This is not a general store in the sense of, "there's a common product I need! Let me pop in!" This…read moreis a finely curated store with unique, I suspect regionally made, items perfect for presents and treating yourself. That one of a kind piece none of your friends have and will give a room extra pop? It's here. Woodford's doesn't have a physically large foot print, and is located next to the 109 Cheese Shop. There are parking spots on two sides of the building. As mentioned, there are housewares with ceramic glasses and plates, candle stick holders, designed paper, etc. There are also shelf stable snacks (matzo chips!), and a fridge with cheese, milk, and vegetables. (The Four Fat Fowl cheese is AMAZING) They also keep a cooler with a limited stock of frozen food, including lasagna, and have fresh vegetables on hand during the week. The mushroom display seems pretty constant though.

Originally from Kentucky, Terry is now a full time resident of Connecticut after spending three decades in New York. The tastefully curated collection of items and Terry's welcoming and friendly nature make a visit to the tiny general store a pleasant experience. Woodford's General Store is the perfect destination for those looking to pick up some newfound culinary treats and a house gift when visiting friends and family in the vicinity of Kent. I exited the store with a goldenrod wool throw from Evangeline, a Maine-based textile company, and a pear-cardamom pie from Kent's High 5 Pies in hand. This small business is the kind I am happy to find as it enhances and supports the community.

I needed baby wipes (I was surprised they sold Honest brand baby wipes), but knowing the toilet paper and disinfectant shortage, I wasn't very pleased that they weren't prepared for my visit (I was looking for disinfectant spray too). I had to vouch for smoother napkins for toilet paper, but the fact that I'll have to spend tons more shopping on Amazon for disinfectant spray really isn't thrilling me! I paid without a hassle, got my receipt and headed out to my car. I heard something from one of the other register clerks about how they were going to close early (or something nearby was closing early, I couldn't really tell because she rattled it off so fast, talking to another customer they apparently knew). I got lost in the small parking lot with trying to find my car but found it a few moments later. It's not in the greatest location - besides just off the Taconic by about 3-4 miles. It's got Poughkeepsie and Fishkill to deal with nearby (20-minute driving distance to Poughkeepsie given US Route 55 traffic and roundabouts), but it's too small for me (I guess it works for some people). I got a few things, but not much besides mentioned above. Maybe in better times (when the shelves are stocked, I might decide to try again and hope for better conditions.

Also drives me crazy when theres 2-3 of them standing around doing nothing but talking and laughing while theres one line open and 4 people standing in line waiting. They make things extremely awkward and can be nasty. The Deli is absolutely horrible. There are a few that arent bad but theres 2-3 younger girls and an older women who give looks as if you're not supposed to go to the deli to ask for some turkey. Its actually horrible and I've avoided even going to the deli depending on who I see there. I've gone over to the deli with plenty of time before they close and the girl said "ok i can help but I was just about to clean up" while proceeding to huff and puff. I said nevermind and walked away. Pathetic

I'm not sure how to go about updating the Yelp listing, but the Sherman IGA has been The Daily…read moreMarket since last summer (2025), when Rich and Cassie Parente purchased it from Mike Luzi, the wonderful* former owner. (*Once, when we realized we'd forgotten a leash for the pup and searched for one at the IGA to no avail, Mike asked around, and one of his employees gave us an extra leash he had in his car!) As much as we liked Mike's IGA -- it had a fantastic butcher's counter and great sandwiches -- The Daily Market is... elevated. There are locally made artisinal versions of products on the shelves, alongside the more conventional. The produce is fresh. There's wagyu beef in the butcher section. There's still a great butcher's counter where you can talk to a butcher through the window and ask for exactly what you want. And there's a ridiculously extensive, chichi sandwich counter with lots more than sandwiches (https://www.thedailymarketct.com/online-ordering/the-daily-market/menu). AND a gelato counter! The chicken piccata we picked up recently was excellent and tasted as though it could've been sourced from Limoncello next door. Prices for conventional items are still a bit higher than the are at large grocery chains in neighboring New Milford and New Fairfield. But if you need something really special (Wagyu beef, duck fat, artisinal mustard) or just need a quick snack or meal after a day at Sherman Town Beach (or after a very long drive back from a ski race), The Daily Market is your place.

For over 70 decades I've enjoyed the tasty sausage - until this year, 2024. It was so apparent when I fried the sausage something had changed. In the past there was a light layer of grease from the sausage fat. This year there was no grease, only water. The pan filled with 1/3" of water that had to be drained to properly fry the sausage. The taste was even worse! Gone were the spices that, in the past, contributed to the delicious taste. The sausage is now very bland and tasteless. My husband even commented the sausage tasted like cardboard with no flavor at all. The cooked sausage and another package in the refrigerator went in the trash. Sad to say but after over 7 decades, good bye Marona's. There will be no more annual treks to buy what used to be the best breakfast sausage you could find. So sad.
