Care Quality! After 2 years and $7,000.00 I needed almost everything he did redone, decay⁉

Let me start by saying I am a tough patient, my past experience of selling dental supplies and equipment has me scrutinize a dental practice before I consider making an appt. I want to be treated with the best materials and equipment available to a practice. With that in mind I have been a patient of Dr Murphy's for the past 9 years, he cares enough about his patients by providing not only the best service, materials, but by keeping his practice up to date with education, equipment and materials. I know not all patients think about that, but he and his staff do and it shows. I have no problem ever sharing his name and number with friends, family and even strangers because that's how good they are. Oh and yes my husband and I drive 1.5 hrs to see him because he & his staff are that good! He just recently helped me with a broken crown, it was awesome to just spend a few hrs then walk away with a brand new crown that fit perfectly in just one visit (one visit can you believe it). My entire family has been coming to been coming to Dr Murphy's office for the past 4 years. On the outside Its a nice office, meaning fancy furniture and interior decorating. The hygienist are all very nice but they are not your dentist. In 4 years I've only seen my dentist twice and I have 2 appointments a year and a family of 4 who come to the dentistry. He only works 2-3 days a week and no weekends. If you are looking for a dentist that will see you every time. This may not be the best fit. When my dentist retired I asked for a good recommendation. I had bad experiences in the past and was bummed to lose my dentist who I trusted. He recommended Mark Murphy, DDS. I went in to get checked out and saw Dr. Mackenzie Murphy (Marks daughter). She was super nice and very thorough. CT scan of the teeth and x-rays painted an accurate picture of the status of my teeth. Turns out I needed a root canal and then a crown as the tooth was pretty messed up from an earlier dentist. I had a cleaning with the hygienist which was the best cleaning I ever had. I came back weeks later for the root canal. I was nervous as it was one of my front teeth. Dr. MacKenzie gives an excellent injection and there was minimal pain. Afterwards the tooth acted up but was quickly treated with antibiotics. After 2 weeks I went back for the crown which was made that day in the office. The tooth now looks and feels great. This office checks off all the marks: great staff and doctors, excellent work and it cost way less than I expected. If you are looking for a new dentist - look no further! read more

Dr Murphys office was really great for me. I saw the younger Dr. Murphy and she was thorough and professional. The front staff is also very kind. My only complaint is with my cleaning. My hygienist didn't give me the suction as much as I would like but that's an issue with me. I do not like swallowing when my teeth get cleaned so I really like to have suction often which I didn't have during this visit. It may be something I need to address next time. read more

I have dreaded going to the dentist because of a few rough experiences that have made me consider never seeing a dentist again. I had moved to the Bay Area last August and was referred to Dr. Murphy's office when I chipped a tooth. My experience with Dr. Murphy and his staff has been a wonderful one. I've had many cracked and crowned teeth over the years. Needless to say going to the dentist has become a norm in my life. For many years, I had another dentist I trusted but he retired recently. It's hard to replace the trust and level of service I was accustomed to. Luckily a colleague referred me to Dr. Murphy. Yesterday I cracked a molar and knew I needed a crown in a hurry since I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow. I called the office promptly in the morning and the receptionist was so understanding and helpful telling me to come in as soon as possible. I was impressed they could accommodate me so quickly as I wasn't a preexisting patient. When I arrived about 15 minutes later, the receptionists were very welcoming and the assistant Monique took me in quickly. Dr. Murphy arrived shortly after and assured me he could complete my crown today even with his other appointments. Awesome! This office has state of the art technology to finish your crown in about an hour. My visit was comfortable, easy and efficient. Dr. Murphy and his staff are friendly and professional taking pride in their work. I'll definitely return along with the rest of my family. BTW: He does oral surgery too; no being referred to an outside office. read more

Another fair review, so you know... I had veneers done and for whatever reason, I've had nothing but trouble. My advice: do your homework, google possible veneer problems. Unless you have major issues, I suggest you stay away from having them done period. Another suggestion: before they're permanently glued on, ask that they be temporarily glued. Make sure and check out the color in natural light, rather than in the dental chair. read more

