CHINESE FOOD FROM THE MINGY DYNASTY *** WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE? *** Don't order food from here if you would like condiments, chopsticks, or utensils with your food. And especially if you want service with any semblance of a smile, don't bother. You won't find that here. I don't usually spend my precious time writing bad business reviews. But when I do, you better believe it's because I have exhausted all other options and strongly feel the business should experience some form of repercussion for their shortcoming. As someone who manages the online reviews for the office I work for, I do go out of my way to post positive reviews and always try to resolve an issue with a business in multiple ways before posting a bad review. All of which I have done with Walk Out Chinese Takeout on Belcher. I buy purchase takeout from them at least twice a month. I also usually spend, on average, $50 at each visit, tip aside. This average doesn't include late nights at work or lunch zooms with coworkers, to which I always recommend getting takeout from Wok Out. That will never happen again. I don't consider myself a greedy or wasteful person. But I do expect more than 2 packets of soy sauce with a quart of fried rice, and getting more than that is an argument EVERY TIME! No consideration is given by the staff/management that I do not waste their food/condiments either. For example, I do not eat the sauce that comes with the Crab Rangoon and Sweet and Sour Chicken. When I order these menu items, I tell them I don't need the sauce and not to waste it on me. Instead, I eat them with Duck Sauce - yet I can't get 3 duck sauce packets for TWELVE crab Rangoon? I just left after purchasing a quart of house-fried rice and being outright REFUSED any additional soy sauce. I even offered to PAY FOR IT, so I could eat as I wanted (which I don't consider an outlandish request). Even after I attempted to BUY what I wanted, the lady snapped at me, "You only get quart; you don't get more,". Usually, I would laugh at this - while I had a soup nazi or an SNL skit flashback. But it happens every, every, single time with this old lady, and it's just bad business. I assume she is the owner, as the younger staff usually sheepishly extend me a couple of extra packets after looking over the shoulders a few times. I have had many conversations over the phone and face-to-face, trying to come to some middle ground - with no success. So if you're ok with being yelled at, told you can't have what you paid for the way you want it, and paying top dollar for it, this is your place! Otherwise, please don't waste your time as I have for FIVE years. Such a shame to let a loyal customer go over a few packets of soy sauce. *** I won't even go into the food poisoning I am 100% sure I got from an order a couple weeks ago. Happenstance. We were staying at a friend's condo and they had a menu here. Totally worth trying! Some of the better Chinese food we've had in awhile. We called up and had a pretty basic order. They said it would be ready in 10 minutes. We got there in about 15 and the food was still nice and hot. Veggies were crisp, chicken was cooked nicely and had some nice spice to it. Next time, I'll ask them to kick it up a bit. But out of the gate, it had a little kick which was nice. Great place for takeout if you are in the area! First time here and delivered...had I WOKed in, I'd have WOKed out myself! They said 45 minutes for delivery. Yeah ok, turned out to be more like an hour. Driver came and the bag was saturated from where the soup had leaked - everywhere! Started serving the food and our rice that we ordered "extra dark" was light yellow in color and mushy. Crab Rangoon - um, what crab?? I saw no pieces or even flakes and the outside was so thick and not crisp. Singapore mei fun that we ordered extra spicy - ha! Spice?? Where?? Not to mention that the usual curry taste in this dish was BARELY present. Ugh- we spent $36 on this order and we can assure you...never again! It is quite sad to post this because I have been eating from here since it opened (several or almost four decades). Before I ordered, I had seen some scathing reviews, but had never had any issues with their food. Food arrived. My son ordered General Tso's chicken. Usually it comes with steamed rice. Nope. I ordered egg rolls and a pint of hot and sour soup. The soup was always good, but it tastes like someone dumped a gallon of salt into the pot. It used to always be consistent forever. I can barely get through my bowl. I don't think I will ever order from them again which is very disappointing since I have been ordering from them since they first opened many years ago. Wanting to try a new Chinese take-away, we decided to try this place. The owner's family was studying and video gaming on one of the two tables in this small space. We ordered the House Special Lo Mein, Moo Shu Pork and the Kung Po Shrimp. The food arrived promptly. The Lo Mein was dry and missing 90% of the ingredients that would make it the "House Special." It was flavorless. The Moo Shu Pork came with sufficient pancakes that were nicely pliable, however, the dish was a mushy, old vegetable mess with no crunchy veggies or ample pork. Awful! The Kung Po Shirimp looked great but, sadly, it was also flavorless. The shrimp were firm but didn't taste like shrimp. A bag of fried dough came with our bag. I don't know what they were but my partner was brave enough to try one and then made a frowny face. ;-( I hope that they were just having a bad day. However, this was the worst Chinese food we can ever remember having. Ever. Their menu price-points were much higher than comparable Chinese restaurants in the area. . Eek!! This place is not good at all. We had a delivery order of two lunch meals and an appetizer. The order came about in 35-40 min. Their fried rice is so plain. The sesame chicken was so bad...the chicken itself is so small but they covered with tons of batter...I was literally eating just fried batter drenched in sauce. So gross. The appetizer crab rangon was yucky too. Our order was supposed to come with two egg rolls but they never gave us. We got the Krab Rangoon, it was all cream cheese and very little, it was also folded like a chip. Got the orange beef but it was encase in ineligible breading, about 90% of it? Removing the beef, it was semi edible but extremely low quality even for low quality beef. Also got the lemon chicken, it was comparable to other places but one of the worst I've had. We ordered delivery on a Sunday and it was super fast. I don't understand why Yelp reviews shows them as only 3 stars. I do not agree. They are one of the best and most reasonably priced Chinese restaurants in Pinellas (I used to live in St. Pete so I've tried quite a few). Even though it was lunchtime, the portions were dinner size and arrived piping hot. We had leftovers for reheating later. I have a food allergy to nightshade vegetables and they accommodated my request perfectly. The girl at the front was short and not particularly personable but doesn't bother me that much since I'm just taking out. Also they don't take Amex just so you know. Overall the food was as can be expected at any more or less generic take out Chinese restaurant. If you wanting to go out to sit down and have nice Chinese just head up to country side and go to Chopsticks. If you just wanna be lazy and eat at home is say this place so far is the better choice in south clearwater. Might give 4 stars if I next time I come I'm not treating indignantly. I was surprised by the number of bad reviews. My mother-in-law lives not far away, and we visit on a regular basis. About every two months she'll get the hungries for Chinese food so we'll order carry-out from Wok-Out. No matter what we order, the answer is the same; "Ready in 15 minutes" We've tried many of the menu items, but after doing this for several years, we typically order moo goo gai pan for "mom", pork with hot garlic sauce for me, shrimp with hot garlic sauce for my wife, plus a large order of veggie fried rice and an order of chicken on a stick. It's certainly not fancy, but after we narrowed down our menu choices, it's always been good, and we'll continue to go there. If someone isn't into Chinese, there's a Greek place right next door, so something for everyone! read more

