I went to Avli on a Friday night for dinner at 7PM with a few girlfriends and we had a great experience! We made a reservation and were seated right away outside. I couldn't get over how huge this place is!! And there's a cool city view from the patio. Some tables also include fire, in case it's chilly out. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. We started the night with cocktails and the spread trio, which we all loved! I really liked the Tirokafteri spread! For dinner I had the Solomos and it was full of flavor! I got the sauce on the side. The texture of the roasted salmon was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, it was perfect. I would definitely come back and I plan to! Nothing beats Milwaukee in the summer, especially when you find a patio with a view! The Greek inspired Avli supplied some delicious plates and drinks. A perfect lamb gyro plate and a side of fries, their pikilia trio of house spreads (we ordered 1. the classic hummus 2. tirokafteri made with feta, bell pepper, and chili flakes 3. Smoked salmon tarma), and the burrata appetizer tomato, peach, and onion. No meal is complete without a cocktail or two, featuring the spicy baba (papaya spicy marg) and the Persephone (gin, lavender, and lemon drink). I've been meaning to stop by Avli for a while! The location is absolutely beautiful and there is such a pretty view of the city! There is street parking, the business of which can be variable. The staff were all very nice and the servers are prompt, checking on us often. The spanakopita was my favorite thing and is definitely a must try! Ok the ambiance here is so great. It doesn't really feel like you're in Milwaukee. And the food is delicious, but maybe some dishes are over priced for what you get! We came on a really hot day and the host tried to seat us outside in the sun. We asked to sit at a table with an umbrella, which they obliged, but we should have asked to be seated inside because I think we both ended up with heat exhaustion. Post dated review: June 4th, 2026. First date night location after moving here from STL was a hit! We walked in (no reservations) they were able to seat us downstairs by the doors to outside in a huge booth for just my husband and I. Loved that! It was a little chilly outside so I was glad to be able to sit inside while also see the pretty flowers and nature. We also made it for some sort of small business Milwaukee dining event so I was able to get an appetizer, entree, and dessert package for I think around $20 ish? My husband order the Greek freak which was massive. All of the food was fresh and delicious. We took home our leftovers and made yummy meals of our own with them. Everything was great from start to finish. The staff was friendly and sat us indoors to stay in the A/C as it was a hot day. Came here for brunch as they have a $25 bottomless mimosa special. We had an absolutely wonderful experience at their Easter brunch buffet. Everything was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The cold station had a great variety of hummus and dips served with pita bread--my son loved it so much he ate thirteen pieces of pita! I'm usually not a big fan of raw oysters, but they looked so fresh that I decided to try them... and I couldn't stop eating them. They also had traditional Easter red eggs and egg salad, which was a nice touch. The hot food selection was very impressive as well, including freshly carved prime rib and ham, roasted lamb leg, and sausages. There were also breakfast favorites like French toast and scrambled eggs. Desserts were excellent too--cakes, fresh fruits, and yogurt rounded out the meal perfectly. The setting is just as lovely--the restaurant has an outdoor patio that would be especially enjoyable in the summer, with a great view of the city skyline. It's also a perfect spot for photos. Human nature is a powerful and mountain-moving force. Our instincts can be ever unforgiving, especially when it comes to the opportunity to grasp any sense of control over others. Sometimes one must give into the urge to control and find a spot to act out and listen to these beliefs. Avli Milwaukee is in an absolutely beautiful spot, looking over the whole city. Sitting on the beautiful balcony, I love the sense of control and the feeling of genuine grip I have over other people as they go along their days down below. You can see the dog park, and hear the whimpers of the young dogs as you eat delicious chicken souvlaki. The sparking greek lemonade is tremendous - the bubbles remind me of the lost fierceness that canines once had, as they are now shells of their past selves. They used to be wolves, howling at the moon through the blood of some prairie rat. Look at a little inbred french bulldog and consider how far dogs as a species have fallen. All in all, Avli is an amazing place and I would return any time. I miss Giannis Antetokounmpo. read more

