We recently went here for dinner. The food is so, so, & the prices are above average. Our server was great but then we got the check......my wife noticed a 3% surcharge and when she asked what it was for she was informed it was because we used a credit card. Well, this is the last time we will dine here! If you're going to add a surcharge for the most common method of payment and not inform the customer up front, you don't need my business! read more

Again, it's been some time since I've been to the Winfield. From the looks of my prior review, about two years. Not much has changed. Still a raucous bar scene but a nice place to hang out if you are with friends or even just want to watch one of the more than 16 TVs overhead (at least they play something different on each TV). The menu hasn't changed much. My favorite is still the Reuben. I always favor the Cajun fries though they weren't as spicy as in the past. A bit of a disappointment there. I tried a fish fry, which was unusual to say the least to be on the menu on a Wednesday evening but the beer battered fish was tasty and fresh. I've had better, but I've had much worse so I'm upgrading my rating from 3 to 4 stars. Our waitress was a delight and I think the personal service received is a big reason for why I'm a fan. That and the fact that the Winfield is one of the few places in town that serves food late is a reason I always like it. read more

Could not get enough of the Sicilian Calamari! It's an absolute must every time I go back! Also had the Chicken Parmesan which was incredibly delicious but the Sicilian Calamari was by far my favorite part of the meal. Very attentive service and strong drinks too! read more

The Winfield Grill is mostly a neighborhood bar. It is not as divey as other neighborhoods bars. As a matter of fact it has been updated and the interior is quite nice. But if you go during the week, especially evening time, you'll find mostly people from the area having a few beers and bar food. For that the Winfield Grill is quite good. Their beer selection is better than most neighborhood bars, still not as thorough as a fancier pub. Their bar food is quite good too. They know their fryers well. It gets a bit more problematic for the restaurant and brunch service, it tends to be spotty, and the food is frankly not that great. A bit bland and a bit safe. The brunch is similar, nicer setting than a diner, but the quality is not as high as other restaurants that offer brunch. Still, an omelette and a mimosa, is not a bad way to fully wake up on a Sunday. I visit this place occasionally because I live nearby, and I never had a horrible experience, I just never had a fantastic one. But when you've been around town and want to have a last beer or drink before going home, this is a great stop! I have heard that the crowds on the weekends can be quite unfriendly, but I've never had a problem, so I treat them as unsubstantiated rumors. read more

Everything you need to know in two words: Bottomless Champagne. Sunday brunch at this joint is a state-of-the-art business, and not just because I regularly abuse my champagne privileges. Do I need to tell you how delicious hollandaise sauce is? They have it here. The Winfield's corned beef hash is beyond good: it's really good. My hair-splitting criticisms are as follows: you can't just get eggs and toast, it always "comes with" meat and home fries, which is preposterous, and the restroom is way too trendy. I have been living in the neighborhood for fifteen plus years. I've been to the Winfield several times and it's never met my expectations. This past Sunday was no different. The "spicy" beef breakfast burrito was anything but. To be honest would have preferred a breakfast burrito from Taco Bell ... yes it was just that bad. The side sausage was cold, I mean cold. I suspect someone put it in the microwave and forgot to push the buttons. The website indicated they take reservations, I called and discovered that was not correct. I actually over heard a call where someone was attempting to make reservation and was told that as well. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is the services was very good. Sorry three attempts to find a reason why this place is always busy escapes me. I'm never going to know because three attempts is so any place gets from me. read more

I've been to this grill a few time. I normally come for Sunday brunch. Which I have enjoyed each time. This time I stopped in on a Thursday night after work. After about a 15 minute wait we went to our table it was very dimly lit very nice for the atmosphere not very good for reading a menu. The food was good. The fried chicken was good but the sweet potato fries are hands down my favorite thing. And I took a side of granny sauce home with me it was so good. I was not very impressed by the Winfield sangria. The wait staff was very night. I will differently go back for dinner. read more

I am stuck between three stars and four stars. I have always enjoyed my dinners at the Winfield grill. The food is decent, the service is decent and the atmosphere is fun. We went there a couple nights ago to have dinner as I am in town for the holidays. We all ordered a steak and I was pretty disappointed with how the steak came out. I asked for medium rare and it was very tough and chewy. When I order medium rare, I wanted it to be juicy and soft. The risotto was excellent, the salad dressing was excellent and the drinks were excellent. Overall, a good experience and a nice place to go for dinner with the family. read more

