My eldest went to Wolfies through a partnership with Mays School just down the street when she was 4. They got a 30-minute lesson per week and I didn't see any of it since the school brings them there and takes them back. However, my daughter did like it so I kept them in mind and she was comfortable in the water, which is great. She's now 7 and I enrolled her and her 3 year old brother over the summer in the same class. Now, because I take them, I get to see it all first hand. First off, the staff are all helpful and attentive. No problems on that end. There's an annual membership fee plus $120 per month per person, though they do offer a free trial class before you make it official. The cost includes one 30-minute GROUP class (2-3 people) per week and if you want more swimming days, it's another $120 per day each week. I was going to shop around but my daughter liked Wolfies so we stuck with them. You drop them off about 5 minutes before their time slot and the teachers wind down about 3 minutes before the end of the time slot. Because of that, I wouldn't say it's exactly a full 30 minutes you get, but it's close. They do talk to you about your child(ren's) progress or any notes when you pick them up, which is nice. You make an account on their website and it's easy to mark an absence and schedule a make up. You can mark the absence up until the minute before your class begins so that's great. My only complaints: - Because my daughter started in the summer and we had the bad luck to choose a time slot with an instructor who would be leaving 2 weeks later, there were a number of weeks where their instructors kept on changing, especially when school started and one that seemed settled changed because of class conflict. That really set her back from getting promoted to the next level. - Within our 4 months at Wolfies, we've had 3-ish classes that were cancelled on their end due to accidents (vomiting/defecating) in the pool. In fact, 1 of those times, I was en route and the second, we were already there. You do get an automatic make up credit but it can be difficult depending on other commitments. I have both of my kids in the same time slot so I have to hunt for make up classes with 2 openings. - You'll need more than just 1 class per week to see results unless you've got easy access to a pool to practice in. They do offer special classes (every day during certain times of the year, private, and holiday camps) and I highly recommend those if you want to get your child that edge and have the financial means. I saw a marked improvement with my daughter after she participated in summer camp (albeit 3/5 days because she got sick the SUNDAY before - no credit/refund without a doctor's note, by the way) 2 months into classes. Her instructors (2 different ones) for the 2 classes after said she was ready to test to the next level, but then some cancelled classes and instructor changes later, she's now "almost there but not quite ready yet" which honestly irritates me a bit. Progress will feel stagnant eventually from when I've spoken to other parents unless you get in extra time. - Only the front office and upstairs room where parents can sit and wait/watch are air conditioned (but it's not very consistent). The pool, changing rooms and bathrooms are NOT and I am dripping with sweat after I help my kids out of their bathing suits and into their regular clothes. I don't mind too much about the pool area but those changing and restrooms are stifling with full on humidity and heat. The pool has these garage type doors that are opened and... I really hate summer. Hah. Pool area has some air flow so not as bad but not so much for those enclosed changing rooms.. - Thirty minutes isn't that long, especially if your class has the full 3 people in it. That's roughly 10 minutes per student and even less if one of them is upset. Instructors do try their best to give each student an equal amount of attention though. It's been 4 months and my eldest is still Level 2. To think she could have gotten promoted 2 months ago! They do the same thing in every class for that level so the content is predictable. We'll stay here until the year is up and go from there and I really hope she'll get promoted by then if not sooner. The good thing is my kids do seem to like it and the instructors try to make it fun and comfortable for those on the fence. read more

My 2.5yo has been coming here for about 8 months and so far our experience has been positive. The instructors are all great with the kids and the lesson system runs like a well oiled machine (always starts on time, organized). My son still can't really swim, but I have noticed him making small advances like being more comfortable in the water, putting his face in, and floating on his back. All things that he was not very eager to do before starting lessons. And let's be honest, most kids his age aren't going to learn to swim in 8mo. One issue I do have is that the instructor turnover has been quite high during our time here. I don't think this is because instructors are leaving (I still see his old instructors around) but I guess because they switch around class times? The change has been a little annoying because I do think it sets my son back when he has to become comfortable with a new instructor. We are on our third instructor with his current time slot (one of which was supposedly due to an injury so that's understandable) but I'm hoping this is something that can be addressed. Please do not send your children to Wolfies for swim camp. My 6yr old son came home with red swollen private parts. As a parent it's hard not to assume the worst, so let me not go there. Turns out they left my child in wet clothes ALL day and it caused an infection. My 4yr old daughter came home soiled BOTH days she attended. The manager who runs swim camp, Honey, used the excuse "we asked if he wanted to change clothes" and "theres a bathroom she can use". Do you also ask if the kids want a lifeguard on duty? ... or if they want floaties for free swim? No!! You are in charge and responsible for children while they are in your care. While I think swim classes are fine IF YOU as a parent are there the entire time watching out for your child, please DO NOT send them to swim camp. And to Wolfies ownership, please conduct management training and customer service training with "Honey" - she's not equipped for this position. Lastly, I would suggest revisiting the "policies" about giving kids the "option" to stay in wet clothes all day. The liability there could have been worse, and I'm a reasonable person ... some may not be! read more