I have been going to Dr. Murphy for 10+ years and have nothing but good things to say about him and his staff. Dr. Murphy: Dr. Murphy is amazingly nice and a huge believer in pain free dental care. He will do everything he can to keep you comfortable during your treatments - and I have had several treatments such as fillings and a root canal. He uses the most up to date technology allowing the best service possible. He has tv's in the ceilings to keep you distracted while he does his work, which works perfect for me because I start to pay more attention to what's on tv then what's going on in my mouth. Dr. Murphy is always very friendly and makes you feel very welcome in the office. To sum it up, Dr. Murphy is awesome! Hygienist: I personally see Jackie. She is gentle and I believe she genuinely cares about my (and everyone else's) oral hygiene. (which is rare these days) She takes her time and talks about any issues such as sensitivity, etc. She's very through with cleaning and doing an oral exam. (Not too sure about the experience the gentleman had in a previous review, but that has never been the case for me and I have been seeing Jackie for years) I have had nothing but great experiences with Jackie. Jan is great too!! Office Staff and Dental Assistant: Always professional and friendly. I have nothing bad to say about any of them. Atmosphere of the office: Awesome!! Dr. Murphy pulled out all the stops when he moved to this locations resulting in a BEAUTIFUL office. The office is actually warm and cozy and does NOT feel or look like a dentist office. (well, minus the dental chairs and such) The office is always super clean, and even smells clean when you walk in - not like cleaning chemicals...just...clean! Price: I have no clue, as I always have good dental insurance and rarely have to pay anything out of pocket - and if I do, it like a $20 copay that they will bill me for. I have referred several people to Dr. Murphy over the years and they all absolutely love him, the office and his team. Ive been coming here since I was little...How long ago you ask? Well I went to them when they were in Hayward off of B st. Dr. Murphy himself use to clean my teeth and I'd always get a toy afterwards! :) Anyway, Everybody there is WONDERFUL! I always have a pleasant experience at Dr. Murphy's office. One thing I love about them is when I need to reschedule (due to my school and work schedule changing every semester) they are fine with that and never give me attitude about it. I echo the other comment. I as well am not a "regular" when it comes to dentistry. In fact, I was REALLY put off by one office (not this one!) that really kept me away for a number of years. My wife & kids have gone to Dr. Murphy for some time and they finally talked the "Dental Chicken" to go in. Jackie did an initial cleaning and then deeper stuff on another visit. Here is what I have to say about this practice: 1) The experience starts when you pull into the well laid out parking area amongst shade trees. The dental office is actually a house converted to a dental practice (although the "home feel" was not lost). As you walk to the front door you immediatel smell the Wisteria that grows on the overhead lattice on the porch. 2) The waiting area and front desk are very inviting and "warm" feeling. A couple flat screen TV's are going in the waiting area. 3) The entire staff make you feel at home and welcome. There is not an aire of "office" but more like "family". Makes you feel at ease. 4) Jackie is nothing short of amazing. Her patience and understanding to my apprehension was so appreciated I can not begin to describe. Since I don't go often I think she had her work cut out for her but she did a great job. I went in fearing the worse and came out with nice clean teeth and almost NO pain whatsoever. Jackie is awesome, awesome, awesome!!! I wont go anywhere else now. 5) Dr. Murphy is also top shelf. I have had others that have a certain arrogance or do not take the time you need, etc. Not so with Dr. Murphy. First, just like his staff, he made me feel welcome and comfortable. He is professional and shoots straight. I can say this is the FIRST dental professional (along with Jackie) that I am totally at ease with (I am 50 years old now so I have been around a bit). 6) Everything is digital. They have a screen right there where you can instantly review your "xray" and go over any issues. Also the TV in the ceiling is a nice touch (so when you are tilted back you can watch). To summarize, if you need a place for quality dental care, and you tired of all the BS that is out there and just want to get things taken care of in a relaxing environment, this is the place. Dr. Murphy and his entire staff are wonderful. We are a family of five and we all have great experiences every time we visit. When my middle child was 2 years old, she fell while we were in Yosemite and shattered her front tooth. We couldn't find any help locally near Yosemite, so we contacted Dr. Murphy. We drove straight to his office from Yosemite and Dr. Murphy met us ---on a Sunday --- to examine our toddler. I was stressed and frantic, but Dr. Murphy was calm, professional, and so very KIND. I'll never forget that he was there when we needed him. AND that he was so helpful and sweet with our little one. She's 11 now and we still depend on Dr. Murphy and his amazing front desk team and dental hygienists. The office is beautifully decorated and clean. I highly recommend Dr. Murphy. I have been searching for a dentist for about 3 yrs and had a horrible experience in Tracy. I took my mother to an appt with her dentist, Dr Murphy. Let me tell from the time we got in the office I was impressed! I live in Manteca and let me tell you it's well worth the commute,Dr Murphy himself is so nice and explains everything and even puts up with my constant questions just love him and his staff. Had a crown put in last week here and Dr. Murphy and ALL his staff were great. I had never had a crown so Dr. Murphy was great about explaining everything as we went. The whole procedure was painless and I usually get nervous about dental work but not this time. Also, I don't have insurance and had to pay with CareCredit, and I have to say they treated me no different and his front office staff were very kind and understanding. I have been going to Jackie Blair (Dental Hygentist) since I was a child. I have followed her along with 8 of my family members here to Dr Murphys office. We all LOVE her and we ALL have great clean teeth. We see her every 4-6 months for cleanings. We have never had a bad experience at this office or with any of the friendly staff at Dr Murphys office. Even when our insurance changed and Dr Murphys office would not take our insurance we paid out of pocket to come have our teeth cleaned by Jackie! Even the decor is beautiful here and unlike any other dentist office around. Bottom line we only have great things to say about this office and will always reccommend them to Anyone! read more

