I'm a big fan of the bar area at Winfield. It's spacious, has a great atmosphere, and the bartenders are decent. I've had various drinks there and they're all great. The food is good but nothing to brag about. I've had better burgers, fries, nachos, and wings elsewhere. If you go to Winfield, go primarily for a couple drinks with great friends. Went here on a whim last night and I am only disappointed that we didn't try Winfield sooner! We were greeted by a kind host and served by Emily, who was attentive, friendly, and so helpful when we asked for recommendations! She was also quick to bring a refill of my friend's soda during the meal, without being asked. It was Friday so we had to try the clam chowder, and it was amazing. Definitely made fresh with quality ingredients. For dinner my friend had the fish fry, and thoroughly enjoyed it. He especially loved the tartar sauce which he said tasted homemade. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich with Winfield sauce, and it was outstanding. I am somewhat of a purveyor of buffalo chicken sandwiches, and this was out of this world: spicy but not overkill, delicious bun, good helping of blue cheese, fried to crispy perfection. The sweet potato fries were good, too. We cleaned our plates and will certainly be back to support this awesome place! I discovered this place thanks to Rochester's CM, Breanna. Unfamiliar with the area, I was a bit surprised to see such a bustling restaurant and bar. The restaurant is separated into two distinct sections: bar and dining room. Surprisingly, the bar takes up just as much space as the dining room. Being a Friday night, there were also just as many patrons at the bar as there were in the dining area. A mixed crowd of patrons in all age groups. I was also immediately impressed with ambiance and physical decor of the restaurant. The open concept rectangular bar was very inviting. The bar also had plenty of functional counter-top space and and numerous TV screens to boot. The dining area was upscale and not typical of your average bar and grill. From the vintage ceiling tiles, to the light fixtures with low-wattage bulbs and the walnut stained tables, everything exuded class. I applaud the interior designer. Ambiance - (4/5) The service was attentive. Despite being fairly busy, I was able to grab a drink at the bar quickly. There were 3 bartenders working at the main bar and things ran efficiently. The dining room was no different as our waters were refilled quickly and food orders were taken promptly. The waitstaff was polite, color-coordinated and easy on the eyes. I also jumped tables midway through my meal to join a friend and the waitstaff had no problems with me taking my food to another table. Service - (4/5) Unfortunately, the most disappointing part of the restaurant experience was the food, which also happens to be the most important part. I think I may have just ordered the wrong dishes. I ordered the Pesto Bread appetizer for $7.95 which was described as "crispy French bread topped with basil pesto, slices of tomato and melted mozzarella cheese." It was just okay. Large portions: 5 one-inch thick slices, maybe an inch thick. While i'm sure it was crispy at one point, by the time it came out to the table it became mostly soggy probably due to all the melted cheese and pesto . I felt like some finger food, so I ordered the Buffalo Bites for $7.95 which were touted as "the best in Rochester" and "like no other" on the menu. I should have known better. How good can chicken bites be? Well they kinda tasted like the frozen Tyson chicken I have at home. The sauce made it average at best. My buddy ordered the burger and was happy with it. He said it was on par or better than the burger at the Tap & Mallet. I've also heard that the Fish Fry is good too. This is a good place to eat, however, 2 brunches in the last month ruined by one guy named Ian. First time, he is our server and never once refills my girlfriend's coffee or brings ketchup she asked for. We were there for an hour. When he took our order/initally greeted us he literally walked up and just nodded his head at me as if he were prompting me to order. I thought maybe he couldn't speak or something. Very strange. That same service he is counting cash tips off a table in the center of the room where he is serving people making faces and complaining about not being tipped well. Next time we show up we're waiting in line and we see him kinda hanging out at the host area. We stand there for a while as a large party is trying to be sat in front of us. There was a couple behind us. I ONLY GIVE THIS PLACE 2 stars bc the French onion soup was that GOOD! Had a great night at the Fringe Fest and needed a bite to eat. Came in around 8:45 on a Sunday night. Was given late night menus, which was new. I asked when the late night menu started, the bartender said "nine o'clock". But it was 8:45?? She replied she was new and this was her first night, then walked away. Not even asking if we wanted a drink. The patron next to me seemed quite upset as well with the late night menu, asking the same bartender when it started, to which she replied again "I'm new here", and walked away. A gentleman bartender, Saunders, came over after about 7-8 minutes after that and took our drink order. My boyfriend then asked if I could still ordered soup, French onion, he checked in the kitchen and they said yes. I appreciate him taking time to do that. We then also ordered wings and potato skins. Like I said above, the French onion soup was AMAZING! Delicious melted cheese, loaded with onions and the broth was killer! Full of flavor. The wings... eh. We got the Signature sauce which we were told was sweet and spicy, not spicy at all. We put tabasco all over it for flavor. The potato skins,,, yuck. I don't even want to talk or remember those. The service though.. I can say was terrible. Besides the gentleman seeing if I could still order soup. The "new" girl ignored us and went about cleaning the bar and liquor bottles and we eventually, after 15 minutes of lots of waiting and staring had to do the "hand wave" and shout excuse me to get someone to notice us. I have been going to the Winfield for Years, I used to live down