Dr. Winston Yee is located in "Hesperian Dental" in a olde commercial strip mall nearby Autozone. it's not advisable to park in front of his office as cars go 2 ways in a narrow roadway. better to park at the side of mall where there isn't as much traffic. i came here for a 2nd opinion on a dental procedure my present dentist is proposing. a year ago, she "saw" possible" gum disease underneath my teeth in a x-ray. she recommended removing same tooth to cure the gum. she was concern the germ would migrate to other parts of body with "life threatening consequences". i gave my consent. to the tooth removal and subsequent gum treatment though i had my doubts. the most recent x-ray she "saw" decay underneath a crown. she also saw images of decay on the base of an nearby teeth. in both cases she expressed doubt whether she could "save" my teeth. with minimum effort, she remedied my decayed tooth. as for the decay underneath the crown. she was uncertain whether she could replace the bridge once the "disease/decay" was remedied. she wanted me to commit to an implant or denture before proceeding.work in the event she couldn't replace the bridge. this implied implants will be recommended on the adjacent teeth in the future. implants are $4000 to $5000 each. i was confused. the dentist's "wishy washy" attidude may not have been sincere. it wasn't inability at play, it seem to be a ruse. as my wife had a "bad" experience with her implant experience with this same dental office, i decided to seek a 2nd opinion. Dr. Yee found there was no decay under the teeth. the decay was under an adjacent teeth. Dr. Yee stated he would have no problems building a new bridge. his advice was clear and precise. in the event, my crowns needed to be replaced, the 3 crowns and bridge would be under $3000. under my other dentist, each implant will be $4000. each. once implants are in. one can't switch to another kind of teeth maintenance. they all had to be implants in the future. there's also routine cleaning that wasn't mentioned. the kicker: my former dentist is in a Kaiser plan. Dr. Yee doesn't take Kaiser. even with no insurance, my costs here will be substantially lower than at my former dentist place. beware of implant specialists. they don't do regular dental work, they prefer pulling teeth and doing implants only. i decided to switch dentists while i was still in Dr. Yee's office. he happened to know my lst dentist in chinatown who was also an elementary school classmate. read more

Called to the office of Winston Yee DDS for an appointment 2-3 months ago for dental cleaning. I cancelled work in plan of coming to this appointment. 3 days before the appointment, an assistant called me to inform the dentist declined to see me because their office is not taking new patients with Medi-Cal Dentical coverage. This is the third provider within miles from my zip code. 9 months and counting without access to dental care. This dentist doesn't know what number the teeth are. I went to him to replace a crown on my tooth #19 which my insurance approved to pay part of the service. . He did tooth #31 which is on the opposite side of my mouth. Then my insurance wouldn't pay their portion and I didn't think it was my error and didn't pay the additional 365.00. He turned me into a collection agency. To avoid having bad credit I was forced to pay. If he does anything in your mouth make sure he's doing the right tooth. Bring a mirror and diagram of your teeth to make sure he's working on the right tooth your insurance will cover. Might want to do a selfie with him pointing to the tooth he's working on. We were very positively impressed with our experience at the office of Dr. Winston Yee, to which we had come for cleanings and check-ups. A dentist I had been seeing previously had been pushing very hard for me to get numerous crowns. When I asked Dr. Yee for his opinion, he said (after having asked me whether I had any complaints, to which had I answered in the negative), "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Dr. Yee is truly a breath of fresh air, a kind and compassionate person, with the true interests of the patient at heart. We also appreciated his efforts at continuing education with regard to good dental hygiene. Dr. Yee's hygienist, Cora, was also very good. Amazing experience with Dr. Yee! I haven't been to the dentist in a while so I was terribly afraid to even make an appointment. Dr Yee was the best dentist I could have asked for, he didn't beat around the bush on what I need to fix. He answered every question I had and gave a thorough explanation on everything he was doing. I've gone to this dentist for six years, and the Dr. Yee was never concerned about my actual dental health. After six years of going to him for a broken tooth, he completely disregarded the rest of my teeth, and now I have several cavities and other teeth problems. He also did a terrible root canal on my front tooth, and many dentists have refused to do anything because of how bad of a job he did. Finally, after six years of going to him I tried to schedule an appointment with him and I was told that he would no longer see me. Now I have to reverse all of the terrible things he has done to my teeth, and I am still on the search for a dentist that will reverse the effects of this horrible root canal. read more

My children were seen in this office about 8 times for cleanings. Likes: it was down the street from us~ it was clean~ friendly staff I was fine until the Dr lost my trust..just ONE TIME...to me it was one time too many ..because it had involved my children. My children go for their regular cleanings. Until recently, my 13 year old came out of the room w/a gauze in his mouth. I was not aware that he would get a tooth pulled out. He was given Novocain. I asked my son, what happened and of course he could barely talk. I asked the reception if she could tell me what was done with my son. She said she didn't have the file on hand and called the Dr. The Dr called me in and I explained to him that all I was aware of was..this was a "regular cleaning" appointment and I wasn't told about getting a tooth pulled. He said, that he had to remove it because according to the xray, it looked like it was getting infected. He showed me the xray. What I explained to him was, he's a minor, I'm his parent and you gave him novocain(even if it was a small amount) w/o telling me first. You wouldn't even know if he was allergic to something. That is a BIG NO NO IN MY BOOK! Not going here again. That's a big mess up for me to come back. Sorry. Never in my experience have I never been consulted first. read more