Pretty good; not the best food, for the price excellent. I've ordered a few times from them and Sweet and Sour Chicken was great. Seems like a family ran restaurant and they are friendly enough. Honestly the prices are really good for ~$5.50 a small portion for most the small portion is enough for a full meal. Noodles were good and so was rice, white rice was good when mixed with soy sauce or something. The shrimp isn't the best, but not bad. They have $10 delivery minimum, which for a single person there is no way to eat that much food. Delivery time when I did get it delivered wasn't always the best seeing how I wasn't living very far from them, but Pick up time is normally within 10 minutes. I ordered delivery from Wok Out on 12/07/18 & I was extremely disappointed & unhappy . This is not my first time having visited this restaurant but my last. I ordered (2) meals & both were wrong. The Pork Fried Rice that came w/the Beef & Broccoli was not cooked through & wasn't edible. The Lo Mein I ordered that came with my Roast Pork Egg Fu Young noodles were al dentè (come on guys this isn't a Italian Restaurant LOL) & finally the Beef & Broccoli that we ordered was double meat & there wasn't enough meat for just the regular amount of the dish. So upon calling the Restaurant back the lady who answered the phone was quite nice & polite but had no authority in the decision making for this restaurant & after she talked to the ones who did came back to the phone w/much empathy in her voice but she said they would not do anything. She told them over & over again how our meals were ill prepared but still said they would not do ANYTHING at all.To my dismay this was totally unacceptable because I just spent $25 on food that was inedible. read more

We decided to try them, we live in the neighborhood, we ordered crab Rangoon, egg roles and orange beef for dinner meal. This was the worst food ever ordered from our neighborhood choices. The Orange beef was all bread with tiny sliced pieces of beef encased in large prices of dumplings. The egg rolls were so hard we couldn't eat a half without tossing in the trash. The crab Rangoon was the worst, is was super sweet in folded bread, zero crab, tested like a desert. Terrible!!! We ended up throwing 90% in the trash and just not eating. I absolutely love Chinese food, and I absolutely love Wok Out. My family and I had moved into a house half a mile from Wok Out in '97, and to this day Wok Out is still our favorite place for take out/delivery or Chinese. In FOURTEEN YEARS, we've never once had a bad experience or bad food from them. To me, that speaks volumes about a place. My personal favorite is the lo mein. Chunks of meat (if you order it), always has lots of fresh veggies, and the best flavored sauce I've ever had, unlike other places that seem to be nothing but grease. My other favorites are the sesame chicken and General Tso's. Both have always had large chunks of chicken and I've never had any that was over-breaded. Lots of sauce without it swimming and getting lost. Moo goo gai pan, shrimp and broccoli, chicken and cashews, sweet and sour chicken/pork and the won ton soup have all been the favorites for the rest of the house. The only thing I can think of to criticize is that sometimes the egg rolls are greasy or bland. I can't wait to get back to Clearwater and have some good Chinese; in almost a year in the San Antonio area, I haven't had any Chinese even 1/3 as good as Wok Out. read more