the street so got takeout often. I was feeling nostalgic and ordered takeout to bring home... Potato skins were horrible, the bacon was chewy and tough to bite through. The Buffalo Bites were just sitting in grease instead of actual wing sauce, they were super chewy. On a perfect Earth, sunday brunch spots would have consistently good food with unlimited mimosas at reasonable prices, have little to no wait even at 11am and be centrally located with plenty of parking. Winfield does more than half of these! We showed up at 1055am on sunday expecting a long wait, but there wasnt. We got a complimentary muffin basket with brunch. The mimosas here hold there own and are not the lame weak ones I'm used to. The OJ here is served in a hugh glass and I would have skipped it had I remembered about the mimosas. Our waitress was competent and while we didnt dine outside, they have some decent al fresco options in nice weather. In fact, the only pitfall of brunch was the food...not terrible but Ive had better. My scrambled eggs were so tough, they needed a butter knife to cut through,,,yuck. The french toast was lukewarm...I hate when its not hot enough to melt even the spreadable whipped butter :-( Their version of home fries is not the hot off the griddle kind you see in diners, but more like what you would get at a fast food joint or in your own toaster oven. The frittata I tasted though was pretty good, so I would recommend that instead of what I ordered. I hate waiting for a table on a sunday morning, and Winfield is easy to get to and park at so Im sure I'll be back someday. This is a relatively popular spot for the North Winton neighborhood so don't be surprised by a wait. I've been to the Winfield grill for brunch twice now. It's definitely a hopping spot and prepare to wait at least 30 minutes for a table. However, the wait is absolutely worth it. Brunch starts at 10am but starting at noon, you receive two complimentary mimosa's with your entree purchase. The first time I went, we arrived at 11:30 because we called ahead and heard there was a 30 minute wait and we wanted those free Mimosa's. We stood in the bar area while we waited, purchased a mimosa, and enjoyed watching the sports on the TV. It's a great, friendly atmosphere and the bartender was quick to get to me even with how busy it was. The second time we came at 9:50am waiting in the parking lot for them to open because we knew it would get packed quick. We were seated right away near the windows which was lovely. Our waitress was quick and attentive. Both times we were brought free muffins for the table. My husband ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon. It came with crispy home fries. It was a giant portion and my husband said it was delicious. The food was fresh tasting and hot from the kitchen. I ordered the eggs Benedict with home fries and I could barely finish my meal it was so big. Even though it wasn't the 12-2 free mimosa time, the waitress still came over and topped my mimosa off for me during the course of my meal. It was a really nice surprise! The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere in here is very fun. We could hear people in the bar area cheering for a soccor game, their were kids having fun with their families. The only problem I ran into was parking when we arrived for the 12pm lunch. The parking lot at the restaurant and across the street were both full and we had to drive around for a few minutes to find parking. I've been here 3x to eat and each time there food is disappointing. I got a pesto bruschetta chicken sandwich and arancini balls. Both had no flavor and the arancini's had a tiny bit of meat in the middle. Yesterday, I went there and played it safe by ordering garlic parm wings. I figured we live in Rochester no business should ever screw up wings. I was wrong... I thought they messed up my order and brought me plain wings. Nope the waitress confirmed they were garlic parm wings even though I saw no garlic, no butter and about 5 sprinkles of I think parmigiana cheese. They forgot my side of Winfield sauce. Great pub/restaurant with an old school charm. I always go for chicken wings and I am never disappointed. The chicken parmesan chicken wings are my favorite, I want to say the best that I've had. I also tried the Winfield sauce this go around and I was not disappointed. My friend got the grown up grilled cheese which she loved. Someone else ordered the chicken French soup and the Asian salad. I've decided this place isn't my cup of tea for a regular visit. I think there are a few other spots in the neighborhood that will take precedence over Winfield. The dining room space is really beautiful with a lot if care taken in the remodel with beautiful crystal light fixtures, big cozy booth space, stained wood tables and clean design. So the atmosphere is a win, but the people hanging there aren't my thing. The bar is pretty open with high ceilings and tons of TVs for the sports lovers -- a hot spot during football season for sure. There are a few booths along the front windows (my preferred spot to sit!) At night, it gets pretty bro-y with the late night crowd and reminds me of a club on east end. No gracias, not my scene. The food is hit or miss. It's just not consistent. The pita Mac is one of my go-tos, but sometimes they overcook it even though I ask for medium every time. I like their steak fries and their pasta salad is a good option too (oil based with chunks of cheddar, art hearts and olives mixed with tri-color rotinis). I also recently ordered the buffalo chicken salad and it was served with iceberg, which had no flavor, there was too much hot sauce and that was about it. There were carrots and celery sticks on the side so it really was more like a chicken breast tossed in buffalo sauce atop semi-inedible lettuce -- not a salad as I know one. I've also had their buffalo chicken sandwich which is panko crusted and seemed to absorb more oil than other battered or breaded crispy chicken. Their sauce is a touch too acidic and harsh for my liking, but I have to give their Winfield house sauce a try since others say it's good. Their beer selection leans toward the typical domestic/import options. Not a lot of craft beer on the menu here. I usually end up having a Blue Moon or a Sierra Nevada. Their breakfast is no longer as fun and celebratory as it once was as they had to put the kabash on bottomless mimosas, but you can still grab a decent breakfast and two mimosas for a deal. It's a popular place and I wouldn't cross it off for good. It may be your style, just not for me. Great spot to watch sports and hang with your bros. read more

