I ordered the Kung Pao chicken with fried rice and paid for the delivery since I don't have a car right now. They forgot the rice, and when I called them they told me they couldn't come back out with the missing rice! They offered me a future credit or I could come get the rice myself. Even when I explained that I didn't have a car I was told that was all that they could offer, because the delivery driver had other deliveries to take care of. So basically I was SOL because the kitchen and the delivery driver didn't double-check the order. So all I had to eat was the Kung Pao, which was bland, and most of the sauce had spilled out into the plastic bag. This was my first and last time at Wok and Roll. read more

We have been here a few times since the renovation complete re-open. Decor is VERY nicely done, spacious, comfortable and immaculate restrooms which are high on my need list in a good eatery. They certainly put some money back into the business. Modern wireless order taking and bill settle, waterfall and all new furnishings. Definitely enjoyed our sushi selections. Seriously the masterpiece here and value for the money is either crispy duck or Peking duck. Just WOW is all I can say. Many places you need order this ahead of time. I ordered a 1/2 crispy duck for $15...incredibly good and value added. Geez a whole duck at H-E-B uncooked is $29 and up. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely be back so we can take them to my coveting 5 star Dog Father's rating! read more

The last time we called about the order with missing items we asked if they would just bring it (since they have delivery and it was their fault they left the items out) and they declined. Update: I had to go back to the restaurant but they did refund the dish. I just ordered the fried tofu specialty and couldn't eat it. Firstly, they sent a chicken egg roll instead of the veggie roll that came with my dish (I'm a vegetarian) so I had to throw it away. Secondly, the tofu was silken, not firm, so it was slimy and fell apart when touched. Thirdly, the most egregious offense was the flavor of the tofu dish. It was so unbearably sugary I couldn't eat it. I'll never come here again for the other dishes unless I get a refund for my meal. read more

I went to Wok & Roll for the first time and was disgusted by their unprofessional business practices during this pandemic crisis. Not did none of their employees have on any sort of Ppe or mask, they added a fee for curbside pick up(which is the only option). People are in the middle of one of the worst financial states this country has ever seen which will probably be worse than the Great Depression and they are adding unsolicited extra fees! I regret the nice tip I left the person who brought me my food yet I'm sure they are not seeing the "curbside fee". At the very least they could tell you up front instead of virtually stealing this money from every customer they have. Needless to say I will not be back! read more

We had the best experience here tonight for our daughters 13th birthday. We didn't think they were open cause the open sign was off. However it was because the whole block lost power :(. They still invited us in with open arms. The waitress was the nicest I've ever had! They brought candles around for us to eat in candlelight so it made it even more special! We had spent a whole day at SeaWorld so we were starving! The food was so delicious and we eat a lot of Asian food! (My son in law is from Vietnam and his dad was a cook there and cooks for us often in iowa) every dish we had was superb! They did have to close because after an hour the power still had not come on. We stopped in last night after a day at the lake, the service was severely lacking. I do understand that when you come in to a restaurant on a holiday, you may have to wait longer than usual because they may be busy or whatknot. I get it. I arrived at roughly 5:00 pm and wanted to order food to go, the female server who was standing up there when I asked if I could give my order to her, looked at me like I was mentally challenged and said "I don't do that" and continued to ignore me. Around 5:10 I finally input my order to a girl dressed in a t-shirt and sweats said that she'd put my order in right away. (Maybe uniforms aren't a thing here) I ordered Chicken lo mein, jalapeno chicken, beef and broccoli, kung pao chicken, and an order of crab rangoons for me and my family. I waited...and waited....and waited...Finally at about 5:40 I felt like I've been patient enough and finally asked the girl who "didn't do that" what was taking so long. From my perspective there were 2 delivery drivers sitting in the sushi/bar area doing nothing, 2 servers who were doing side work, and only 2 tables in the restaurant who already had food. "I don't do that" told me that they were bagging my food and that it would be out shortly. I was finally able to drive home with my food around 5:45, frustrated and hungry. On to the food, nothing to write home about. The lo mein was very bland. There was very little flavor to it if any. There was very little chicken in any of the food, but loads of peppers and everything else. We've been here before and were happy the last time. This trip was very disappointing between the poor service and extremely long wait. If we come back, it likely won't ever be to go. read more

