Went in for the 2nd time. First time they said they were out of BBQ pork which is what I wanted so I left. Went back today and ordered a pound of bbq pork priced at $10.99/lb on the menu online as well as on the wall inside. My total came out to $16.88 we I thought was odd, but I didn't complain. Prices have gone up due to inflation so I thought maybe they just hadn't updated it. But 5$ increase? 17 bucks for a pound of bbq pork is pretty steep. I got down the road and opened the container only to find they had given me the wrong pork. As far as first impressions go, let's just say I wasn't blown away. I've heard it's not the friendliest place for non Asian customers but I don't want to rest on that after only 1 visit. I might check them out again simply to satisfy my curiosity. I got 2lbs of bbq pork and rice for $20 at Dac Hung on bellaire and Boone. I might just stick to that. read more

We just moved to Houston and have lived in San Francisco and NYC before so my standards for Cantonese food are high. This place does not disappoint. The roast duck has crispy skin and not too much fat. It's just the right temperature and seasoning, which I prefer not too much. Then the au jus adds just right amount of flavor. Then when you bite into it, the juice which has gelatinized makes the duck meat moist. That doesn't come by often. We also got chicken salted fish tofu pot, chicken broth, salt and pepper pork chop, soy sauce noodles, water spinach with fermented tofu sauce, all on point, exactly how they are supposed to be cooked. Food here is not too salty; too many Chinese restaurants over salt their food. Overall it's one of the best Cantonese foods we have had in the US. Highly recommend! read more

Wing Kee is a Chinese restaurant serving Cantonese food located in the same plaza as Egg Custard King. Overall the place feels clean and new, definitely a rare find in Chinatown. Food here is definitely tasty, and I love that that it is not nearly as oily as other Houston joints serving the same type of food. Lunch specials come at an amazing price of $5.50 while other dishes run from $6.75-$12.99 depending on what you order. I don't think I saw anything above $15 here, but I could be wrong as their menu was several pages long. Ordered the braised string beans (乾扁四季豆), orange pork chops (橙汁排骨), and Portuguese style baked chicken over rice (焗葡式雞飯). I enjoyed the flavor of all the dishes, with the Portuguese style baked Chicken rice being my favorite. However, my only complaint is that the meat quality is on the low end. While the orange sauce for the pork chops was delicious, the pork chop itself was rather mediocre, and it tasted like I was eating mostly fat versus actual meat. Even the ground meat used in the braised string beans didn't taste all that. Nevertheless, they were both lunch menu item, so for the price, can't really complain since you do get what you pay for. They also serve complimentary hot and sour soup at the start of your meal. Service is friendly, another rarity in Chinatown. I would definitely return to try some of their other dishes (and reorder the Portuguese baked Chicken rice again), but may only stick to veggies/carbs/tofu for lunch item menus. read more

I was actually surprised how amazing the food was here. My grandma heard about this place through a friend and asked my cousin and I to take her. Her usual spot for Asian food is FuFu located in the plaza on Corporate and Bellaire, so we were surprised she wanted someplace different. We went for early dinner and were the only customers in the restaurant. Very clean and calm atmosphere. We didn't think the location was popular, but we were wrong. Around 6:30pm that day, there was a constant stream of customers flooding in. Like I said, the food was amazing. I wish I found out about this location sooner since it was closer to grandma's house and the streets around it aren't as busy as Bellaire. The sweet and sour fish was one of the best dishes we ordered. I like congee - always my go to order in any Asian place - and it was no disappointment. We also had vegetables (bok choy), noodles, and lemon chicken. All were delicious. As a summary- yes, I like this place better than FuFu. It is very clean. The ambient atmosphere gives you time to enjoy the meal instead of rushing it - you aren't rushed that there are other customers wanting your seat. The food is on point- one of the best Cantonese food I've had. Location - parking and restaurant were easy to find and roads weren't as busy compared to other restaurants in the International District. Do I recommend this location? Yes! Go there! Great Cantonese-style dishes that are suitable for a large group. We found that our "typical" favorite dishes like beef flat noodle and salt/pepper fish were made VERY well here. I also really loved the shrimp and eggs dish. Lots of flavor. Not too salty. Portions were fair and plentiful. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall with parking easily available. On a Saturday night, it wasn't too crowded. They also have TVs for sports viewing. Service was great with the staff being very knowledgeable and helpful. A group of 7 friends ate generously (and sharing all dishes) and it came out to be around $13/person before gratuity. read more

