Food is good, but was a little dry and could use some seasoning. Just my preference. I ordered the cabbage roll plate because that, to me, is quintessential Polish comfort food. It came with one large cabbage roll, two scoops of mashed potatoes, three cheese pierogi and fried cabbage. Everything was kind of one note and definitely needed salt and pepper at the very least. I thought the fried cabbage was unique. It was similar to sauerkraut in flavor, which I would have loved, but wasn't acidic enough for me. The sauce on the cabbage roll was the same as what was in the potatoes- which was fine because they were dry. But it meant the two main components of the dish were not very different in flavor. The cabbage roll was huge and stuffed to the brim. At first I wasn't sure it would be enough, but one is all you need to feel full at the end of the meal. Like I said, it was hearty, and there was a little sauce, but could have used more sauce or something because it tasted a little dry to me. My companions both ordered the sampler plate and didn't have the same issues. It was, however, a lot of food and they both had leftovers enough for another meal. The service was great, especially for as busy as it was. Our waitress was running ragged but managed to keep our drinks topped up and check in on us. She was a super star. I really liked the fresh interior, it's less chaotic than the old Applebees decor. It felt welcoming and comfortable. I would definitely come back. The restaurant is still new-ish and will probably go through a few changes as they get a feel for the traffic. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other menu offerings soon! read more

The restaurant is beautifully decorated. There is a full bar in the middle and table seating all around. The staff is nice. We ordered our drinks. When they arrived with rolls and butter, we ordered our meals. Three of us ordered salad (ranch, Balsamic vinegarette and French) and one ordered mushrooms soup. These were served rather quickly and were quite refreshing. Two ordered peirogis (half cheese/half meat and all cheese) , one Polish Plate and one Beef Goulash & Pancakes. Such a beautiful restaurant. The decor is very nice. The lighting is perfect for a nice dinner and great for sitting and talking during dinner. The staff is nice. We asked what was good on the menu and we ordered just that. We ordered the Polish Plate with Mushroom Soup, the Beef Goulash with a salad with French Dressing, a 1/2 cheese, 1/2 meet pierogi platter with a salad with ranch dressing and an all cheese pierogi platter with a salad and balsamic vinegarette dressing. My Polish friend Ewa invited me to be her guest for dinner at Wioletta's Polish kitchen. It was a frosty evening and I was looking forward to a heartwarming meal. It's amazing to see the transformation of the building from a former fast casual restaurant to a cultural and gastronomic experience. The ambience is both "homey" and modern. Window treatments evoke European lace without looking like you're at a grandma's house. White tablecloths bring old world finesse, and there's small decor artfully placed making it feel comfy but not fussy. The bar takes up the center of the room, and their wine, beer and cocktail menus are both fresh and "old school" pleasing everyone in your party. The service was excellent! Classy, with just enough hovering that you never had to wait for a new drink our glass of water. The menu looked great but my knowledge of polish food is minimal. Ewa suggested the combination plate for a little taste of everything! I had to order the Polish Martini. Slightly sweet and served in a cut crystal glass, it was a classy beginning to our meal. My food was amazing! Never tasted such delicious Polish sausage! The stuffed cabbage was my favorite, as well as the little pierogis. I couldn't finish it of course. We turned down dessert after releasing the top button on my jeans. Burp!!!!! Holy moly that was good! Great place to take the family for a celebration or date night. Polish food finally makes a return to the area!! Wiolettas recently opened in an old Applebees off Rawson and we were eager to check it out because we love their deli. The inside is bright and welcoming, with lovely pictures of Polish cities and a very cool metal art map. Menu wise, they've kept it simple (smart) with the classics - pierogies, goulash, etc. Entrees are roughly $15-25 and come with soup or salad. Polish people LOVE soup, for real. So get that - their homemade chicken soup is simple, comforting and very in line with what my grandma made. For a main, I had goulash with potato pancakes and it was delicious!!! The meat was super tender and the pancakes were really good - not overly greasy. It also came with a red cabbage salad (not generally my favorite) which is savory vs sweet. Two thumbs up. The mister had a pork shank which absolutely fell off the bone - served with a giant potato. Again - absolutely delicious! We were way too full for dessert as portions are generous but they have some homemade cakes. Full bar available with Polish beer and liqueurs at reasonable prices. Service was generally good but still finding their groove a bit. I love that this is truly a family operation - moms cooking, dads running food and the kids are hustling. We were told they've been hopping since they opened so consider a reservation. Two big thumbs up from me and no question we'll be back! read more

With the demise of some of the ethnic restaurants in Milwaukee (e.g., Greek-- Milwaukeeans think if you have Gyros, you have a Greek restaurant!), we are happy to have Wioletta's-- even if it's way South! We shared a Sampler Plate on Valentine's Day, forty people in the place 45 minutes after opening at 3:00! Great food, service, ambiance, price. While the dedication to Pork is very Polish, an occasional chicken dish (Kurczak w Sosie Pieczarkowym-chicken in mushroom sauce?) might be helpful for some of us who are not allowed to eat meats high in Potassium. I found the place on the map behind the bar from which four of my great-grandparents emigrated. Nice touch! read more

We arrived about 7 and were promptly seated. Rebecca was great in answering our questions and offered suggestions. We had the borscht and creamy mushroom for soups - both really good. We shared the sampler and the breaded pork chop. I had a few Polish beers since I wasn't driving. The entrees were great and Milwaukee sized. We shared a strawberry cake and honey wine for dessert - really good! I saw some comments about questionable service - we certainly didn't experience any issues in our visit. read more

