I went here today 2-8-2024 and got a number two haircut( simple buzz) and was charged 34$ for it. That's just outrageous. I've been here about five times total and all the other ppl who have given me the same haircut charge 24$. Not even sure if George still works there, but the $23 haircut he gave my ex a couple years ago was good enough to begin a 5-star review (and then accidentally wait years post it)! OOPS!! I have gone here for over a decade and then left the San Diego area. I went back in today and several of the barbers remembered me from back in the day. I have always had great experiences here, been very well taken care of over the years. Never have had a bad experience here. This is an old fashioned real barber shop not a hair salon; which, I personally strongly prefer to patronize as it's a reminder of my childhood. Colby cut my hair today and he did an absolutely excellent job of it. I had a video from home of my hair immediately after my regular barber had cut my hair and he replicated the cut perfectly and made sure my hair was completely evenly cut. I highly recommend Colby and I have had excellent cuts from others here as well. I have no idea why anyone would ever have a problem here! read more

Im from out of town so I decided to get cleaned up before a night out. Prob the worst fade I ever got. Asked for a mid skin fade and came out lookin terrible. Wasn't blended. Wasn't taken down to the skin. Lines in head. If you are used to getting fades go somewhere else. They got no idea how to give one. read more

The people here are all very friendly and great conversationalists, makes you feel like you're at home. However the haircuts, they don't seem to listen to what you want. And if you get a taper expect it to be VERY high,regardless what you ask. I always give detailed explanation of what haircut I want so there's no miscommunication. However this guy Kioni just cuts me off as I'm explaining and says he "knows exactly what I want". Surprise! He didn't know what I wanted at all, and now I look like a tool. At least now I've learned how to identify incompetence. Next time a barber or hairdresser tells me they know what I want, instead of asking questions, I'll just leave before they start f.ing me up. read more

This is the cutest barbershop I have been in San Diego. Brought there a man that needed a trim (he has the coolest naturally white hair and the texture is kind of difficult to cut that delivers a favorable look). The cut was perfectly done, well structured framing the beautiful masculine face! The stylist was very friendly (I think his name is Beto) and told us stories of this barber shop (one of the oldest still working in San Diego with the old school chairs in red and metal and those decorative elements from past decades. Very retro-chic. Great location in Hillcrest and, to my surprise, they also do women's hair. I was convinced was a gay-only place, but no, everything that can be cut, permed, styled is accepted. read more

Winns is a cute shop, takes appointments or walk ins if they have time. They took my temperature, gave me hand sanitizer and even had partitions between each station. The staff was very nice so over all I give this place 5 stars. George did an amazing job on my hair as well. read more

been here twice cause when getting haircuts it's about the person cutting your hair not the establishment as a whole. First time the tall blonde guy took out way too much even though I explained what I wanted, he was done in like 7-9 mins when the most people who do what I ask take 15 mins and I just knew he went on auto pilot and took off too much. Second time I let my hair grow out on purpose, brought in a picture or 2 for reference with a different guy, again, took out way too much, a lot actually. I feel like they don't apply what you tell them when they cut, just autopilot mode. The guy who cut my hair repeated 3 times if i wanted to leave charge flat, as in no extra for a tip, I said no and he asked 2 more times. TAKE a HINT I won't tip for a haircut I didn't ask for, It is not a terrible cut but it's not even and not what I asked for/showed him. read more

I have been getting my hair cut here since I moved to San Diego almost seven years ago. I saw some guy on the street that had a tight fade. I asked him where he got his fade. The guy looked at me with a blank expression... I asked the question a different way, "where did you get your hair cut?".... "Oh..." he responded... I have cycled through several barbers since I started going to Winn's. The only one who is still there back from when I first started going is George. All of the barbers are good. Terri is cutting my hair these days (once a week) and she gives an awesome fade. Validated parking is a big plus in that part of town as well. read more

This is my Husbands go to barbershop. He's never had a issue here and his barber is very accommodating. While my daughter and I were waiting for my Hubs another barber walked over and asked if my daughter would like a braid. That was really nice of him, which also made my daughter feel special. I will start out by saying that I'm not the one who gets my hair trimmed here. However, my boyfriend does, and the last few times I have accompanied him on the trip. Everyone that works here is very friendly and welcoming. I wish I knew the name of the guy that cuts my bf's hair, because he is the best. He does a good job every.single.time, and makes a point to ask me how I would like his hair to be cut...and then quietly tells my boyfriend that it's my opinion that matters most. Winner in my book, because he is right :) I really like how the place is decorated - always stuff to stare at and keep me entertained. Randomly came in to get a hair cut. Isaac immediately took me in, say me down and helped me decide what kind of haircut to get. I really had no idea what I wanted, but Isaac was very patient and asked me if he can just trim one side slightly to see if I liked it. I ended up liking it a lot! He was very precise with his tools and made my messy head come out looking classy and stylish. Definitely would recommend Isaac and I will be returning for sure. read more

I go to this place on a regular basis. Sometimes it can take getting used to, since it is very Hillcrest-y, but everyone in there is cool and fun to talk to. It is always (fairly) easy to get an appointment there. The prices are reasonable and they validate your parking in the lot. The funny part is that I was the guy waiting to get my hair cut while Jesse was getting his hair cut. Damn you took forever bro! I thought I was gonna have to bail on my cut! But Ernesto was cool and I thought it was awesome that he said he would hook you up if you did not like it in a few days. I like this place. read more

Searching for a new barber sucks...you get a bad cut, come out looking like Bozo and have to run home and buzz yourself with the clippers to be seen in public...that is unless you get a cut by Travis! He gives a good cut and makes you feel right at home. Nothing worse than sitting in the chair with nothing to say, while this stranger with a sharp pair of scissors is right next to your head. It doesn't hurt that he's great surfer guy eye candy! Initially, I was freaked out cause I've had the same guy cut my hair for years and have never got a bad cut. Travis was careful to ask me what it was I wanted and I appreciated the fact that he listened to what I said. He was a little cautious and slow at first but then got into it. Ernesto cut my hair today. I'm very happy with what he did: I never know what to tell a barber and he handled my mop and made it a proper top. Very comfortable waiting and styling chairs. They have a really cool compressed air machine to blast away the trimmings from your clothes and skin, feels great too. After my cut, as I was getting a rinse, I mentioned that the shampoo was vey nice after a week using the hotel stuff. Before I left, Ernesto made sure to send me off with a handful of free sames of their stuff. The whole place and crew had a friendly vibe. My son liked the penny gumball machine. Ernesto, when I asked him, gave me a lot of good advice about things for me and my son to do. Loved it. Highly recommended. read more

I have been coming here for years to get my haircut, and I won't go anywhere else. I see Ernesto and he always does a fantastic job. He's also warm and funny and should receive an award from the neighborhood business association because he knows and greets everyone as they walk by. He's something of an ambassador. Winn's has the feel of a neighborhood barbershop from when I was a kid, but unlike those early experiences I don't leave humiliated. I leave looking spruce af and it's why I will always come here and recommend this shop over any other in town.
