We have had eaten at Wire Mill BBQ several times and it's always really good. Our son loves the sausage that comes on a pretzel roll with home made chips. The BBQ, especially, the pulled pork sand which is very tasty. You definitely will not be disappointed. read more

The best BBQ I've had in Connecticut. Love the atmosphere, and they have pretty good wine and beer. I've eaten here a number of times, and always like the food. The pulled pork is my favorite and their sides are great. I've also just stopped by for drinks. Last night I just sat outside by the fire pit with a beautiful glass of red wine as I waited for my daughter who was at karate next store. The only complaint is that the quarters are pretty small when they don't have access to the outside patio. OK. This is the best BBQ I have had in CT and is right up there will the best places in NC. This is coming from a Carolina grad who lived there for 10 years eating at all the great spots. A fantastic BBQ joint with great entrees. What separates them from other BBQ I've had is the sides. They are not just an afterthought like most places. The full rack of baby backs was $28 so we knew we had gotten the Darien/New Canaan gouge. They were good though albeit just a tad warm, bordering on room temperature. The brisket sandwich was a bit dry, and the curly fries and cornbread were standard fare. The coconut cake dessert was tasty but unattractive. Eye appeal is half the experience for us. Service was inattentive and robotic by the two teens serving our meals. Also, the seats were far too low for the tables and thus not especially comfortable for short people. The service here was great and it was packed the night I went. I ordered the pulled chicken sliders and was expecting it to be seasoned and with sauce but they had an array of 3 sauces to add your own. I think it fell short of my expectations in terms of flavor and I also tried the brisket which was a bit fatty for my liking. Let's get started ...... nice decor and very friendly bartender and waitstaff we have been here at least 8-10 times I waited to write my review because so many BBQ places are inconsistent but let me tell you friends this place is legit from the drinks to the ribs, lamb chops, brisket, pulled pork or any of the sides ALL Delicious and very consistent. Went for lunch. Service was great. Food was fantastic. Little tip for those new to bbq, I find that a late lunch is usually the best time to go. I really really enjoyed this place. I want to give it 4.5 stars! We went on a Saturday afternoon after sitting across the street in the Lumberyard parking lot waiting for it to open. My fiance spotted WM and i glad she did! Great location,inside was cozy but didn't feel small and the staff were all amazingly friendly. I dig the chairs and corrugated metal walls. The outdoor fire pit is a good spot to wait for a table (we were seated right away). We had a few different things off of the menu and only one item was slightly underwhelming. Robins wings were amazingly smoked, they had flavor galore, no need for any sauce. I am a huge Dino BBQ fan and these wings were right on par with theirs. Definitely start with these. My fiance had Pokey's Smoked Pulled Pork sandwich, it has mac and cheese right on the sandwich and i have to say that it all mixed incredibly well, the pork was also amazing, she loved it, and i loved eating her leftovers that night. Next came my BB rib and brisket platter. The ribs were crazy good, almost like a gourmet thin cut of rib (it just might be the rack i got), not fatty or thick, almost glazed with smoke....amazing. I have had these ribs on my mind since. The brisket was my only culinary concern, it was somewhat under-flavored, I know brisket is tough to cook and not everything is going to be perfect every time, I'm not mad, it was still pretty good. I cant wait to go back and try the pulled chicken plates, sausage links....and of course more ribs and wings! It might sound weird but i felt really good after visiting this place. You should go.... The only slightly negative things i have to say about this place are the parking lot being so small and the lack of beers on tap. I'd love to see some local NEBCO beers or at least a few more craft options. Other than that, i will be going back probably sooner then I should :) read more

I completely agree with Ryan, who also gave 1 star. We have eaten here 1/2 dozen times as a family, but when my wife and I tried to go alone, and did not want to sit at the bar or in the middle of the room, they said it would be 15-20 minutes for a booth. Fine... we waited a little over 30 minutes, and a booth opened up just as "friends of the hostess" showed up...4 instead of a paltry to (us!). You guessed it! They got the booth, we got the shaft. NEVER, EVER AGAIN. Sorry guys, you have to have good food AND treat your clientele right, and you fail miserably on that front, and your food is just okay and doesn't make up for your favoritism. read more

Average BBQ at best. I ordered the brisket which was extremely dry. After hearing pretty good reviews of this place I was extreme disappointed in this establishment. As a BBQ fanatic the toughest thing to judge in a BBQ restruant is the brisket, and the brisket we ordered here was so incredibly dry and lacking flavor. The sides were okay but the service was awful. Our waitress never visited our table once our food was served, and considering BBQ is naturally very salty, I was amazed we weren't at the very least offered waters for the table. After eating here two times I would not recommend this place. The brisket had no flavor and the pulled pork my friend ordered was all fat. I've tried this plAce twice since the other BBQ place opened down the road and I do not plan on returning here. I've heard the pig roast on Thursdays are fun but from my personal experience this is not authentic BBQ. read more

Not worth the wait. Long wait with rude staff and fatty pork. That's not what I call good bbq We won't be back.

