I did notice a couple of things, and I don't know if this is a trend or a 1-off. Stopped into Winking Lizard on Monday night with some friends to check out their Monday Wing Night. Bone-in wings are $0.90 each and boneless are $0.85, ordered in increments of five, which is a nice setup if you want to mix flavors. I went with 5 Bourbon Barrel wings and 5 Spicy Garlic, both bone-in. The Bourbon Barrel wings leaned sweet with a light bourbon note. Flavor was decent, but they were pretty light on sauce and didn't have much crisp for being fried -- honestly, they almost tasted baked. The wings also weren't very tender, and I had to work a bit to get the meat off the bone. And yes, I know some people would say "just get boneless," but I'm a bone-in guy -- the bone adds flavor, and boneless wings are usually more breading than chicken anyway. The Spicy Garlic had a nice kick and solid flavor, but unfortunately had the same texture issues as the Bourbon Barrel wings -- not crispy and not very tender. I also ordered blue cheese and celery. It was fine, but nothing special. The blue cheese flavor was pretty muted and didn't have that bold, tangy punch I usually look for. On the plus side, the steak fries were cooked correctly and did their job. One highlight was their Mardi Gras menu. We tried the beignets with bourbon maple glaze, and those were a pleasant surprise. They came out piping hot, dusted with powdered sugar, and while they're not a traditional beignet, the flavor was really good and easily the most memorable part of the meal. So was the experience great? I'd say it was good. The food was fine, serviceable, but not especially memorable. Would I come back? Probably -- just maybe not for the wings next time. But, let me add. The only thing that disappointed me is that neither of our burgers tasted like they were seasoned. Even without the meat having enough seasoning for our liking the toppings added enough flavor to make our burgers enjoyable. My husband got the mango tango chicken sandwich and said it was 5 stars. What a surprise! I've avoided eating here because my past experience with this franchise in other locations have been underwhelming. But this time, this location was very good. Ordered the smashburger quesadilla. This Mexican version did not disappoint & included traditional fillings. Would order without the jalapeños. Had enough food leftovers. The steak salad was huge. I got the 9-inch (small). It was hot and tasted ok. It was lacking in flavor. It was good but not great. The service was great. Our server Jordan was super friendly and fast. The lady at the front was super outgoing too. We were seated in a booth on the bar side. The seats were plain wood without cushions, it was hard and uncomfortable. Everyone in my group of 4 complained how uncomfortable the seat was and we had to sit on our coats to add some cushion. If we ever go back we won't sit there again. read more

Well had an experience tonight! Had a Very rude interaction with the Manager. He argued with me when I questioned charges. And he kept doubling down on his point. He even told me it was the same policy as BW3's has...well just looked it up online and he is also wrong about that. I've been coming here on the way home from work every week or two. The food is good and they're generous with the portions, and I like to sit at the bar to get better service. The last three visits not so great. The bartender with the fishing hat doesn't seem to like his job. Tonight there were five other people at the bar, so not busy. He took 7-8 minutes to take my order then disappeared. My food came out 15 minutes later (burger and fries). It was good as usual, but he was talking to a server while I was trying to get his attention. The other bartender was great and helped me out. Maybe he didn't like me? Have been here several times. I am not a wing person typically but their Spicy Sesame ones are delish. You can taste the garlic and honey and soy or teriyaki but nothing is too overpowering. I like spicy but this is more on the mild side . I wanted onion rings but they hadn't had any for months. Supply chain issue with onion rings in a lot of places so not their fault. First time to this location and we'll definitely be back. Since it's a "tavern" we we're expecting them to have a small menu with bar food but we were pleasantly surprised with their expansive menu. It's a big menu and has something for everyone. They have a popcorn machine near the front where you can help yourself to free popcorn while you wait for your meal. That was a nice touch and kept the kids busy. I ordered the White Garlic Chicken pizza and it did not disappoint. By the time we were done it was very busy and the restaurant had become pretty noisy. I attended a lunch meeting with my peers. They'd told me about the variety of menu options, specials and specifically the Lent menu because I am a pescatarian. I ordered breaded shrimp and I couldn't pass up ordering the Crab Cakes. What a disappointment!! The Crab Cakes were way too salty for me to eat. My lips were tingling from the salty taste. I asked to server if I could get them without salt but that wasn't an option. They tried to explain the salt away so asked someone else to taste them and she co-signed my original statement "oh....these r really salty ". She was going to get an order to take home to her husband but quickly cancelled and ordered something else. Of the 3 Crab Cakes 2 1/2 remained on the table. Guess how many I paid for? Yep...the full order of Crab Cakes that for me weren't edible. I've had Crab Cakes in Seattle, San Diego, DC, San Antonio, Las Vegas, and here in Ohio and saltiness has never been a problem. We come to this place pretty often since their boneless wings are some of the best in town and always consistent. If you come on Monday you will have the opportunity to snag 50 cent boneless wings and $5.50 small cheese pizzas. Also, 4-6pm will give you $1 off all 22oz beers! The family tried the top 4 hot wings and boy o boy they were hot. The Thai was my favorite out of the four but the other three were spicy bbq, spicy garlic, and Cajun. All of them were really good and they come out nice and crispy with a good amount of sauce.
