excite me is all that cheese hiding under the sauce. That was excellent! The pie was cooked well. I ordered to-go during these COVID-19 times and it was ready when I arrived too. (I did order for pick up at 5:15, I hears a little closer to dinner time sometimes there is an extra wait.) It does take 45 minutes, so be prepared to have some patience no matter what time you order. I will say that the leftovers tasted almost as good as it did fresh. Pizza is truly magic that way. What can I say about Windy City pizza? I'd looked forward to trying this pizza for a couple of weeks. I'm a member of a local foodie group and was noting how much I missed a good deep dish, authentic Chicago style pizza. I'd had some of the best in Chicago like Giordano's and Gino's East. I watched some reviews on YouTube for Windy City. I saw that they have two locations, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, and we sat in hours of traffic, driving 2.5 hours away to get to the Virginia Beach location to give Windy City a try. The location looks clean, trendy...there is a pool table, video arcade games (I think I even spotted a pinball machine). There is a photo opportunity heading towards the bathroom with the Blue's Brothers (some 11 years prior, I got a photo with the same set up of the Blues Brothers in a Chicago airport). Very cool. I was excited! Seating was quick. We had called our pizza order in from the road, knowing that it would take about 45 minutes to make, and told them we'd be there for dine in. This was my husband's idea, and quite brilliant, because deep dish pizza's do take a while to make, and we were pressed for time. We were there on a Monday and not during a lunch or dinner rush. I think there was one gal who was serving everyone, so service was not good to say the least, but I'm forgiving because I know a lot of businesses are struggling to find employees these days. She didn't have a lot of tables, but the problem was, when she wasn't busy, she didn't utilize that time wisely by checking on her tables. She instead just stood around at the front of the restaurant, looking out the window, checking her phone, etc. Back to our arrival, we told her that we'd called our pizza in and she seated us in a booth towards the back and got our drink orders. When our drinks came out, I told her that we'd also like to put in for an order of cheesesticks. Our pizza came out in about 15 minutes from the time we'd arrived. It looked legit, but as soon as I bit into it, it was pure disappointment. For those that say (or think) that this is Chicago style pizza, I have to thoroughly disagree. Ugh. The sauce was not flavorful, not nearly enough cheese, not deep enough...I could go on and on, but you get the point. No, just no. When we were finishing up on the pizza, I requested our check. I'd given up on our appetizer of cheesesticks, that should have been done long before we'd been done eating. When I asked for the check, the waitress said, "Do you want your cheesesticks in a 'to go' box?" Normally, if my appetizer hasn't came by the end of my meal, I would request they take it from my check and forget about it. But I was feeling gracious and instead just said, "Sure". I'm glad, because the cheesesticks, even heated up in the microwave the next day, were actually quite good. Maybe their sandwiches, salads or wings are worth stopping for, but deep dish pizza is not. I'll hold out for the real thing when it comes to Chicago style pizza. This is more like Uno's. I say, "No go". read more

We enjoyed our family experience here on a Friday night! Arrived at 520pm and came just in time before they got busy! First, the service was amazing!!!! The staff was so on point and attentive to the all the families and diners needs. Started with two apps per Amanda our servers recommendation. The fried dough balls and the southwest egg rolls. Dough balls were my fav with creamy ranch sauce but the SW egg rolls were also good, paired with a sweet and sour sauce. We were warned of the 45 min wait for the deep dish pizza. It was 45 mins but worth the wait. Having had Chicago deep dish from Chicago, I would say this was pretty darn close! Windy City Pizza is so good but you must come with an appetite. That's a bonus right there because at the least you know their pizza will fill you up. Windy City's specialty are deep dish pizzas, which have obviously been made famous in the Windy City of Chicago. They pack on the cheese, which is layered at the bottom of the pie, then they throw in everything but the kitchen sink (if you ask, of course) to guarantee there'll be leftovers. If you're ready to devour some food I recommend the Heart Attack, which is a deep dish with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham AND beef. It is a sight to behold, and unless you come with a few friends you won't finish it. It is delicious to boot, so you can't go wrong. Outside of that, I've tried Windy City's Italian sausage, which is good and can fill you up, too. Service is excellent. I've dined at both locations and their employees (some work at both locations) are super nice. One night last summer, 6 of us came in for dinner at the VB location, not realizing they were about to close. Instead of turning us away they rolled out the red carpet for us and treated us well from start to finish. Because of that I will always recommend Windy City to anyone and everyone.
