This place sounded pretty good online and we wanted to visit downtown so we gave it a try. Positives: we were seated immediately and the staff was all very friendly. The place is big inside and cute. Negatives: food options seem a bit limited, especially if you don't eat pork or lots of carbs/sugar. No fancy coffee drinks. I was going to try their corned beef hash but learned it was from a can instead of homemade. I went for the veggie & cheese omelet (minus peppers). There was no option on type of cheese, just American. The omelet was filled, which was nice, but it seemed at least the mushrooms weren't fresh and were also canned. The grits were pretty good, not sure why mine came in a bowl (which I liked). But my partner's were on the plate with his omelet. He ordered one with sausage, which he said was ok, but he didn't love it due to the type of cheese. We didn't try the coffee as we prefer cold brew or cappuccino, so we stuck with water. Our server was very nice and came back often. This just isn't really our type of establishment, so I do not see us returning or recommending. read more

We looked up Breakfast places in Plant city and the Brick House had great reviews. 9:00 on an Sunday morning and they were bustling. The hostesses were sweet and sat us right away. Our server who's been there a while was at our table with our coffee and waters right away. Hubby had eggs and pancakes and I had the same but with a side of grits! I've been here several times and it's my understanding that the place was recently sold to someone else. No major improvements from what I can see. Lots of open seating. Service is adequate and at times a little slow. But they do stay busy there. They service typical American foods. I've only gone for breakfast and can only speak of it. We came by for a quick breakfast. We did find a spot in the very full parking lot We ordered coffee and water which came right away. We had biscuits and gravy, french toast and veggie omelette. The coffee was good and we did not wait long for our food. The biscuits and gravy full size is 2 biscuits and plenty for one person. The french toast was also well portioned and tasty. The veggie omelette and biscuit was good with the veggie sautéed. The environment is quick moving with waitress being very busy but keeping coffee and water full. So disappointed, NEVER had a bad experience with food, staff or other patrons. The "Owner" came in yelling at the staff and had the staff in tears, so unprofessional. Yelling at the hostess over a sugar packet on the ground with a full house. They obviously were busy and they are part of the experience making everyone feel at home. So I have a friend group of about 10 who get together regularly for brunch and one of the members suggested this place. They take reservations and our server was friendly, and funny. In addition, the manager/owner came over a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was quite yummy, particularly the deep fried grits. Essentially a hunk of grits, lightly bread covered with bacon, cheese and optional gravy which we got on the side. Our food came out in a timely manner and everyone enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it's great just ok. My son had the steak hoagie and didn't eat it. He stated it was gross. Breakfast is basic but they use oil, not butter so the bread is gross. Syrup states maple but it's a maple blend. Scrambled eggs are not really scrambled. There shouldn't be white ribbons through them. Hot cakes are good basic, hard to mess up but good. Some of the staff seems to have a real attitude and one has a really big mouth. Lots of complaining. I don't want to hear that nonsense. Most likely will not be back. I asked the server to take off eggs from my order because the eggs were not over medium like requested. She insists to me that she can't take it off of my order. Then to prove her point that the eggs were over medium she sticks her finger onto my plate into my eggs to show me that the white isn't runny. Really rude service, will not be coming back here! Needed to find a place for lunch and I was in Plant City, somewhere I wasn't too familiar with. Yelp to the rescue once again! The Brick House Cafe was actually easier to find than I thought, located just on the edge of downtown. Parking was a bit iffy, but I found a spot. It shares a parking lot with other businesses but when I left, I realized there was more parking around than I originally thought. I arrived just at 11 am, just between the breakfast and lunch rush. First impressions? The place is really cute. Two rooms, super clean, a large homey mural, plenty of seating. The wait staff was super friendly and appeared to know everyone but me. Didn't matter though, I was treated like I was a regular. My drink and food came out hot and fast. I ordered a BLT with chips (I can't eat fries anymore, sadly, so had to pass on the lunch special of a BLT & fries). It was delicious and exactly how I wanted it. This really appears to be a great place. The vibe inside was great and everyone here, young and old, appeared very happy. If I wasn't running errands (and if there wasn't a line forming at the hostess desk!) I would have lingered longer and had dessert. I would rate this place in negative numbers if I could. Food mediocre at best. We all came down with some kind of digestive upset (possible food poisoning?) which we suspect possibly came from unsanitary iced tea machine,the only thing the three of us guests had in common,and only place we had eaten before it hit. You must try this place. Their southern fried grits is the absolute bomb. It's a brick of grits with gravy, bacon, and cheese. A wonderful heart attack on a plate....so good. The western omelet was good and I asked for my order of eggs, potatoes and corned beef hash to be well done on the hash...the cook did not disappoint. Cockroach alert! We used to go to Brick House weekly for years and never seen a bug. We've only been there a few times since the new owners and today we saw a live roach crawling on the wall. The waitress was told and did kill it but the owner, Nick, never approached our table to address the issue. The waitress kept apologizing to us for seeing the roach and imo it was the owner, who was there since we saw her talking to him, should have been the one to handle it and apologize. This wasn't handled at all by the owner. This wasn't the waitress's responsibility to address the situation. This hometown diner was recommended by the nice owner of The Mercantile across the street. I will review them as well. My roommate and I walked over for a quick lunch before our trek back home. Nice spot that is clearly a favorite of the locals. Everyone who came in seemed to know eachother and the friendly staff very well. Our server was a nice young woman named Emily. Genuinely kind and attentive. We started off with sweet tea and some coffee which were both very good. Then dined on patty melts (burger, grilled onions, swiss cheese on buttered and toasted rye). Upgraded to onion rings instead of chips. Oh and they do have tots, so next time, I am trying those! I had my nomz with bbq sauce and it hit the spot! Nice thick cut crunchy onion rings. Sorry no pics again. Was too hungry to wait. We enjoyed this little diner. Nothing fancy. Just relaxing lunch with tasty comfort food. They also had some interesting daily specials on their board when you first enter. Will def go back next time we hit up The Mercantile.
