Fun little breakfast spot in Vermont. We were just passing through. Great flavors and decent price!

My first time at Wit and Grit :)

I created an entire Yelp account to talk about the incredible food and people at Wit&Grit. The atmosphere of the place feels like home and one big loving family! I've never experienced such love, care, and generosity from a food establishment. Every person who eats as well as drinks tea is taken into consideration and treated equally. I love the place and highly recommend enjoying a bite of breakfast or lunch at this hidden gem in Randolph, Vermont! Oh, one last thing, definitely try their "Pump up the Yam" burrito; it's yamazing!

    Breakwich with sausage

My bf & I decided to take a detour on our way back to MA from VT for breakfast. I cannot stress this enough, the breakwich is worth the extra travel time. I took one bite & immediately tasted the garlic aioli which I couldn't stop talking about (literally every bite). I wish I had a side to go with the sandwich, not sure what but I was left wanting more food. So we ordered th blueberry pancakes. The restaurant is nice with a lot of space. Felt good to be in a cozy restaurant when it's freezing outside. Staff are wonderful. I'll probably take another detour the next time I'm in Vermont.

Definitely witty. Right off the bat. Haha, and my boyfriend and I laughed the whole time. We both ordered the "Burrito Got Back" and agreed, we could've ordered the smaller version of this burrito and still would've left feeling full and satisfied. ABSOLUTE DELICIOUS. Staff was super fun, sweet and accommodating. Definitely will be back!!

Really enjoyed the breakfast burrito (smaller one) and pile o taters. Also had a mimosa, which I loved! Thankful for the friendly bartender.

Proud Mary. To die for spice!! So darn good

Located in the heart of Randolph, VT. When we drove by the front, we thought it was closed. Pull around to the back and there is plenty of parking. Walking in you are greeted by a warm atmosphere and very friendly staff. The proud Mary is one of the best bloody Mary's I've had in a while. I like spice, and it had just enough. My husband and I enjoyed the parfait and the burrito bro. Excellent food, excellent service, friendly, welcoming atmosphere, you must stop here.

More than that, it compares very favorably against most lunch places I've ever been to, as well! Apparently, they are host to a few chefs from the New England School for Culinary Arts, or whatever the school is called. It shows. Day one: autumn harvest pasta with seasonal vegetables and a cider reduction. Say wha...? Day two: cream of onion soup with parsley oil and crab two ways. Okay, that's just insane. And so incredibly delicious! For breakfast, they have homemade granola and locally sourced yogurt with actual vanilla seeds. I was completely floored by the quality of the food. This was an incredible find, and I cannot wait to visit again in the future!

We finally decided to try out S&S and I found it good, but not worth the 5 stars everyone gives it pancakes = well cooked, round, pretty standard. don't get 4 pancakes unless you want be in a pancake induced coma. also, they put a literal small ice cream scoop size of butter on the pancakes. Only IHOP does that and it's way too much butter. If you are eating all of that butter, you might need an extra dose of lipitor. Toast = kind of boring S&S pancakes = kind of tasted like pancakes with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Home fries = those were good I was there with two 16-year olds who both thought the food was "mid". I did see a small girl sitting with plate in front of her that had a waffle with ice cream and whipped cream piled so high, that it was almost as tall as her. Her eyes were huge and she was trying to figure out where to start. That waffle looked pretty good and as I passed the table, her dad was leaning in to "help out and keep the plate clean". They sell a lot of baseball hats and t-shirts.

Made with love, the donuts are hand-crafted from organic flour nearby in Charlotte, VT. My wife and I enjoy the churro donuts, which are an amazing treat. The donut is the inspiration for the business name. It's a French crueler donut twisted into a textured halo (see pic), expertly fried and then lightly dusted with cinnamon and sugar. The first bite is heavenly. The crisp texture of the exterior and the light custard interior make for one of the most flavorful and euphoria inducing experiences. The light strands of the interior dough and the texture of the crisp fried exterior are a wonderful mouth-feel and "Mmmmm" inducing delight. The selection from behind the barista bar is more than just coffee. Selections range from espresso, to latte, to chai, as well as herbal teas for the "not coffee" inclined. I ordered an Americano (see pic), which Tay prepared with perfection. I added a shot of maple syrup for sweetness and sipped in satisfaction. The interior is still in need of decoration but for an opening day, that in no way detracts from the experience. The fanbase is strong with Twisted Halo. They sold out within the first hour and continued to bake to keep up with demand. It was great to see friends connecting with friends as they arrived, conversed, and parted ways, making this the ultimate social spot for a morning or post lunch coffee and donut. I would highly recommend a visit and to take a moment to savor the flavors of Twisted Halo.

Overall, we enjoyed the way's meandering charm, especially when we stumbled upon places like Sandy's Books and Bakery in Rochester, VT (which made me immediately think of you, Mercedes). Per the headline, Sandy's is a used bookstore with original, classic, 1960's and 70's era finds from Agatha Chrystie, Isaac Asimov, etc... newer books about foraging, mysticism, and other fun things; locally made candles, soaps, walking sticks, crocheted hats; and locally made food products in / adjoining the cafe. There are numerous rooms on two floors where you can take your time to slow down and enjoy a book. (Fiction, science fiction, horror and mystery are upstairs!) Cafe tables are set up in many of these semi-private reading rooms so you can enjoy a coffee or pastry alongside a good read. Places like this make me swoon and had we not been on the clock, I would've loved to browse for hours and hours. The setup certainly invites that, as do the friendly local patrons. Sadly, we had to peel our children away from smelling each and every homemade soap and candle, and from trying to fence with the beautiful, polished, natural wood walking sticks (pickaxes, our 8 year old called them), and get our food order to go so we could make our an appointment (for race ski sharpening ) in time. What we tried: - Broccoli and potato quiche, made with a gluten free tortilla crust -- delicious and homemade, with tender, custardy egg -- but undersalted by our standards and made with very little cheese. The eggs had an interesting and unexpected faint whiff of vanilla. - Roasted carrot and lentil soup -- soup made with small green lentils was conceptually great, but overly sweet and served with what could've been a wonderful bread roll, but one that was microwaved and inedibly rubbery as a result. We would've enjoyed diced carrots that had been cut smaller than these 2" slices, but that's a preference. - Apple cider donuts -- I'm sure these would've been amazing fresh out of the fryer, but sadly, these spheroids (not rings) of fried dough were dense, oily, and well past peak freshness (two or three days old?) on our Friday morning visit. - Morning glory muffin -- moist, not overly sweet, very good - Cafe au lait -- you're told to fill a mug with pre-made coffee from the dispenser and to come to the counter for the steamed / frothed milk, which was unexpected for me. The coffee on our visit was watery. Baked goods (including cookies of all sorts), looked so lavish and amazing that I'd come again to try other items, but really, it's the overall experience that charms. Food and drink may not be the winning components, but perhaps I don't mind when a bookstore is so darn welcoming and charming. Bookmarking for a return visit.
