After looking at different caterers, we chose Pizza Replicator to cater the party of 85. We were having trouble working with the venue to allow the caterer to find a place to cook the pizzas. Max contacted the venue and worked out all the details. On the day of the event, he and his staff arrived promptly and started with the appetizers which were outstanding. Once he transitioned to pizza, the pizzas were continuously replaced until everyone had eaten. Everyone raved about the food. We couldn't be happier about hiring Max and his team and couldn't recommend him enough.

In New York, slices are for folding and eating while on the go, because... well... I guess that's what capitalism does to you. Pizza Replicator is replicating none of these pizzas. Nope. It's just a Star Trek TNG inspired pizza concept where Max Sussman gets to have a little bit of fun with seasonal ingredients, dough, and some portable pizza ovens. Personally, I love to support pizza innovation. Max's pizza is about as good as it can be considering it's cooked up in the back of a coffee shop on any given Sunday. More than anything, I want Max to get a permanent home here in A2 with a legit Neapolitan oven where he can really get some better color on the bottoms of those pies. I've had a few of these so far. Italian sausage with pepperoncini, provolone, and broccoli rabe. Brussels and guanciale with aged gouda, fresh mozzarella, and garlic. Soujouk and Za'atar with onion and green zhug. Asparagus and gruyere with meyer lemon, caramelized onion, and pine nuts. Spanish Chorizo, manchego, roasted peppers. My favorite one to date was the meyer lemon. Dang, that was deliciously unexpected! But those crispy nuggets of guanciale were dynamite too! Ultimately, these are designed to be take out pies, and I'm just not a take out pizza kinda guy. Because I believe pizza is best when it's fresh hot now, I grab my pie, b-line to my parked car, and eat the pizza in the driver's seat like a savage beast. Even when I have shown up early for my scheduled pizza pick up, I have had little luck in getting super hot pies with crisp edges and well colored bottoms. Recently I learned that one can request the pizza "well done" and I am looking forward to giving that a try. But I love the culinary creativity and I am happy to keep trying Max's new pies when my Sunday schedule lines up with available pizza slots. One has to keep an eye on the Pizza Replicator Instagram page and move quickly, because these things sell out. I have gotten over my FOMO, and am happy to simply sample these pizzas when the stars align. Which, you know, is why I'm comfortable to share this with the Yelp Community. Max's efforts are hardly a secret as they were just recently covered in the food press. But yet there is no listing on Yelp?

I decided to try a frame pop-up because I saw what looked like a pretty damn good menu for a "May…read morethe 4th be with you" Star Wars event. It was a cool event under the big tent behind framebar, which they transformed into the "Galactic Traveler Lounge"... there was even a hot Sith waitress in there too ; ) The food from the guest chef was delicious. The drinks were really really good and I think the bartendress is the resident for most of frames events. This event cost me many galactic credits, about $120 including tip in US dollars for just myself for a 5 course meal and two drinks. Is that expensive? Hell yes. Do I find myself saying that in most reviews? Yes I do. Is this probably a new normal in eating out now? Yes it probably is. Bottom line, check frames website for a menu and themed night you think will be cool and go for it. It's a special occasion, once in a blue moon thing to do and an enjoyable thing to do with friends or a date.