I went without a dentist for a period of time due to my dentist retiring. A good friend referred me to Dr. Murphy. I am TERRIFIED of the dentist. Anytime the drill is used, I know it will be painful. I was very upfront with Dr. Murphy and his staff about my fear. They were very kind, explained everything as they went. Unfortunately, I require a lot of novacaine because my teeth are so sensitive. After my appointment, with my new crown, he gave me a shot that helped the novacaine wear off faster. They said that they couldn't tell that I was fearful. I think they deserve the credit for that. Cindy at the front desk is amazing. Totally organized, has all the insurance info. necessary and very prompt in getting the info. to the patient. They saw my husband on an emergency basis and he couldn't be happier with our new dentist. Mary Ann did my cleaning yesterday and she is very thorough and personable. Dr. M's dental assistant was concerned about a chipped tooth and since the dentist was out, she put a filler in until my appointment so the jagged part didn't cut my tongue. I would recommend Dr. Murphy without reservation! I can't believe how pain free he is. There are TV's in the ceiling so while I'm reclined during the procedure I'm able to catch up with the ladies of "The View". The office has every high tech dental equipment you can imagine, such as making crowns & the adjustments onsite without it having to be sent out and having to return for another appt. I drive all the way from Berkeley because Dr. Murphy is just the best dentist I've ever gone to. BTW girls, he's really cute! read more

Just a fair review that everyone should know. I got my teeth cleaned by Jackie and she decided to skip over the area that I claimed was sensitive. This being the gum between the front two bottom teeth. You know, did not even try to remove the staining or tartar. She talked throughout the cleaning making me comfortable, yes, but does not mean she did a good job. I switched Dentist's 6 months after that cleaning due to the increase of Murphy's prices and had my teeth cleaned by the hygienist there. The hygienist said she would have guessed I did not have a cleaning done in two years. Tartar was below my gum line and I have to get a deep cleaning in QUADS. And yes , I brush and floss regularly! FRUSTRATING! So just remember just because someone appears to be nice , generous and informative does not make them good at their job..... My experience at Dr. Murphys was not a good one. To me, it was a waste of money and time. I paid to have my teeth cleaned and obviously they were not cleaned the way they should have been. read more

Dr. Murphy & his staff are AWESOME! I hadn't been to a dentist in about 7 years so I needed a very thorough cleaning. I was afraid that my gums would bleed & hurt, but although it took two appointments I came through with minimal discomfort. The nice thing about having two appointments, though, was that I got to meet Dr. McCready & Jackie & experience their different techniques using different technologies. I have been going to Dr. Murphy for almost 30 years and I have nothing but the highest regard for he and his staff. They are always kind and courteous. They have been there for us in emergency situations.But the one of the things I appreciate so much is the fact that my kids grew up loving the dentist. They got great instruction on dental hygiene and that made all the difference. I recently started bring my elderly mother-in-law with Dementia, always in urgent need and they have always gotten us in and been so gentle with her.
