Made me feel like I was in Yosemite or Big Bear. It even had that mountain / woodsy smell. The staff were very friendly and soulful. I was served by Sandman. Very chill dude. Made me feel like family. He broke down the menu for me and shared with me how the wings are prepared along with some of their signature sauces. I've had this on my list to try for quite some time. I enjoyed every bite of my Jamaican jerk wings. One of the better jerk sauces I've had in a while. Next time I'd ask if they can do all flats. You can also pick the heat level to your flavors & They have some really unique flavor options. My husband got the pork chops & really liked them. The wings were cooked right, they don't fry their wings but smoke them. The HotLanta Peach was good and smoky just like how I like 'em, but the Lemon Pepper Hot left us wondering if they gave us the wrong order - definitely not the Lemon Pepper wings that we are used to. Only after nibbling on the third wing, we could eventually detect the hint of barely-there lemon pepper; the hot sauce definitely overpowered everything else. One thing to note is when contacted, they were very quick to remedy the situation. They have a lot of seatings both indoor and outside (covered). Definitely a good place to hang out at. We also got a pint of the Creamalicious ice cream, they only had 3 flavors available at the time of our visit. Five of us had dinner here tonight. I had the catfish, the others had talopia, pork chop and wings. Our sides were collard greens, mac and cheese and bake beans. The meals came out rather quickly and everything was hot. Everyone was more than pleased with their meal. The only draw back was the noise. What an amazing hidden treasure this restaurant is!! From the name, you would expect a fast-food sports bar. (And I witnessed her giving each and every customer that same respect, which I appreciated even more -- this is how they do things here). I ordered fried green tomatoes that were absolutely perfect -- thin, well-coated, and crisp. But it was the home-made honey mustard dip that accompanied them that really blew me away! The yams were excellent -- as per my past experiences with this dish in other restaurants, they weren't mushy or overly sweet. Instead, you would tell they were freshly made, seasoned perfectly, and had an interesting unusual kick (maybe cloves?) that made them special. The cornbread was fluffy and tasty, and the collard greens were good, though could have been spicier. The catfish was cooked perfectly. I did think it was over-salted, but it worked well once you dipped it in the provided tartar sauce. Where do we even begin! Last night in an effort to continue our support of black owned businesses, We learned about Wing Champ, a relatively new restaurant in the city. I had never even heard of it before yesterday. I saw the reviews on here and directly made our way to the restaurant. When you first pull up you might think to yourself "Is it worth it?" We ordered a Blue MF because I'd never heard of it before...think a Long Island but Blue. My Lord! So much liquor but so very worth it and only needed one. Now let's get to the food. Baby listen! The wings (BBQ & HotLanta Peach), the mac, the greens, the potato salad, cornbread all were BOMB.COM! So good. BUT THOSE YAMMMS?! Jesus was back there cooking them up. Every bite made me shout! The service is impeccable. Which is a breath of fresh air because sometimes our own can be rough. But Vince and his team were epic. They must've made an extra batch of yams because he brought more over...not even knowing yet how much I loved them. Legit made me cry!! Carry out is never the best you can get somewhere so I took that into consideration while reviewing. Anyways, my favorite thing was definitely the greens. They taste similar to when I make them, so I was definitely happy. The hot garlic wing sauce delicious and we ate those first. You can taste the smoky flavor throughout the wing. I would give this place a chance in person. The negatives - they forgot my ranch, the fries were super soggy, the Buffalo dip was so greasy. The wings were the large blown up wings that usually have no flavor (but the Smokey flavor was throughout). I found this place on a whim one day while driving around with my wife. I pulled up the great Yelp reviews and saw what appeared to be very southern inspired dishes. I have now been here twice in a two weeks because their food was simply amazing and brought me and family back to our southern roots. First of all, the wings may be the best I've had anywhere, anyplace or at anytime. They smoke their wings to infuse the extra flavor and the wings are not dry and perfectly accented by their variety of original wet and dry rub combinations. I would recommend the Brown Sugar Bourbon and/or the Georgia Peach. You know the wings are good when they don't bother bringing out ranch or blue cheese because the flavor is already perfect. The other items are their sides which are served in bowls like you would find at a traditional meat and three style restaurant. We tried the Mac & Cheese, Potatoes/Onions, Collard Greens and Coleslaw. All were perfectly