I had been watching the works of wonderland tattoo on Instagram for quite a while. I had submitted requests when the books were open for various artists. I felt very fortunate to be able to commission a watercolor from Alice during the pandemic to help support those with businesses who had had to close. The watercolor she completed was amazing and I had it professionally framed. When some of the Covid restrictions lifted and I was able to get the first tattoo of the water color competed. I had that done on my lower left forearm. Alice has amazing detail and an eye for color and my tattoo looks as fresh as it did from the day I got it done. I was so in love with that piece I was able to submit my next request and and was lucky enough to get on the books. That is the upper arm piece in the second series of photos. I am hopeful that I will get a third piece either by Alice or one of the other fabulous artists there again soon! read more

I had a great experience at wonderland tattoo! I got a big piece by Kirsten, in one sitting, taking about 5 hours total. Kirsten and the other tattoo artists were super nice and helpful. She was careful to only charge me for time spent tattooing, not setup/clean up/transitioning between colors, lines or shading. We (Kirsten, Alice carrier, Alice's client and I) chatted almost the whole time, talking about everything from Portland night life to Harry Potter. Kirsten was sweet and encouraging and helped me sit through my most painful tattoo yet (centered down my back). I would highly recommend this shop. It's hard to get in so you have to be flexible but the experience is worth it. I didn't need a touchdown, but their first touch up appointments are free, something which shows how much they value their clients satisfaction. I highly recommend this shop! read more

I had a wonderful experience at Wonderland tattoos, where Alice Carrier tattooed a Steller's jay feather on my forearm this past Friday. I had only gotten one tattoo previously, a tiny little thing, and was pretty nervous, but felt totally easy and comfortable once I arrived at the shop and met with Alice. We hadn't had a consultation, but I applied to her open books because I've seen how immensely talented she is, and as we talked over details and she applied the stencil to my arm (which was incredibly faithful to the specific photo I had sent her) I had nothing but total confidence in her abilities. Since the artists at Wonderland take applications when their books open, and choose all their work, I got a sense that every artist in the studio that day was genuinely excited about what they were tattooing into people's skin. The atmosphere was laid back but professional and the musical selections playing were top notch. But most importantly: my tattoo is beautiful. I am so immensely happy to have it with me for the rest of my life. I fell in love with this place and with Cecelia Wingate. She did a BEAUTIFUL full side piece for me. So sincerely, its exactly what I wanted (in fact, I can genuinely say its everything and MORE than I had envisioned). I've been seeing Alice K. for quite some time. For years. This is a true story. So, I was sitting across from the head of cardiothoracic surgery, which is nothing you want to do at age 30. I asked him if I would ever be able to get another tattoo again. He told me that there's a time in your life where you just have to accept your old life is over. So, in the days ticking down before a surgery was about to change my tattooing ways forever, I asked my friend who he thought would have the skill to tattoo artwork on me (by an artist who worked in a children's hospital and whose neice had open heart surgery). He said to me that only one person came to mind who had the skill: Alice K. But she books up for months in advance! And I had been given the news so suddenly, I'd probably be out of luck. I had to try. Anyway, why am I writing this obnoxiously personal story on Yelp? Because in short, only a true artist would squeeze you in after hours, tattooing your testament to heart surgery. And only a true artist would do it so well that a nurse in ICU would look at the painting on your skin and ask you almost word for word if your tattoo means what you intended it to mean. Some tattooists put images on skin. Alice puts art on skin, with all the heart, meaning and integrity an artist should have. Kirsten did my tattoo today and she was amazing! Super sweet,professional, and talented. Her illustration style is so beautifully done and I lucked out to have her do my first major piece! I had met an older woman who was super sweet, and seemed as though she had figured life out while sipping her coffee and smiling away. I asked her what her name was and she told me her name was Elora. It stuck and that's the name of my lady. She's strong, independent and doesn't care what others think of her. I just noticed Alice Kendall's reply to my initial Yelp review below and am consequently even more appalled by her lack of professional character. In her reply, Alice Kendall writes, "We are sorry...that our several correspondences didn't satisfy your issue." Her mention of "our several correspondences" is entirely made up and misleading; Alice Kendall and I have never corresponded. I tried to reach out to Alice Kendall, but she did not return my phone call, nor did she reply to my email. Zero correspondence. I removed one star from my initial 2-star review in light of her blatant misleading of the public. Besides, no amount of correspondence would have satisfied the issue because my ultimate request was not for a conversation but rather for Alice Carrier to complete my tattoo the way I had originally envisioned it. I booked a memorial tattoo with Savannah Trevino for my dog who recently passed away. I wanted a small, delicate, simple rose tattoo from her. I followed her on Instagram, and found other tattoos around the same size and style that I was interested in. This was a very significant tattoo for me. Instead of being a pleasant and cathartic experience, this became stressful and disheartening. The memorial tattoo has lost its meaning for me, and ultimately felt like a chore to deal with. In my original email to Savannah, I specified the exact kind of tattoo and the size (3 inches) I wanted from her. She said she thought this was doable and she was very interested in working with me. She followed up with an email and said that she might not be able to make the tattoo exactly at the 3 inch mark (I figured this meant like an inch wiggle room tops), but she assured me that she would do everything in her ability to keep the tattoo small. She told me to call the shop and book two separate appointments. I had to give them a non-refundable $100 deposit to hold my space. As soon as she received my deposit, things started getting shady. I sent her references of the variety of rose that I wanted, and she immediately told me that this would now need to be 6 inches minimum with a stem in the image. I told her I was not comfortable with this (I wanted a simple top view of a rose, maybe a couple leaves, but not a stem), and that I still wanted something smaller. She did not respond. Then, I sent three follow-up emails over the next three weeks asking her to confirm that this was possible for her to do. She finally responded 20 days later saying she could do the style of tattoo I wanted, but did not comment on size! I followed up asking her about what size she thought this would need to be, and she did not respond. I sent her one last follow-up email five days later (I wrote, "Just confirming that the 3 inch size will work for this piece?"). She responded saying this tattoo would need to be a minimum of 5 inches and finished her email stating, "If you are uncomfortable with the idea of this, we totally don't have to tattoo it, no problem! Think about it and let me know." Since she offered to cancel the appointment, I figured I would receive my full deposit back. I canceled the appointment with over two weeks' notice. Was I wrong! The receptionist was very rude to me on the phone for just inquiring about being refunded. I asked her to leave a message for Savannah, stating that she had told me I could cancel this tattoo since it was not exactly what I was interested in, and she responded with, "She's not in the shop right now and I can't take a message." Customer service much? This isn't my first rodeo, and I'm not an idiot. I understand that artists make more money the larger the piece, but assumed that they would act more professional than this. I also understand that some tattoos require detail work at a larger size. However, I would not have booked the appointment if I had known it needed to be nearly DOUBLE the size that I originally wanted. I repeat- all I wanted was a simple rose tattoo. No frills. Given Savannah had done similar small tattoos on her Instagram page, I figured this wouldn't be a big deal at all. This should have been a super simple tattoo. When I booked the appointment, I asked if I could do a consultation in the shop first. When the receptionist said she doesn't do this, that should have been a red flag. I spoke to some tattoo artist friends, and above everything else, they said this lack of communication was absolutely unacceptable on her part. They thought it was pretty shady and reflected bad business practices. The Wonderland tattoo artists are talented, but unfortunately there are some big egos at this shop. It's sad that they are willing to risk their reputation and clients over their own arrogance and manipulation tactics. I remained pleasant in all of my interactions with Savannah and the shop, and felt like she tried to take advantage of how important this tattoo was to me. Sadly I don't think she will learn from this, but I hope that this is a lesson for the shop that they should not be bullying clients into something they are not comfortable with. The saddest part for me is that I have been totally deflated in wanting a memorial tattoo for my dog. This was the worst tattoo experience and communication I have ever had. I really hope that Wonderland gets their act together treats their clients better in the future. I side-hustle as a freelance artist, and would NEVER consider treating a client like this. The reality is these artists are creating custom work for paying customers who deserve to be treated with respect. If they did not think they could deliver on this artwork, they should not have taken the project. *Edit: Savannah offered to refund my deposit in full so I added a star. read more