My daughter has been going to Wolfies off and on for over a year. She really looks forward to the classes and is progressing nicely. Wolfies has a good online portal for billing, tracking attendance and more. A great feature they have is makeup tokens. If you give advanced notice that you can't attend a class they will administer you a makeup token to be used at any future date. The staff at Wolfies are young, but professional and kind. The instructors take time to update parents. The price is reasonable for beginning, young swimmers. read more

My child took lessons at Wolfies for two years before we moved out of the area, and we loved the experience. All the instructors were great, and though we did go through one or two times with some instructor turnover, we enjoyed all of them and for almost the last year we had Miss Valerie, who was especially amazing--we also really loved Mr. Tre and Miss Sammy. I really felt like the teachers got to know my kid and would greet him by name when he came in, even ones he hadn't spent a ton of time with. The school is super flexible with absences--you can submit one up to the start of a class and they have lots of opportunities for makeups--and rarely closed for holidays. Once in awhile there is an incident with bodily fluids that closes the pool but that hasn't happened in a long time and is also kind of the deal when you have dozens of children in and out of a pool all day. My son was too young for the camps or parents night out, but we would have loved to have taken advantage had we stayed in Houston. We appreciate everything Wolfies has done for my kid over the years! read more

We're so happy that our children have learned to swim at Wolfies. We started with the idea of giving our girls the foundational safety of being able to swim and get out of a pool safely if they ever fell in. They have progressed and have really impressed us with their comfort and ability in the pool as developing swimmers. The staff is amazing and so friendly. We appreciate the parent viewing room with multiple camera feeds along with the emergency buttons located in case someone needs help in the pool. Absolutely do not waste your money on this place. The instructors are inconsistent. They are not encouraging to young students. If I could give this place zero stars, I absolutely would. They also "issue make up tokens" for instances when your lesson gets cancelled yet, you can never actually schedule a make up. There is no availability. My almost 5 year old has been coming here since he was 18 months old, and he has always loved his weekly Wolfies visit until recently. In the past year, his instructor has changed 6-8 times due to staff turnover. Because of this inconsistencies, he hasn't been able to progress and I feel like it is money wasted to have a new instructor every few weeks. We had been going to Wolfies for almost a year. The first coach that our son had was great. He learned and also enjoyed the lessons. Unfortunately, the last two coaches were terrible, specially the last one. Not patience and not very nice. It is sad that our son doesn't want to go back since he used to enjoy swimming very much. Wolfies Swim School has some great instructors; however, their unwillingness to accommodate schedule changes for sick kids is beyond understanding. Seems they would rather have you show up with a sick child than allow you to reschedule a day in advance. I called to address my concerns and the choices that I had and was hung up on. In a world that is increasingly expensive charging $50 for nothing is an easy thing to cut out. read more

We've been going every Sunday to Wolfies since my daughter was 4 months old, and we love the place! She's now 18 months and is able to float, hold her breath underwater amongst other things. Her teacher Mr. Ju'Wan is very patient, gentle with the kids and keeps classes fun for them. There's sometimes wait to change the kids due to the amount of changing rooms, but it's not something that changes the way I feel about the school, most kids change very fast, and some of them even put a towel around and leave. I couldn't be happier with Wolfies Swim School! My son is 4 and my daughter is 2 and we've been taking lessons for a couple of years. The teachers are so kind, patient and caring. The facility is clean and beautiful. They are constantly giving back to the community and setting wonderful examples of being active community members to the kids. I have a few complaints and cautions for other parents. Overall, I would recommend a Pengu swim school location over Wolfies - any day! First, the facility is setup all kinds of funky and is not conducive to viewing your child while he/she is in the pool. They are very adamant that if you are not in the water with your child that you cannot remain on the "dock" and the viewing area is upstairs (no elevator) and overlooks part of the pool. As long as your child has a class at one end of the pool you are golden and able to watch from the 2nd floor. However, if your child is in a class at the other end of the pool, under the observation area, then you cannot see anything. They have monitors with badly placed cameras that do not capture the "blind" end of the pool fully. The other option is to stand outside, in the Houston heat, and look through streaked, water-stained windows at your child as they swim in the pool. Pengu swim schools have the indoor viewing areas, with chairs and better changing rooms, setup so you can easily see your child without any issues. Second, the school policies are contradictory. They have a no makeup policy for the under 2 classes. However, if you tell them a month or more in advance that you will miss a class they still charge you for it! If they allowed makeups for classes missed, this would not be an issue. I just want to get what I pay for! Unfortunately for them, they want to remain bull-headed and stand behind their contradictory policies. Pengu swim schools allow you to make up any missed class for any age child - you just have to check the schedule for availability. I discussed this with the owners a few times and asked them to consider a bit more flexibility in their policies. As a result of this request, they showed their true colors and made it clear to us that their school really is all about money and not the kids learning to swim. Third, the changing rooms are horrible for kids younger than 3 years. They only have a bench and a trash can - no changing tables like Pengu swim school has in every changing room. The bathrooms are tiny, too. Lastly, we have had 4 different instructors since we started almost 4 months ago. The main instructor was injured and could not work for a few weeks. They ultimately terminated that employee and are now training a new one to take over the class. They send out updates when a different instructor is going to be working with our child, with the promise that progress notes would be passed on to the new person. In reality, the new instructor does not have the notes (or doesn't look at them) and we had to inform them as to our child's skill level/progress each class. I am now lobbying Pengu to open a location nearby so that the kids and parents in the area can have a better experience. read more

