Chose this restaurant as I was looking for something in the Long Grove area that was large, a bit less crowded, with a full menu, and TVs to enjoy a football game but still be able to have a conversation with friends and this spot fit our needs well. The parking lot is enormous, and they have a bar area in addition to a large amount of outdoor seating. Service was quite fast as we were the one of a few tables in the dining area on a Thursday evening. The interior of the dining room fit our needs quite well with plenty of TVs all around and much more comfortable seating than you'd get at a bar. The food here feels a bit pricey, except for the pizzas which area priced very competitively. It's not too crazy compared to other options in the long grove area however and the portion sizes are fair. One of the things to remember too is that some of the ingredients here are a bit more premium and that's reflected in the price. Still, I wish there were a few more choices of value priced items, though the pricing may needed to help support all the events that they run here. With that said, they do run specials on some days of the week that are quite competitive. The food itself is not bad at all. I liked the Texas Twinkles that had a good level of savoriness and wasn't really spicy, but had a good richness and amount of fat to it. It was a little small for $13 but still enjoyable. The Woodfire BBQ Chicken Thin pizza was big enough to feed 4 and was done quite well. It's a bit on the savory side with the applewood bacon and red onion with about the right amount of cilantro and seasonings to balance everything out. It wasn't too salty or sweet, and the amount of mozzarella was just about right. The wagyu brisket platter was also quite good, with meat that was super tender and had a nice crust. I wasn't a huge fan of the cornbread, and found the baked beans and corn to be fine -- but did enjoy their version of the coleslaw. Overall, a solid choice if you're in the Long Grove area and need a spot to have a nice meal with friends. The full menu and comfortable dining room make it a pleasant spot to spend some time at (when they're not too busy). read more

In October 2025, I bought gift cards paying cash. They closed their doors in December. Numerous attempts to contact owners or WHOEVER to get my money back or at least a meal at one of the owners other locations. We have dined here a few times since they opened. And our latest visit was a Thursday night. The place was empty, unfortunately, though we were told that the local assisted living places bus in their residents for Bingo night in the bar and it gets busy. They have a large parking lot and (when it's warm) a nice outdoor seating area. Though, people smoke out there which makes it unpleasant for those of us not wishing to get the second-hand smoke and makes in unpleasant, so we have gone elsewhere because of this. This is January, though, so no worries about smoking near the food. We were seating it their very spacious dining room. The hostess lead us to our table as the cook (or manager) barked directions to her as to where to seat us. Other people came in after us and that same behavior didn't take place. It seemed odd, bt whatever. My wife and I were not looking for anything heavy so we both ordered soup and salad. She got the French onion soup and I the chicken noodle soup. Scratch that, I got the small cubed celery and carrot soup with a few noodles and couple pieces of chicken and a splash of broth. I guess I have to let them know that I prefer more broth in my soup because this seemed more like chicken noodle stew vs soup. She got the southwest chicken salad without corn. and I got the wedge without tomato and blue cheese and subbed in ranch instead. The wedge was huge and covered in bacon and the ranch dressing was very good (like Wingstop ranch good). Instead of a wedge, this was more of a 1/3 of a head of lettuce. It was crisp and fresh. It was very good. My wife liked her salad as well stating that it was flavorful and crisp, too. Our server was quick to refill our waters which was nice as he just did it without us ever asking (a great trait, btw). There was another server who was more of an entertainer. He would come into the dining room, dance a little and sing. Woodfire doesn't have entertainment like this; he was just happy to do his thing, and chat with the tables. It was a nice change and made the dinner more enjoyable. We paid our bill (which you can do online via a QR code on the bill) and left and the manager/owner experessed his pleasure in having us join Woodfire that evening and off we went. It's a good place with some decent options which seem to change periodically. Not sure if it's a seasonal change, but it's nice to see. Their pizza is also pretty good. Great Bartender Marco and phenomenal thin crust pizza and bang bang shrimp! Best pizza I've had in 15 years in the Chicago area.

