I'm not sure if the recipes changed, but we ordered last night and the beef bulgogi burrito was way too salty. Even the salsa was salty. I was also taken aback that you all did not give customers their change. I was told you didn't have change in the building. There should be a note on the door, staff should tell customers when placing an order to pay with card only or something so that your staff doesn't have to give customers change that is owed to them out of their own pockets or act like they can't give a customer their change. First time here so my review is only based off one visit. The place is interesting and best suited for parties of 4 or less. We were seated quickly and had a booth that moved every time the person beside you thought about moving. When I was there they were out of all their sandwiches so I went with these nacho fries...spoiler alert, they did not disappoint. They were a great sized portion and delicious. I came here for the first time for lunch on a Friday afternoon (1pm) with one of my friends. The decor of the restaurant and bar was gorgeous and just about every seat in the restaurant was packed. When we walked in the hostess stand was empty and it took about 3 minutes before the hostess approached us for seating arrangements. However, from there are experience was great. We were seated at a booth that was cleaned and cleared promptly. My friend had been here before and had her order all set. Our waiter was pleasant and answered all of my questions. I had only glanced at the menu before arriving and was a bit indecisive but was more than pleased with my choices. I ordered all appetizers. I had the pork gyoza (not pictured), chorizo nachos, and the bbq pork bao buns. At first I was disappointed the gyoza weren't fried but the little char and the accompanying sauce more than made up for it and I even ordered more to go. The flavors on everything were perfect and meshed well. I even tried a bite of my friend's fried chicken burrito and was surprised at how simple yet amazing it tasted. She also got tomatillo sauce on the side and it amped it up tremendously. I consider myself a foodie and really enjoyed everything I ate. Interesting concept here of ethic food matching. Busy for a weeknight but I was brought to a table when entering and my waitress took my drink order immediately. For starter, I got their wings in their hot "foo" sauce. They were decent but with so much sauce on them, the battering went mushy and they lost a lot of texture. "Foo" is definitely hot and it needed some blue cheese or something but they don't do that. For main course, the carne asade from their "Mexinese" menu. Minus the rice and beans. A very good portion of shredded bulgogi steak mixed with bell peppers and onions. I'd describe it as closer to steak fajitas than anything else without the sizzling plate. The beef was a little rubbery and chewy but it did have a very nice flavor. Several people in here doing the after work wind down as they have a nice cocktails menu and several happy hour specials. I love Mexican food and Asian food, so any fusion of the two sounds amazing, and Wong Gonzalez nailed it! We ordered the Wong Gonz Silver Tacos with tofu and the BBQ Tacos with tofu (we loved that any of the meats in their tacos could be replaced with tofu for vegetarians), and the vegan Mango Fried Rice. The yummiest hot and sour soup! It really showcased the Asian-Mexican fusion flavor really well. The bartenders/servers Steve and Hannah had great service. 3.7 In town for a work related conference; decided to spice things up with a "Mexinese" experience. This place has great reviews on Yelp as well as google so I came skipping in with great expectations. The bartenders were very nice and attentive, the ambiance is bright, open, and modern. The slow country music playing is a bit, odd given the Mexican/ Japanese concept. The bartender made some suggestions, that were mostly agreeable with my preferred eating habits. Tequila Shrimp: were pretty underwhelming despite being highly recommended. As the name suggests, these shrimp taste like they've been soaked in tequila. The down side is they are covered in an ill fitting dough. The coating slides off the shrimp nearly immediately after entering the mouth. This does not make for a cohesive chewing experience. Furthermore, eating tequila isn't as thrilling as one may hope. I got the crispy crab tacos without tortilla. No, I'm not doing Keto. Stop being judgy. The dish was small, but tasty nonetheless. The crab cake with a dash of pineapple sent my taste buds into a wild frenzy. They even made it into a cute little salad since I denied the tortilla. While my experience was decent. I wasn't blown away so I can't give this place a higher rating. They seem to have some other cool dishes and maintain a killer concept. read more

