    General Tso's Tofu
    Steve A.

I thought it might be fun trying another Chinese restaurant so we tried Wok Wok Kitchen. It wasn't as bad as I expected after seeing where it was. This is located in one of the less kept up areas of Columbus. It's located in a strip mall attached to a gas station so there were no illusions of being upscale. The food is a value and there are some things that are much better than others. It's located not that far from 270. This is not the nicest area but it's still pretty safe. A lunch portion is about $6 to $7. It's pretty cheap so they have that going for them. The ordering area is small. It has only two tables, so you will have to order takeout. You would not want to eat in there anyway. It's an interesting mix of workers. There are not only Chinese but some others. It can make it easier to order by phone. They also deliver so can avoid the cramped space. There are several tofu items. General Tso's Tofu is not too spicy. It lacks vegetables which makes it plain. The Family Style is a little more variety with the vegetables. An annoying thing is they never include the fortune cookies. You actually have to ask for them. I thought it was an automatic thing. The rest of the food was not that bad. I went to Wok Wok having low expectations so I was not that disappointed with my meal. The food is okay but the price is great. There are many Chinese places around so probably will not be back here.

Let's get right to it, over cooked shrimp and my meal didn't taste fresh after waiting 30 mins. I ordered shrimp in garlic sauce, shrimp fried rice, shrimp lo mein, and chicken wings...... No bueno! Shrimp overcooked, no extra green onion in my rice as a matter of fact no scallions whatsoever! Sauce on garlic shrimp was like soy sauce. Rice missing egg and more steamed than fried! Wings average and I'm not eating the lo mein, OK! If I thought I might be going back I would call and degrade the cooks! But since I'm not it ain't worth it.

To start it all out, I ordered online from their website. It ran smooth, gave you all the options, and was very user friendly. I ordered around 5 pm and was told it should arrive about an hour after I ordered with an emailed receipt. It showed up after 30 minutes very fresh. The driver was a nice lady, very patient considering I wasn't ready for her to arrive that early so it took a minute to answer the door. On to the food! I made a bulky order for my wife and I as it was our first time trying it. Also, I saw alot of negative reviews without anything to back up the accusations. So I thought it needed a fair chance. I ordered the chicken lo mein combo, Szechuan chicken with fried rice, egg rolls, crab rangoon, and egg drop soup. The chicken lo mein combo gives you a massive portion and you choose the rice to go with it! The flavor was amazing and it showed up hot and fresh. I would order that regularly. The szechuan chicken wasn't too bad. The vegetables were fresh and flavorful, but the chicken itself was kinda bland. Some spice but not alot of flavor. The egg rolls had good flavor as well, but kind of a store bought taste. Some almost had a slight freezer burnt taste. Not accusing just kind what I tasted. The crab rangoon I would probably not order again. They were quite greasy with not much flavor. Some of the stuffing was a little cold compared to others. Now is the time I want to add that the sweet and sour sauce for the egg rolls and crab rangoon is good but very runny. May have been from it being so warm or maybe not mixed to the correct ratio. Last but not least is the egg drop soup. It showed up incredibly warm with an amazing portion. The flavor was very good, but to be honest I've never been to a place that could mess up egg drop soup. To sum it all up, this place isn't bad by any mean. Top of the line? Unfortunately no, but if you want a decent dinner with good portions for a average price this is the place. I would happily return to try out other things in the future. Thank you for reading all this and happy eating.

Quick service and good food. They make chicken fried chicken, very different then what I am used to but, I love it. They don't fry the chicken, they cook it, natural. If you order over the phone, remember to tell them what type of rice you want. In person they remember to ask if you want fried or steam. If you don't tell them, they will give you fried rice. They don't have seating for sit down eating, but they have seating for waiting for your order.

There was a bug in my food. I'm no entomologist but the bug looked like a 1 cm roach or possibly a beatle. Anyways the food was ok until I discovered our little inhabitant. The restaurant did refund the purchase price but I had to ask to get the whole order refunded. At first they only refunded the entree.