First time I went I got the moussaka. So incredible, was warm and comforting and flavorful. Second time we went I got the chicken souvlaki- also incredible, the tzatziki is so good and the pita is perfectly salty. I got the teach me to dance cocktail and it was so delicious would get it again 3rd visit: Avli happy hour is such a great deal and so fun. The drinks are all great. The zucchini and eggplant chips we got weren't great- super greasy, and the amanites pasta also didn't have the best flavor. INCREDIBLE food, service...could use some improvement. I have been ordering take out from here the last few weeks after discovering this place but did not check it out in person until recently. The food is soooo delicious, fresh ingredients and has sincerely never disappointed every time I ordered from here. Any of their mushroom dishes has been so tasty, I truly cannot recommend the twisted mushroom enough!!! And I have never had such a good fresh fruit bowl, you can tell they invest in their ingredients!!! The tzatziki was phenomenal too, bread was nice and fresh too. If you want great food come here! The inside is decorated beautifully, a bit cramped in seating but the indoor/outdoor seating with the beautiful Milwaukee skyline is such a sight. The service like I said though was....something. As soon as we walked in the hostess' back was completely turned and she acted annoyed with US that we had to turn her around to seat us. Got some of the same behavior from our waiter who couldn't wait to get our order over with and only gave the friendly waiter spiel after we were getting up to leave. It's no secret why this place is highly rated. I had a great experience on my second visit to Avli! The ambiance alone is so enjoyable. They've done a great job making the restaurant both welcoming and calming. On my first visit I sat instead, but this time around I was able to enjoy the city skyline from their patio. My friends and I were greeted by a friendly server, who took great care of us. She quickly brought over the spicy margs we ordered which were delicious!! Definitely had a kick to them, but they weren't too sweet. Surprisingly, given their bright orange color. The menu here is set up for shareable plates, so we put in a few. My favorite had to be the kataifi shrimp. The dish came with four large, seasoned shrimp wrapped in a shredded filo dough in thin and crispy strips, served atop of a spicy thyme mayo. Great flavor and texture all around. We enjoyed the other menu items as well, including the trio platter with various spreads (tirokafteri was the best!), the yogurt marinated chicken skewers, and the simple and refreshing Greek salad. Tried this place for their brunch and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of unique breakfast style. I ordered shakshuka which was good but they didn't service any type of bread with it so I had to order pita separately to even have something to eat with. One of the best things I ate was the watermelon salad but it was so expensive for such little amount. I understand expensive places but it was not that fancy enough to charge this much so I think that needs to be changed. The outdoor seating is really nice for summer. read more

Returned for the third time. Complete chaos with the reservations now shared with management. We chose the Downtown Dining specials. The waitress was excellent. My chicken portion was huge, but my partner's shrimp portion was skimpy. The desserts could be more in the way of "Inspired Greek". A piece of baklava on a scoop of ice cream and two little cupcakes with frosting never met a Greek chef. Worst, and this is our second observation at AVLI, the room is not designed for conversation unless it's half full. If you want to visit on a busy night, choose another venue. Avli is a must-visit restaurant in Milwaukee! Don't expect gyros, think bigger with other Greek and Greek-inspired dishes like moussaka, chicken souvlaki and spanakopita. (Three of us ordered the moussaka and it was absolutely incredible.) When it comes to appetizers (mezze) make sure to order the Flaming Saganaki, which is a wedge with a citrus glaze set ablaze tableside for the table. It chars up and gives each sliver of cheese and incredible depth of flavor. The Spicy Baba drink was quite spicy, but the flavor was amazing and definitely worth the bite at the end. Don't skip the chocolate mosaic dessert, either! Avli has a small patio with views of the city from their overlook in the Brewer's Hill neighborhood. I went to Avli because of the Taste and Toast event going on. I quickly decided I will be coming back here often for happy hour! I had the A-Gouri drink and it was quite possibly the best cocktail I've ever had! It was so lite and refreshing from the muddled cucumbers! Yesterday was our third visit to Avli to celebrate some family birthdays. We arrived in time for Brunch but were offered the option to order drinks and wait a bit if we'd rather have the dinner menu. Our birthday celebrants chose dinner so we waited. The restaurant is comfortable and quiet. We had some fantastic apps. I highly recommend the tirokafteri, and