    Cassava Leaves

We ate lunch here the day after their Grand Opening and it was delicious! We started with the Peper Kala which we balls of fried dough with a very tasty and not too spicy dipping sauce. The mocktails that we ordered were also really good. All of our main dishes came with rice, fried plantains, and vegetables. We had the cassava leaves, ground nut stew, and the goat shank. They all had very different flavors but they were all so good. Our server was very nice and helpful and our food arrived very quickly. The restaurant is in a new building and the interior is very nicely decorated with interesting art.

The food was so delicious! I split the lamb shanks with my grandma. It came with Jellof rice and veggies. We should of gotten a side order of the jello rice because it was too good and not enough to share. The service was great. The decor is nice and it's comfortable in here.

First of all, this review is for the restaurant, not the pop-up. I have been waiting patiently for the brick and mortar location -- four blocks from my house -- ever since it was announced. While they are still very much in their soft opening phase, the restaurant's food, ambience and service all show much promise! They are still working out some growing pains. Like one of the dishes -- the Cassava leaves -- was supposed to include chicken, but instead had beef in it. The kind and attentive wait person -- the chef's sister -- was apologetic and brought my friend one of the chicken dishes instead. We enjoyed our drinks -- the Nimba Night and Lofa Sunshine -- very much. Food was a bit slow to come out -- the hostess came by and apologized for the wait -- and we got everything at once instead of appetizers first, but no big deal. I had high hopes for the Pepper Kala -- fried dough balls served with a sassy pepper sauce -- and it did not disappoint, it was very tasty. The dough was light with a slightly sweet taste and the sauce complimented it very well. I was hoping to order the fish entree but it's only available on Saturday, so I got the shrimp appetizer instead. It can be ordered either with garlic herb seasoning or a rich peanut marinade. I ordered the latter and was brought the former, but no big deal, it was still tasty. It comes with a few plantains but I'm glad I also ordered an appetizer portion of the plantains because they were so tasty. I'm definitely going to be craving them. The Coffee Delight dessert was indeed delightful. It was very rich, we were glad we split it since we were both pretty full. Portions are generous -- even the appetizers were plentiful -- so the prices are in line with the amount of food you get. We will definitely be back! Welcome to the East English Village neighborhood Chef Ameneh and family!

Food was delicious and service was impeccable. We had the fish, plantains and cucumber salad.

Location: This restaurant is located in the lower level of a building called The Ribbon. Parking is available on the street or in a lot beside the building (across Kensington, not adjacent). The space as bright and spacious. Definitely good for parties of all sizes. It's casual enough for a quick bite, but also cute enough for a date night. We had a reservation and the hostess promptly seated us. Our waitress took our order promptly and answered all of our questions. THE FOOD. Omg. We ordered the Groundnut Stew and the Roasted Goat Shank and both were incredibly yummy. The stew was served with white rice that was divine with the sauce. The Goat shank was paired with a flavorful rice ( herby with onions). Both came with perfectly fried ripe plantains. We will definitely be back!

The food was not great. They used pre boiled rice and it was too salty. The portions were also not so big.

I have consistently come here to get food throughout the years and it has been so rewarding to continue to see Yum Village be such a pillar in the city and in the food industry! The service here is incredible, you don't bus anything yourself. I also noticed that the staff that day was all women, from everyone front of house to the chefs in the back as well preparing the food, which was extra fun! They are so attentive to us and even when there was a snaffoo with on of my party's orders. They paid with cash and I think perhaps that messed up the tracking of the order through the system? I'm not entirely sure. As for the food, Yum Village has maintained some of the same dishes throughout the years, while also adding and/or rotating a ton of other dishes through the menu. I can definitely confirm that the garlic parm jerk chicken remains my favorite and that the spice level, while still plentiful and intense, has eased up a bit in recent years. Either that or that I have become more spice heat-tolerant! Either way, the portions also remain huge, so there was a ton of food to take home! I love the truffle collard greens, the deeply unique and flavorful corncakes, and also the star of the show this go around was the deliciously complex fried cheesy fufu! It oozes so much flavor and is the perfect addition to any meal and very shareable as well! Keep up the great work, Yum Village!!

We ordered on the tablet they have at the front counter and sat down to wait for the food to be delivered to our table. They did have happy hour going, but I don't recommend it. The drinks weren't good honestly. Not sure what was being mixed but the liquor didn't taste right. We both had the Classic Village Meal (Jerk Chicken, jollof rice, and plantains). It was good food. I loved how the jollof rice and plantains were well prepared and hot. The jerk chicken wasn't served as hot as the rice and plantains so I think they had a timing issue in the back, so that was disappointing. There is a lot of food, so we were able to take home half and have it for breakfast the next morning. We also tried to the jerk taco and it was good and hot, but awkward to eat because there so much on top and it was just falling off as I was trying to pick it up and take a bite.

I've been to the food truck 3 or so times and have gotten fufu, egusi soup with goat, puff puff,…read moreand iced Zobo. The fufu was a good consistency wrapped in cling wrap so it doesn't stick to the packaging and can be eaten fully. The egusi is rich and flavorful; I definitely wish there was more of a spice to it but I have only ever had egusi from here so I don't know if culturally, it is meant to have more spice than that. Regardless, it's very tasty and I usually get a decent amount of goat in there. The puff puff is always delightfully soft and the perfect amount of sweetness to end my meal. The Zobo tea is very much not for me, the cinnamon along with ginger and hibiscus is something my tongue didn't like, but that's just a taste preference thing, I believe it was made well. As far as service, the lady who takes my order is always very kind and helpful. I appreciate her a lot. Her patience, especially when I first ordered, was greatly appreciated. This may be dramatic, but I found out later in life that I'm Nigerian and didn't get to enjoy my culture so she helped me pick the right things and it was a great encouragement to me. The chef is kind as well but we haven't had many interactions. As far as ambiance, I always get it next to the A2 farmers market which I love a lot because I get to walk around! Overall, I really love fork in Nigeria. My only cons are that it's a little expensive (one meal usually costs me $25-$30 for one person) and the wait can occasionally be a little longer but I don't mind it. Also, one time I got there right when they said they were going to open and they were an hour late. Other than that I've had amazing experiences here and can't wait to have more.

The rice was delicious and there was so much of it. The okra was great too. I also tried a couple bites of the goat fufu, which was so good too. It was falling off the bone.