This latest incarnation of a woodsy Lodge-style restaurant serves up authentic smoked barbecue as well as a good variety of other items. The smoked brisket platter is a winner and the pulled pork is first rate. Service here is pleasant and competent. The only minor negative is that barbecue items here come with a little cup of corn kernels rather than the traditional half cob of corn. There's only one barbecue sauce and it's a good one. On weekday nights, you might encounter some unusual groups. This last time we came, there was a women's painting class going on in the main dining area. My husband and I have driven past Woodfire Tavern dozens of times before deciding to meet a friend there to watch a Thursday night football game. This restaurant has a large outdoor eating area along with a big dining room and bar. We chose this restaurant because from the pictures on Yelp, it looked like they had a lot of TVs to watch the game on. We were all able to see the game from whichever seat we chose. We started with the Texas Twinkles (jalapeños stuffed with smoked brisket and cream cheese and wrapped with bacon). These were very spicy. Then we ordered the Woodfire BBQ Chicken Thin Pizza. This was a great pizza with lots of toppings. Because they have a smoker and smoked meats are their specialty we had to try the Wagyu Brisket Platter (16 hour slow smoked angus brisket, served with crispy onion straws, coleslaw, cornbread, smoked baked beans, and corn). This meat was so tender and flavorful. You definitely have to try one of their smoked meat dishes. We got a cookie skillet to finish the meal. This cookie came topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and sprinkles. Our server spent lots of time with us and was very nice. I had a salmon BLT which was perfectly made and tasted great My brother had a pulled pork sandwich which he enjoyed Price point was good The other server who originally sat us made up for the poor server of our server and she visited our table a few times and was very pleasant and knew what she was doing. After passing this restaurant a multitude of times my fiancé and I decided to go there for dinner with another couple. I made a reservation on their website the night before. My friend and I weren't sure if it was necessary, but we are glad we did. We got there for a 7pm reservation and it was absolutely packed in the front. We checked in and let them know what our reservation was under. We were sort of dismissed as we checked in, which didn't feel great. A ton of people were coming in without reservations as well and putting their names down. The male hostess was more then happy to schmooze with all of these people instead of focusing on getting the reservations sat. We were seated about 10-12 minutes after our reservation. They said "ok we have a table for you 4 follow us." As I followed them the man started walking to a booth. We went into their dining room and there were tons of open tables. I said I'm sorry you said a table, we would prefer that over a booth. The host rolled his eyes at me and passive aggressively said "fine take this table". We sat down and it must have been at least 20 minutes until our server came by for our drink orders. Then we had another server come by saying they would be helping us tonight, but we said we had just given our drink orders. She said oh ok, and walked away. We waited probably another 15-20 to place our order. We knew we should give everything at once (appetizer/entree) because we didn't know how long we would wait. We said we wanted to start with an order of the cheese curds and then we all ordered our entree. I got the Woodfire Tavern burger. Our cheese curds never came and then about 40 minutes later our food showed up, still with no cheese curds. I just asked the server to please erase it from our bill since it never came. His response was oh I guess it didn't come at all. My burger was fine, but my fiancé and I agree we don't feel it is worth coming back to. It was not ok how long we sat and waited when there were a plethora of open tables, servers walking around, and we were never checked on. So I have been wanting to try for long time. I could have waited some more. So we start with a beer and the one I picked was flat and stale. They did take it off my bill. But it must not get used a lot. Next beer was in a bottle much better. We ordered the why are you beef brisket and the pulled pork dinners. So don't be great smoke smell in the air the brisket taste like st pats corn beef almost nothing special. And the pork was a good smoke flavor. Both meats were nice and tender and served Luke warm at best. The sides on the other hand the beans had a real nice flavor. Maybe they were smoked but not sure. The slaw was just ok. I really liked the corn bread it had a very good texture and flavor. The fries were the season ones and Cooked perfectly and even served hot. Service was good our server was very attentive. We will not be going back. But I always like to say you might find something I did not or you might like it. And corn is just frozen Ps. They use open pit bbq sauce. I was like really. We ordered the smokehouse platter to share, ribs, sausage, chicken, pulled pork, brisket, etc. I don't know who the pit master is, but this guys gotta go. It was really bad. How do you have a giant smokehouse and pump out food like this? I honestly feel like I should enter my BBQ in a competition if putting that kind of food out is "acceptable ". What a waste of money. I finally got to stop by this restaurant in its newest reincarnation- the tuna avocado tower is what I was dying to try and it absolutely rocked!!!!! I also tried the French onion soup which in Long Grove normally has apples and this was just awesome!!!!! The service was great. My second time here in about 2 weeks. Not sure why it doesn't have Better reviews: they have a fully loaded bar, outdoor seating, plenty of parking, live music, friendly staff, and most importantly, good food! I've gotten the same thing both times I came: A greek salad and pizza with sausage and onion. The salad is fresh, colorful, lightly dressed and a great serving of veggies. It also holds up as leftovers quite well. The pizza is slightly heavy on the cheese, but has a great flavor, abundant toppings and also reheats incredibly well. I like this plate a lot. read more