the kataifi shrimp is to die for! and don't sleep on the flaming saganaki.... flaming cheese? YES! Around the table we had the chicken souvlaki, amanites pasta, lamb chops, greek salad, and the greek freak meatloaf burger. All were fantastic! So few greek restaurants in milwaukee and here's one right in downtown overseeing milwaukee river. It looks like they had a decent happy hour menu but we came right after it ended. We got a trio of spreads (hummus, tzatziki and melitzanosalata) and all 3 were great, but the eggplant one was by far the best! For main, I got the the lamb fournou and the lamb was cooked great but the sauce it came with was a little too salty for my taste. I love that their drinks were all greek-based, even the wines, which also meant I had no idea how dry/sweet/etc the wines were but I asked for the driest red and it was the perfect level. Our server overhead us talking about it being my friend's birthday today and kindly brought her an amazing pomegranate sorbet dessert that was absolutely stunning. I had gotten the Chicken Souvlaki that came with 2 skewers and some rice. The skewers were grilled nicely and had developed a nice crust to them, but still maintained a moist center. The chicken was seasoned well and had a nice lemon sauce on top to give it a nice contrast to the meat... wish i had more! Along with the citrus sauce, the fresh little vegetables helped to make it a light and refreshing meal. The rice was portioned well so I had some with every piece of chicken. Each bite was quite tasty, but the chicken was a little "chickeny", so there was a small aftertaste that I couldn't explain. My girlfriend got the Eggs Benedict and it was an interesting surprise. While I know not typically Greek, I had expected the flavors to be a bit more "Greek inspired". The barbecued beef had a sweet flavor like an American barbecue, but the plentiful amount was tasty with each bite. It was quite hearty with its potato base in place of an english muffin, so only 1 was eaten and the other saved for later. Along with the 2 benedicts, a side salad was served that helped to cut through the dense meal, however it was only some greens without any sort of dressing, so that portion was a bit lackluster. All in all, we left satisfied with our meal and enjoyed the fun interior. Our food was tasty and I would love to try the other brunch items - like their specials - and even come back for dinner for their main courses, appetizers, and of course dessert! We went to Avli for the first time Tuesday evening. They have very convenient and ample street parking. There is a beautiful and large outdoor patio, which is where we opted to sit, as the weather was beautiful. First we had an absolutely delicious appetizer- Tirokaftieri with pita. I had moussaka, which I had not had for a long time. This version of it was served in a round pan and was quite tasty. My companion had chicken souvlaki . My very first time coming to Avli and it was a great experience. The ambiance of the restaurant makes you feel like you're in Greece. The view of the city is beautiful. The service is fast and friendly. The waiters are very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. And the food? Amazing. The lamb chops were good and for the price of $39+. Our friends ordered the spread trio and Greek salad to start, both of which were extremely good. The salad ingredients were incredibly fresh and crisp, and the feta one of the best I've ever had. That includes in Greece! The spread trio was tasty, and the accompanying pita bread was soft and delicious. Each spread offered it's own unique flavor, yet they complimented each other quite nicely. For dinner, my husband ordered the Beef Pot Pie and I the Gemista. The pot pie arrived with an enormous puff pastry over the top which was golden brown, buttery and flaky. While the size looked overwhelming, underneath was a reasonably sized bowl of hot meat and veggies with rich flavor. The Gemista was savory and saucy, with the tomatoes and green pepper being extremely tender. Although I didn't ask, I believe they were broiled because of the nice, even char. There is no salt or pepper on the tables, so you will need to ask if you want them. Being a girl who likes her salt, I personally needed a little on my dish. However, I still enjoyed the flavors very much. If you aren't a drinker, or just want to try something non-alcoholic, I highly recommend the Fig Faux-Manhattan. I read a lot of great reviews about the Milwaukee location of Avli, inspired Greek. So, I grabbed my father and headed up to Brewer's Hill to see what the buzz was about. In my experience, Greek cuisine in the States varies from greasy late night gyro joints to high-end sit down restaurants. Avli is the latter. From the moment we walked in we knew the owners cared about the overall experience. The staff were delightful. The place was decked out in elegant mod. And it was perfectly lit (something other MKE places could learn from). However, the decor is never the reason