I've been going to this dentist for 5 years because my front tooth was broken with a baseball bat. He gave me a terrible root canal and now several dentists that I have gone to after him have refused to work on my tooth because of how poorly it was done that they cannot even reverse it. In addition to that, he gave me a temporary tooth that is not supposed to stay in for more than three months, but he allowed one single temporary tooth to stay in for 2 years. After that, that tooth fell out, and he refused to cement it back in like he had been doing for the past 2 years because he no longer wanted to claim the terrible work he had done, so I was forced to walk around with one tooth until I found someone who was kind enough to help me. I've been coming to see Dr. Yee since I was a child. The staff are all incredibly nice and awesome people. Dr. Yee treats all of his patients like family. He loves making conversation with you. It's kind of funny and ironic how he loves to have a conversation with you, but it's hard to converse back with him because you have all these tools in your mouth! It's the thought that counts, but it's really hilarious how we end up at that awkward predicament of conversations. Dr. Yee is really down to earth and an awesome dentist. O M G, dr applied topical to numb my gums as soon as he did this, he started injecting, my gums didn't even get numb before he injected and as soon as he did the injection, he started pulling my tooth x2, it was the worst experience I have ever had at the dentist. Also I felt I was drooling and he said not to worry it was just spit, he lied, I bleed profusely and couldn't get it to stop, I called back after I got home and they told me to use a tea bag, which actually stop the bleeding along with prayer. I have been going to Dr Yee for about 25 years. Why because he is an excellent dentist. Several years ago I had to visit an oral surgeon. During the visit he asked me who had done my gold crowns. So I went with Dr. Yee based on some really positive reviews I read on Hesperian Dental. Also, he was on the short list of dentists in San Leandro who accepted Medi Cal. I got an appointment fairly easily, his office called me promptly, though their phone manners were a little rough, but whatever. I get in to the office, the waiting room and restroom were nicely decorated. Then I get into the actual dental examination room and it looks like I'm in a makeshift storage area. I could see dusty fake plants and a partition at the end of the wall in my "room". Nothing looks clean...I mean the dental examination tools were literally haphazardly scattered on a tray off to the side and I immediately got nervous. I was trying to get a closer look, but they didn't look shiny from the examination chair. I just kept telling myself I was nervous because I hadn't been to a dentist in a while. I kept looking around while I was waiting for the dentist and all the gauze were in some dusty ass jars on an unorganized counter to my left. Then the dental assistant came into give me my x-rays and opened up a drawer and pulled out some plastic tray holder things to widen my mouth for the x-ray. They didn't come out of plastic or a sanitizer jar. After she took the x-rays, she just left them on the counter, not on a tray, or a napkin, or a sanitizer tub, or sink, or even the trash, just literally on the counter. The dentist came in and I told him I thought my wisdom teeth needed to come out because my jaw was in a lot of pain and in could feel the tooth coming in for several days at that point. He confirmed they needed to come out and referred me to a local oral surgeon. He was nice and amicable in our conversation. Then he asked me if I was allergic to penicillin to which I said no, but that was still breastfeeding my infant daughter and he said just ask my doctor if it's okay if I take it. I thought it was kind of random, but thought he was making a future note of it for my wisdom teeth removal. Then he said okay, Marlene in the front will give you the phone numbers for the oral surgery offices that accept Denti Cal and handed me a prescription slip. As I walked to the front, I read it was a prescription for penicillin to be picked up and used in the next three days. When I asked the front office lady, Marlene if she could ask Dr. Yee why I needed penicillin when I said my jaw hurt, he quickly told her oh, well if she doesn't want it, she doesn't need to pick it up. But I know penicillin is for infections, so in chimed in and asked, do I have an infection or something? And And he said, uh, yeah. I thought it was SO sketchy because he didn't say anything about an infection when I was just sitting in the chair with him a minute before. I said, well if you think it's absolutely necessary, I'll take it, but would rather not because I'm breastfeeding. He said, okay, well if you can stand the pain, then don't worry about it. So I didn't use it. Side note, my boyfriend went in for a teeth cleaning just after my appointment because he really needed one and the had a really fair price because he was paying out of pocket. He said the Dr. Yee didn't do a very thorough job on the cleaning and didn't use one of those vacuums to suck up the saliva so he had tons of saliva built up in his mouth during the cleaning at a few points because the doctor didn't give him enough opportunities to spit. I do not regret choosing Dr. Yee as my dentist recently and you won't either. Having no insurance or funds kept me from the dentist office for years, but pain when I chewed on one side of my mouth and finally getting Medi-Cal coverage in May brought me to search for and find Dr Yee, who luckily takes the insurance. In an x-ray and exam, he discovered my only fillings had cracked and recommended a removal/replacement after a cleaning for which I was years over-due. He did the work efficiently and with care. I'm a big baby about pain and anytime I felt anything I didn't like, he and his assistant responded to and fixed swiftly. He and his staff listen attentively and are courteous and address any concerns professionally and proficiently, returning my calls the same day, etc. He advised me going forward, telling me I did right to take care of this now before it got worse. Equipment are outdated, looks like the dr didn't ask the patient's permission and apply anesthesia. 10 mins for regular teeth wash, this is the fastest thing I ever seen !! Can you really clean teeth in 10 mins?! Doubt about it, still have tartars on teeth. And 2 mins for amalgam!! read more

So glad I found this place, very friendly front desk and the dr is awesome, very conservative, friendly, honest, and ive been in the dental field for past 7 years. i would like to say that i am so-o-o happy to have found dr yee. i am a patient without dental insurance with only medi-cal and i have let my teeth get worse over the years. when i first met dr yee we discussed a plan on helping me get my teeth repaired and ive been to him about 3 times now and he has done an absolutely wonderful job. he is patient and very informative. i also appreciate his staff. the receptionist is a very nice young lady whose very sweet and cheerful everytime i come in the door. the dental assistant is also very nice and lovely as well. i love the whole dental office and i thank god for them. love you guys!!!! read more