I normally don't leave reviews, but I have to for Wing Kee. Food in Wing Kee was absolutely delicious! We ordered roast pork, a watercress soup, seafood pot and pan fried noodles. Roast pork was crispy, salty and had a great balance between fat and meat. The soup tasted like my grandma's (originally from Hong Kong). Seafood pot and noodles were fantastic as well. The owner was a very polite and nice lady. We have small children and spilled soup on the floor. The waitress was very nice about it. Their service was great! This is an amazing authentic Cantonese restaurant. I've never been here before, but my parents introduced me to the restaurant saying "every Cantonese person in Houston knows/should know about this place". They have incredibly cheap prices for the fantastic quality of food. They really specialize in their Cantonese BBQ aka the roast duck/pork "appetizers" etc. I thought it was honestly some of the best I've ever had. The other dishes were also delicious (beef & brocolli, fish filets). Everything was well balanced in flavor without being too salty or oily. This is definitely a hole in the wall place that I'll be going to way more often, especially because it's just a tiny bit further away from all the main traffic of Chinatown, so parking is easy and not such a horrific ordeal. read more

This small Cantonese shack off the main drag of Chinatown / Vietnamese town has the best roast pork in Houston. Our party of six had lunch there yesterday and we couldn't stop talking about the roast pork. The skin was crispy and the meat was melt in the mouth. We also had steamed salt chicken, chicken flat rice noodles, beef fried noodles, pork bellies with preserved veggies, and walnuts and shrimps in mayo sauce. Another out standing dish was the mayo shrimps. Basically everything tasted great and very reasonable priced. Table service was attentive and friendly. I'm giving one star for the service and how they treat you. I was in line to order BBQ and wanted to order a couple of the meats. Didn't finish and the lady behind the counter had a conversation with an older Asian lady behind me and apparently told me that the lady behind me already ordered the duck, when I asked for the duck hanging there. Just to let people know that I can understand what the ladies were saying and she did not pre order the duck. I just kept my order and paid. This is my last trip there. All of my favorite dishes weren't on it like salt and pepper shrimp, princess chicken, etc. It's $5.95 each and the lunch menu is more Americanized. There isn't complimentary soup as well. When we found out that Wing Kee had reopened after 10 years, my family rejoiced. The house specials are so great and an amazing deal at $6.25. My family used to go to the previous location for weekly Friday dinners, so I literally grew up on the food here. Baked pork chop with noodles was my go-to order and after visiting the reopened location, I can safely say it tastes just like I remember. The tomato sauce is a perfect balance of tangy and sweet - Cantonese "spaghetti" sauces tend to be slightly sweeter than Western ones. The clay pots are a really good deal as well. I am ashamed to admit I still haven't been to Hong Kong, but my parents (from Hong Kong) swear the food here transports them home. The owner is incredibly nice and it was obvious from just watching him how happy he is to be at home again in a restaurant. He even remembered our family even though we hadn't seen him in years! The food here isn't gourmet by any means, but it is definitely ideal Cantonese comfort food. One hit of that orange sauce, and I feel the nostalgia rushing over me along with memories of running around the old Wing Kee as a kid. read more

By he request of my mother on her birthday we went and have dinner in this restaurant, I will promise you it will be our last trip. Let's start with the good, there is none. Maybe just maybe the Roasted pork The bad. There were plenty of bad so eat at your own risk. To start we order the normal comfort foods group, like BBQ duck and Pork. The duck was a bit dry and no flavor. The drunken chicken we ordered came out in two shades of color and when ask why is that, the waitress just said that is the way it supposed to be. Let me remind you that we are Hong Kong born and raised Asians. So we know what the food supposed to look and tastes like. Didn't want to make a scene and continue with other dishes, the curry beef came out like a soup, instead of a touch of gravy, the beef seem like it has been over marinated with baking soda and leave a bad after taste. The wonton is dry and with out taste, as it seem to be way way over cooked and nothing like other Chinese restaurant in Houston China Town. Enough of the bad food, now come the best or the worst of the bunch, we order the transitional Hong Kong milk tea. Wow. That is the worst of them all and they have the gulls to charge $2.50 ea no refill. All they did was heat up some tea ( the same tea they use for iced tea) and put some kind of milk in it and called it the day. I have seen worst of the imitation of Hong Kong milk tea. But this is the worst, even my American son in law said what the H^*% was that. They must really think that we don't know what we are ordering and eating since we have a gr go among us. So much for the high and low of the restaurant. Again eat at your own risk. We brought everything that we didn't eat at the table which is a rare case, but we just want to make sure that the bad stuff get thrown away properly. This is the first time hopefully the last time I would yelp about a bad restaurant as such. Hope that the owner of this establishment will be able to see this type of yelp and change their way of doing business. Otherwise the restaurant won't survive in the Houston China Town food scene. Oh, one more thing. They charge for 18% tips with no service and we only had 6 people and the other Chinese restaurant in China town never charge like that. Bigger party I can understand. But with 6?
