Wolfgang's Steakhouse in Somerville delivered a classic steakhouse experience with excellent food, a warm atmosphere, and a few service hiccups along the way. The ambiance was exactly what you'd hope for from a traditional steakhouse: dark wood, comfortable seating, an impressive wine display, and a lively yet refined dining room. It felt special without being overly formal. We started with fresh oysters, which were cold, clean, and incredibly fresh. The bread basket was also a pleasant surprise and a great way to begin the meal. For the main course, the ribeye and filet mignon were cooked perfectly, with a beautiful crust and rich flavor that showcased why Wolfgang's has such a strong reputation. The fries and Brussels sprouts complemented everything nicely. Service started off strong, but once the entrées arrived, it felt like the table was forgotten. I had planned on enjoying a glass of wine with my steak, but despite placing my empty cocktail glass prominently at the edge of the table, no one stopped by to check on us or offer another beverage. By the time I was finally able to get our server's attention and order a glass of wine, I had already finished most of my steak. For a restaurant operating at this level, I'd expect more attentive service throughout the meal. That said, the quality of the food helped make up for the inconvenience. We finished with the molten lava cake, which was the perfect ending to a fantastic dinner. Overall, Wolfgang's delivers where it matters most: outstanding steaks, quality ingredients, and a classic steakhouse atmosphere. They are in opentable but did not accomodate my simple request for my supposed celebration. Highchair and koala kare not seen. Parking is at the back or any other municipal parking lots. Stopped in for lunch and it was around noon on a Saturday and I was seated immediately and my server came immediately but that was ok because I already looked at the menu online. I ordered a Firestone beer and a Wolfgang's Steak Sandwich. I wasn't impressed by sandwich or the onion rings at the price I paid. The onion rings barely had any batter on them and it flaked off enough where it was a bare onion as soon as I picked it up. The steak sandwich was cooked how I wanted which was medium well but overall it was flavorless. The whole presentation if you didn't know where I got this sandwich from looked like I got it at a low standards corner store instead of a place that calls itself fine dining. The french fries weren't bad they were sorter soggy I prefer crisp. The best parts of this place on my visit was the service and the alcohol plus the restaurant looked clean. Such an awful experience. Typically save restaurants like this for a special occasion, but will never go back after this last trip. Potatoes show up to our table burnt to a crisp. My wife mentions it to the waiter who then dumps them all on her plate and walks away. We actually never saw the waiter again after that. The rest of the food was decent, but not at all worth the price tag. When we asked for our leftover sides to be wrapped, our spinach got thrown away and we were only left with the burnt potatoes. I had mentioned this to our new waiter (had to flag down staff in order to get any attention at all), and they replaced the spinach and covered our dessert for the trouble, but for some reason, still refused to do anything about the potatoes. The dessert was fantastic though. Definitely recommend the chocolate mousse if you do end up going, but honestly the experience left me a little sour. The only negative is for how upscale this restaurant is the wait staff is both lacking in how to behave in a fine dining restaurant as well as just plain rude and unfriendly. Not attentive, never once smiled, felt like we were bothering them if we needed something. This was not the case in previous experiences here. We were a party of 6 and the tab was over $750. I understand completely that things are little difficult during this unprecedented time however when you call and make a 9:00 reservation and then show up for said reservation and are told that they do not have any reservation for you when it's clearly obvious that it's because they are extremely overbooked and have an enormous amount of people waiting to be seated it is clear that they are just saying that as an excuse. We even showed the hostess the call log with the their phone number and length of phone call. So we were told it would be about a 20 minute wait only come to find out from the many people waiting that they were all told the same thing close to an hour ago. Decided to treat myself to a fancy dinner on the last night of a work trip in NJ, and invited a couple of friends to join me. It was about 5:30 on a Wednesday night and we were seated immediately without a reservation. The hostess was sweet and welcoming while the service from the wait staff was equally exceptional. Everyone was very professional and attentive, which was greatly appreciated. Our work budget was $70 per person and to our surprise, every steak/red meat dish was $70 minimum so we all had to pivot to fish/chicken dishes with pasta instead. My review won't be speaking to any of the red meat dishes, though I