Terrible. Initially, this company was helpful and sent out someone for an estimate as I had a roof leak and some interior damage. The person that arrived was helpful and said they were going to be able to schedule repairs the following week. Everything went downhill after that. The person that works their front desk is extremely unresponsive. I literally called and emailed them 6-7 times. Finally, they said they would be mailing my a physical copy of their estimate as they were having problems sending emails. Never received that either. Avoid. I'm going to go to another roofing company that actually cares about their customers. Do not recommend. read more

Winter Roofing removed my old tile roof and replaced it with a new Presidential solaris roof in two days. Javier is easy to work with and provides up front reasonable yet competitive pricing. He took care of the inspection report and when the inspector mentioned an item, Javier had one of his team members come by to resolve it immediately. They also replaced or added plywood to the roof prior to the shingles being installed to make for a proper installation that is sure to last many years. I also appreciate the fact that there was one down payment to partially cover the permit at the beginning with the remainder due at completion. My mother recently had the need to replace her roof. After procuring 3 quotes, we decided to go with Winter Roofing. Not only was it the lowest bid, but it was the only one that addressed ALL of the issues we had discussed during our walk-through with each vendor (details!). I also liked the fact that it is a family owned business. Javier Martinez, the owner, was very responsive to questions and responded to emails very quickly. We needed THREE layers of roofing removed and decided to replace with CertainTeed brand shingles. We also opted for new gutters (with covers) and downspouts. The estimate for completion was 4-5 days. I was amazed with how hard these guys worked. On time arrival and started work by 8am and not gone until 6:30pm. Each day, they cleaned up outside before they left. They actually finished in four days! I DO wish we had been given some instruction on how to prepare certain areas (eg, didn't think to cover anything in the garage). Quickly discovered that 50+ years ago they didn't use plywood on that part of the house so there was a lot of debris falling in during the removal process. No worries, Javier had his guys clean out the garage (twice!) during initial removal and then again at the end of the project. They did a great job with that as well. Unfortunately, there was one small spot of damage inside where there had been some water damage above. A small hole was discovered in the ceiling of mom's bedroom and Javier has said he will come back and patch that up too. Overall, I'm very impressed with the work done and the responsiveness of Javier to all the many questions my mother and I had during this process. I would definitely recommend them. read more

We got 5 quotes when we were looking to replace our roof, and Winter Roofing was by far the cheapest, they had good reviews from the people who referred them to us, so we went with them. Unfortunately, we got what we paid for. Here is the list of things they did: When doing the demo we had requested them to tarp the garage so we didn't have to clean after: the demo crew showed up and we had to stop them to ask them for help doing it ourselves: they left the garage a mess, and we had to clean it up after, which took days. Also while doing the demo: they didn't cover our A/C units on the side of the house. We also had to clean those, after we realized they didn't do that. When they installed our chimney cap a screw dropped down the chimney. They asked us if we found it in the fire place, which we didn't. They said they had a spare and installed it. One week later, when it was windy, we heard a huge bang: our new chimney cap was on the side of our house because they never actually installed it. It was a huge ordeal getting a new one installed after the fact. During cleanup, I expect that there will be nails in the yard...however, they didn't even bring a magnet to help us get the nails out of the yard. If we hadn't had one at our house and asked them to sweep the yard (which they did a TERRIBLE job doing), they would have left and never cleaned up. In addition to the hundreds of nails, they also left around a hundred cigarette butts, metal gutter scraps, and scraps of roofing material all over the yard. Finally, when we tried to pay them, they billed the wrong vendor. When they asked us to pay the same amount again, I said not until I get a refund. They threatened to put a notice with the credit bureau if I didn't pay, even though they had made the mistake. I had to threaten to sue them before they agreed to wait until I received my refund from their error for me to pay them. It was without a doubt the worst experience we have ever had with anybody we were paying for a service, and as I said above we got what we paid for. read more

They just put a new roof on our home in San Jose their bid was competitive, they dealt with the city and permits and the finished job looked great.Last year they added rain gutters to our Morgan Hill house. They had to cut extended rafters and repair termite damage before putting on the gutters. No other company would bid on the job it turned out great. read more