Tonight was my first time at Frame! A friend and I went for the Val's Pizza pop-up. Originally we…read morewere scheduled to go for Khana last week, but due to the weather, we emailed Frame and asked if we could go today instead. First off: definitely book a reservation here, I didn't see too many walk-ins but I think they did have one or two open tables. Depending on what event/pop-up you attend, your price may vary, but ours was $25 per person, which was deducted from our bill at the end of the night, and a $3 processing fee. We started off with drinks - I had the Basil Vodka Collins and my friend got the Fig Vespa. We actually ended up switching drinks because hers was much sweeter than mine, and I prefer sweet drinks. We had seen photos of focaccia on Val's IG page but unfortunately they didn't offer that; they did have breadsticks, so we got that, but I was not super impressed with them. HOWEVER. This gets its own line ... the breadsticks came with TOMATO BUTTER, and I'm not even sure what was in it, but it was freaking delicious. And this comes from someone who hates tomato soup/cold tomato products. For pizzas, we split a White Pie, with prosciutto added, and the VP special. I thought the VP special was fine but not fantastic ... it had hot honey on it and I couldn't really taste it, which was disappointing, because honey on pizza is usually very good. The White Pie, though, was great, and I highly recommend adding the prosciutto. We finished with the handmade chocolate cannoli which was surprising - both in texture and flavor - and very, very good. The menu says it has chocolate ricotta, marscapone, lemon, and cinnamon sugar, and its shell was very delicate and more like a churro than any cannoli I've had before, although my friend says cannolis are supposed to have more delicate shells. Overall, everything was very good, although it was a bit of a pricey night - after the $25 deposit we each paid, our bills were $20 each, so after tip it ended up being about $29 (+ the $25), for a total of $54 each. However, that was with breadsticks, dessert, two pizzas, and one alcoholic drink each, so I guess it's not too terrible. Some general Frame tips, since as Tiffany (other Yelper) pointed out, the menus change weekly/monthly: 1) Frame doesn't have its own parking lot - you can park either on the street to the right of it, OR you can park in the Mabel Grey parking lot next door (that's what we did, at least - not sure if MG allows it, technically!). 2) Check the website for all of the upcoming pop-ups, as they are all pretty different. 3) They do cooking classes there too, and I was wondering where they were holding them - until I was waiting in line for the bathroom, and someone left, opened a door which looked like a painting, and I saw one was being conducted in that room! Completely different vibe than in the regular Frame part where we were sitting (low/romantic lighting in ours, fluorescent lighting in theirs, haha), so that was pretty interesting. Overall, very nice experience at Frame, and I hope to return for either a cooking class or another pop-up!

The "Detroit street food" carryout counter is located inside of a gas station on Clark & Vernor in Southwest Detroit. There is signage outside, on the Clark Street side of the building. Inside the gas station, there is a sign for another food business. I thought that I was at the wrong location, but went outside and called the phone number listed on Instagram. The gentleman that answered the number, which turned out to be the gas station phone number, assured me that I was at the right place. I went back in, snapped few pics, and ordered. I wanted to try something exciting, but I wasn't sure what to get. I settled on a shrimp tempura taco and crunchy crab legs. My order totaled just shy of $30. The fried crab legs reminded me of mozzarella sticks. I only took a few bites. The snack seemed to be imitation krab. It came with seasoned fries and three different dipping sauces. It's a really kool snack item, but I don't think I'd order it again. The taco was more to my liking. It's essentially a deconstructed sushi roll. The tempura shrimp, sauces and cucumber sit on a bed of sushi rice on top of a fried wonton wrapper. It looked super cool and was very tasty. The dish was topped with crunchies. The menu is small and kitschy with fusion-style snacks. My carryout bag was packed with care and included a few Andes chocolate mints. I'll support the owner again trying other items and will share it with others.

Both were delicious and hearty, served with sweet plantains, rice and mixed vegetables. The red palm oil was so flavorful and surprisingly light. My favorite was the grilled shrimp appetizer. Six large and juicy skewered shrimp, seasoned perfectly. On the side, a bit of the cucumber salad. This was perfect on a hot summer day. We also ordered sides of kidney beans and collard greens. Both of these deserve an ovation and could stand alone as stars on a vegetarian/low meat plate. The country rice is so good, perfect for the gravy formed from the oil in stews. We washed it all down with expertly crafted fresh fruit cocktails - the Nimba Night and Liberian Girl in particular were fantastic! I'm returning soon to soak in the beauty of this artfully blessed space, and to nibble on even more of the exotic tastes. Great job Little Liberia!

I have been following Little Liberia launch progress and was excited to be able to experience those west African flavors again. Liberian cuisine has been near impossible to get in the Detroit area since the early 80's. I haven't had any in a while. Fate however delayed me. I don't own a car and the restaurant is 25 miles away, Outside all the delivery apps ranges. So I couldn't get the food for months. Until today. Little Liberia is in a new hip part of Detroit. The neighborhood is walkable and has bikeways. New residential developments and inevitable gentrification are afoot. This restaurant deserves to be either in your regular rotation or a priority visit for a change of pace. It is well decorated and modern. It has a small bar and banquet space plus outdoor summer seating. The food was everything I remembered. The cassava leaf were so reminiscent of my year at LU, I would have been choked up but that would have slowed the pleasure that each forkful of the two entrees and one side I ordered delivered. I would have ordered more but they weren't serving a couple of my all time favorites check rice and potato greens today. I'll definitely be back to get those. Went on a Friday after the lunch rush. I walked in was greeted and seated in the lightly populated dining room by Tia. I put my experience in her hands and was delighted with the result. Everything EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS.
