This is such a cute throwback. It is a tiny candy store and kitchen in the back. Many styles of candy and Italian sodas not normally seen are available. Very sweet staff. It's pricey but worth it. A must stop from the road, we saw this place featured on the show on KPBS, "About San Diego" and this is a woman run business from her grandmother to her mother to her, the proud woman makes 75 to 100 (don't quote me) different chocolates. Fantastic chocolates and the selection is amazing. Brought to my dad as a Father's Day gift he loved his cherries and truffle. I gave a few pieces to my brother also. That is why a 4 and not a 5 rating. I bought a truffle with a yellow squiggle on top supposed and was told it was lemon and it was not. We were bummed. It is a small space when you walk in, the lady is nice, sweet. The coconut cluster to me was very sweet just needed some more coconut flavor but then again coconut has no flavor overall it was good, the cashew divinity was good just enough sweet to this one. Most of the chocolate is by weight and some are priced marked. Just be mindful to bring in low bills, you can use debit/credit cards they just charge a service fee only. "Sorry folks - WallyWorld's closed..." We have been here before and loved the licorice and other candies. We took a 51 minute drive from our house in SD to specifically go here. We went on a Thursday, which was one of their posted days open. We arrived at 11 and the place was locked up, secure and closed. No sign saying they were closed. No nothing. Since we made the drive, we decided to have a cocktail or two at Jacumba Hot Springs, to make our drive at least worth while. After cocktails, we drove past the shop, and this time, there was a hand written note on the front door saying they were closed Thursday and Friday. Do not drive out before calling them to ensure they are open - bad business to post your hours but not to be open during them. read more

They have a variety of chocolate covered creations and my favorite are their turtles because the chocolate dipped pecans actually look like turtles. Every time I come they always have a new creation which is exciting to try. I love dark chocolate and their dark chocolate is very good. They have both options for chocolate lovers milk chocolate and dark chocolate. They also have candy such as colorful rock candy lollipops and a variety of old fashioned soda pops. It's always such a treat to stop by for some yummy chocolate. They are opened right now during Covid-19 and only allow individuals with a face mask on and one person at a time since it's a small cottage. We are staying at the campground at Lake Morena and hubby saw a review from a previous RV'er who said it was a must to visit. We loved the drive there and the cottage was like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! The lady was so kind and helpful. Hubby got some chocolate dipped Oreos and the peanut butter fudge. He said both were excellent. I got some chocolate dipped sea foam, rocky road, white chocolate dipped cherries and one little piece of toffee. I will be making hubby take me back for more of that toffee!!! It melted in my mouth in a buttery chocolate bliss!!! I haven't tried the rest yet, but I have no doubt it will be delicious. read more

This little treasure is simply amazing. We have been buying candy here since our parents moved to California in 1959. This year 2020 they are celebrating their 100th year of the same family ownership, selling candy out of their little frame home. The reason they can make it .... even during this lockdown "Covid" year... in a remote tiny town on the edge of the Desert in East San Diego County... is simple. Absolutely fantastic quality chocolate and candy. All homemade with the best of ingredients... patience and love. We stopped in last Thursday while camping at Lake Morena and were out exploring and visiting places we hadn't seen in years. We drove over on Monday... they were closed and we wrote down their new hours... came back on Thursday with six other campers with us. It is not cheap.... and it is worth every penny... and more. We bought 1/2 pound milk chocolate almond buds, 1/4 pound milk chocolate cashew buds... and two almond turtles. Went out to the car and split a turtle while the others in our party shopped. We had already spent $38 and my wife took one taste of the turtle.... grinned at me and said "Honey why don't you run back in and get us four more turtles"... :-) Of course I did... and we've had chocolate every morning with our coffee since. If you are traveling on Interstate 8... East or West through East San Diego County.... get off and go south down to Boulevard. You can't miss it... there are signs.... but this is a destination quality suggestion. It is worth a drive out there to just enjoy excellence and a long tradition of it. Drove out to escape protective COVID Captivity. Had our masks with us. Gorgeous drive out Hwy 8 that took an hour or so from San Diego. Owner couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. So many different kinds of delicious candy. Told her we came because we saw the episode on her shop a few times on Ken Kramer's "About San Diego." We picked out a bunch of choices, she explained that they ship also and included a card. On Sunday, my husband wanted to take our new car out on a longish drive to break it in. I vaguely remembered a fudge shop out east someplace, so I looked this place up on Yelp. It's in Boulevard, about 50 miles outside of San Diego.You pass the Border Patrol checkpoint and you're like, how far is this place again? It is a heck of a long drive if you're not already going someplace out there-- like, if you were going to AZ, this would be a good stop. But if you have a couple hours and you're not doing anything, then why not go get fudge? We got peanut butter fudge, no nut fudge, salted caramel chocolates, vanilla caramels, and a small bag of malted rock candy (they look like multicolored real pebbles! we tricked our kids). It is a tad pricey-- we ended up paying $26 for the candy-- but I don't really go around pricing candy all the time, so it's probably a decent price. I mean, it was hard to determine how much it'd be beforehand, since I didn't see any fudge pricing signage and since they go by weight. Just don't be surprised is all I'm saying. They do take credit cards ( Visa and MC for sure; if you have Discover or AE you might want to call them first). read more

A very disappointing experience shopping for Valenetine's candy. I ended up with unattractive, overpriced boxes of mediocre candy for gifts! Nothing you would want to gift as a Valentine! They had a couple of attractive candy boxes on display, but I was told they were for display only - in other words "eye candy"! My candy was piled into small and very deep white cardboard bakery boxes. No prices were posted although they could have been easily marked on the tags that identify the candy. I had to ask what my total candy weighed to calculate what I was charged; I paid over $36 per pound! I have visited a wide array of candy shops globally and this shop ranks at the bottom of my experiences. It isn't uncommon for me to find the best global experience of something in my own corner of the world (San Diego and Los Angeles areas), and I was hoping that's what this shop would be since it has stood the test of time. read more
