While not bad, it was my least favorite place of the day and the only one I can't give five stars to. Let's go over the pros and cons and see where this lands (after the Carolina Dog and Twisted Fries that made up my order here). So for the pros, that Carolina Dog was bangin' out the frame good! If that Carolina Hot Dog was the only thing I was grading this place on, then this would be a guaranteed 5-star. That golden mustard and pulled pork on top made this an awesome dog from start to finish, served very warm like a hug from the Carolinas. I do also like that the menus display how much each thing costs and what is on each of the things one can order. It's quite neat there. Prices are also reasonable here which is another plus. For the cons, I had to wait to even be able to order. There was a longer line, but it was also impossible to know if I was the next person in line or if there was someone else who needed to order their food that got there before I did. Also, the employee working there didn't recognize I was customer right away. I mean, come on. I did not have this happen with the other two spots in the Parkville Market I was at, and all of it was in the same visit to Parkville Market in the middle of lunch hour. So the fry itself was crunchy, but because of all the toppings, I'd realized too late that the fries were completely drowned out, so I didn't really get to taste the potato. I didn't mind the wait here either since I was warned it would be a wait. Plus, it gave me a chance to upload photos to Yelp and charge my phone since my battery was low. Ted's doesn't fry their burgers in a pan or grill them on a grill. Nope - they steam them in a steel cabinet and serve them with a scoop of melted cheese and your choice of free toppings, like ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce tomato, chopped onions, pickles or even bacon. Their food truck is named "Steam Machine" and it was at Cheshire Craft Brewing today. In fact, it's there every Friday night and weekends. It can also be found at Hartford area attractions like Bushnell Park, the Xfinity Theatre, and at Pratt & Whitney Stadium for UConn Huskies football games. The greeting we received when we walked in; even though it was 30 minutes before closing, was less than enthusiastic to see us... it was clear right off the bat that everybody behind the counter was far more concerned about having their key in the front door at 7:59 then they were delivering great food and service. The grinder was OK. The fried chicken was pliable, but a couple of the pieces we ordered were dried out and shriveled up from sitting too long. The slices of pizza that we ordered, the guy didn't even bother, warming them up. Just pulled them out of the pizza slice case and threw them into a box... either that or if he did attempt to warm them up, they must've already turned the ovens off, and they threw it into a cold oven. A word of advice for the management of this restaurant, if you want to be out the door by 8 PM, close your restaurant at 7 PM so nobody comes in and bothers you all while you're trying to clean. My high-school girlfriend lived directly across the street from the original location and her mother worked there for years. We used to go over there and just hang out with the employees and the original owners, Tony and Helena or we'd stop in for a grinder or a pizza. Over all that time I think I've probably eaten just about everything on the menu. Everything was always delicious and dishes like their lasagna were almost legendary. The inside was what you'd expect for a small restaurant, booths and tables with a menu board on the wall behind the counter and a steady flow of orders going out the door. When they moved down the street there was a bit more attention to the restaurant area, which was nice. Long after high school I stopped in for years, always chatting with Tony and Helena and their son Michael who took over when they retired. Always the same great food with the same great service, until today. For lunch I was after one of my go-to meals there, a gyro sandwich and a side of eggplant fries so I went online and placed my order through slice. Nothing seemed much different from the last time I had ordered so I didn't think anything of it. When I got to the restaurant to pick it up something seemed off. The parking lot was mostly empty and walking up to the door the restaurant seemed a little dark inside. I'd normally expect to see Michael working in the kitchen and say hello but it seemed like they were very slow and there were only a few employees there. I picked up my order without any issue and noticed the packaging seemed different but I didn't think anything of it. When I got it home it was NOTHING like what I had eaten dozens of times before. The gyro was in a flattened pita that was toasted to the point of being crunchy, the strips of meat were very thin, it was overloaded with too much tzatziki (which was runny), very little tomato and these long strips of yellow or white onions (gyros should have diced red onion, not sliced white/yellow). The eggplant fries were equally disappointing, 90% of it was cut in little tiny pieces that were impossible to dip in the marinara, which was the only good thing about this meal. I wondered what had happened until I did a little research only to learn that Michael had sold Queen Pizza last September. While he may have given them the recipes I think they are failing on the execution. Absolutely will not go back for that meal there ever again. I may stop back to try the lasagna but I'm in no rush to at this point. They should have updated the website to indicate that it was under new ownership and I'm not sure they put the same care and attention into the food and Tony, Helena and Michael did. End of an era.