Also ordered Maria's meatloaf, came with either chicken soup or French onion. Tried the chicken soup, next time will try the French onion. Soup was ok but stock seemed a little bit watery for my taste. The meatloaf was good, gravy over potatoes and meatloaf with asparagus. I'd like to break this review into two; 1). the restaurant and 2). The bar. We got in for a Saturday for dinner. Must say, the smoked prime rib...awesome! More smoked items should be on the menu. Servers and Kitchen staff aren't concerned with food prep or expo, they are clueless on how to take care of customers and what is being sent out. All the veggies were soggy and shriveled. Reservations for outside by the band were made for last Saturday night. On Saturday Morning called again because of the weather report to verify the reservation. When we arrived the hostess went to seat us inside and advised us that it was an hour and a half wait for food. We told her we had an outside reservation. Just visited Woodfire Tavern for the first time and we will definitely be back ! The menu had a nice variety of offerings but we decided to order the Smokehouse Combo Platter and were rewarded with exceptional BBQ samplings. The brisket was off the charts good but each of the meats on the platter were very good. Combine that with the best cornbread I have ever had with some great other sides included and we ended up bringing some home. I was tempted to order the smoked meatloaf and will try that in the future but if you enjoy great BBQ and can't decide whether to have ribs, chicken, pork or brisket this is one stop shopping at its best. They have enough variety on other items that everyone will be happy and the prices were very reasonable. read more

Listen, I love to go to local places and leave reviews that push business towards them, but DO NOT go here. Walked in last night. The host told us there was one table left and asked if we wanted a booth or to go to the bar. We asked for the table and then walked into almost an entirely empty dining room. It was 8 pm on a Friday. And I know what you're thinking, maybe the rest of the tables were reserved...no they were not, and no one ever came. Our waiter was fantastic and very attentive. I ordered the herb and garlic half chicken with vegetables and mashed potatoes. It comes with a salad or soup and I got the French onion soup. The French onion soup that arrived, was a very small cup, which is fine since it came with the meal, but it was lacking in all taste. As I began to dig through the cheese layer, the bread croutons were not right. I can't tell you exactly what the bread was, but it seemed like a very strange roll crust that was being used and was the entirety wrong texture for this soup. Next, my mail arrived, and the half chicken did not look right. The skin was a very strange color and texture and the meat smelled. I called over our waiter and I told him that I thought the meat smelled off and he said sorry about that and took it away immediately. For the record, the mashed potatoes also had been scooped out and had a grey tint to them. He then came back and asked if I wanted some thing else to order, which I do feel was the appropriate response. As I said, the waiter is great. I decided to order a pulled pork sandwich as a substitute. The sandwich came very quickly, and our waiter made sure that we had hot fresh fries. The pulled pork sandwich was clearly from pork that had been cooked days previously. I haven't felt this disappointed in a meal in a long time at a restaurant. The strange part to me is that I have been to this restaurant before and I enjoyed my meal. This time, however, the dining room seemed very rundown, and in the entryway there is a very cheap plastic room deodorizer. I don't know what happened to this place, but I'm not sure I can trust any meat that they serve , it is with a heavy heart that I write this because I truly do not like giving negative reviews to local places, but I have some serious concerns about their food quality. read more

First of all, the setting is beautiful with plenty of parking. Likewise, the restaurant's interior is attractive and thoughtfully designed. I loved the multi colored lit bar. We arrived about noon on a Sunday. We stood at the reception desk for a least ten minutes until I asked the cook if they were open. Apparently, there was only one server/hostess working the huge restaurant. Brandy, the server was very friendly. She brought over a Pepsi and it was tasteless. Asked for the canned root beer on the menu but they were out of it. There was only one other couple dining the whole time we were there. The brisket combo plate had plenty of food. It was very good. I am super disappointed. We went this afternoon, early evening, to have a small meal and drink. We hadn't been here since right after the name and menu change. We ordered spinach and artichoke dip and a cheese pizza with drinks. I was already a little annoyed by a super loud patron, so I had easily noticed other things, like our server wearing his mask only covering his mouth. As I sat there looking around, my 10 year old step son noticed another server with a mask on wrong. He was saying to himself, but loudly to fix your mask. We were seated where we could see the kitchen and where servers pick up food. Nobody was wearing a mesh there. Half the staff walking around without a mask until they approach a table. This of course was after we ate and I just wanted to leave. I understand people don't agree with the mandate, but I believe if you are effected by Covid, you will take it more seriously. We deliberately go out before crowds to avoid the bs, we don't expect the whole staff to be the ones messing around. It was clear the person in charge, manager/owner was walking around with the mask around his chin. Taking food out and talking to people. Lead by example!!! This is why nobody in the place is following it. Now I need to worry where these people have been, if they are sick, if they are going to make us sick..... granted it's all a risk, but how dare you prep food and and serve it not giving a damn about the people around you??? We will never go back, in fact on the way out we told and older couple that nobody was wearing masks in the kitchen. As we got in the car we saw them also leave. Hopefully people will see this, including the owners and take this more seriously. Meanwhile I can't help but think how large the place is and how much slower it seems read more
