Employees don't seem knowledgeable about the products; they are curt and condescending. I don't know why they treat their customers badly. Not all of them are bad, of course, hence the two stars, but twice I was treated in a less-than-ideal way. One dismissed me with short, uninformative answers; the other was outright rude on the phone when I called for information on an expensive piece of equipment I ordered from them. My husband and I attended a chopsticks making class by Jeff Marsden on 7/2/22. I was able to find this class by looking online at the website and calling to sign up. My husband was interested in the concept of woodworking, and this was a fun beginners class to start exploring woodworking. Jeff was an incredible instructor, and was very kind and easygoing. He first introduced us to the varieties of woods available for us to work with (Sapele, African Blackwood, Leopardwood, Hardwood, Maple) and gave a clear demonstration of how to use the tools to make the chopsticks. In addition to the chopsticks, we also made chopsticks holders and a bonus item- a sushi board. We learned what it meant to "buff" the items, which made our wood items amazingly smooth. We even got a complimentary mineral oil for our wood items & chopstick bags! -There were 4 other people in the class with us, and we split up into 3 different stations and rotated accordingly. Jeff alternated in checking in with every station to help/further demonstrate and teach, and readily answered questions. -My husband and I were able to make multiple chopsticks and chopstick holders. The class lasted 3 hours and every minute was well enjoyed. We would highly recommend a class with Jeff! read more

I'm a long time Woodcraft customer here, having shopped at their original store in Woburn, MA back in the '80s. Overall, the quality of their products and customer have been excellent, so this latest experience has left me scratching my head. I ordered a metric brad point drill set and it arrived quickly, but the plastic drill case had broken in shipment. I contacted customer service and they sent a return label and shipped a replacement. Well, the replacement also arrived with a broken plastic case, so I suggested they just send an empty case as it was the larger drill bits sliding around in the case during shipping that were breaking the case. They agreed, and here's where it falls apart. While the first set and the replacement were both shipped to my current address, they somehow shipped the empty case to and old address where I haven't live for years. I caught this in an email from UPS when it was shipped and contacted customer service immediately. I was told that they would redirect the shipment, but that was a couple of weeks ago, and still no case or any response from Woodcraft Customer Service. I buy a lot of speciality tools and supplies here. They offer great classes and I really appreciate that the staff is populated by people that use what they sell. If you have lathe questions, ask for Jack. The only reason they don't get star #5 is pricing. Their retail pricing is up there and maybe 15-20% higher than on-line retailers , but if you are spending serious coin, they will work with you a little. I do appreciate having a local brick and mortar that I can go to when I want to feel the difference in two tools, etc... read more

Yesterday I went into this business to ask for some help matching some existing finished wood. Casey was great! Knowledgeable, personable, very friendly and helpful. He helped me select a couple products and assured me if these didn't work I could return the products. So I spent about $35, went home and did a tiny test sample with a smidgeon of product from the lids. Nope, not going to work. Confidant there wouldn't be a problem I brought in my sample piece to ask for further assistance. Jesse, the return guy, said no, it's "used" so you can't return it. IF I had lied to him, told him I had not used a smidgeon in a test he would have taken it back. There was no visible clue to having sampled anything. I was shocked that they would go back on their word! Do not go to this place for stain and finish products unless you are absolutely sure its the product you want. On the other hand Mallory Paint and Stain on 4th Ave. S. DOES honor their word and WILL let you make a return. Kudo's to Mallory for keeping their word! PS. The bottom of the receipt says "Satisfaction Guaranteed. If you are not happy with your purchase, return it anytime within 90 days for a refund." Yeah. Right. Obviously FAKE NEWS. read more

I have almost decided to buy somewhere else. There seem to be a lot grumpy old men at the Georgetown store (I'm 74). I have been a professional woodworker since 1978 and when I spend my hard earned money on a tool I expect a smile and thank you when I get the receipt. Not at this store, well there are a couple of guys who are nice, but many of the men here seem to have no idea of courtesy. Go work in a lumber yard if you don't want to meet the public. read more

