This is truly a professional establishment. Went in for suit alterations to a newly purchased suit for my son. They took great care in measuring and the outcome was exact. The suit was delivered when promised And the cost was $60 for shortening of the pants and the Jacket sleeves. Yes you could probably save a few dollars if you went to your local dry cleaner, but why chance it! Will be back here again for any future alterations. Highly recommend this tailor! read more

These guys are amazing tailors. Their main line of work is making custom dress shirts and suits for all the Wall St types. Striped shirt guys need to get their striped shirts somewhere -- if you have a couple hundred bucks to spare, it turns out this is the place. I'm a girl and wear jeans to work, so it's not much to me, but the guys I've seen in here browsing the fabric books are definitely dandies. Hot dandies. Aside from making custom suiting, Wong's also tailor pretty much anything you can think of. One of my girlfriends uses them to tailor all her couture (I can't believe I just used that phrase, but hey, it's true) and says they've worked miracles. I came to them with an unusually cut dress and they made it fit like a glove. I wore it to a wedding and specifically got compliments on the fit of the dress. The work is definitely more expensive than what you would pay at your local cleaner, but it's completely worth it. The amount of flattery I racked up at that one wedding alone was worth the tailoring cost! read more

I have had custom shirts made by two other places, in addition to Wong's. I first went to Wong's to have a suit taken in. I had lost a great deal of weight. So I didn't want to go to any old tailor. Wong's was highly recommended by a colleague. So I brought my suit there, and they did a great job. As a result, I went there to have a few shirts done. Of the three places that I have had shirts made, Wong's was by far the best. The only down side might be that they are a bit pricey, but I can tell you this. I went there with a suit that I thought needed to be taken in, and was told that they were willing to take it in, but it really wouldn't be worth the money. I feel like a lot of tailors would have probably just taken it in and charged me for it, without telling me that it really wasn't worth it. So perhaps that's the flip side of the higher cost. read more

Really nice little shop with super nice guys who really know what they're doing and obviously expert tailors. No idea why this place has such low ratings..I actually found this place via the concierge desk at a luxury building in the area. The guy said he sends people to Wong Tailor all the time and everyone comes back raving about it. And while I wouldn't RAVE, the guys at this shop really know what they're doing. I had weirdly saggy and baggy pants and he told me just to simply pinch up the back and it was perfect. But warned it would be pretty pricy so I didn't do it. The shirts were awesome- he took in the sides and the top so it wouldn't be poofy. And they were $20 bucks each, except one shirt he had to alter about 6 different areas (might as well get a new shirt right) cost $25. Still not bad for the quality, which was perfectly done. They also do custom shirts that cost about 70 bucks each if you buy 8, and $280 for 3, with super high quality material of whatever pattern you want, quite a steal considering the only things that fit me now are $200 thomas pink shirts. AMAZING things happens here. I brought in 4 dresses. 1st dress - shorten the length (cut/hem bottom): easy enough, so it was well done. 2nd dress - shorten the length (adjust 1.5 inch wide shoulder straps by cut/hem): PERFECTION. Doesn't look look or feel like anything was adjusted. the BEST. 3rd dress - fix the ripped neck line (knitted dress and it was a special made so it was really hard to have fixed it.): AMAZING. As he had advised, the neckline doesn't stretch anymore, but it was fixed as if it was never ripped! 4th dress - the area between buttons on the chest part of the dress kept on opening up and you would've been able to see my chest if you stood on my side. They added 2 discrete buttons in that area of the dress, so I can wear it without being paranoid. Total $80. Worth every penny and I will be bringing my brother along to get his suits tailored here! read more

It's a New York tailor people!!! Sorry some of these reviews sound a bit damn Bridezilla'ish. I have had a few things done here, winter coat arms shortened, suits adjusted, trousers adjusted. No issue. You pay, they adjust. Price - well its Financial District. If you want a bargain, move, to, Queens. There is a bit of a language barrier, but these guys speak the language of clothes, you point, you explain, they understand. I had a blazer that was a gift taken in quite a bit. Pros: Tailoring work is done exactly how they measure. They won't give you much style advice, but they know how things are supposed to fit generally. Cons: Pricing is pretty ridiculous. It cost $120 to have my jacket taken in. Granted there was a good amount of work being done, I asked how much it would be to simply take in a jacket (much less work) -- they said still $120. Won't be coming back as it's pretty cost prohibitive to have the tailoring be as much as a cheap blazer itself. read more