will say the price point is slightly higher than other steakhouses I've visited and is on par with Peter Luger. I ordered the chicken Parmesan, which was unbelievably delicious. Massive portion of chicken breast that was both breaded and cooked perfectly. It came with pasta (I subbed rigatoni) that had great texture and was nicely bathed in red sauce. This dish was a definite winner and was actually decently priced (~$36) for the gigantic portions they give. My friend order the seafood sampler pasta plate and the salmon which they both enjoyed immensely. The ambiance inside was nice as well; providing an elegant and upscale vibe that tied the experience together. Only negative I can point out, aside from being priced out of the red meat, was that the bread and butter they served were both cold. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with my experience here. I'd definitely recommend this place as a one and done (or once in a while) spot to treat yourself and others to an upscale dining experience. Let's me it clear from the start, this isn't the place to go for cheap eats. It's expensive. A nice experience at Wolfgang's. It is a medium sized venue, that you may oddly feel cramped in. The staff is speedy, friendly, & handle everything with care to make you feel special. There is metered street parking available & metered lots behind the venue (both free after 7pm). They also have complimentary valet parking, which is a nice touch. The interior was dimly lit, as to be expected, glass panels, full bar, & wine room. At the table you get complimentary bread & butter, honestly, not the best....but it's free. We didn't do an appetizer, even though two items are appetizers & were used as a meal. We had the Crab Cake, Lobster Bisque, Shrimp Scampi, Seafood Pasta, & Baby Back Ribs. We drank Lychee Martini, Barrel-Aged Manhattan, Perfect Storm, & Basil Gimlet. For desserts both the Tiramisu & the Chocolate Mousse. The food for the most part was good (see the grades below). It was more of an experience, but not one I find necessary to repeat, mainly due to the price. It's worth a visit if you're looking for something "fancier" to do. Would give 0 stars if I could. First time here was for Valentine's day with my husband. We will not be coming back, ever, even if it's the last restaurant on earth. We ordered a couple of side dishes to go along with our main courses, one of which was their potatoes and onions. It arrived noticeably burnt. I'd estimate about 25% of the food on the plate was not "caramelized" or "browned", but straight up blackened and burnt. I calmly pointed this out to our server and instead of taking it back he took a heaping spoonful, plopped it on my plate, said "enjoy" and walked away. He never came back to our table after that. We had to ask someone else for water refills and to bag up the two leftover side dishes. We only got one of the two side dishes back in a box, and if you guessed the dish we got back was the burnt potatoes, you'd be right. Later, a different waiter came to ask us about dessert. We were pretty disenchanted at this point and complained to this waiter about the missing side dish, burnt potatoes and AWOL server from before. This waiter, props to him, immediately said he'd get us a new boxed side and dessert on the house. I understand Valentine's day must be one of their busiest nights in the year. Maybe the first guy just snapped, who knows. But if a restaurant charges almost $90 per person, I'm going to be expecting good food and good service. Came here on a random Tuesday night. Honestly, based on the overall sub-4 star rating, I had my concerns making the reservation. The night my buddy and I came, it was relatively quiet and everyone was basically seated in the middle section of the restaurant. I would rate this restaurant 4.25 stars. We ordered the following and here's how I would rate them out of 10: Appetizers: - shrimp cocktail (we were given lobster cocktail! It was the same cost so we didn't say anything: 6/10 (nothing special, just some lobster flesh) - french onion soup: 7/10 (could use just a touch more salt) - wedge salad: 8.5/10 (the blue cheese dressing was not overwhelming and the bacon bits were amazing) Steak: - Porterhouse for 2: 9.5/10 (cooked perfectly at medium rare, charred all around and a great flavor filled with the dry-aged umami and butter.) This will not be a cheap night out, but the bill won't be outrageous if you order carefully. The chain was founded by a former maitre d' at Peter Luger Steakhouse in New York. Menu is essentially the same as Luger's, but they accept credit cards. Steaks are expensive, as you would probably expect, given the size and quality of their cuts (they claim that their beef source is the same as Luger's). What was unexpected was the prices of their sides. Twenty bucks for a salad or Brussels sprouts or broccoli? Fifteen for a baked potato? Dessert prices are equally inflated. That's where they getcha. That said, dinner does not have to be outrageously expensive. The secret is to avoid over-ordering -- the porterhouse-for-2 can feed 3, maybe 4. The ribeye will easily feed 2. Sharing entrees and a couple of sides will greatly reduce your bill. Wine isn't cheap (20 bucks a glass), but at least it's good quality. Service is prompt and cordial. read more

