It was a tricky life I was living going to school in the City. The burger is excellent. The fries are great. The beer tastes like beer. It's simple, but I love it. It can be a bit packed, so maybe make this a solo endeavor if you're really feeling fat. You can always find a spot at the bar. The parking, not easy for most. But for me, I'm not scared to maybe park in a spot that's not reserved for Jack Browns Customers. I may sweat it for a second, but don't let that potentially 2 block walk stray you away from a delicious burger.

I made the mistake of coming here for my birthday celebration this year, and in retrospect I am not…read moresure what I was thinking. To their credit, they do have a good draft/bottle beer list, and their burgers are indeed good. However, that's really all there is to recommend them. The parking situation here is absolutely awful and starts things off on a bad note. Their absence of a waitlist system made it awkward while our party waited to get a table and other groups waiting for a table jockeyed for position, and they took forever to clean it off even after the previous party had left. While it was nice of my compatriots to pay for my dinner, the server refused to split our checks, which made it especially obnoxious for my friends who had ordered significantly less than others since they were still on the hook for the even split. If this had been the only service issue it might have been somewhat forgivable, but the server all but disappeared for most of the evening after taking our orders, particularly when most of us ran dry before our food finally arrived. This all might be excusable in a cheaper place, but Jack Brown's is NOT cheap anymore, they are just as overpriced as every other "bougie burger" spot around without a valid justification for it. At the end of the evening, I looked really dumb for choosing this place. That is definitely not a mistake I will make twice. Overall: 2.0 stars --- Pros: - Excellent draft and bottle beer list. - Burgers are good and unique. Cons: - Recent price increases kill the value proposition of this spot, just not worth it anymore when there are SO many options around for this sort of thing. - Weird seating/waitlist situation makes for a bad first impression. - Service was incredibly low energy, and as I can attest to as a former restaurant server myself, a party of eight needs some effort to get things right. - Parking here sucks, this area desperately needs at least one parking garage to make it less of an exercise in frustration to get here in the first place.

Started woth the loaded tots, typical bar/pub food but they knocked it out of the park. Then had the Biggy BBQ Mac Burger and lost my mind. This thing was so good, all the flavors from the pulled pork. BBQ sauce, patty, Mac n cheese bites, the bacon, fuse in your mouth then explode , freaking food orgasm in your mouth! Then had the Bourbon Maple Brown Butter cake to close it out and almost died. The bourbon cake is ridiculously good and intense, you WILL taste it. Overall, they deserve more than 3 stars, whoever rated less than 3 stars is insane.

Bartender was probably the busiest staff member, and he ran his bar efficiently, and with a smile. Overall the place just had a good, friendly vibe. If I have a critique, and I do, it's that the ranch served with the wings is pretty bad. I'm a bit of a ranch snob, and I didn't dip after the first wing. The brussel sprouts, however, were fantastic. Crispy without being burnt. Not too much Parmesan or balsamic glaze. The location isn't in my usual area, but I'll likely be back for a game, a beer from the absurd selection, but maybe I'll go blue cheese with my wings next time around...

My husband was pleased with the offerings of beer and enjoyed what he had. WE had Boat Cheese Curds with Marinara as an appetizer and they were quite good. I ordered Fried Crab Claw Cakes that came with potatoes and a slaw. All were very tasty. My husband got the Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya and loved it. We took desserts for later at the hotel: My husband's brownie was good and they packed the ice cream separately, so that made him happy. I had the peach cobbler, and while good -- I tend to like my peaches a bit more "peachy" ....they use lots and lots of cinnamon and allspice. The fruit was dark brown. Good, but not what I'd hoped for.