I decided to venture out and try Kenny/Wong's for a few shirts to have made and see how I liked them. Service was good, but I feel like the could have taken a little more attention to detail during the measurements. Other tailors I've went to spent more time taking second measurements (with my shirt off) and regular pictures of me wearing regular clothes to ensure an adequate norm fit. The selection was about normal for similar tailors in the city. I was promised the shirts in 2.5 weeks, but since it wasn't a rush for me gave them 3.5-4 weeks before I checked in. I called after 3.5 weeks and as told it would be another 5 days. I finally received my shirts and found the quality to be mediocre. The material used was the same as the swatch and was good, it was the make and design of the shirt that I was unhappy with. Perhaps I should have been more vocal during measurements to go over the details of little things, like collar tips (not actual collar style that was covered), thickness of french cuffs, style of sleeves, width of bottom, etc. The price was decent, cheaper (only by a few dollars) than others I have been to in the city, but I would honestly say I would probably not go back to Wong's as there are a number of better tailors in both selection and final product in the city for the same, if not only a slightly higher price. read more

I've been in the corporate atmosphere for 7 years...worked all around NY..tried tailors in Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island you name it. I have to say Kenny and his crew are some of the best tailors/people I've been to so far. I originally went there as a referral from a friend. When I walked in, I came in one of my favorite suits(not custom but finely tailored) and told him I wanted a suit similar to the fit of the one I had on. He assured me that the suit he would make me would fit and look better. I told him I wanted to order one suit and shirt prior ordering 3 because I wasn't sure I would be pleased with his work...after speaking to him about fabric, stitching, styling you name it...I ended up ordering all 3 right then and there. Within 5-6 weeks I came in 3 times for fittings every detail you can think of was perfected. Final result...3 suits, 6 shirts all fit like a glove, receiving compliments at least once a week on how sharp I look, and at least once a week on who my tailor is...and I went back to place another order today. Bottom line- Kenny always said when you get 1 suit from him you don't own any others. Couldn't be closer to the truth. I don't feel right wearing anything other than Wongs. The service is great, anything I need I get, button breaks I come at lunch time fixed immediately. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to receive outstanding service from a guy who legitimately looks out for your best interest rather than his pockets. Mr. Wong offers a wide variety of fabrics to choose from at all price points. I cannot rave about Mr. Wong enough. I was in desperate need of a gown hem for a wedding that started four hours later - on a SUNDAY. I went on google maps and searched for open tailors, happened to call Wong's Custom Tailor and he said come right in (even though it's by appointment only on Sunday's). I didn't even have to beg - he smiled the whole time and happily said he will do it as fast as he could. He made note that it may take longer than I would have hoped for because he did not want to rush through it and for it to be messy. I was SO impressed by his professionalism and dedication to customers - especially because I was new! He got it done for me with time to spare - and was so fair on the price. Mr. Kenny Wong made a very, very nice suit for my husband to wear at our daughter's wedding. The suit fit beautifully, the fabric looked great, it was ready on time, and did not exceed the quoted price. My husband and I both found Mr. Wong and his staff to be courteous and professional. Kenny Wong's shop had done some excellent alterations for me on a woman's suit, and I knew he was serious about making a garment fit well. I also knew that sewing is done in-house at Wong's, rather than being done in Hong Kong as so many other tailors in the city seem to do. My husband had some pretty poor tailoring done at one of the latter types of tailors, and I wanted to work with someone who was dedicated to producing a really sharp fit and who would be overseeing all stages of the suit's construction. Mr. Wong quoted me a price as soon as I explained what we needed, and that was exactly what we paid. Mr. Wong (he asked to be called Kenny) was great at helping my husband select fabrics, and also with recommendations about details like pleats vs. flat-front, side-vents vs. center-vent, etc. My husband travels a lot, so scheduling fittings was complicated. I was impressed that the tailor gave serious consideration to whether it was possible to complete the garment and get the necessary fittings done in the time available. When Mr. Wong concluded that he could complete the suit in time, I believed him. My husband said the suit was very comfortable to wear, and friends and family at the wedding told me how great my husband looked in the suit. I was pleased with the quality of the fabric, the expert sewing, and the excellent fit. Came in here on a Saturday, told the guy how I needed to tailor my shirt and he gave me a grumpy attitude. He told me $15/shirt, and then he realized I also wanted the arms tailored since he wasn't listening to me in the beginning, and quoted me $25 now. I will give you the facts and try to subdue my frustration as best as I can. I had three suits tailored, no crazy work, total cost $965 (?) To give you an idea of my preferred fit, I am 6'1, 180 pounds. I am a slim guy. I like my suits tailored slim and clean. When I returned to pick up my suits, the pants bottoms had severe breaks when I asked for a very small, modern break on each. They argued with me that it looked well until I did wear one and co-workers confirmed they looked like they were made for a mob boss. I took them back and got them fixed. There was also one jacket that was not taken in enough. I asked them to take it in more and he debated that it would allow me to "sit with the button still on". So then why were the other two suits differently tailored if that was the goal? I am taking that jacket elsewhere to be taken in. The point is, regardless of how you think it looks they will debate you to avoid further work. I would not recommend Wong's read more

