this place is a pretty solid bakery for doughnuts and cakes! it's your average hometown, small batch bakery that you can always depend on. their doughnuts are fresh and they had a pretty good selection of different pastries and butter cakes- even some on sale in the front of the store. the staff is very pleasant and the prices are reasonable! read more

Wowza! The vanilla white cake with raspberry was one of the best cakes that I've ever had. It was just about everything you could possibly ask for- delicious filling and icing, cool and flavorful, you name it- this is one awesome cake. I was at a local event and someone brought this cake in; they later offered to let me take the rest (half of which was left) home! Uh, yeah! Absolutely love this place. Staff friendly always! I first found out about Woods donuts when I would go to local gas station and they sold Woods donuts there, but at a higher price. (Third party pricing) So I asked the gas attendant about the donuts and she told me whom the baker is. This is a cute little bakery. When you walk in you can tell they've been around for a while. I was there to erase the memory of a disappointing lunch I had just had a few doors down. The selection of baked goods here is adequate, and the prices seem reasonable. It doesn't appear, from the few visits I've made, that specialty cakes and breads are their forte. They do most often, have a great assortment of cookies, pastries, and good old fashioned doughnuts! A word of caution though; if you walk into this bakery late in the morning (close to noon), availability of most items is extremely limited! As for quality... nothing I've ever purchased at Wood's stands out as downright delicious. Most of the baked goods I've had from there are good... just not great. That said, one thing in this bakery that truly lacks, is customer service. I have NEVER walked out of Wood's Bakery feeling as though my patronage mattered a single bit to them! I always feel like their attitude is... hey, when you know what you want, I'll be right over here, come get me! There are other bakeries in the area that are worth the extra drive. read more

Surprise to see so many 5 stars. I went in with high expectations and was sadly disappointed. I gave this place two visits just in case the first time was just an off day. Allow me to explain! Heading out for work, I had a craving for donuts. I typically do not eat sweets so early but chocolate glazed sounded good. Read good reviews and had to see for myself. Well, place is nothing spectacular. I was expecting full racks, shelves and trays stacked with goodies and glass display cabinets filled with cakes of all sorts. What I saw, instead, were half empty racks, table of cookies had few selections and atmosphere did not have the great aroma of a fresh bakery. And to top it off, my cashier very young lady was not that friendly. Did not even make eye contact as she accepted my payment. Like I said, maybe just an off day! So I return another day. And, this time it was in the afternoon. Did not see another customer so I figured quick service. Well, three employees were there talking fairly loud. One acknowledged my presence and gave me a greeting. She had to get through two other employees deep in their loud conversation. The lady taking my order had to asked me twice what I said. She would apologize for not hearing me the first time as she also apologized for the loud noise coming from the other two. I got my order and went on my way. The donuts are ok. I could buy from grocery store and be just as satisfied. I would visit again just to try other items. I do support local family businesses so give this place a try. read more

This place is a definite dive little bakery. They have really cheap stuff. I wasn't a fan of the cheesecake. It seemed really dry tasting. However all donuts and cookies are good. Especially their red-velvet cake. read more

Extremely disappointed. Would give it ZERO stars if I could. It tasted like day old gas station donuts. This was my second time trying them out. The first time I went around 10am so of course most of their donuts were gone. I had their glazed and sugar jelly filled donuts and glazed. Going that late I expected the donuts to taste like they been sitting out since that morning. So it wasn't great but it wasn't bad. So I thought I had to go earlier to get the good stuff. They open at 530am during the week. I went in at 7am. I was happy to see that they had everything in stock. Today was their specials were apple fritter and devils food. I specifically went today because my favorite is apple fritter. Well I got a dozen donuts, glazed, jelly filled, devils food, apple fritter, long johns, cinnamon twists. I've never tasted this bad of an apple fritter-for one NO APPLE, NO CINNAMON. What the heck. The glazed donut was cold and hard-so if they baked it fresh at 5am or so and it's cold hard at 7am that doesn't seem right or good at all. Bought their gooey butter cake as well. I'm no expert but I thought it was to be a bit gooey. Another rock hard item, flipped it over, the bottom is way darker than golden brown. It's sad really, everyone raved about this place. Although overpriced, we have supported would bakery for over 20 years because it is a local business. Unfortunately, that time is come to an end. The Asian woman that works at the front counter is very rude and unwilling to help at all. We called order a cake yesterday morning to pick up today which for the past 20 years it's never been an issue and she acted as though we were nuts for even asking. I went in this morning to just get a plain cake and they had nothing and again, she gave me an attitude. I will never go back to this bakery. I Ended up going to Dierbergs where they were very friendly and had exactly what I wanted. The lady behind the counter even wrote my daughters name a happy birthday on the cake. read more