We ordered a Diners burger, Virginia burger, and house wings. The Burgers were borderline inedible due to the huge amount of salt. If i had been dining in I would have sent it back. I would not feed that much salted meat to my dog. The burgers dampness also had literally demolished the lower bun and iceberg lettuce. So i had to disgard those sodding blobs. The Virginian burger also salty, and the crab cake, small and underwhelming. The Chicken wings tasteless and dry. On too of this i had no choice but to pay a 10% tip for "take out prepare ". If i can give zero i would. Id say "fire the chef"

RVA Draft Room is a pretty cool concept! All of their offerings are self-pour and you pay by the…read moreounce. They have a variety of glassware on hand in different sizes, so it's easy to create your own flight or to just pour a full pint. I had never visited a similar establishment in the past, so I had about 20 questions on how to operate everything. Here's the rundown: 1) Walk up to the cashier and give them your credit card. They will swipe it, give it back, and provide a card to access the taps. 2) Check the TV screen for the full digital listing of their available taps, or walk right up to the taps and read each individually. You can click on the beer name for a full description, including style, price per ounce, and abv. 3) Pick a glass, place the access card in the little slot, be sure you're on the main screen, and then pull the tap handle that corresponds to the beer. Each screen has two, with the taps beneath. Hold your glass at a 45-degree angle unless you're pouring cider, in which case it doesn't really matter. 4) Take your card, pick a seat or stand, and drink your beer. Repeat. 5) When you're ready to leave, walk back up to the cashier, choose your method of payment (I chose to just leave it on the same card...easy), select a tip, sign, and you're good to go. I tried six samples during my time there -- all about 3-4 ounces or less -- and paid $12 pre-tip. This is an excellent place to try a variety of beers. I imagine most names are recognizable...they carry stuff from Ardent and Isley, among other local and regional spots, but others aren't the easiest to find, such as Funky Buddha. RVA Draft Room is in the same open-format building as Zzaam, a tea place I forget the name of, and Sweet & Sassy BBQ. It's also centrally situated in Carytown. I didn't like the seating...I found it really uncomfortable. I think they need to invest in purse hooks and perhaps some stools with backs. I had to keep standing up to avoid hurting my back. Beyond the subpar seating, everything else was nice, and I think it's cool that they offer free tasting events as well. I'm sure I'll return at some point!

If you are looking for casual food options but also want a drink... this is probably your spot…read more There is Zzaam where you can get Korean food and then Sweet and Saucy if you want BBQ.... there is also a drink/dessert spot Kokee Tea where you can get bubble tea, or ice cream in a puffle cone. Basically you can sit at any of the spots each little restaurant gives you a number if you ordered anything and they deliver to your table. If you want beer you will need to see the attendant and get a card so you can self serve yourself beer, cider or wine. Supposedly they cap you at 64 oz but as long as you are not wasted of anything they say they can override it if you get to that point. As far as the spot goes.... it's very family friendly. Though I wish it was bigger than what it is. I also don't get why a lot of beer places are going for bar chairs and table tops instead of regular height tables and chairs. That would be my only complaint not the most comfortable. Though where the food options are there are normal tables and chairs but limited. Plus if you get there around noon half the tables are difficult to sit at due to the incredible sun that comes through... it would probably be better if they get some blinds. The draft room has games you can rent it seems like since the attendant oversees it. We brought our own since we weren't sure if they had anything to occupy our three and a half year old. As both my husband are beer, wine and cider drinkers you would think this would be heaven.... but we were both kind of disappointed with the selection. We drink just about all beer, wine and cider but we felt like the selection kind of lacked. Just to give you an idea of our favorite RVA breweries/cideries.... Strangeways, Hardywood, The Answer, Busky are probably our top places. I feel like if you are expecting something like any of the four I mentioned you may come out pretty disappointed. Though because of the food options and how it's casual, both my husband and I said we would be back since it's pretty family friendly. It's nice that it's not just one food truck option like most breweries or no options for food. So if you are hungry and are wanting to do some tastings definitely check it out. On another note... parking is kind of a pain since it's in Carytown... definitely stinks in the winter. My bet is when it gets nicer, traffic will really pick up since it looks like they have some nice outdoor seating!
