Although Wofford is part of the Apple Hill Growers group, it's a few minutes of the beaten path (read less crowded and more laidback), so if you think you aren't on the right road, follow through and you won't be disappointed. Tasting room isn't that big but offers a unique and personal feel. The Hard Cider and 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon are amazing (we thus bought a case of each ) The expansive garden and magnificent views make it a complete experience. Highly recommended! read more

We've been going to most of the wineries and tasting rooms in the Apple Hill area for about 10 years now, and this was our first visit to Wofford. The Apple Hill area is unique because it is one of the few places you can have vineyards next to an apple orchard. This last weekend we decided to expand our samplings and visited Wofford. It is off the beaten path but well worth visiting. Debbie in the tasting room was welcoming, knowledgeable, and accommodating. As for the wine, it was really enjoyable. We purchased one of their blends and a bottle of port. We spoke with one of the winemakers briefly, and their wines are made with estate-grown grapes. As for the setting, not only is it scenic, it has a certain funky feel that we really enjoyed. And oh, they also produce a fine cider. We'll get that on our next visit. read more

Suck it in. The single lane road to this vineyard can be tight if meeting another SUV. But the tasting and view are well worth the trek. And so is tasting with the owner on Nevada Day. This Fresno State alum offers a discount on purchases on Nevada Day, so wear your pack colors. We had great conversation, ribbing and tasting here. The white wine ciders were a very interesting discovery and purchase. Enjoyed several reds. But missed the port, by a small window. I'll have to return in a month or so when the next release is made. Take the time, and maybe a glass out to the yard and enjoy the fabulous view for miles of the wooded and vines canyon. Picnic tables available. Way up high in the mountains with great 360 degree views, Wofford offers a unique outdoor tasting experience. They specialize in reds and red field blends and produce high quality age-worthy wines wines. Our visit included a choice of pulled chicken, grilled tri-tip or soy chorizo soft tacos to accompany their solid and interesting wine offerings. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed the vertical tasting of three years of their flagship Bordeaux style blend. read more

Located in the Apple Hill area around Placerville, Wofford Acres grows their grapes in an incredibly scenic setting, with rows of vines marching down the hill, and you perched atop the ridge looking out over the American River gorge. Coming here last year, we were able to drink in the spectacular scenery as well as some great wines. This time around, the view is as fantastic as ever, and the wines are even better! Their wines cover a nice range of styles, both red and white, with several estate grown exclusives as well as blends including grapes from other vineyards. Trust me, nothing beats pulling up on a summer or fall afternoon and enjoying a tasting flight or full glass while also drinking in the view. Speaking of flights, that seems to be by far the most popular thing to partake here, and at only $10 a head, you really can't beat it for the chance to taste some really excellent vintages. I should also add that the fee for a tasting is waived should you also purchase a bottle. What really set this visit apart, though, was the chance to get a bit of a behind the scenes peak at their operations, all for the cost of a donation to Breast Cancer charities. For a few bucks more, we got to see the working room while their vintner led us through a tasting of the same grapes from different years, at different stages of the wine making process. Certainly a fun and interesting experience, for sure. All through the tasting and tour, you can't help but also notice that the staff here are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and really do show how much they love what they're doing. As far as downsides go, there are only a couple visitors should be aware of, and they both relate to vehicles access. They are located at the end of a small country road, so be very careful and attentive when driving down it. Once you arrive, you may also find parking a little difficult if there are already a number of visitors there, so likewise just be patient and considerate when you select a spot. Apart from those little nitpicks, I really can't find anything to detract from such a wonderful location and business. I will certainly be making Wofford Acres a regular stop when I travel through this neck of the woods. Cheers! read more

I've learned over my years of wine tasting that the best vineyards are the ones where it takes a little effort to get to. Wofford Acres is definitely off the beaten path and yes, there's a single lane road leading to their property but once you get there, once you see it, you'll be glad you did! After a long morning of going from apple farm to apple farm, we grabbed lunch at one of the local farms and took it up to Wofford to sit and enjoy the view while sipping on some wine. They are currently only accepting a few reservations at a time so it was a welcome calm, peaceful stop. My kids could feel free to wander a bit on the grass and in the vineyard while I could still see them from my table. The gentleman owner (I think his name is Mike?) set up an umbrella at our table so we could have shade. We sat and enjoyed our lunch and a tasting flight of wine. Ann (the owner) talked us through our flight and gave us information about the grapes and harvest. When we asked questions about the wine making process, she was happy to give us information. She was warm and friendly. She was lovely to my children and even let them pick some grapes off the vine to try. I didn't feel any pressure at all to buy wine but of course we needed to get a couple bottles to take home with us! Stopping here was the perfect way to end the day at Apple Hill. We got to unwind from the crowds, enjoy our food with the most incredible view, and Ann took such great care of us! I highly recommend making a reservation and going to this vineyard! read more

I love this place. It is hard to beat the views and the wines from here. Nestled in the food hills overlooking a canyon of trees it is a great location. We came here to try their wine on our excursion out in apple hill totally worth it. Driving up they had set up their tasting outside so people could enjoy the view. Their variety of wines was extremely impressive. The ranged from light whites to more bold reds. The Idaho blend is a great table wine that compliments most dinners. Their Cabernet is full bodied and has amazing flavor. After trying some of their wines we headed inside to try their Syrah and also to participate in a tasting with the vineyard owner. Depending on the day you can donate 5 dollars for cancer research and go into the barrel room and try wine straight from the barrels. The owner explains the different ages of the wine that you try and the story of what happened the year that they were made. Since they had the fires a few years ago it affected the way the merlot tasted that year. Also we heard stories about the bears that like to come in and eat the grapes. It was fun to be able to learn more about the wine that we were tasting and the history behind the different years of them. The owner was super engaging and funny to talk to. Wash one of us walked away with a bottle or two. Very excited to open them up sometime and enjoy them. It is a fantastic location that has great wine. read more