Very disappointing. I have been going to wolfies with my 2 children for a year now. My daughter moved up to level 4 and they couldn't manage to sort out her lessons with a new instructor. They were happy to charge my card but wouldn't refund when the situation couldn't be resolved. Important also to note that it couldn't be resolved because of their extreme incompetence. The trainers are good. But the staff you have to go through the front desk which is horrible - especially the supervisor. She is rude and doesn't care read more

My son has been attending Wolfies for 4 years now (started when he was about 1.5 years old). He has had amazing coaching and has grown exponentially as a swimmer. Every staff member is friendly and my son adores every person there. They all know his name and greet him with a smile every time we come to class! Highly recommend! read more

I am really impressed with Wolfies! We started here a few months ago and besides the fact that the instructors are great with my kids, here are a few other reasons I will continue with this facility: - EVERY instructor knows my kids by name and they greet them when we get there. This is the same with the front desk staff -the viewing room is fantastic. Not only is there plenty to do for my children who does not have lessons but while my swimmers are with instructors they are able to see me but they are not able to get to me - I am more then impressed with the amount of training Wolfies has invested in the staff. I am continually impressed by the very smooth business operation that is run at Wolfie's Swim School. When enrolling, I was provided detailed and accurate information about enrollment fee, rates and tuition schedule as well as an accurate description of what to expect from the lessons (we are currently participating in the Mommy and Me lessons, which actually tend to be a lot of dads!). Our son has been in class with coach Ju'wan who has been fantastic with both our son and coaching my husband on how to assist and guide as well. There are ample employees during lessons so that everything runs smoothly and to avoid any accidents. We are notified when coach Ju'wan will be unavailable (once in 3 months) and who we should expect in his place. Finally, after attending one time, the front desk staff already knew who we were and offered encouragement to our child. I'm equally impressed by the quality of the lessons as well as the customer service! read more

Both of my boys learned how to swim with the help of Cindy and her staff at Wolfies. They were very patient and kind and never pushed them to do anything out of their comfort zone, until they knew they could excel at it, boosting their confidence. Cindy worked with my older son with his speed and flip turns after he made the swim team and he won many meets. I'm so sad to see one star reviews for Wolfies!! What a poor representation of an incredible swim school and incredible owners staff fellow parents and children. My son Elijah has been coming to Wolfies for a little less than a year and not only does he absolutely LOVE his instructor Ms. Lane but he also loves and is encouraged by every member of the Wolfies team from the front desk to the Deck Managers for his success and recognition upon arriving to swim school. Elijah is a bit shy and was certainly emotional.. aka was screaming for me the first few lessons, as he was two and hadn't been in the water since mommy and me at 6months. None the less the owner Cindy and instructors comforted me by assuring me after the first 3-4 visits he would be comfortable. And now, at 3 years old he floats he has confidence he is "diving" with great form but not really to any depths in the water and he LOVES going to swim. I have no experience with Pengu but I'm not sure I will ever need to because I am soooooo pleased with everything Wolfies provides. Also I'm in love with the culture of the management and owners who are constantly holding donations for other organizations, drives and giving back to our community. The observation room is sooo cool because you are upstairs poking down over the pool and there are mini iPads for other children waiting ( either siblings or swim students waiting for class) to play on, a huge chalk wall and movies playing. Plus benches for parents nannies and grandparents. This place is the best! read more
