Sherwood Ice Arena is our closest skating rink. The staff is pleasant, the ice is cold. My daughter has been doing lessons for the winter session and she's loving it. I think the lessons are pretty affordable but I think a 50 minute lesson would be better than 30 minutes. They barely get enough time with the 30 minutes. I like it here, but honestly, the costs are HIGH. $20 for open skate?!? Really? Then $7 for those skate along things?! That's a LOT!!! Maybe add time or bring costs down...just a suggestion!!

Hubby has been playing hockey here for 5 years on an adult league. They do offer open skate, learn to skate classes, hockey leagues and figure skating as well as birthday parties. The ice arena does have a beer garden that is open during all adult league games. I wish the snack bar was open at those times as well.

Not nearly enough tables for the amounts of people here. And have now spent 20 minutes in line at the concession stand.

Lots to see in the cabin and in the house. We particularly enjoyed the cabin, as it had many antique tools, and much antique kitchenware and furniture. We didn't see the inside of the jail. Nothing to see apparently, as it is just a wood blockhouse with a dirt floor, and only ever had one inmate. For one night. (His pig apparently escaped and did some damage to the neighbors' gardens). It would be helpful if there was a brochure with a map and description of the various collections. AAA discount available.

I visited two of the four buildings: 1) a spacious log cabin built as a tribute to the Pioneer Woman in 1931, later relocated up here to get out of harm's way from flooding. 2) the restored Newell House, built in 1852, on a hill above what was the town of Champoeg. When the town was destroyed in the flood of 1861, all 200 residents shared the house in the aftermath. The upstairs of the Newell House houses a display of actual evening gowns of Oregon's First Ladies from the beginning until 1992, quite interesting. Knowledgeable and friendly guides tailor the tours and stories to the visitor's interests. The grounds are pleasant and well-tended. All in all, a nice place to visit.

"$40" .. pays ... "thanks". I had no idea what to do or where to go so I walked back to the counter and asked. She explained it well enough and we found skates and taught ourselves how to put them on. Maybe everyone coming here are seasoned pros but it was a little off putting for a first impression. We were on the ice early and skated for an hour. The rink filled up pretty well but there was enough room for every one. Lots of different levels of skaters sharing the rink and bleacher type seats for spectators. Lockers are $0.50 - totally reasonable! All in all, we will be back! $20 includes skates ... nice location, especially now that I know the flow!

If you're here for the sport, the ice is always fantastic; consistently solid and well-maintained, which is clearly why the Winterhawks use it as their practice facility. However, the rest of the facility definitely shows its age. The stands are nice enough, though they are located on the far side from the entrance, making for a bit of a trek if you're carrying gear. The lobby isn't huge, and the locker rooms are a tight squeeze, especially if you have a full-roster adult hockey team trying to gear up at once. On the positive side, you can tell they are making an effort to modernize. The lobby, locker rooms, and bathrooms have been renovated, which is a huge improvement over how they used to be. The staff is also very friendly and helpful, whether you're there for a tournament or just a public skate. It's a classic, "old school" rink that has its quirks but remains a reliable staple for the local hockey community.
