Went in with hair almost touching the backs of my thighs, and asked for a layered cut NO SHORTER THAN MY WAIST, and left with it barely touching my armpits. How does that even happen?! Choppy layers are no good for coarse curly hair and now I have to flat iron to even manage it at this ridiculous length. The woman cut my hair with the chair all the way down to where I couldn't even see what was going on in the mirror. The bottom is very choppy and uneven and will need to be fixed but I have to grow it out so I'm not left with even shorter hair after smh will never be back to this chop shop. read more

Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I've been going here for years. Winnie used to work at another salon I went to in antioch until she opened up her own place. My girlfriend and I have been regular customers ever since. I love how she does my hair and even though she knows my usual, she still likes to ask as she goes along to confirm with me. She remembers my girlfriend and me and picks up the conversations from where we left off. My girlfriend loves the way she waxes her eyebrows and stuff and is cheaper than other places. I'm so happy for Winnie and I'm glad the reviews are looking good. Go visit the place! They're all really nice in there. read more

One of my NY's resolutions is to take better care of my hair. Maybe someday I'll go to a higher end salon, but for now this is a great choice for being on a budget. I had a wash, all over color, cut and style for 65! Got there around 1030 on a Saturday and there was only one customer other than me. Winnie made sure she understood what I wanted and gave me exactly that. She didn't go off and do something because she thought it would be better. She did hold a convo with me throughout, but wasn't super talkative. Just the way I like it. Getting my hair done is so relaxing. I always feel like falling asleep. Anyway, the color came out beautifully and she was very thorough with getting my layers just right. She could use a little instruction with the flat iron, but other than that it was great! I moved to Orange County a year ago and have never found a hair stylist that I've liked as much as the ladies at Winnie's. I went home for the week and walked in today and remembered how much I missed getting my haircut here and for only $15+tip. I've been getting my haircut at Winnie's for about maybe 5 years now and never have been disappointed. I usually bring in reference pictures with me and have never had a problem with them cutting my hair unevenly or too short. My past two haircuts in OC have been such a disappointment that I've given up on paying $50+ just to walk out with uneven, bluntly cut "layers"--if you would even call it that. Today, I was so happy walking out of the salon that I wanted to write a review just as a got home. There are no places that compare price wise and quality wise. From now on, I'm waiting until I come home to Brentwood to get my hair done here from now on. read more

I was recommended Winnie by my mother's coworker I texted Winnie asking if she can do a balayage on my hair she told me to come into the salon, I called to make sure there was enough time and she ushered me to come in, I get there I show her the picture of what I wanted she sits me down and after some time she tells me that there is not enough time today and to come back the morning after, and to promise that she could do my hair if I came back, so two days later I call and schedule for early in the morning, and when I got there I showed her the same picture and she tells me she couldn't do it! I went for a trim today. I walked in and they offered me a chair right away, it was 10 am on a weekday. The older man (didn't catch his name) cut my hair, and I was a little nervous at first. He listened and checked to make sure he understood how much length I wanted to cut off my longest layers before he started. He didn't check in to ask me questions a whole lot after that, like before using thinning shears on my bangs that are growing out- but then I didn't make a big deal about not losing length anywhere so it makes sense for him to clean it up. He did a good job just taking off a tiny bit to even it out and to make my long bangs lay better while they grow out. He was liberal with the use of the thinning shears all over, which my last stylist at Mastercuts never used but I think it worked well for my super fine, very straight hair. My layers look softer now. Long story short: No waiting, a good haircut and a blow dry for $15. read more

I'd been going to high end salons for years, but recently was looking for a cheap option that I could be happy with. I read Winnie's reviews here on Yelp, and decided to give her a try. I didn't want to take a risk with someone who might give me a bad hair cut, so for this reason, I decided to try Winnie herself. I told Winnie I wanted a lot of layering, to give my hair more body, told her the length of bangs I wanted, and she went for it. She followed my instructions very well, and even gave me the option for drying. I had always had my hair dried when I went to high end salons, but was looking for a more natural curly hair look so I told her not to dry my hair. She put a little gel in my hair, and it dried looking beautiful. I never had my hair looking so good with simple air drying. I will be going to her again, and my only regret is that I forgot to tip her on my first visit. Lastly, for whatever it is worth I am of a South East Asian, Indian descent, and she handled by hair beautifully. read more