So so meal from here. The house fried rice is really good and always has been. The chicken Kew however was terrible this time. It's basically sweet and sour chicken with a vegetable soup instead of brown sauce. It wasn't even thick enough to pour over the chicken. I would give this place 1 star if I didn't enjoy their food. I was seriously shocked at how bad their service is. I've ordered here 3 times with each experience significantly worse. 1) Their site is shut down so I couldn't see any menu, I called to talk to someone about seeing some sort of menu with no avail. In fact the girl who answered the phone was incredibly rude. I then decided to order off the top of my head. I got the order in and paid over the phone. 2) They were 1 1/2 hrs late. That is another 90 min past the time they said they'd get the food to me. 3) When they arrived I discovered that the food delivery girl didn't bring the receipt for me to sign, so she called her boss and gave ME her phone to talk him and tell him I already paid, all because she forgot the right receipt. We then had to go through the order process all over again and rerun the card. 4) 45 min after the delivery girl left, Wok Out called again and had the nerve to ask for a tip!! Not only that but they were rude about it!!! I don't know what happened to this place, but whatever it is they are doing is not good at all. Wok Out gave us so much trouble over our order, the taste of the food does NOT make up for the bad service, slow delivery, and rude attitudes. I'm not ordering from here again. read more

Terrible customer service and food. I put in for TWO orders of steamed chicken with vegetables. When the delivery got here 45 minutes later only one of the orders had chicken. The other was nothing but vegetables. Additionally, the order that did have chicken in it literally only had 4 tiny pieces. When I called to have the order corrected (I was even willing to go pick it up), the owner just argued with me stating that she "read the order back and we confirmed". This was a complete lie. I ordered on speaker phone and my wife was sitting next to me...the lady never read our order back to us and barely had time to give us our total before hanging up the phone. I have been going to Wok Out for 10+ years & it was hands down, the best Chinese food around stealing me away from the previous Chinese restaurant I had been going to for 20 years. SADLY NO MORE.  I ordered a General Tso Chicken & a House Special Fried Rice (fried rice with chicken, pork & shrimp) for the second time in 1 month. I can understand a restaurant having a bad day, we all have them. I went to cooking school & I have worked in the restaurant trade for years. Things happen, but when they happen more than ONCE the bells start to go off...LOUDLY! The last two times I have ordered from here (same order everytime, LARGE Gen Tso Chix & a LARGE House Special Fried Rice) the General Tso Chicken had been REHEATED...I.E. DEEP REFRIED for a second time. My last order of Gen Tso Chicken was most likely left over from the previous night, I ordered at 2pm/14:00. The DRY DISCOLORED REFRIED Gen Tao's chicken ONE SOLID BLOCK in the exact same shape as the plastic take out container. This time the broccoli in the Gen Tso's chicken was simply raw broccoli put underneath the OVER DEEP FRIED Chicken pieces & left to "cook" that way. The last time the broccoli was overcooked to the point of being completely mushy, tasteless & almost unrecognizable. The House Special Fried Rice had 2 shrimp & GRAY chicken. When I opened the container the NEXT day for lunch it had such a bad odor I had to be throw it away. I ATE THIS NOT 12 HORS BEFOREHAND. This restaurant is literally 1 mile from my house & in 10+ YEARS it has always been at my door in LESS than 15 minutes. EXTRA POINTS for delivering my food while it's still TOO HOT (temp wise) to eat. To say the food quality has gone SEVERELY down hill is a massive understatement. The food I have received the last 2 times I ordered has LOST all it's quality & flavor not to mention the restaurant's integrity with it. You're NOT the only game in town. What a great business acumen you have there, you lost a loyal 10+ year customer to save $3 worth of old chicken that should have been THROWN OUT. FYI...There are at least 10 different Chinese restaurants within 5 miles of my condo. I have absolutely NO DOUBT this place will be going under in the near future. read more

The crab rangoon has no crab in it it's chewy and oily and yes I am familiar with what a fried wonton full of cream cheese would be oily but there's no crab in it the chicken fried rice I suspect is plastic I'm still flossing raw pieces of rice out of my teeth the quote unquote orange chicken is an oily mess of round fritters with a consistency and taste of soggy cardboard when I called to speak with the establishment and assess if I could get some good food or perhaps a refund the lady laughed at me when I asked her why there was no crab in the crab rangoon she again laughed at me and said they don't put crab in the crab rangoon. She then proceeded to tell me that lots of people order their food all the time and she doesn't know what to tell me. Always delicious, never disappointed, been going there for 3 years since we moved nearby. Rice always tasty and moist, orange chicken delicious but quite spicy, love it because it's not chewy or hard, but always tastes fresh. House fried rice has good-sized shrimp and chicken and beef are always tender. Sesame chicken is a favorite for kids.
