They were great on the front end with equipment sales & installation of gas fireplace log set. The set has a remote to start fire. I called for help to relight pilot light on the set we purchased last season. They wanted to charge over $200 for a safety check before they would answer pilot light question. I asked for pricing on various caps but he was not able to provide me with any figures except for final estimate. He also wanted 50% down payment. So our initial experience with Wolfman Chimney & Fireplace was not the smoothest but Jack reached out and we agreed to schedule another appointment. His technician Jacob, who was sent to clean and inspect our fireplace and chimney, luckily identified a safety issue with the installation of our chimney pipe and insulation in the attic space. Jacob showed us pictures of the construction in our attic and it seems there is zero clearance between the chimney pipe and building materials around it. Thankfully this was identified before we began to burn wood in our fireplace. Had it not been discovered we might have inadvertently heated up the materials that were in direct contact with the chimney pipe. This might have led to an actual fire in the attic after several uses of our fireplace. We are currently awaiting an estimate on labor and materials to make our chimney safe. read more

Wolfman did a good job of cleaning the inside of my fireplace chimney. However, hold on to your purse! The service person gave me a greater than $3800 quote to an outside cleaning, sealing, cap and top repair, flashing and shingle improvements. I should have said NO! But trusted them to do the minor repairs and improvements. They were polite, hardworking, but the flashing and shingle work? It was not attractive and very expensive for the actual work completed. I did complain and ask for improvements, but I gave them all the money and NEVER heard back from them as promised. Word to those net yet taken grated if...get several quotes and estimates. The 3 Stars doesn't have to do with the actual chimney sweep service. Please BE AWARE of extra charges with this contractor. I made my appointment with them while driving, gave them my credit card as a deposit to hold my appointment, that is required was never told about the 4%. Then the sweep showed up, provided excellent service and then stated "we'll bill the card on file". Well low and behold there is a 4% added to your bill if you pay by card. Called the office to talk to them about the extra charge. And asked them if they were willing to loose potential future business over an undisclosed additional 4%. Was left with the answer, after speaking with the "manager", ...."I'll have to talk to my manager". I gave them 30 min. to call me back. Will update... read more

He gave me a quote for $2500+ in services I did not ask for, and he had to call his boss to ask about the services I requested at scheduling (replace rusted out damper and broken ash drop cover). His boss (Jack) was highly abrasive and defensive, berated me for asking questions about the quote and other options, and pulled his tech of the job. So unprofessional! In 2018 Wolfman Chimney came and rebuilt my fireplace from bottom to top. I have been unable to use it since that time due to drafting problems and it filling my house with smoke. I have called them multiple times to come and look at it and they just say that I can spend another $1000 to have fans placed to draw smoke out, but they can't guarantee that will work. They have been out to my home 3-4 times over the last 4 years (not to mention numerous emails that were never responded to). The last gentleman that came out said he was pretty sure that the problem was (forgive my ignorance of appropriate terms) the pipe that sticks out at the top is too long and extends to far into the chimney cap for the air to catch the smoke and pull it away. They said they would contact me the next day. Needless to say, that did not happen. I called them about 2 weeks later to ask about the situation and was told they had no record of the visit. After discussing for awhile he said "oh yes, I see the visit here now". I'll have to discuss it with my general manager and get back with you. I was surprised that indeed they did call back and stated that the cap they put on was not the appropriate cap. They ordered the correct one and came out and installed it. The wolfman team came out and gave me a list of major repairs and alterations that cost several thousand dollars. I paid the large required down payment, and even months later still nothing was done. They kept telling me the parts and supplies were not in. The guy that came out said my roof had been built wrong and I needed major structural alterations. He also said my gas logs were a fire hazard and I needed a new set. And I had a leak on the inside wall behind my fireplace and the chimney cover needed replacing. After almost a year, I asked for my down payment back so I could look elsewhere. Jack wachsermann wanted me to give him more time, etc. I just wanted my money back. He became very angry and even though nothing ordered had come in and nothing had been done at my house, he refused to return any 9f my down payment. He was very angry, yelled at me and hung up on my lawyer. Another fireplace company came out recently and said none of the repairs wolfman listed were needed, my fireplace was sound and safe. We knew from our new home inspection, that the interior box needed some mortar work and it needed to be fireproofed, etc. The young man mentioned possible work needed to the chimney crown or cap on the roof. I recently called Wolfman Chimney and Wildlife in San Antonio to have them come out and conduct an inspection along with a chimney sweep. setting up the appointment was easy over the phone, and I was told I would need to give a $75 deposit which would go towards any work they did. I wasn't thrilled about that, but it was fine as I knew I would be using them for the work. I had been experiencing a smokey smell in my living room that was stronger than usual, especially on cold damp days and I communicated this to the owner (Jack) of the company who came out to my house. He spent some time talking to me and told me that a top damper may help with the issue as it would provide a better seal than my current bottom damper. He also stated that it would be best to wait to do the sweep during the time of the top damper install as the sweep comes free. If i did the sweep now, I would be charged and not credited back even if I elected for them to come out and install the top damper. So I agreed and decided to wait. I was thankful he told me what he did. A few days later, another Wolfman technician came out and conducted the sweep. Polite man and he did the sweep rather quickly which was concerning, but I'm not knowledgeable in this area. sweep was done, I was quoted for the top damper work that I decided to put off due to the amount that those cost, I paid and he left. After the fact, I thought it was odd that neither of the Technicians ever got onto my roof. I called another company to come and quote me on the top damper so I can compare bids, they did not ask for a down payment and their inspection included them getting onto my roof. That made me call Wolfman back. The same lady answered the phone that I made the initial appointment with and when I told her that I was concerned about the inspection not being done she got defensive and basically told me I was wrong, that the inspection was done. She was rude. After calling her the owner call me, and confirmed that there was some miss communication and that the inspection was never done. I appreciated the honesty. I asked if they could reimburse me the inspection piece of the work, but they said the inspection is free with the sweep and I said okay. They did offer to come back, but I told them I had another company out here. After the conversation, I went inside and the new company showed me pictures of my chimney flue and top of my chimney. They said there was no way anyone swept that portion of the chimney. From the pictures they showed me, you can clearly see brush marks on the bottom portion of the throat and damper, but nothing on the flue. There was even old spider webs across the flue. This was the very next day that the sweep was done. I told this to the owner (Jack) of the company after my other conversations with him about the inspection and he sounded annoyed and was rather rude and all he said was, "okay." So I paid full price for a half completed job. read more