I'll start by saying that the staff and owners were very pleasant and welcoming. Unfortunately, the food was just okay. I typically gauge bbq places based on how well they handle their ribs and chicken (moist vs. dry, overly sauced etc.), their brisket (too fatty vs. lean etc.), and interesting sides. We were very disappointed to find out that they had already sold out of brisket so I can only speak to the chicken, ribs and sides. The common thread through our meal was that everything was too dry. The chicken was nicely smoked and seasoned but it was dry. The baby back ribs were not sauced (which is good ) but were also dry and the serving size (half rack) was very small and not at all meaty the way baby backs should be. We had the fried okra (good but not very flavorful and needed a dipping sauce), collards (too dry for my taste), and beans and rice (also very dry although there were a few tasty crunchy bits). Finally, our daughter ordered the kids pulled pork. It looked good (and moist enough) but a sizable chunk of her portion turned out to be a big hunk of fat with a few bits of meat attached. To sum it all up, the staff and owners were very pleasant, and for that reason we might go back to give it a second chance, however, we've definitely had much better BBQ. It's definitely worth the trip to drive up Route 22 (just over the state line in New York) to get the best bbq around at Big W's in Wingdale. read more

The tantalizing smell of BBQ cooking on a grill.. Lured us in as we were driving by.And the friendly staff made us feel welcomed. We had the combo platter of ribs, beef brisket and Mac cheese and sweet potato fries. The brisket was great and the choice of sauces was nice.. I tried the Wire Mill just after they opened. The sausage and ribs were dry. I figured they were working out the kinks of a new restaurant, so i decided to give them another try. The experience was much different the second time. They clearly know how to smoke, as the smoke ring was nearly 1/4" deep. That said, they will have to keep working on the temperature inside the smoker, as the ribs were just a tad dry (not overly, but something they can continue perfecting). The wings, which are par-smoked and then fried, were excellent and crisp. I enjoyed the beans, but the mac & cheese had little to no flavor. Overall, they offer good value for above average BBQ. read more

This a clean and welcoming place to visit. The aromas that fill the area around are very enticing. Staff is happy and friendly. I will need to try a couple more dishes to give a honest review. My husband brought my 2 sons there last Saturday night for dinner and received terrible service! They put their names on the list to be seated and because it was crowded went outside to wait. They were well within sight of the hostess and were not the only customers outside. After 30 minutes, they went inside to check, noting that people who came in after them were being seated. They found that their name was crossed off the list. When they questioned the hostess she said she called their name and when no one showed she crossed them off the list. I'm sorry, but if you see people outside waiting in the rain you should make an effort to call the name outside as well. We will never go there again. read more

Absolutely love this place. It deserves 5 stars and I hope it never closes. This is where I go when I want a big pile of meat. It's very similar to Hoodoo Brown right down the street. I like the atmosphere here a little bit more. They have an outdoor dining area and it's a bit more of a quieter location. The service is similar. The big difference that I have noticed is that everything at the Wire Mill BBQ is leaner. I prefer it this way. Oh yes of course it's got a bunch of fat but whenever I go to Hoodoo Brown there are times where I just have to cut off inches of pure fat. Maybe some like it that way. I don't know, but I don't. Wire Mill does a really nice job. The meat quality is high quality and the ribs come out very tender. Sauce selection is outstanding. The sides are all good, although some better than others. Overall, the food is excellent and the service friendly. Prices are very fair for an area that tends to take advantage of customers rather than offer value. Having recently tried Hoo Doo Brown BBQ in Ridgefield, I can say Wire Mill stands alone among high quality bbq joints in the area. read more

WOW! Born and raised in Texas, Wire Mill BBQ really brought me back to my roots. The staff is very friendly and is always checking in. The atmosphere is welcoming to all including children. The best way to describe their food is, it's the real deal. I cannot express in words how much my family and I enjoyed the ribs, brisket, pulled pork and smoked wings with a great cabernet to compliment the food. You will be seeing me back again. Can't wait!! The best BBQ in the local area. Although small, the atmosphere is great and I would take advantage of the outside seating on a nice day. The service is attentive and the ownership is very friendly. My only complaint is the splitting charge (seems a bit much for the prices they charge already), but certainly a minor one. read more