It's pretty solid food. The service is okay. If I had to choose an Asian place to eat it would be here. I've eaten here for over 8 years.

I arrived at noon and the parking lot was already pretty full for this very unassuming Chinese…read morerestaurant from the outside. There is plenty of free parking which is nice. When I walked in the atmosphere was great, I could smell good food and heard conversations. There's a large area with large round tables to right and to the left are booths and almost all of them were full. The menu was a mix of Americanized Chinese, traditional Chinese and included Dim Sum as well. There were a number of dishes we didn't know much about and there were dishes being enjoyed by other customers that looked delicious. The wait staff was more than happy to explain the dishes and/or show us on the menu what someone was eating. They took very good care of us and shared the tasks of bringing our food, filling water, and just checking in. Now the food. The food came out very quickly! We all received a well filled bowl of rice. First out was the string beans, perfectly cooked, not droopy, and the flavors of garlic and hot peppers. Even though the peppers were there the heat was not overpowering at all. Next was the shredded pork with garlic sauce. The textures of the pork and bamboo shoots were a nice contrast and the sauce was perfectly balanced and craveable. The special grilled lamb, I was told, was some of the best in the city. It was tender and well spiced. Even when he said he was full he just couldn't stop eating it. For the dim sum order we got the shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings, scallion pancake, and sesame balls and they brought a soy sauce and a chili oil with them. The shrimp dumplings were tender but the dough was pretty sticky. I think this is normal and they were tasty with some of the oil on them. The scallion pancakes were very thin and gummy, this is the only thing we ordered that I would not get again. The soup dumplings were very small but packed a lot of flavor. The dough did stick together a bit so unfortunately some of the soup did leak out. The sesame balls were the hit and we're just the right amount of sweetness that we considered them desert. They were large, at least 2" in size, with a wonderful sesame seed covered exterior and a soft, sweet center. Chuan Jiang Hao Zi is a wonderful somewhat hidden gem. If you want traditional Chinese cuisine including all the different offal they have it and I would totally try it here over anyone else if I was brave enough. Portions were a good size for the price. I highly recommend checking them out!

I had the Kung Pao Chicken & it was by far the best I'd ever eaten. So many layers of flavor & heat. (a bit spicy for me, but I struggled through & loved every bite) Will definitely be back to explore some of the more "exotic" dishes on the menu. (Wasn't feeling to adventurous this trip) The restaurant was well decorated & the staff took great care of us. (saw a large selection of dumplings at this place too.....definitely be back to try those)

Plus, I figured hibachi can take awhile, and I usually don't have a long time for lunch. Today I had a little more time, and I made a point to head over. It is a bit out of the commercial sprawl at the corner. Look for the food truck, that's the first thing I saw, and it helped me find where to turn in. I wasn't sure if there would be dine in, but there is, plenty of seating inside and out. Inside there are seats at the counter, plus booths, plus I think a couple tables. Menu is pretty basic: hibachi and a few sides. I got steak and chicken, with fried rice, and you pick two vegetables so I picked cabbage and bean sprouts. You get a Yum Yum sauce, and you can add others, but I didn't need them. And the sauce container they gave me was plenty big. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked, the chicken was tender and flavorful, cooked in a nice sauce. The fried rice was great. The vegetables were perfectly cooked. And it all came out in about five minutes. They had a steady stream of carry out customers, but they still got mine on the grill, apparently as soon as I ordered it. Fast and good, and competitively priced for hibachi. A big portion, but not a huge, two days' worth of leftovers portion. But I was stuffed and couldn't finish it all. When I saw the drink cooler with just water and a few juices, I figured I'd have to go with those, but they do have fountain drinks. And they actually have a pretty good variety, cola, diet cola, cream soda, blueberry, cherry I think, and a few others. Anyway, several pleasant surprises, the food lived up to its reputation, I was in and out fast, and for not a whole lot of money in this day and age. I will be back.