We always have a good meal here. We live in the neighborhood and this has become a go to spot. Lunch, dinner and brunch are always great! The french onion soup is one of my favorites and the overall atmosphere is very comfortable and quaint. Winfield has my heart again. I came here for brunch on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. Two complimentary mimosas with any entrée purchase sounded like an incredible deal. The menu had a wide range of options. I would feel comfortable bringing someone with a lot of dietary restrictions to this brunch without them having to worry about modifying an order. I ordered the breakfast burrito which had egg whites, turkey sausage, feta cheese and a bunch of other stuff. The burrito was sinful and came with actual fresh fruit. Friend ordered the special which was a shrimp frittata and oh my goodness. He didn't finish his meal so I finished it for him...it was that good. The mimosas were delicious and strong. A little too strong for my lightweight self. I'll definitely come back for more brunches. Also the prices were very reasonable, brunches for two including tip was 25 bucks. read more

Winfield is my go to place for getting a drink and watching sports games (with my boyfriend). I'm here probably once a week. The bartenders are INCREDIBLE. They ask you what you'd like right when you finish your drink. It's like they have a little reminder. Their boneless bites with the Winfield sauce are a staple and I HIGHLY recommend. My wife and I have been going here for 17 years. Back before the bar was renovated and expanded. Back when the Buffalo Bites were $5.95 (best deal in Rochester 6 years ago). We've eaten here or gotten take out probably 200x. For a stretch with the old owners, all the waitresses knew what we ordered. They have a good bar area that gets a good crowd on Fri and Sat nights. Decent draft selection and sight lines for watching sports. Fri night they have a popular, tasty, fish fry. My wife used to order the Chicken French all the time but they changed the recipe a bit. The portions are large for their dinners which include a salad. We've tried just about everything on the menu. We still eat there occasionally but do take out more often of late...mostly wings, buffalo bites, etc. I feel they have some of the best, consistent, wings in Rochester. If they had outside seating, we would go in the summer more. As long as we live in the area, we'll keep going. read more

I've been here a bunch of times in the past and always thought it was a nice semi upscale bar environment. Their selection of drinks and bar foods were always delicious. In the last year, I've gone twice just for dinner. Both times the food was absolutely amazing. I only ordered a burger and french onion soup. It is easily one of the top french onion soups in the area and even my dad agrees it was one of the best burgers he'd had in Rochester. read more

Really cool vibes - definitely recommend going for drinks/to watch a game. separate dining area looked really cute but didn't have TVs. We sat in the bar area and it had a great crowd on a sat night. Not too crowded but almost every seat taken. However, we were not impressed with the food. We got the buffalo bites, which honestly just tasted like fried breading with no chicken. Was really dry and gross honestly. And I got the caprese wrap with fries, both of which were also very deep fried. I left feeling pretty gross and unsatisfied. They need to improve their seating system. We had put our name on the list and after waiting a hour in the bar where it is hard to hear they called us. But when we got up to the hostess someone else stole our table. Luckily they made it right and seated us right away at a different table. The bread they give you is served with a garlic butter which was ok. I ordered the chicken french which was slightly over cooked, and overall subpar for Rochester. My wife ordered the filet which is served with blue cheese on top. The filet was good but she felt the blue cheese was too much. You know, I keep going back for more to this place and I don't know why. I have never had a horrible meal, but it's a place where I leave mad every time I have breakfast because of the cost. The staff is friendly, the food is good, pretty average breakfast, and they do have a great mimosa special, but I don't have anything to rave about in for the Winfield. The place is always packed of people, ages 5 to 80! This sunday I sat close to the window and I watched all the people come in; you can't really pinpoint the typical person that would eat at the winfield, everyone goes there, but I don't think its anything special. I have only been there for breakfast, so I am not really sure how the rest of their food is. When I go to breakfast I prefer a place where I can walk in, know I am getting great food, eat and then walk out knowing that I didn't break the bank for eggs, home fries and toast. Came for Sunday brunch, which is a busy time! The wait can be long on Sundays, but it was worth it... complimentary mimosas are served after noon. We sat in the huge bar, at a high top table, and would have watched soccer on the large TVs except that the it's very loud when it's busy. Our waitress was great and the food came out much faster than I anticipated-- giant portions that in the end, proved to be too much. My Eggs Florentine was delicious-- mounds of spinach, fluffy poached eggs and a perfect hollandaise, but the home fries were a complete disappointment-- those pre-cut frozen squares that come out of a bag. They were seasoned well, sure, but seasoning on fried cardboard would taste the same. My dining partner was sad that the scrambled eggs weren't made with milk, but loved that the waitress brought her fresh strawberries for her pancakes. The last cup of coffee we both had was dregs-of-the-pot and sad. The mimosas, however, were delish. read more

Went for dinner around 730/8 last nite, when we walked in the place was packed and by 815 we looked up and the place had died down. My guest and I had a quiet booth, tucked away in the corner - although it was near the kitchen the noise level was still enjoyable and didn't interfere with our conversation. The food was excellent, we started off with frites smothered in cheese, steak and peppers. We then continued to share buffalo bites, which were awesome. I expected them to be heavily breaded like most places, but these chicken bites were very juicy with flavor and not over powered by breaking. The last entree we split was Chicken du Chef which was massive... But even better than the size was the taste! read more