This was our first time visiting this establishment. The food was great, the business was clean. We got the gyoza's, tiger eye roll, crunchy roll, Alaskan roll and an egg roll. The rolls were good and tasted fresh. The reason for the three stars was only for the service and this is why we won't be coming back. We went into the business to eat dinner at 5:30 PM. We left at 7 PM. It was only two of us and a toddler. We did the endless sushi. At any given time, there was only 2-3 other tables within the establishment. Business was slow. Our waiter was terrible. We ordered our first two rolls and gyozas and sat for 30 minutes waiting, while our toddler had already finished her meal that came out ASAP. The waiter came up to ask if we wanted anything else and we had to remind him we hadn't even received our first order yet. As we watched it sit on the sushi chef's table the entire time and he rang the bell to get someone's attention to deliver it twice. As we sat directly across from the chef and just waited. Finally, we get our food and we go ahead and place an order for our third roll and the egg rolls. Another 30 goes by, we had to remind the waiter three times we ordered an egg roll for each of us as he asked if we needed anything else. He kept forgetting. Finally, he brings out one egg roll. Totally forgets the other. At this point, we had a restless toddler who had finished eating nearly an hour before and we were ready to go. We got one more roll, watched this one sit forever on the sushi chef counter as well. The staff needs to be more attentive and if the sushi chef sees food he prepared sitting for 10+ minutes he should be hounding staff as well to get it together instead of just ringing a bell several times and hoping someone finally see's it. Food was good - but the 1 1/2 hour meal time inside a slow restaurant won't be bringing us back. read more

My grandson wanted sushi for his 10th birthday and this place was a good middle point between their house and ours. This place had decent ratings so we thought we would give it a try. My chicken and broccoli was not very good at all, the chicken had a definite wang to it so I only ate the broccoli. My grandson said his sushi was fair, my wife said her shrimp fried rice was fair, the shrimp had no flavor and my son and his wife had the orange chicken and they said it was just fair. The egg rolls were good and the fried dumplings were okay. Service was good, but the tables were incredibly sticky. I believe the varnish was coming off and this was the cause. Writing this because all the negative reviews about this place made me want to stay away from here for so long. I finally made a visit in, and I'm glad I did. The food was really good. It came out really fast and fresh and our server was really helpful and sweet. Not only was our server attending us, but multiple people checked in on us throughout our meal. WILL NEVER GO BACK. Haven't been here since 2019 due to issues with our food and decided to give them another try. BAD IDEA. We wanted the Hawaiian fried rice and asked them if they had all the things necessary to make it since it was an issue before. We were told yes that they had everything to make it. Food starts to come out and the fried rice was missing items, we notified staff and they said they would fix it no problem. Come back a minute later to tell us the kitchen told them they were out of the items needed to make it complete. We asked for them to remove it from our bill and continued to eat the food we already received. My Husband was annoyed especially since he asked BEFORE we ordered and were told it was all available.This is where it gets crazy. The waiter walks by and asks if we're still eating or if we need to go boxes. My Husband says we need boxes cuz we're more than f***ing done with this place, (not even loudly to where others could hear, just loud enough for the waiter to hear) the guy says "oh OK, f***ING done" comes back with to go boxes and THROWS each box piece by piece at us and on top of our leftover food! My Husband was shocked that the guy was throwing things at us and then it gets even worse, the guy tells us to pay our bill (which he tried to snatch my card from my hand and I'd not even seen a bill yet so I'm not about to blindly pay a bill I've not seen) and tells us to get the f*** out and that he's going to kick my Husband's a** to which my Husband replies is that a threat?? And the guy looks at my Husband and says "let's go!!" To which my Husband stood up cuz he's not about to be threatened and then the guy RUNS towards the kitchen yelling for them to call the cops... we just grabbed the to go box pieces from all over the table grabbed our food and walked towards the door.. the whole time the guy is following us from a distance making rude comments and trying to incite my Husband to fight him and the staff he'd grabbed from the kitchen to back him up. It was beyond ridiculous the way he was acting and how he threatened my Husband and throwing things at us like a small child throwing a tantrum. And according to him he was the owner... can't say I could support a place where the "owner" acts that way over a disgruntled customer. read more