So I'll admit, I'm not the best Yelper. I get super lazy when it comes to writing these reviews, but I feel like Winnie definitely deserves my time since she was so generous with hers. If I based my review on the first time I went here, then I'd give the place 4 stars. The lady who cut my hair the first time did an okay job, but I wasn't really feeling it. I had REALLY long hair and wanted to be dramatic and chop it all off. I was going for an A-line bob that rested above my shoulders. The lady cutting my hair that first day talked me into keeping it longer than I initially wanted. (I also think she didn't have much experience doing this kind of haircut). I left the place a little disappointed and not completely satisfied with my look. After getting home and playing with my hair for a little bit, I decided I definitely wanted it shorter. I called Winnie the very next morning and set an appointment for that same day. She told me to just walk-in whenever and she'd see me. When I got there, there were 2 people ahead of me so I waited for about 10-15 minutes, which was fine because I came earlier than I told her I would. The lady who cut my hair the previous day was not there and there was someone else in her place (which I was thankful for because that would've been a little awkward...like hey, I'm back because you did a shitty job yesterday). But Winnie was there. In retrospect, I should have requested Winnie in the first place. That woman really knows what she's doing! She recommended I get it layered a little since my hair is so thick. She asked me how long I wanted the longest layer and then proceeded to cut my hair in silence (which I appreciated because I could tell she was focused on her work). She must have spent almost an hour on my hair. Several people had walked in during my haircut, and the wait after me went up to an hour. But still, Winnie did not rush. She took her time and made sure my hair was perfectly lined. Even with the subtle layers, she gave me a perfect A-line bob. Being the cheapo that I am, I was naturally a little bummed that I would have to pay for a haircut again, but since Winnie spent soo much time making sure everything was perfect, I felt that it was worth it. But the nicest part of this whole experience, SHE DIDN'T EVEN CHARGE ME. Now that is customer service. In conclusion: -amazing customer service -amazing haircut -amazing prices ($15-$18 for women, $12 for men) Needless to say, I will not be going to anyone else for a haircut again. read more

Searching for a new hairdresser is scary, but thanks to Yelp I found the perfect match. Through experience, I've found out that not everyone can work on asian hair. Winnie does wonders to asian hair for an affordable price! I've gone to her twice. The first cut and style stayed great for 4 months, then on my second visit, it looked better than the first! Have been here twice now and both times I have come away impressed. First let me state that it is a "hair salon" which normally fails to impress me but... in this case this one for some reason does. 1: they are not pretentious it is a small place behind the Arco station that I found by sheer luck (no pun intended) when I needed somewhere quick and nearby to cut my hair. 2: when I walked in last time (yes you can make an appointment) but when you walk in (I am a guy I don't plan ahead so appointments are out of the question) off the street it doesn't feel like they will fir you in when they are ready or slow enough to care. 3: They only appear to have 2 ladies (family? Friends?) who do hair but they always make me feel like I am their best buddy (remember norm on cheers when he walked in to the bar?) even though they probably don't remember me. They get me in and out with a minimum of fuss and its only $11 for a mans cut. Hey what else do you want.? They also have a full range of women's cuts and services too (remember I am a guy) but I couldn't swear to it. Take a look some time I think you'll appreciate this place. read more

I took my mom here for her birthday to get her hair cut since she desperately wanted one and when we first walked in, there was this weird kind of tension in the air and as we waited it just became kind of uncomfortable. Two woman were on shift that day and one of the ladies just had a kind of mean demeanor to her and I think that's what lead to that weird feeling in the air. Was going to get my wife's hair cut here. Ladies are Asian and don't understand English all too well. They had to have a customer draw a picture to show them what they wanted and still argued with the lady over what she wanted. Not very professional. We ended up walking out and going elsewhere. Been going here for over 2 years. I LOVEEE the way Winnie colors and cuts my hair. She does exactly everything I want and it ALWAYS turns out how I want it. I get my hair colored, sometimes highlights and when you color, your haircut is usually included for free. She also does my eyebrows. I've been a lifelong customer and always will. Based on some great reviews, I was excited to come here for a basic trim. However, I was very disappointed after my cut. I wanted a blunt trim to make the ends seem fuller. I told her 1 inch off. Simple. When I left, I had layers about 5 inches up! Instead of a blunt cut, I was left with incredibly thin wispy ends. I walked in with armpit length hair, asking for a 1 inch trim, and left not being able to hold it all back in a pony tail because of the short layers up to the top of my ear. I can honestly say this was the worst haircut I have ever received. She did not listen to what I wanted at all. I can say without a doubt, that I will never be back. read more