Stopped at this establishment for early Saturday night meal. Service was friendly and professional. Noise level decent, well space tables, clean and interesting menu. We ordered meals for three, which took over 45 minutes for main entrees. My meal contained four undercooked scallops and a side of inedible mushy grain with hard asparagus. My friend had a clam with scallops, which he enjoyed. His meal came with either soup or salad. He opted for seafood soup, which turned out to be an additional three dollars. Our third meal was chicken sandwich with fries. Two sodas and an ice tea were included. The bill came to almost $80.00, with tip $100.00! Two meals were mediocre at best. If our waitress had not been excellent, I would have given this restaurant a lower rating. Nice looking establishment, great staff and nice location. Food needs to improve and way over priced considering the ambiance is a local neighborhood bar. read more

Very nice restaurant / bar. Decor has an elegant yet comfortable feel. Food was typical Rochester fair, fresh and delicious. All the servers were extremely friendly and helpful with the wiggly baby with us. Parking was limited but will absolutely go back here. read more

Wear you're Long-Johns! I just had dinner and the food was fine, the service staff was great! But...it's like eating in a walk-in cooler! My hands are frozen, my ears and nose not far behind. Apparently, my complaint has not the first, well rehearsed rebuttal didn't cut the mustard. Our food was cold before we could finish, on a good note my beer never got cold! Staff was concerned with no ability to correct the situation. Never did a person in a management position choose to address the situation. Out for a bite one day while shopping w/ my dh. We walked into Winfield Grill & was greeted AND seated within a few minuets.Loved the old time, rustic decor. Old fashioned tin ceilings & big chunky wooden tables a crystal chandelier in one dinning room. Fun place. Had a hamburger, plain & simple with tomato, onion & lettuce with sweet potato fries. Ordered it medium well and low & behold, it actually came that way! My dh had soup and salad & he loved it. Have no idea what soup he had. I was busy eating my yummy hamburger & fries. They have an extensive & interesting menu that feature American fare including daily specials. The prices not bad. . The wait staff was most accommodating to our needs. It took a long time for the food to come out possibly because the place was just slammed as we arrived. The waitresses ( yes, two of them) were very good at checking on us ( tapping on the table always helps w/ attention getting). One pm might be a better time to eat here. I think it was a pretty nice place with well prepared food and great service and reasonable prices. It also has a nice bar if you have a desire for a nice calming drink after shopping w/ your dh for a new rug. Would like to return to try more of the extensive menu. Potentially this is a great place for a drink & meal, but we were let down in so many ways. 1. Firstly it took a very, very very long time for our meal to come out. Something had gone wrong and eventually host came and offered free drinks because of the long delay (I didn't take the offer because I was tired and just wanted to get out of there, but my wife did get a top up). 2. after we were waiting a long time for the meal, we were looking for our server, but for 15 minutes, she was missing in action, growing to our frustrations. She should have been proactive in letting us know of the problem, rather than just letting us sit there in our frustration. 3. When the meal eventually came, my filet was cooked to perfection, however, scallops were cold (was going to say something, but because of long wait didn't want to wait again). My wife had pork, it was dry and overcooked (not sure many places in USA know how to cook pork, we are living in Europe and are use to great pork dishes). 4. Meal was to come with side of my choice, that didn't arrive either! Again couldn't be bothered saying anything, because I would have to wait for it and I just wanted to get this bad experience over. 5. When bill came, noticed a charge for soup (that was meant to come with meal). Before ordering I asked our server what soup came with the meal, and she said, "clam chowder, seafood brisk or french onion". I chose clam chowder. So, when it was a charge on the bill, I asked why considering it came with the meal. She said it was because it was seafood. I feel it is not right to give a list of soups that come with the meal, only to charge extra (I should have been told this to begin with). So because of all these frustrations, we could not recommend Winfield to others. read more

Our parents wanted a fish fry so... Winfield Grill! This is a good restaurant for hearty pub food & generous portions, a meal easily serves up 2-3 leftover servings, so the value is well-worth the price. For its size inside, the restaurant still has a cozy vibe with the dark hardwood interior and seating nooks. The bar is huge and they have an excellent menu to appeal to folks just stopping by for a quick bite and a drink before a sporting event/concert/movie. Unpretentious and a safe bet as far as having something on the menu to appeal to everyone. read more

This is going to be a weird review. So the food is decent. Service is friendly and quick. We ordered two meals and two drinks. Asked for a container for the left overs. All fine. I ordered a cup of soup to go. On the bill, I was charged a "togo" fee on top of the cost of the soup. What? It's nonsense, and frankly, extremely annoying. It wasn't like I ONLY ordered take out. Plus, why was my container for the food I didn't finish free? Just stupid. And honestly, it annoys me enough that I don't think I'll go back. Seriously? A togo fee? read more