I like the food here and the huge menu. They have sushi, standard lunch menu, not so standard specials such as peking duck, crispy prawns for appetizers, and add on California rolls for $1, and miso soup as one of the house soups.. The owner greets you as you leave, asking how you like your meal. I got the crispy mandarin shrimp with sauce on the side. All sauces are served on the side here, so the dishes aren't too saturated. For starters, I got the free miso soup with a Yelp checkin, which is nice. My large shrimp were perfectly fried and battered in a very light coating. I asked for a less than sweet mandarin sauce and that's how it came out. The shrimp sat on uncooked cabbage, which I mixed with my fried rice for texture. The crab rangoon was good but a little overdone. The fried rice was not memorable and was dry and brittle and not much flavor, although, others have liked their fried rice. I would get steamed if you are getting the lunch special and not a special to order fried rice. They have a lot of Chinese authentic dishes here and some Vietnamese inspired dishes. I am weird about Chinese food and where I eat it at, however this place literally shocked me ! I was expecting a tiny little restaurant that would be mediocre. I walked in and the place was so nice ! Everything was updated and someone immediately came to us to sit us down. They give you cans for your soda which I prefer over the fountain drinks. We started off with their edamame and it was delicious! The sesame chicken was perfectly cooked and tasted too dang awesome. Everything about this place was great. I really enjoy dining in here. My family has different preferences within the asian style cuisine which means there's something for everyone. I like to try new sushi options but the bigger named restaurants are very highly priced. Wok & Roll has great prices. I love sushi and spicy style entrées, they prefer the straight forward beef or chicken entrées with fried rice and a lot less spice. The restaurant is cozy, the fish tank in the front doesn't put off any smells which is great. The prices are very fair given the San Marcos demographic. I usually drop by for dinner and I would really like to try the lunch options so I can sit at the Sushi bar. I'll be back again, hopefully soon. read more

This was once my favorite place in town to buy matcha ice cream, Thai tea and eat great Chinese food but today I went to Wok n Roll for a to-go lunch and as I'm finishing my Thai tea (in a Styrofoam to-go cup) at home, I started to notice a bunch of black bits near the bottom of the drink. I was in San Marcos on business and decided to order dinner from Wok & Roll, based on Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed. The food was good. The service was excellent. If you've not read my Yelp reviews, I typically review from the perspective of the hungry traveler. Please, read on... Hot & Sour Soup Nice dark brown color and medium thickness. This is what I look for in this hearty Americanized Chinese soup. There are plenty of soft strands of egg and a few slices of tofu and black mushrooms. But I see no pork, as is custom in this soup. Also, red pepper flakes are few and far between. Sure enough, the soup is more sour than it is hot. In fact, it's a little too much on the vinegar side for me. But, it does taste like they started out with chicken stock (so many places start out with water). I can tell by the slightly sweet tang that they use traditional soy sauce, opposed to the $70-per-gallon mushroom soy sauce used by places with (better) soup. Still, not bad. Just not great. I bought the medium size and finished it. Egg Roll Wok & Roll serves one complimentary egg roll with every meal. I asked the lady at the counter whether these were rolled in-house. She hesitated, then said yes. After looking at it and tasting it, I find that these taste very much like the ones rolled for the frozen food section of Sam's Wholesale Club. They are flute-like in appearance and are heavy on the cabbage and black pepper. Not bad. Just very institutional. Main Dish I asked about eggplant dishes, and they had no eggplant this day. Fine. So I ordered the Sizzling Beef & Scallop. I asked that it be made extra spicy. First, the dish is beautiful. The broccoli and carrots are brightly colored, and that tells me my mother in-law didn't cook this. I also see chunks of water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, slivers of celery and those cute little corns on the cob. Furthermore, I see red peppers. But, the beef is very light in color. Could this be pork? Honestly? After tasting it, the meat in this dish could very well could be pork, which is fine. Either way, it's spicy. Very spicy. The vegetables, which also include a few snow peas and slices of cabbage, are tender crisp. All four medium-sized scallops in this dish were cooked just about to perfection. They were tender and melted in my mouth. Again, when I said 'extra spicy,' they took me at my word. I really enjoy a spicy Chinese dish. The white rice tastes somewhat institutional. When I say that, I mean it tastes like it was prepared in a school cafeteria. Ah, well. Bottom line: This is decent Chinese food. But, despite what Wok & Roll advertises, it's not exactly authentic. It's their version authentic Americanized Chinese food. I'd eat it again, but it's not the best I've ever had. As a sidenote: The sushi chef seemed to be doing a bang-up business while I was waiting on my to-go order. Everyone who came into the restaurant seemed to want his sushi. read more