I just took a beginner's class at Woodcraft and I can't recommend it enough! Sawdust Therapy (with women only) was the class I took and I had such a good experience. I was really impressed with Steve and how he taught the class. Steve is incredibly knowledgeable (I really enjoyed learning more about how wood is cut down and the different processes it undergoes, etc.), he was very clear and direct, covered safety really well, made sure our project allowed us to use a variety of tools, and he had a sense of humor about everything. I also really appreciated being able to take a class with other women. I shouldn't have been but I was a little intimidated to take it. I am so glad I did and that I took it at Woodcraft. I came in early before my first class and bought a few things. The customer service was great - they helped me navigate the store and find the right items I needed. I've been doing busiess here for a long time. If it's worth having WoodCraft pretty much has it. These are absolutely honest people who will do their level best to help you find what you need, and if it's not right then they will stand behind you and make it right. They have a fullly equiped classroom and they bring in instructors from all over. Here's an example; the nationally famous Rob Cosman comes from New Brunswick to teach students how to hand cut dovetails in two days. This is a fun place with tons of inventory and a staff that has lots of experience. They are always willing to help. read more

The GREATEST customer service I've experienced! Finding myself without a band saw, a hack saw--or any type of saw for that matter--to cut some table legs to size, the staff here happily did the cuts for me in their shop/classroom. If you ever have a woodworking need, this is the place to go, hands down. The selection of tools/supplies is expansive, and everyone is very helpful. They also offer a wide range of classes taught by people who really love what they do. I'm considering taking one of the beginner classes to learn my way around the heavier machinery... Maybe I could be like Ron Swanson someday! Seriously though, shop here! read more

What a cool place! They have all kinds of stuff here. Really enjoyed my time perusing the aisles and watching a woodworking class go on. I'd like to come back soon to take a class! Maybe the cutting board one? They have a lot of cool options! As far as products go, they seems to have a lot of the basics - safety gear, stains, top coats, some giant wood slabs (for large benches or tables), smaller wood pieces, etc. etc. It's a one-stop shop! The service was decent.The lady who helped us at the counter gave us some tips about wood staining. I'm not sure about the prices here - definitely "Retail" prices so a bit of a mark-up. Though, I'm not well-versed in purchasing woodworking or crafting products. With anything, online prices are probably the most competitive but it seemed pretty fair here...worth a visit! read more

I purchased a product they had listed on Ebay and 4 hours after the sale went through they refunded my payment and said that they could not honor the price I paid because they had priced it too low and the new price was 160.00 higher. Having owned a custom cabinet shop for 20 years I have made a lot of purchases from this woodcraft over the years. 2 saw stop table saws, Festool Kapex, Powermatic planer and 8" jointer the list goes on probably 10's of thousands. Never have I been talked to by an employee like I was today. I always try to keep my business local, but I will never spend another dollar in this store. read more

GREAT place for woodworkers. They have an amazing selection; this store is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Yes, it's pricey, but worth it to be able to talk through your project with someone who really knows stuff and is willing to help. They also have a huge shop/classroom and offer a selection of classes. I haven't taken one, but am thinking about doing so. I felt compelled to write this review because this was one of the few times I did not feel condescended to as a woman in a hardware/home improvement/tools type of store, and because of the business I'm in, I visit them often. Not necessarily the cheapest place, but the staff is very knowledgeable and you not only leave with the product you needed, but also with a lot of knowledge about the tool or project. The store is very well staffed and its usually pretty easy to grab someone to help me with any questions I have. They have a huge range of products, I love spending an hour there walking around and checking out different things. I took an introductory workworking class and a series of wood finishing classes at Woodcraft Seattle. The instructors are great. Michele's Morton's wood finishing classes were incredible and a lot of fun. I got to learn the pros and cons and techniques for lots of different products. Michele does a lot of preparation for the class we could learn and try a lot of different techniques during the class. The rub out class was the best. read more

So I went to my local Woodcraft store in Georgetown looking for some specific drawbolts for joining counter tops along with a fastcap router jig. I had to open up a couple of packs of drawbolts in order to to see if they fit the fastcap jig. One of the kid salesmen asked me if I was going to "buy all that". I asked him what he meant by that, and he asked me if I knew what I was doing! I was taken aback by his very condescending tone. I'm a professional woodworker with over 30 years experience as a cabinetmaker. I immediately walked out and called the store manager within minutes to express my anger. I told him that as a store manager he should know that his employee should be retrained or fired due to his condescending tone toward me. I also told the store manager that I will take my business to Rockwell from now on! Btw I've spent hundreds of dollars at this store over the past few years. read more

It's dangerous to let me go into Woodcraft, I pretty much want everything in there. :) What I actually end up getting is usually new chisels (great selection) and occasionally wood, although I wish they had a better selection of ones I'm accustomed to using such as alder. They even give me as discount with my woodworking student card (Beaver Lake Woodworks), which is always nice. read more
