Guess what they wanted as soon as they touched down? You got it! Sorrento's Italian Market here in Culver City! Now supposedly over the weekend they're going to make up for their surprise and lack of common courtesy by taking me to some nice restaurant apparently! I'll believe it when I see it. Settled on some hard salami and the sheer smell that emanates from the market. You've heard of or better yet even witnessed the smell that emanates from Pirates of the Caribbean? Well, Sorrento's market has its own unforgettable smell, and it usually winds up in a net gain of about 5 to 10 lb for your waistline. So other than some hard salami, I was sure to get the you know what out of here quickly! But do come by folks! Come from near and come from afar. My family just came from New Orleans (which happens to be the 1st city-yeah even before New York...that saw Sicilians specifically bring their great cuisine to this land) and the first thing they wanted was some hard salami from Sorrento's 2,000 miles away! Lol The spirit of Sorrento's market lives on through current owner Albert Vera Jr, who continues to do his father, mother, and the city of Culver City proud. It's not Culver City if there's not a Vera somewhere, somehow.

Luckily our group had about 6-8 people so we were able to try quite a bit of the food. Glapponese - Ground pork, garlic, bacon, soy sauce for pasta. Very strong umami in this. It's for when you'd like a simple pasta with meat and nothing too overpowering. Tarako - Cod roe and nori. This is another simple pasta when you'd like something with a strong salty flavor but want to mostly enjoy the texture of the pasta, which was soft and chewy btw. If you want a familiar Japanese flavor, this is the one to order Carbonara - A very familiar pasta in case you want to stay on the safe side. They still make it very delicious and creamy if you're in a simple mood for an Italian style pasta Keema Curry - This is where you start going for a more complex taste for your pasta. If you can't decide if you want an Italian or Japanese pasta, combine the tastes with pasta in curry Service I feel can be a bit more attentive. When they sat 6 of us down first, there were only 5 settings, so it seemed pretty natural to bring us a sixth set of utensils. But when we realized they missed it, we ended asked them. Not a big deal. But when our remaining two friends came, they sat them with us and brought out only 1 set of utensils, so we had to ask for it again. Just a small detail that had me a bit confused during the experience, but the food itself was great and we'd love to come back when they reopen

TL;DR: amazing atmosphere, alright food (take with caution as I dont like italian food as much)…read more Went here with my father while visiting LA. I just want to start off with how amazing the atmosphere was. Amazing decor, really good music, (Kaytranada, N.E.R.D) and lovely lighting. The service was pretty good too, felt properly served by the waiters there. Now for the food, I am not too much of an Italian food fan so take my food rating with a grain of salt. We got the cheesy garlic bread and meatballs for appetizers. The meatballs were huge, but were alright, great mixture of ingredients though. I heard a lot of good things about the garlic bread, and honestly it was a little overrated. Great cheesy garlic bread, but definitely not the best I've had. It was perfectly greasy, good blend of cheese, good crunchy bottom with a softer interior. I am not sure if this is true, but it felt as if they kind of melted some cheese onto the bottom? For our mains we got the bolognese and alfredo, and this is where it might not be my right to judge how good this is. The alfredo had a nice look, but I didn't like the firmness of the noodles nor the texture of the sauce. Taste-wise it was alright, it was slightly bland but to the point where it surprisingly made it better. For the bolognese, I enjoyed the taste very well. It had a nice herby flavor, and wasn't overly oily. The only thing I couldn't stand was the amount of sauce in it. I think it is personal preference, but I just don't like it. I feel like all of these reviews are just personal preference, so don't look at this review and make your final judgement to go here. For my final words; food-wise, this would be a 3/5. Atmosphere-wise, 5/5. This means I'll just even it out and give it a 4 star. If you want to take your partner/family here and you guys like Italian, then I would definitely recommend this place if you have no idea where to go. P.S: They got valet parking and I believe its like 15-20 bucks, also the bathrooms were pretty nice.

Had the place to myself. Service was amazing and very good looking. Ordered fettuccine Alfredo added shrimp. He tossed it in that huge cheese bowl. Melted the cheese into the noodles in front of me. Nice touch. Full bar. DRINKS! Amazing drinks. Got a fair buzz. The bean there done that (their version of the famous espresso martini!) delicious and woke me up. Just what I needed for my foggy brain. Fun cute, quaint, charming and on a corner of a busy street. I parked by the houses not sure if there's any other place to park (tight squeeze.) I decided to stay anyway since I was waiting for my husband to finish at the tattoo parlor down the street (highly recommend). I knew I was only there for a few glasses of wine anyway. The first waiter/bartender was amazing, great attitude and fast service. He brought me water along with my drink and came around multiple times to check if everything was ok or needed anything else. He went on his meal break and a new waitress clocked in. That's when it went downhill. There was one other table other than me in the patio and she didn't get up once to check on us for over 30 minutes, too busy on her phone with her headphones in (see photo). My glass was empty and I noticed she looked up at me but because I was reading she pretended not to notice. I eventually waved her down. Wish I could give this place a higher rating due to the first waiter, but the waitress really brought it down. The food smelled amazing so I'm still willing to give them another shot.

You can taste the charcoal grill on the meat. BUT, when we're talking BIG DADDY HAWAIIAN food, and we order a LARGE PLATE, and receive what feels like a skimpy chipotle bowl for $30/plate. You're left thinking.. will I order from this place again? I am a petite-ish size asian with a normal appetite.. and when I think Hawaiian food, it intimidates me knowing how large their portion sizes are. Let alone the name BIG DADDY and Large Plate.. I was thinking I was getting a party platters worth of food. Instead, my Large Mixed Plate included maybe a scoop full of chicken (6-7 nugget sized bites), corn salad (which is basically just boiled corn, nothing salad about it), cabbage that filled the bottom of the bowl, AND they have the audacity to put the sauce IN the container which even lessened the amount already given. ANDDD to top it off an extra charge ($3/plate) for "STEAK" is a huge stretch for basically a small scoop of kbbq brisket. Flavor was there, portion sizes for $30/plate... yeah right...