Winfield, I am into you. I've been here twice, both on business occasions to wish off employees who are leaving the company. The first time I couldn't enjoy anything but conversation of staff members, because I was on the 24 day challenge - couldn't drink alcohol or eat anything enjoyable lol. Second time I ordered a few vodka, sodas and the best wings!! I came here for lunch with some coworkers and had a great experience. I had never been here but my husband recently came with his father and enjoyed it so all the more reason to come; I was excited when my coworkers picked this place out. We got at the restaurant just after 12:00 PM and we were seated right away. There are two sides to the restaurant; one side is the main dining area and the other side is the main bar area. We were seated at the main bar area but that was fine since it was 12:00 PM and the bar was empty. We were seated at a booth which is fine but I know I am alone when I say I hate booths. I don't really know why some people love them so much. I hate the idea of being stuck on the inside or having to move every time someone else has to get up. Really the main reason I hate booths is because the space between me sitting back in the chair and the table is too large. I end up having to sit on the edge of the seat and can't relax or I can't reach my food or eat over my plate. The space here was really large. If I go again with my husband or friends I will most likely request a table. Our waitress was great and was really tentative. She was always around and was quick to help us with any needs but she really anticipated all of our needs ahead of time. I ordered the roast beef melt. This was out of my comfort zone because I really only ever order chicken or chicken parm. anywhere. I was glad I did though. The beef so soooo juicy and yummy. There was just the right amount of beef to roll and a little bit of extra juice. The mozzarella on top just made it even bet-ter. I also got steak fries and a pickle. The fries were fried perfect and I love pickles so you really can't go wrong there. The thing I loved about the roast beef the most that others won't like is how cooked it is. I do not like any pink and I did not see any in sight. Those who like really pink beef may find the beef to be dry. I say fine don't order it, more for me. The only complaints of the trip were that my spoon and another coworker's spoon were dirty. We didn't mind because we didn't use them. Another coworker unfortunately did not get a good bun to chicken ratio on her sandwich. I know that seems petty, but it is pretty important. But Emily, who was our server, did a fantastic job! The reason for 4 and not 5 stars are a few... Although I respect the brunch hour, I did not want eggs. I wanted a salad or a sandwich and that was not an option with the brunch. I don't think they should call this brunch, it is really just breakfast. Also it is served until 3pm! They need to get more options on their menu for those who do not want breakfast food late on a Sunday. We had a child with us who just wanted chicken fingers and they could not even do that! Further the portions were HUGE. Enough for 3 people to share the brunch burger... it was too much. Also, it was evident the hostess was flustered. During a recent windy and snowy day, I found myself craving a sandwich and fries. My friends were beyond excited - I effectively never crave anything "American"(besides BBQ, pizza and fried chicken. I really liked the atmosphere/decor. It reminded me of a cabin in the mountains - cozy and warm. (and the falling snow outside helped). I appreciated the separation of the bar area with all the TVs from the quieter dining area. We were seated immediately as it was pretty dead when we got there (but it filled up rapidly in the next 45m or so). We ordered the french onion soup, cajun chicken sandwich, roast beef sandwich and taco salad. The french onion soup came out at an expected pace. It was rich, beefy, salty and covered with plenty of cheese. It was actually a little too salty for me (and I was just sampling a little) but the overall flavour was good. Maybe 30-40 minutes after the soup, we got our entrees. It felt really long given that there were only a couple of other tables present when we placed our orders. My Cajun Chicken sandwich hit the spot - the bun was toasted well, the chicken was well spiced and there was an abundance of jalapenos on it. However, I wish I didn't get the Cajun fries. The spice was far too strong and they had applied way too much of it on the fries They tasted like a slightly crunchy and spicy garden (one of the most "herby" Cajun blends I have tasted). The roast beef sandwich came out without horseradish but when we finally got a hold of our server, it was quickly rectified. The taco salad apparently had non standard taco salad ingredients in it - my friend said it had a homemade dressing and tortilla chips on the side (in case the fried taco shell was not enough?). Overall, both my friends enjoyed their meals. The service was spotty. Our server was hard to locate and the dining room wasn't really that big. Maybe she was also working in the bar area. I will definitely go back when my friends really want some American food. If the service is better and the food comes out at a more reasonable pace, I will up the review to 4 stars. read more

We recently went here for dinner. The food is so, so, & the prices are above average. Our server was great but then we got the check......my wife noticed a 3% surcharge and when she asked what it was for she was informed it was because we used a credit card. Well, this is the last time we will dine here! If you're going to add a surcharge for the most common method of payment and not inform the customer up front, you don't need my business! read more