I choose my establishments; it's the food. So, how was it, you might ask? Well, it was good. We started with some hummus and pita. The hummus just ok, nothing special. I had just had some world class hummus this weekend in Chicago's Cafe Istanbul, so the bar was mindblowingly high. It didn't hit that mark, but it was fine. Next up, the flaming saganaki. This was the typical fire show one would come to expect. The cheese was good, but not particularly memorable. My father had some Kataifi shrimp, something he hadn't ever tried in his life. He was rather pleased. I ordered spanakopita next. It also was fine, but not the best I've had. The filo was slightly browned and a tad bitter from the overcooking. The spinach was alright, but not as good as I've tasted in prior Greek experiences. We ended up having a chocolate, vanilla ice cream, pistachio dessert that was the highlight of my meal. So, in summary, it was good. I would go back and try other items on the menu owning to the atmosphere and kind staff. Stopped into Avli and was immediately struck by the stunning views (check out the pictures). I chose to sit in the bar area, where I was promptly greeted. I was provided with a menu and received some excellent food suggestions: the Spread Trio and Kataifi Shrimp. Both were dope recommendations and tasted amazing. The bartender Adam was also incredibly informative. My drink of choice was the Smoky Trellis, which I highly recommend. For those interested, happy hour runs from 3-6 pm on weekdays. However, keep note that bourbon cocktails are NOT available during happy hour at the time of this post. The service was outstanding--every staff member was not only attentive but also had a great sense of humor (I had more than a few laughs!). I really appreciate environments where the staff feel genuine and not robotic. I will definitely be returning. read more

One of my friends has a lisp, and the way staff treated her felt incredibly ableist and honestly humiliating. She ordered an espresso martini that was terrible, so the four of us each split it and she immediately ordered something else instead. She had only had that one drink order all night. When she went to order her second drink, she was abruptly cut off. Meanwhile, the restaurant was practically empty, we were calm and respectful, and there was absolutely no behavior that justified it. The whole interaction felt like assumptions were being made because of the way she speaks. It embarrassed her badly and honestly made the entire group uncomfortable. It's unfortunate because the kitchen and location are doing their job. Front-of-house service and staff judgment need serious work. read more

I have dined at this restaurant twice. The first time was in January 2024, and our group of three ordered a spread sampler (Tasrama, Tirokafteri and Tzatziki), two Meze dishes (Spanakopita and Kataifi Prawns), and a main dish (Moussaka). We liked both the sharable Meze dishes (particularly the prawns) and our main dish Moussaka, but we found the three spreads to be mediocre and lacking in flavor even though they sounded interesting and innovative. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and decided that this was a restaurant we would go back to. More recently, I went there with another group of three for lunch on a Friday, seated on deck outside and bathed in the warm sun. The lunch special looked good, and two of us ordered it with the Gyro Warp (1 with chicken and 1 with pork) and both enjoyed it. One of us was lactose intolerant and ordered the only dish on the menu that was marked DF and priced for less than $25, i.e., Chicken Riganati. The half chicken was very flavorful with crispy skin but too large for one person to consume, and the leftover was enough for another meal at home. It was again a very good meal. read more

I came here with a few friends for brunch after Wolfie's across the street quoted us a 1 hour 45 minute wait. Luckily, Avli was able to take us right away. The spot is beautiful, with an open air patio overlooking the city and inside space as well. There were a decent amount of other people there around 11:30 am on a Sunday, but still some open tables. We started with the pirikia (trio of spreads with pita) - all the spreads were tasty and the pita was great as well. We also split a bougasa strudel for the table, which was rich and delicious (reminded me of baklava). It took a while to bring out our entrees, but overall, the service was friendly. I got the zucchini frittata, which to my surprise, actually came served in n a cast-iron pan. It was a good size although thinner than what I would prefer for a frittata. It looked pretty, but the flavor was lacking, so I had to ask for salt and pepper. My friends' entrees looked better - they had good reports for the chicken gyro, breakfast sandwich, and agvolomeno soup. Overall, the place is a decent value price-wise and was friendly service and good views, but I wish the frittata was better and that the service was bit quicker. read more