Driving in takes a while and it's slow going at 10 mph! They offer 3 small pours FREE if you want. B. didn't even do that, but he did try 2 and picked one for a $5/glass. He enjoyed what he got. There's a nice North Canyon view worth taking a picture. One unisex bathroom you can use in the tasting room through a door and then to the Right. read more

We take our family photo at this breathtaking location every year. We go back almost 18 years to our first visit when the vineyard had different owners and name. Ann and her husband run the most customer service friendly tasting and hosting operation in the area. When you go there you feel like family. During the pandemic they opened safely and efficiently to offer distanced tastings and sales on one of the most amazing vistas known to mankind. The wine is as great as the view and it keeps getting better. We buy La Mancha every visit and sprinkle in cider, desert wine, rose, and merlot. We enjoy trying the new and familiar varieties with our quick catchup with Ann and her family. Go often. It's like "Cheers". They always know your name and make you feel welcome. read more

This is by far the most beautiful site in Apple Hill! It's a little trek up a dirt road to get there, but it's worth it. The wines are good and reasonably priced and the tasting is free, but the highlight here is the friendly staff and owner, and the gorgeous hill top view. They also are involved in cancer charity events, both for breast and prostate. Tip: get here EARLY. If you can get the place to yourself (or close to it), it's a wonderful experience. But it gets very crowded, which takes away from the beauty! read more

We tried 3 wineries when we visited Apple Hill the other day and this was by far my favorite of the 3. It is less impacted than the other two we visited probably because it is more out of the way on top of a hill. It is small though so when a group finally does find it, it is crowded. This was homiest and friendliest of the 3 wineries we visited. The view off the hill cannot be beat. It is gorgeous. It was neat to see the vines with fruit hanging off of them. Some of it had been picked and was waiting for pick-up, which happened quite often as the owner whizzed by on his ATV. We could see people in the back taking the grapes he had just delivered and running them through a press. Not only was the ambiance great here, but the wines were also decent. They started us off with a wonderful apple cider made from local apples and then went through a flight of whites and reds. The wines weren't mind blowing, but they were decent enough to merit buying a bottle (which did not happen at the other two wineries). Highly recommend for the owners, the view and ambiance, and the wine. read more

My friend and I stopped here while checking out Apple Hill and ended up spending most of our time at the vineyard instead of picking apples. Ha ha! This has to be one of the most comfortable, homey feeling, wineries I've visited. Wine tasting was underneath the big tree overlooking the mountains and canyons. It was so beautiful and added to the experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all our questions. We choose to do an extra little tour and it was worth it. I ended up buying a bottle of their South Fork Hard Cider, bubbly and reminds me of champagne. Super yummy. All their wines were good and full of flavors. Next time I would like to take a picnic and enjoy a full glass of wine while taking in the beautiful surrounding views.. read more

Everything is great. Wofford is tucked away at the top of a hill in apple hill and worth the trip. The winemaker is fantastic, as is his wine. His wife is the tasting room manager and she is wonderful and so pleasurable to talk to as you taste her wine- with no pressure to enjoy it (although I always do) The view is beautiful and Ann in the tasting room usually pours you a big glass of whatever you liked best to take out and enjoy overlooking a stunning view. Wofford serves white and red blends (good cab, good syrah, and a couple of unique blends that are fun and very well done by a great wine maker). Check it out!! read more

At this point, I'm really wondering how I haven't reviewed this place before! I LOVE Wofford Acres. It's definitely one of my favorite spots on the Apple Hill Winery loop (tied with Jodar). They offer a great (free) wine tasting with a slew of whites and reds plus a hard apple cider and a rose. The staff is amazing -- knowledgable, friendly and clearly passionate about what they're doing. You can definitely sense that they like *educating* people about wine and they do a great job at it! The views are really great here, too, and they have a bunch of tables out on the hilltop to take in the scenery. All in all, amazing spot. It's easy to miss since it's a bit off the main path, but it's definitely one to put on your agenda -- awesome place! Well done, Wofford! read more

Normally a solid winery, but we purchase a bottle of 2015 Gewürztraminer Dulcinea last trip. We opened the bottle today and it smelt like vinegar. One sip and we had to trash it :( It was definitely expired. It was from their wine club also, which made us feel privileged. read more

As good a it gets! We have been coming to Wofford Acres for so many years and it is always a treat. Left the heat of PV for a bit and had a picnic at the tables with their lovely "picnic pours". Wines are great and the cider is awesome...could be consumed by the gallon if you are not careful...my favorite is the La Mancha - so yummy with lamb. You will find the tasting room to be a tiny chalet supplying one of the most rich cabernet sauvignons in El Dorado County. We had such a fantastic time meeting the wine makers and tasting all they offered on that particular day. The absolute rudest wine tasting experience I've ever known HANDS DOWN. We have come here on two occasions, approx 7 years apart and I will have to give a star for consistency....consistently abrasive and rude. The demeanor of the older woman we've encountered running the tasting room is better served in a biker bar than a winery sales floor. This theme will continue and seems well supported as you leave the property with the stacks of empty beer cases, trash and junk piled on what could be a beautiful porch to your left - proving this attitude comes from the top and isn't changing anytime soon. It's a beautiful drive out to this winery and the setting is amazing - you are way off the beaten path - and so worth it!! Some very good wine - I took a couple bottles home today, but the star is the cider! Bottle aged apple cider - really it's apple champagne!! Off the chart good!! I took a case of that home! Was here for the Barrel Tasting 2011 and was bowled over with the fantastic prices and the best whites on the trip.