seasoned and the best I've had anywhere around Cincinnati. The last item I would recommend is the sweet potato muffin, served warm with melted butter, you can't go wrong. Wow, what a find. Some of the best wings I've ever had. Between my wife and I, we had brown sugar bourbon (mild), hotlanta peach (mild), spicy garlic (med) and Buffalo(med). They were all delish but those brown sugar bourbon... killer! Then the sides said "hold my beer!" The fried potatoes are not fries, but you could serve at home with anything... nicely cooked with amazing flavor. Green beans and cole slaw were excellent as well. I will say the wings were a bit pricy at $18 for 10. Sides were $12 for the 3, including a healthy piece of cornbread. Beer, on the other hand was relatively cheap at $5 for a draft. Went here for lunch and asked about wait times. The guy at the front said there was a "rush" and it would take 30 minutes to receive food. There was a family of 5 at one table and 3 people at the bar. I dont know how a place thats reviewed so highly would call that a "rush" but ok. My friend and I sat down a booth and we were handed menus... THE MENUS WERE FILTHY. Actual dry food was still baked all over them. The menus were sticky to the touch. The laminate was also broken in places which was very off putting. Next was the filthy and sticky floor that gave the impression that its never been cleaned. We are delighted with this find! We were in the area and went because of the great reviews. Don't let the curb appeal fool you! The dining room was clean and had a fun vibe. It was lunch, but seemed like it would be lively in the evening. The service was amazing. All the ladies were super friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding. Once upon a time there was a soul food restaurant in Hamilton called Mahogany's. Their food was so good it was beyond words & just had to be experienced. Which I did... many times. Each time I wondered why no one else was able to make these dishes taste like as good as this. I brought many different friends at various times, & they agreed with my assessment. One day, years ago, Mahogany's opened a new swanky location at The Banks. Sadly, this meant closing their Hamilton location. Even more sadly, they never quite had the complete menu that they once did. Eventually, after some trouble with Hamilton County or something, that location closed & Mahogany's was no more. I think I actually mourned the loss of never being able to have that food again. Fast forward to 2020: we just sat through a pandemic & shelter-in-home, & followed it with a cry for justice & equality for all, because black lives DO matter. In this time, a lot of talk began about supporting black-owned businesses & I began to reminisce fondly about the best black-owned restaurant I had ever experienced, Mahogany's. This lead me to search for its owner, Liz Rogers, & see what see was up to these days, if anything. It was then that I learned about Original Wing Champ & after glancing even at the current soft-opening menu, it was like a prayer had been answered. Today I took my wife with me to Wing Champ, telling her tales of great meals I had had previously at Mahogany's & hoping beyond hope that this would even come CLOSE to that. I am so happy to report that it indeed did. The transcendent food that I once knew & thought lost was back once again! I had the tilapia fish dinner with the baked mac & cheese, yams, & corn bread. It was like visiting an old friend. The fish is breaded & fried just right & perfect with some hot sauce & tartar sauce. Each fillet was smaller than what I used to get, but there were 3 pieces instead of the two larger pieces I was expecting, so it evened out. The mac & cheese is as good as you are going to find anywhere. The yams are thinly sliced, soft, and coated all over with some heavenly brown sugar goo. I tried to save as many as I could to eat as a "dessert" at the end of the meal. The corn bread was cake-like & sweet, although a tad on the dry side this time around, which is probably the only issue I experienced. I also had a Long Island Iced Tea from the bar & it took me back to when Mahogany's had them on special on Friday nights. The silverware has been replaced with plasticware, but the quality of the food is indisputable. Being a self-proclaimed "wing snob", I HAVE to go back soon & try the wings here. My food was left in the window while the waitress was tending to a phone call & i seen a fly get on it. i politely told her i can't eat that since a fly flew on it while you were on the phone. she asked what did i want her to do & if i wanted something else or to remake it. i stated i was fine with what i ordered, but it would just need to be remade. The guy in the kitchen remade it for me, but I just didn't like her attitude about it. The actual food wasn't really good. I got the sampler just to feel it a few things. The boneless wings that were included were tenders & came with no sauce but i got charged extra for sauce which is crazy. overall, i thought i would like this place but not so much. i'll just stick to the wings next time even tho they are overpriced imo read more