i brought in my paul smith tux jacket to get taken in a bit (lost a few pounds since my wedding) and needed a quick turnaround. they completely took apart and reconstructed the jacket and it fits better than ever. i was expecting just an alteration to the chest (which is the most a less experienced tailor can offer), but they tightened up the shoulders as well - now it fits like my custom suit jackets. perfect. not cheap, but they got it back to me in 2 days and it fits like a glove. i looked over every seam and it's quality work throughout. read more

When I went to pick up the items, they had forgotten to hem the liner of one of the gowns, luckily I didn't need the gown right away but this kind of mistake doesn't exactly give the most professional image. read more

Very nice and accommodating. I was in need of an emergency hemming of a pair of jeans, I called at 5:30 on a Friday night and by 6:30, Wong had not just done one pair, but two pairs for me. I can see why some people might think he is a little obtuse, he has a dry sense of humor and can seem quite course. He certainly is very serious about his profession but I was very happy with both the experience and the result. Having had many years of having to have my clothes modified, I have seen my fair share of tailors. I would put Wong amongst the very top of his trade. Warning: this place can easily get very pricey. Check carefully before commissioning work. I took 2 jackets, one suit and two pairs of trousers and my bill was over $1,000!!! read more

Absolutely abysmal workmanship. I had a wool coat re-lined here. They did all the work by hand rather than by machine, which is fine by me if done well. HOWEVER, each stitch was an inch in length (loose to say the least) - indeed the lining began to fall out the very day I picked it up and I had to clip it together with office supplies the remainder of the day. I cannot fathom how these guys are still open, this is BASIC tailoring. Don't waste your time or money. read more

I bought 3 custom shirts from Wong's 2 months back. When I first received the shirts they were flawless, fit like a glove, and overall very well done. However, within 2 months, the fabric on 2 of the 3 shirts I purchased started to fray all over. The fronts of the shirts began to look as if they been clawed up and were falling apart. I brought the shirts to Mr. Wong to show him. Mr. Wong instantly blamed me and said it was "the way I wore the shirts." I'm not sure how many other ways there are to wear a shirt and knowing how much I paid for them I made sure to take very good care of them. Mr. Wong refused to listen or help me in anyway and just argued that it must be my fault, and there couldn't have possibly be anything wrong with the fabric or the shirts. I have had friends buy shirts from Mr. Wong in the past and didn't have any issues. So I'd like to give Mr. Wong the benefit of the doubt that I may have been unlucky with a bad fabric. But when I pay top dollar for a "top quality" shirt that he told me has no guarantee and didn't last me more than 2 months, and then have him not help me after, I find that quite absurd. read more

I have no idea why people have written terrible reviews about this place. I originally came here because I needed a skirt hemmed and this was the closest place to work with great reviews. It's a Wall Street tailor so most of the clientele are men who need suits tailored, so I was a bit curious to see how they would handle this. I read about the language barrier before hand but it wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be. The man has an accent, yes, but this is New York City, in all fairness any New Yorker should be used to that. He spoke conversational English just fine. I told him I needed it hemmed, he had me try it on and stand in front of the mirror, and patiently went through my preferences to find the right length. He had a four day turn around, which is reasonable, and charged $15. I came back the day he told me to in the early morning and it was ready and wrapped, so no waiting until the last minute. You couldn't even tell the skirt had been adjusted, and he did exactly as I asked. So I went back with a dress that needed to be fitted, which was much more of a process than the skirt. He just as patiently went through the adjustments with me, explaining where he had to take the material from, and told me he wouldn't be able to resew the back zipper on, and would have to replace it. I said fine, whatever he needed to do his work. I came back four days later, and not only had he fitted the dress, he was able to keep the zipper as well! I think this place is great and would definitely recommend it. They're very down to business but still professional. I'll definitely be returning. read more

So over all I think they did a fine job (had a dress and top altered) but the service was not good and the prices were astronomical. I'm Chinese...and I know what these Chinese guys are up to...and that is charging you up the wazoo! I asked the guy who was pinning my garments, what he thought about the fit and he didn't say anything. It's his job to let me know how something is "supposed" to fit since he's the expert. No help whatsoever, so I arbitrarily decided the lengths and fits of my dress and top. I was definitely overcharged, so I'd rather bring my clothes elsewhere. read more