I did my homework by calling 4 contractors, and decided to hire Winters, because of one of my neighbors, who was happy and the inspection was flawless. They did a great job in my house, the roofers were nice and polite all the time, and finished the installation in only 3 days.The general manager explained the process in detail and came to my house several times to inspect and to make sure that the roofers had all they needed. They had great communication and the timing for each step was coordinated perfectly. The roof looks great and we are happy with the colors and options we selected. There was a lot of dirt and debri from the old roof, but the first crew was able to clean most of the stuff. They actually went back to the attic to clean up after they finish everything. The inspection was easy. The inspector mentioned that they did a great job. And the final test was the rain we had the day after the installation. I am a happy customer and would recommend Winter Rooffing if you want to replace your roof. read more

I called for an estimate, they didn't show up on-time if they even showed, and it has been at least 2 weeks and I still haven't received the estimate. I called them at least 7 times. They answered the phone twice and said each time they would check on it and call me back. They did not. This must be a mom and pop shop because I have never seen this type of unprofessionalism. Winter roofing was a recommendation from our neighbor and we were very satisfied with their work. The garage does get dirty since they pull off all the shingles and old wood. Make sure you TARP well, otherwise you will have alot of clean up after. I think they tarped a little, but you may want to do extra to avoid the work on the backend. We got three bids like you are supposed to do when you plan a major home improvement project. Winter's price was most competitive. And we liked the sales guy, Tom. He talked us through several alternatives and showed us the pros and cons of different roofs and roof ventilating approaches. There is more to know about roofs than you'd think. Javier, the owner, came several times to check on the job. His workers, especially Fabian, were great. They worked fast and professionally on our re-roofing job. Sounds funny to say but the people from Winter Roofing really CARED that they did a great job. It was obvious from their demeanor that they took pride in their work and their company and they had the knowledge to do the job the right way, even if it was not the quickest way. And our new roof - we went from shake to composition - is beautiful. The new roof has very nice color and texture. We chose CertainTeed Presidential Shake TL, Autumn Blend. I think it looks as interesting as shake, but classier. Shake can look a little scruffy after a few years, and there is the fire hazard issue. A new roof is such a huge investment, it's a great relief to have a super nice roof from a company that I can refer with confidence. read more

Winter roofing did my own roofing work ten years ago when my insurance agent first referred them to me. I am pretty happy with their work. Recently, they won the bids and replaced two duplex's roofing for me, they also added gutter and gutter cover, repaired a bunch of boards on the roof. If I could rate this company a zero I would. I had an 11am appointment for an estimator to come to my house today. I called them at 11:19 and asked when the estimator would arrive. The person I spoke to said he was an estimator and that the office had gone out of town and are not answering and would I like I to reschedule. Got 3 quotes for a new flat roof to be installed to a rental house. Winter roofing tied in price with another company, except they included an additional tapered system in the bid. When it came time to start the project, it rained. After two last minute re-schedule due to weather, we moved the project four months out. Then we had to fine tune the dates due to my vacation schedule, tenant's schedule, my other contractors' schedule. Each time we moved the project date, Tom was super-responsive and accommodating. Once the project started, they worked everyday and completed ahead of schedule. Since I'm not on-site, Tom would send me status via email. Part of the job was dry rot repair, which was quoted on time and material. I felt uneasy about it since this house had been leaking for years, I thought for sure it had rotten badly inside. The repair came out to be $200, much lower than what I anticipated. There was a minor misunderstanding with the office when they sent their invoice. The issue was promptly resolved as soon as Tom got involved. Overall the project was well managed, execution was smooth. I would not hesitate to use them again for my next project. read more

They fixed some damage to the fascia as well as did a "tune-up" for my tile roof. Winter Roofing replaced the torch-down flat roof with GAF Everguard Extreme TPO and our mansard terracotta tiles with a high end GAF designer shingle. They also re-insulated our attic, added gutters, repaired a bunch of old rotted out boards on the roof, and added solar attic vents. They also worked hand in hand with our solar installer to get the solar stanchion feet all sealed up. All in all, the process was pretty smooth. Our home has roofing issue and water damage on the siding. We were very lucky to have Winter Roofing to help us solve the problem. Tom is very knowledgeable on roofing. He pointed out the roofing problems without getting into the house. Javier is excellent. To make sure things were done right, Javier stepped in and replaced four 26-feet beams himself and his team. While it would take him several trips, Javier recommended to have the painters come in to do exterior painting before Winter Roofing replaced the roof. After the roof was done, Tom came back to check the roof and found out several broken tiles and slant vent pipe. Javier sent another worker to replace the broken tiles and slant pipe. Tom then did another final check. While the project was still in progress, we had friends and neighbors stopped by. Before Javier finished our roofing project, he had already received another two roofing projects and the third one is on estimate through our roofing project. I have to say thank you, Winter Roofing! Javier sent us with the quote of the roof job we requested but the total estimate was higher than what he quoted us verbally in person several days earlier. I called and he said he wanted to make sure we would not have anything to worry about(?) We decided to let him slide and make some extra money even though it's very unethical. At the end of the job, we discovered several items were not fully completed per the quote. Javier again gave us more other excuses. The work seems acceptable but Javier could have been a better and more honest business person. read more

