It sits in a strip mall with Winn Dixie, a solid pizza spot, and an ice cream shop, which makes it easy to grab groceries, treats, or a pie to round out dinner. Inside is nothing fancy, just the usual Chinese takeout setup, but it is clean and exactly what you expect. Make sure you do not forget your condiments since they keep everything off to the right for self service. The owners are friendly and easy to talk to, and the place feels welcoming even when you are just swinging by for a quick order. I decided to try this place for takeout instead of going to my usual spot, and I deeply regret it. I ordered the sesame chicken, and it was basically all breading with barely any chicken inside--completely unsatisfying. To make it worse, it didn't even come with the broccoli it usually does. This experience was incredibly disappointing, and I feel like I wasted both my money and my appetite. New China is a solid, American Chinese comfort food joint. I've ordered twice from here, and each time the food has been pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but nothing terrible, either. So why three stars instead of four? The lunch specials come with rice already in the same bowl as the main dish. Kind of a weird combo with lo mein, but better to know for the future. No wait time and no need to put me on hold. - order was ready in 10 minutes. Quick service. - plenty of parking in the lot. Did not have to drive around in circles. THE BAD: - broccoli was barely steamed at all. Almost raw. Not a huge deal but would've liked it to be actually steamed. - the TOFU. not a fan. Not enough sauce or flavor. The flavor is a miss and I've tried general Tso tofu all over town. - the price. For $14 I expected more. Will not be getting again and probably won't be visiting this establishment again either. Came here this time for 2 lunch specials ($8.95 each). The lunch special includes pork fried rice or white rice, a can of soda, and your choice of over 25 meals. There is plenty of parking available. It really hard to find good Chinese food out here unfortunately and this place is decent for what's in the area and convenient for a quick lunch. I ordered the potstickers (dumplings) and unfortunately they were burnt and I had to throw them out. I also ordered the kung pao chicken and beef and broccoli. The chicken was white meat and I asked for it extra spicy and they delivered. I wasn't crazy about the beef. It was a little chewy and they under cooked the broccoli. The closest to New York Chinese take-out that I have found in Tampa Bay! After trying multiple Chinese restaurants, I had almost given up, until I found this place! Hallelujah! It has become my go-to Chinese take out spot. So far I have tried: -Egg rolls (yes! Just like NY) -Shrimp and broccoli combination platter - comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll. I sub garlic sauce (spicier and a tad lighter) instead of the regular brown sauce. There are only 5 shrimp included but for $12, you can't beat it. -Wonton Soup - good flavor. Doesn't include the shreds of pork that they do most places in NY, but good overall. I always add crispy noodles and a yellow mustard pack for some crunch and spice. -Crab Rangoons- these were good but are also easier to come across locally. 8 in a bag. Light on filling. Service was excellent for our to go. Employees are super friendly. I ordered garlic chicken which is a favorite for me. I felt it was overpowered by too many baby corns and bamboo shoots and so many green peppers. I'd use 1/3 of each a little more chicken and sauce. I was very disappointed. I tried the same dish down the street on 49th, and new china can not compare. My husband had Kung Pao chicken which was good. My favorite was the won ton soup which was very good (: I would return, just for the soup. The egg rolls and rice was meh. Rice was definitely dry. Again the Spring Gardens was much better.