My wife surprised us this morning with donuts that were really good. The blueberry donuts were my favorite as they aren't too sweet and have a great dense, moist texture. The crullers (tractor tires) are very good as well. We will be going back for more since they are better than Krispy Kreme. How can you go wrong with some classic good ole woods bakery donuts and a ski or chocolate milk... Or a strawberry milk! Yeah they may not be anything extravagant when it comes to the donut industry but I'll tell you what they sure do feel my stomach with goodness. And to there customer service if I had to be up as early as they are in the morning to serve someone like me that got a good nights rest I would be that way too. hell they deliver in multiple counties for a O'Fallon Illinois small time bakery so I'd say they're doing a pretty damn good job in my book keep it up!!! The best doughnuts in the area! Wood Bakery makes their products fresh each day and the doughnuts are simply delicious. They have a variety of different kinds of doughnuts by my favorite are the blueberry cake and the caramel iced long john. They also do other pastries plus cakes and pies but I have not tried those. I hate to say I was very disappointed with the birthday cake I ordered for my son. When I placed the order in the store the lady who took the order was unsure if they would be able to do it, since they don't use fondant and said they would give me a call later to let me know. When she called, she said they would be able to do it and would use a edible decal for the paw patrol badge. This is how I received the cake, edges smashed by the box and paw patrol badge not even proportionate. I probably could have gotten better from Walmart. read more

The donuts were not even as good as grocery store donuts. So far, Midwest donuts in general are a real disappointment, so it might be me. The donuts are more like plain old bread than what I expect a donut to taste like. These are like old sweet bread with glaze. The high number of stars seems entirely unjustified when the donuts are average at best. I will definitely go back and try their other items and update this review. The first time I walked in this bakery, I was amazed. There were so many different varieties of doughnuts available. However, Everytime I eat a doughnut from here I find myself disappointed. The dough is much drier than other places I have gotten doughnuts from, making me feel like I'm eating a day old doughnut rather than a fresh one (not saying the doughnuts are old, they just taste kind of dry). I don't like feeling regret when eating something as unhealthy as we all know doughnuts are, so if you want a really great doughnut, in my opinion, this is not the place to get one. read more

my wife loves this place and i have gone to them before for my nephew's birthday party last year. my only suggestion is to realize that a whole sheet cake is HUUUUGE! Ask for serving sizes because we got a full sheet cake and though the price was great (very good!) we didn't even need a third of the cake. But it was great and people had cake to take home. Woods Bakery made our daughter's wedding cake and 10 sheet cakes for last Saturday's wedding. They have a variety of cakes and fillings from which to choose. All night, people were asking me who make the cake as it was so moist and delicious! I was expecting to take home leftovers to enjoy but found out that every last piece of cake was eaten, and I had even over purchased so that I would have leftovers. No leftovers is a sign of a good product. Also, Jen was wonderful in getting my detailed order correct and everything was delivered exactly as ordered. Their prices are excellent also. I highly recommend this bakery to anyone planning a wedding. I just wish I lived closer to the bakery, although my waist probably is grateful. :) read more

We come here almost every Saturday for the blueberry donut holes - they are amazing!! We also love the cream cheese Danishes:) I recommend calling ahead if there is something specific you want as they make certain donuts on certain days. This is a cute little bakery. Not that great of a selection but good donuts and cookies. Very affordable prices. I'm giving it 3 stars because of the customer service. I am frustrated. They have a delicious doughnut called Angel Cream which they only make Thursdays & Saturdays. I have made multiple trips to get these donuts, only to find they are sold out! It is 7:30 on a Thursday morning! Then to rub salt in wound staff are like "eh should of came earlier! Woods you have lost my business! It is not worth the drive just to find out you don't have what I drove 20 minutes to get! Lady said I could call ahead but I've done that before and they said I had to order a dozen of these angel creams. So would of loved to support a small business but I have to go to Krispy Kreme because I least I know they will have selection I want when I get there. read more

When I was little, they used to have a bakery truck that came through our neighborhood. The pastries were great back then and still are today. I personally love the cherry danish. I have never found a bakery who makes them as good as Wood Bakery makes them. My Mother and Brother love the cream horns. They are quite tasty. My Father loves the peanut coffee cake (delicious) and my Husband always gets the iced long johns. The glazed donuts are another standout product, as well as the jelly donuts. The icing on these pastries is great. Also, they make these iced cookies that my family loves. Around Easter, they are rabbit cookies, at other times they are bear cookies with a white icing. The staff has always been nice. You can call them and your goodies will be boxed upon your arrival. read more

My Mom brought a pumpkin and pecan pie all the way to Chicago for thanksgiving. Hands down the best desserts we had at dinner. Wood Bakery pies will now be a must have dessert for thanksgiving and Christmas. Yummy!!! Wish I lived closer. read more

Wow I think this place just lost my business. I have ordered hundreds of cookies from them over the past 8 years. They have done cookies for me at each Holiday, nurses week at Siteman Cancer Center, employee appreciation days, etc. Also, they always do the colors and decoration I want on them without question and even help me design what I want on them. Not only that, I have ordered tons of donuts and cakes over the years. For the past 2 years they have made cookies to take to my son's classroom for the kids on his birthday. My son does not like the thicker icing on the cookies he likes the buttercream cake-type icing better so that's what they do for his special day. Yesterday I called a week out, giving plenty of time to make more of those for next week. They told me they have never ever done that and that the decorators said it was too much work. I was put on hold twice when I kept questioning "are you sure? you have done this for me for 2 years in a row now!?" I told her I even have pictures of the cookies being handed out to the kids in class and that the worker in the store even helped me design the cookies!! The worker on the phone assured me that I was wrong and tried to sell me cupcakes. seriously? I felt really let down and now looking for another bakery in town somewhere.