We had a table of 16. The service was great. The server was very attentive & kept all the different orders straight. Everyone was very happy with their food. The presentation was nice and the taste was delicious!! The ambiance average. This is more of an adult restaurant, not that children are not allowed, but it has more of a "date night" vibe than a family restaurant. Couple things to note; there is a bar in the restaurant, however it was not open nor were you able to get a drink if you arrived early. There is no substitute for sides on an entree. What you see on the menu is what you receive. We will return to this restaurant to try different entrees!! read more

We just had dinner at this brand new (and only!) Polish restaurant in the Milwaukee area tonight for my Polish husband's birthday, and we were very impressed. The gracious atmosphere with new decor, table linens, sparkling silver and glassware was enhanced by no music being played, allowing diners to actually have conversations. Our server was excellent, and if she was not available, other servers checked in to make sure all was well. We both selected mushroom soup as our starter, and it had a rich creaminess with large pieces of meaty mushrooms and shell pasta and was served with rolls and butter. Excellent! For dinner, both of us opted for the Polish Plate - a sampler platter of a stuffed cabbage roll, hunter's stew, a rib, mashed potatoes, a Polish sausage, and three meat-filled pierogi. While the food was delicious, we agreed that the plates were a bit too small to be able to maneuver the food to cut it, and we also felt the sausage, while having a good flavor, seemed a little over cooked and dry and in need of possibly a good mustard to ward off the dryness. My husband's family has always lightly pan-fried pierogi (after boiling them) in butter for a bit of crunch and flavor enhancement; these pierogi left something to be desired by us. The desserts looked amazing but we passed, nor did we drink, but the Polish drinks sounded intriguing. We would definitely go back, especially for the cabbage rolls, hunter's stew and ribs. Absolutely delicious. By the way, at this time reservations are not available unless you have a party of 10 or more; knowing that, we arrived shortly before 4:30. The restaurant was quite crowded, but we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table, and our food came much more swiftly than we expected. read more

Dined at Wiolettas about 2 weeks ago and loved the food, service and overall feel of the place.

My experience here was kind of sad considering I had quite high expectations for this restaurant. When we came in, we were not even acknowledged by the hostess. We stood there for what felt like 10 minutes until she finally greeted us and then told us about the wait, which we were fine with. She did give the option of sitting and eating at the bar "if we could find a spot". We took her up on that and found 2 seats at the bar. Once seated, we were once again ignored for quite a while before the gentleman came and assisted us. We ordered drinks and food right away since we had found a menu further down on the bar. The food came and it was great. If this was only about the food it would be 5 stars. We were finished eating and waiting for our bill. Another 20 minute wait for the bill. I feel like our presence at the bar, after being told we could by the hostess, was a burden and we were very much the least important people in the place. Overall, personally I don't think I'll go back, but try it out, the food is very good. Just don't sit at the bar, wait for a table. read more

Ambiance - Great! You'd never know this place used to be an Applebee's. Complete visual transformation! So wonderful to have a Polish restaurant back in the area!! We both got a polish plate (ribs, pierogi, stuffed cabbage, hunter stew, potato of the day). Least favorite was the pierogi. They were boiled and just tasted like boiled flour. Goopy and missing the crispness & flavor that comes from pan frying & a toss in some browned butter. The highlight though is the cabbage roll. First - no rice for a filler like every other place. Just well seasoned ground pork. And the sauce!! That weird Campbell's tomato soupy sauce you get everywhere else? Not here! It was a sauce clearly made with stock and flavored well. I can't say how the food is because they "lost" my reservation. I called in a reservation for nine people and spoke with someone on three separate calls. When my party showed up, the hostess, who said she was also a manager, said there was no reservation for us. When I told her who I spoke to, she acknowledged that the woman worked there but said that that woman doesn't take reservations, so she didn't know why she told me she took my reservation. This manager wasn't very apologetic or accommodating. She suggested putting us at three separate tables but we just went somewhere else where we were treated better. IF I ever go back and have a better experience, I'll update my review. read more

Husband and I had dinner there last Tuesday. Right away was impressed with the great dinner rolls. Husband had goulash which he said was very good and a generous helping. I had cabbage roll, like a little meatloaf, in its own pan. Very good. We both had the mushroom soup so hearty and delicious. Our waitress was friendly and outgoing. First the good things. The service was very good, the food was really good, but then the bill came. Now for the not so good. We (2) do not drink alcoholic drinks, so we had soft drinks. We were charged for 3 sodas but there is only 2 of us. The server explained that since I drank Tonic Water there was a full price charge for a refill. I was not informed of this policy when requesting a refill. After that, we paid the bill and prepared to leave. At the hostess stand, we were asked if we enjoyed everything. We said "No". The hostess went to get the manager for us. We explained the situation and she explained that the Tonic doesn't come out of the fountain like other soft drinks, it comes out of a bottle. That makes it a Speciality Drink and no free refills are offered. They charge $4 a glass for a regular or Speciality soft drink. I think that is a bit expensive. The manager didn't offer any compensation for our experience and offered no sympathy for the server not explaining the policy to us before filling the refill request. Although we did enjoy the food this left us with a bad feeling toward the restaurant and we told the manager that. She didn't care either and walked away. A new restaurant starting out, especially a specialty restaurant, should do everything to make customers feel valued. This made us feel like they are penny pinching the customers to make ends meet. Will we go back there or recommend them? NO. Unfortunately when you upset customers and they don't come back or recommend your business, you go out of business.