A couple of my friends and I came on a co-workers recommendation. Street parking is hard to find there is a public parking lot about a block away that is free after 7pm they also have valet. We were seated on the bar side and glad we were. Our server Joesph was AWESOME made great menu recommendations, checked on us, and kept the drinks coming! Hope Wolfgang's knows how luck they are to have him. The cocktails we had were all great I had the cranberry cosmopolitan. We started with the bacon and shrimp cocktail for appetizers so good! We had the porterhouse for 2 and the Chilean Sea Bass. We shared multiple sides and the Wolfgang's salad recommended by Joseph made our meal one of the best I have had. Terrible service.!!!! Let me start by saying that we have been to many, many Wolfgang restaurants in the US and abroad and the service here is the absolute worst. Wanted to take my wife out for a nice lunch for our Anniversary, and showed up a little after 12 noon we were the second customer. The greeting was so so, no smile at all and we were seated. This is where it went very bad. The waiter came over and said hello, and placed the menu on the table. He asked if we wanted to start off with drinks and we asked for water. The attitude and demeanor from this waiter was terrible. Zero smiles or name exchange or even asking if this is our first time there. You could just sense it was the last place in the world he wanted to be. We got the waters, and he did not ask if we wanted to start with an appetizer or give us any of the specials. We ordered and the food arrived very quickly. The steak was great as usual. The waiter never came back to ask how we liked the food was or if we needed anything. Our waters were empty and never filled again. At this point just his attitude ruined the meal. I pointed out to my wife the other waiter and how engaging and how he was smiling with the guests he was taking care of and the complete opposite of what we experienced. I asked for the check and he brought it and I gave him my card. No words were exchanged . He brought the receipt and set it down on the table and walked away That's it. No smile, no thank you for coming in, have a great day, nothing. He got zero tip and actually should not be around customers at all . If I could give this waiter negative stars I would. He does the opposite of everything I am sure he was trained to do. I went to the front and asked for a manager. She came and was pleasant. I explained our experience and she apologized and asked if she could have my number for the GM to call me back as she was sure he would want to talk to me. I said sure. I will add that I purchased a $100 gift card for a relative to go to another location. So we spent $100 for lunch, $100 for a gift card that day. So $200 spent and horrendous service. I waited for a week and do you think the GM called? of course not. This is usually the case with poorly managed restaurants. The GM sets the tone and service level and that is most likely why this place has terrible reviews and our experience was probably the worst ee have ever had at any restaurant.. It would have taken two minutes to call and invite us back and let me know he is addressing the issue. Nothing. Bad management. As a steakhouse, Wolfgang did not disappoint. A beautiful spot in downtown Somerville, the restaurant is massive with bar, inside and outdoor seating. The drinks were oddly inconsistent (weird for a steakhouse), and the service was lackluster. The food however, was amazing. The fillets were cooked perfectly, as was the ribeye. The ahi tuna and salmon portions were massive. Highly recommend the sides of onion rings, steak fries (which were skinny than expected), and sautéed spinach. The one downer were the ribs. I've waited a while to send this review but got inspired by reading the experiences of other people. I was told this was a "first class" steakhouse but I did not have that experience. The porterhouse for 2 was overcooked and unexpectedly precut. The service was bad. I have had much better steaks at a better price at Longhorn and Texas Roadhouse. I'm sure that some people believe that if you pay a lot for your meal it means you're getting something special. (Ie instead of medium well it was well done. After this was called out, the wait staff worked to hustle us out of the restaurant w/o dessert. We requested desert, we informed the wait staff of the children nut allergy and requested simple sundaes for the kids, the kids received sundaes with nuts. My family and I walked away disappointed in service and quality. To celebrate my mom price is not a factor, I am willing pay what ever it is to make her happy, but poor service and quality unfortunately I cannot accept. I'm basically begging at this point like what can you do at least for my husband, it's his birthday and we waited over an hour. The manager agrees to give him one free drink and a dessert. Okay fine, I'm somewhat satisfied. Then the food starts coming out, it's horrible. I ordered a medium rare filet mignon, which I asked for more on the rare side, comes out pretty well done.