We also got the nachos to share which was nice since I was starving . Tastes good and kinda had a sweet kick to it. My friend got the general wongs fried chicken burrito which she enjoyed. I personally am not a burrito eater since I am weird about rice and tortilla combos. Honestly, if your gonna spend your money here get the skillet. It's full of flavor and you get the best bang for your buck. I've had the tacos and the portions are snack size . If your gonna try the tacos get the fish tacos, which are the best ones in my opinion. I also enjoy the chicken wings & the boa buns isint worth it . The filling is like a fajita mix which is ehhhh and the bun is fried not steamed . Nachos are good to share and if your starving but not very meaty of cheesy but the amount of sauce is good. Y'all guess what!? I had a General Tso's fried chicken burrito with chips and salsa at a Tex-Mex & Chinese fusion restaurant. (This is something I thought I would never type in a review.) Like, experiencing Valentina hot sauce on top of a Chinese food burrito was life changing and I feel like am a better person for it. The flavor combination was out of this world, and I'm still thinking about how delicious that burrito was 3 days later. I also had fried calamari with sweet chili sauce, and it was some of the best calamari I've had in a long time. Overall, I was quite pleased with my lunch at Wong Gonzales. They really live up to the hype, and from what I've had from them so far, they really execute their unique food concept quite well. Of course, it's #TacoTuesday so my coworker and I are in search for that delicious Mexican delight! My boy Vince found this place... a Mexican/Asian fusion restaurant! Unheard of... so here we are! Atmosphere/Appearance: Right off of East Grace Street is this gem nestled amongst other small restaurants and shops. It's an elongated style establishment with high ceilings, a 2nd "private booth-like" floor toward the back and very modern decor. It was very simple decorating that didn't really reflect the culture of the restaurant, but who pays that much attention to their surroundings anyway? Lol. It was obviously quiet because you know... global pandemic happening and I'm totally okay with that. Service: Michelle took AMAZING care of us throughout our 90 minute dining session there. She was quick, sweet, sensible and made sure that we had everything that we needed. I'd ask for her by name the next time I pay this place a visit. Food: I tried out 3 different tacos that they had to offer. Each order comes with a set of 2 and you can choose to have them wrapped in flour or corn tortillas. First up were the "Grilled Chicken Tacos" which come with grilled chicken, guajillo mushrooms, fajita veggies, Malay salsa and crushed cashews. I chose to go the corn tortilla route for these. To be honest, the cashews is what drew me to this dish. Lol. I don't remember ever having cashews on a taco and I was impressed. If this wasn't THE BEST grilled chicken taco I've ever had then it was damn close. All of the flavors worked together so well. Next up were the Beef Bulgogi Tacos which are fire grilled pieces of strip steak topped with pico, tomatillo salsa, house Kim Chi and yes... cashews. I chose flour tortillas for these. Very good combination of ingredients to create a subtle sweet, yet rich and savory flavor. Last, but not least were the Asian BBQ Pork Tacos. This place just can't do any wrong can they?! Lol. These are filled with shredded pork, avocado corn relish, cabbage, fried shallots, spicy mole sauce and duh... cashews on flour tortillas. After looking at the menu I realized that 5 of their 6 tacos choices are topped with crushed cashews. Ha. Well, they work. Very well. The Asian BBQ tacos were my favorite of the 3 I got to try. They had a similar taste profile to the Bulgogi tacos, but turned up a notch. Value: Not too bad at all. Each order of tacos comes with 2, about the size of the palm of your hand. The chicken tacos were $6.00 while the other 2 were $7.00 each. I think they were well worth it. The quality is certainly there. Went on a trip to Richmond and was hungry. We got the shrimp, crab, and pork tacos, as well as a bulgogi burrito. The tacos were small (size of your palm) but tasty as they were all very unique. (One was bbq-esque, one was sweet and sour, and the other one I don't remember, lol) There was a surprising amount of sour cream that came with the three taco orders, but they were all used up on the huge, mediocre bulgogi burrito. (The tacos really saved the mess of a burrito.) The BB was straight up 80% rice, 20% beef bulgogi, and NOTHING else. There's literally no fusion here, besides serving a 'whatever' in a tortilla. The BB had no lettuce, no cheese (which would be a good addition), no nothing besides rice and meat. Honestly could've given this place a two star for a straight up rice burrito, but tacos saved the day :) read more

I loved the ambiance, the service was truly impeccable and the food was e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. I had the hot and sour soup which was a Frankenstein of hot and sour soup meets chicken tortilla. I'm down. The tacos were flavorful and on point that were served with a small ramekin of sour cream and a mini lettuce salsa on the side. They had Texas Pete so that's always a win for me.