Wonderland is staffed with four uber talented tattoo artists (three of them are kick-ass women). I had a peony tattoo done by Kirsten Holliday and it turned out absolutely stunning. Great tattoo artists! Don't pay attention to negative reviews. It is common to need touch ups after getting a tattoo from any artist, novice or expert, ESPECIALLY if you're getting color. Everyone's skin takes ink differently. This is just part of getting a tattoo. The folks that work at Wonderland are dedicated, amazing artists. I have been tattooed by Alice Carrier and Alice Kendall. They are great people and their work is excellent quality. Alice Kendall is my artist of choice. She has done my last 3 tats. She is absolutely amazing!!! I searched for 3 years to find the right artist for me. She really listens to your wants, and incorporates everything you tell her in to this ridiculous work of art. My largest piece is on my forearm, and it's what I would call a girly, antique, floral piece consisting of 3 flowers with a small butterfly with a henna feel in the background. I've had people tell me that they want to smell my arm because the flowers look so real...lol. Kinda creepy, but true. There is a little bit of a wait for Alice (for good reason). Don't let that discourage you because you will not be disappointed. She is, by far, the most talented artist I've ever encountered. I'm soooo happy that she has opened up her own shop!!! read more

Beware of business practices! I called and spoke with someone at the front desk and described my tattoo idea. She scheduled me for a consultation and tattoo appointment (scheduled for approx. one month after the consultation) with S. Wright and I was required to put down a $100 deposit which would be applied to total cost of the tattoo. I went in for the consultation and he did not feel that my idea (an EKG of my daughter's heart) would translate well to a tattoo and he asked me to rethink my idea and come up with something that was meaningful to me, but that he would feel comfortable with from a design standpoint. After giving it a couple of weeks of thought, I decided not to proceed with any tattoo at this point since my heart was set on my original idea. I called to cancel (12 days before my appt.) and was informed that my $100 was non-refundable! This was not communicated to me when I booked the consultation. So let me get this straight: you have to lay down a deposit just to meet with the artist, the artist says "no" to your idea, and then they get to keep your $? read more
