Small shop. If I was to eat there again, I would probably order take out as it was not really a place staffed with waiters and waitresses to wait on you. My daughters ordered a 6 cut pizza and it was plenty big for them. They said it was very good but greasy. My husband got a pepperoni roll which he said was also good but again very greasy. I ordered a Philly steak and cheese sub. I was surprised it was on a homemade sub roll using their dough. Because of this the meat did not go throughout the whole sub. I love this place. After several years I am still ordering from them. So many reasons why. They have a parking lot! If you want to check them out and don't live at the oceanfront then you can park your car for free. It's small inside and very casual. I always get delivery but tonight I went to pick it up. You can walk off the beach and stop in and get a pizza. Very casual. Prices are very reasonable and the food is good. Consistent. And if you get delivery they package it very well. The spinach roll is my favorite.....I could get it every week. The staff is very friendly and I'm pretty sure they know me by now. I was so disappointed. My daughter and I came in here last night to eat. No one was in there eating. We stood at the counter for 5 minutes waiting on someone to come and greet us. An African American man came from a side door, looked at us and headed to the back without saying a word to us. I thought he was going to get someone; but no. He came back to the front, looked at us, put his earbuds in, and walked away without saying a word! At this point we just left! That was so disrespectful! We've eaten here a few times and it is always excellent. This time was delivery to our hotel during Covid. We ordered pasta marinara, chicken piccata, and chicken tenders. Delivery was so much faster than expected and everything was nicely wrapped in Saran to prevent leaks and all necessary accessories provided (utensils, plates). Chicken tenders were really crispy with good flavor. Chicken picatta was a generous portion and delicious. They did forget to include the marinara (requested on side and parm), but I called and they delivered those in a blink of an eye. The order included a nice, warm loaf of bread. With good reviews, we decided to give 19th St. Italian Bistro a shot, even though their were three pizza/Italian restaurants within two blocks of our hotel (35th and Atlantic). Since it was further away, we decided that delivery was the way to go. I did have an issue with the delivery person who went to the wrong hotel. I would expect that restaurants in the oceanfront area are pretty familiar with the hotels in the area, but the delivery guy was pretty lost. As for the food (pizza, penne, and salad) were all above average. Good portions for the salad and penne and freshly sliced Italian bread wrapped in foil. Despite not getting our food until about an hour after I ordered, hot items were reasonably hot. read more

Have to update this because we ordered last week and unfortunately, it wasn't as good as it was. The pizza was doughy and there wasn't a smidge of Marsala wine in the chicken Marsala we ordered. It literally tasted like chicken lo mein. Grew up eating Marsala dishes and I'm a chef and make chicken Marsala. Every so often I don't want to cook for myself so we order. Please tell your chef to use marsala wine in these dishes. It has a very distinct flavor and there was absolutely none of it in this dish. Very disappointing. I ended up throwing it out. read more

My wife and I split a cheese pizza, garlic knots, penne pasta, and a turkey sub. The pizza was the best part. Thin, NY style pizza with a great flavor. I would definitely order the pizza again if I came back. The crust would have been great with some homemade ranch, but it was a pretty bad tasting bottled kind. Everything else however just wasn't very good and/or was missing things. My wife's turkey hoagie did did not come with onion, which seems really odd for a sub of this sort. In fairness, we forgot to look/ask for it, but I just expected it. The sub also did not have nearly enough of the oil/vinegar dressing. The garlic knots were just ok, some of them were burnt though. On a dreary raining Saturday evening, not many places were open for seating at Virginia Beach during the Columbus Day weekend. Fortunately, 19th Street Bistro was open for takeout only - and our choice was perfect! Great taste, flavor, and portions - I ordered lasagna - a huge slice and warm bread (crisp, hard crust and soft, moist inside - perfect to mop up the awesome sauce); my wife ordered the vegetable wrap - and like the lasagna, the portion was unexpected humongous (two wraps) and very tasty. We also ordered side Greek salad which could have been entrée portions elsewhere! We were pleasantly surprised at the portions, taste, and affordability of the great Italian cuisine. The best part? Leftovers for lunch the next day! When it opens for dine-in, you should dine there because the smallish place has a simple décor beats our hotel room. Fresh, plentiful and cheap! The Caprese Salad was huge! Loads of thick mozzarella slices. Children's menu was also diverse and substantial! I received a text message that my food was ready and was walking over shortly afterwards to pick up the food. Pickup was easy. Walk up to the window at the counter and a moment later out the door. Fortunately it was not busy as I was ordering dinner on a Wednesday in the offseason. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees thinking this would feed 4 adults and it easily did. We had the chicken fettuccini and baked ziti entrees and the garlic knots and fried ravioli apps. The quantity and price of the food was on par. My favorite parts were the appetizers and highly recommend the friend ravioli. I'm not a huge fan of just pasta and sauce as an Italian dish but for our group this worked out really well. Flavor wise on the entree dishes it was a 3 rating but everything else was a 4 star. This is a perfect place to get takeout for a reasonable price and reasonable food to satisfy everyone in your party. I highly recommend the fried ravioli. Tucked into the back area of a fleabag hotel ground floor...no promise whatever as beingg anywhere near worthwhile. So I read the reviews, went in after ordering ahead and waited to pick up the grub after a full day of museum stuff. I was hankering for a veal cutlet and spaghetti... I also managed to talk the Queen Bee into spaghetti and meatballs...so on the way back to our humble hotel room on the oceanfront, I ordered ahead aS per above. So in I went and waited while they made our chow to order. Place is run by a collection of Soviet refugees: Russian, Belorussian and a pair of Kazakh brothers. Russian girl told me to have a seat and brought out a large glass of ice water for me as I waited. Seemed like zip as far as time went: all done in less than 20 minutes! Meatballs was actually just one huge meatball atop a pile of a sketties and marinara. Think tennis ball size, folks! Tasty, flavorfully succulent and not dry at all! Veal cutlet was good too; not too thick or thin; right amount of sauce and mozzarella. Well made sketties with sauce and some grated romano. Free loaf of freshly baked bread alongside too! All for only $28?! Woo!! Would I choose to hang around in there regularly? No! It has all the atmosphere of an opium den with the requisite charm of a bus depot restroom. However the chow is well worth the effort of going there and taking it back to a more comfortable surrounding when your options are limited. Our options were not, though. This is just what the doctor ordered for us. Speaking for myself, at least, I'd go back and try their pizza and other stuff too. They say that dumps make the best food.