We received 4 quotes from local roofers who had good reviews from yelp and decided to go with Winter Roofing. Their quote for lifetime shingles and CDX board was a couple thousand cheaper than competitors and Tom even came back 3 times to make sure the color and design were right. After that, the crew completed the new roof in 3 days. Day 1: stripped off old wood roof. Day 2, 3: lay down CDX and new shingles. Winter roofing was as stated in the other reviews: professional, fast, courteous, clean and very helpful. Anyone who passed by our house would immediately notice our roof. We have received numerous complements on it as well from our neighbors. It does make our house seem 10 years newer. Now for why they merit my 2-star rating. Our garage does not have a ceiling so one can directly see the underneath of the roof (when they ripped off the old roof we could directly see the sky). This also means that we could see the poor workmanship from underneath. There are many rows of 2-inch nails that missed the 2x4 they were supposed to be anchored to. It is like that arcade game, "missed it by that much", except in this case the roofer missed the 2X4 by 1-2 inches all the away across entire sections of the roof. I surmise that if I inspected our entire roof more carefully, not just from the top, that this might be a common occurrence. Most people can not see the underside of the roof and therefore would never know. Unfortunately, I can and do. The roof will not fall apart tomorrow but it should have been better built, given their 25 years of experience. We did mention this to Tom when he came to invoice us, and he offered to cut the pointing nails off. Perhaps the nails are just for show? We are lucky San Jose has nice weather most of the year. read more

These people are the real deal. Tom showed up at my house after I received 2 other quotes for a complete re-roof. Funds were tight and I let Tom know that up front. Tom came down from my roof and told me I still have a good 2-3 years left with my current roof. I was quite stunned when I heard this and admire his honesty and professionalism. A few days later he emailed me the quote and we proceeded with the work. The workers showed up today at the time discussed and got right to work. I am doing some work on my house as well and pointed out a couple areas where I saw loose flashing. The roofer went around and fixed every area I pointed out. I was very pleased with Winter Roofing and wholeheartedly recommend them. Not only were they considerably less expensive than the other companies I had bid the job, they were wonderful to work with. My roof was so old there were spots where the shingles had blown off. I was concerned there would be added charges for possible rot but that was not the case. My complaint is not with the initial service. I hired this company to do my roof and found the price and work to be unbeatable. This was 13 years ago. I recently had a leak that spread the length of 1 bedroom along the window and I called them on the warranty. I read more carefully and they didn't cover past 8 years. My estimate from them was near 1k for the repair ! My roofing material was a 30 years material, but, if it leaks, they'll charge you a lot to come out and fix it! Too bad! My old roof had 2 layers: wood shingle and wood shake. Winter Roofing removed the 2 layers and put on CertainTeed Presidential Shingle last April. I got several bids from other roof contractors and Winter Roofing was the most competitive, plus they have done a great job. I needed to remove an ugly structure from the old roof, other contractors either wasn't willing to do that or wanted to charge a ridiculous amount of money. Javier, the owner of Winter Roofing worked with me and removed/repaired that structure. My house looks so much better now. I had someone come out and give me an estimate for roof repairs on my rental home. The man who came out was very knowledgeable and pleasant. When he finished, he said give him a day or two for the estimate. Sounded good to me. A week went by and nothing. So I called the office and they said they would contact the man who came out and make sure the estimate was emailed to me. Great. Another 4-5 days went by and nothing from anyone and I called the office again, and the lady said that they had tried emailing me the estimate but it didn't go through. So, I told them that I'd email the office a "test" email, so they would have the correct email. Great she said. The next day I received an email from the man who came out stating that he was out in the field and he'd email me the estimate when he came back in. A couple more days went by, I emailed both the office and the man who came out that I was still waiting for the estimate. The next day, I received an email from the man who came out and he said he had been sick and that they were swamped and he said he told the office to tell me to find someone else because they were too swamped to help me. REALLY, is that the way to run a business. I understand being busy considering all the rains we've had; and I was told by other roofers that they were just too busy and not taking any more calls. I can respect that. I think a simple phone call from the office at the beginning of this fiasco to me, and I wouldn't be writing this review. read more
