Bacon Onion soup side

This latest incarnation of a woodsy Lodge-style restaurant serves up authentic smoked barbecue as well as a good variety of other items. The smoked brisket platter is a winner and the pulled pork is first rate. Service here is pleasant and competent. The only minor negative is that barbecue items here come with a little cup of corn kernels rather than the traditional half cob of corn. There's only one barbecue sauce and it's a good one. On weekday nights, you might encounter some unusual groups. This last time we came, there was a women's painting class going on in the main dining area. On a previous visit, the local Corvette club was meeting in the upstairs area.

My husband and I have driven past Woodfire Tavern dozens of times before deciding to meet a friend there to watch a Thursday night football game. This restaurant has a large outdoor eating area along with a big dining room and bar. We chose this restaurant because from the pictures on Yelp, it looked like they had a lot of TVs to watch the game on. We were all able to see the game from whichever seat we chose. We started with the Texas Twinkles (jalapeños stuffed with smoked brisket and cream cheese and wrapped with bacon). These were very spicy. Then we ordered the Woodfire BBQ Chicken Thin Pizza. This was a great pizza with lots of toppings. Because they have a smoker and smoked meats are their specialty we had to try the Wagyu Brisket Platter (16 hour slow smoked angus brisket, served with crispy onion straws, coleslaw, cornbread, smoked baked beans, and corn). This meat was so tender and flavorful. You definitely have to try one of their smoked meat dishes. We got a cookie skillet to finish the meal. This cookie came topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and sprinkles. Our server spent lots of time with us and was very nice. She was able to give us lots of information about the menu and restaurant. I highly recommend Woodfire Tavern!

So I have been wanting to try for long time. I could have waited some more. So we start with a beer and the one I picked was flat and stale. They did take it off my bill. But it must not get used a lot. Next beer was in a bottle much better. We ordered the why are you beef brisket and the pulled pork dinners. So don't be great smoke smell in the air the brisket taste like st pats corn beef almost nothing special. And the pork was a good smoke flavor. Both meats were nice and tender and served Luke warm at best. The sides on the other hand the beans had a real nice flavor. Maybe they were smoked but not sure. The slaw was just ok. I really liked the corn bread it had a very good texture and flavor. The fries were the season ones and Cooked perfectly and even served hot. Service was good our server was very attentive. We will not be going back. But I always like to say you might find something I did not or you might like it. And corn is just frozen Ps. They use open pit bbq sauce. I was like really. They make nice meat and put crap sauce with it.

Great Bartender Marco and phenomenal thin crust pizza and bang bang shrimp! Best pizza I've had in 15 years in the Chicago area.

The corned beef was good, but they asked me if I wanted it on Rye or a roll and I asked for Rye. Unfortunately, I took it to go so by the time I got home and realized it was on white bread, which in all my years I've never had a corned beef sandwich on white bread. The sandwich I got looked nothing like the sandwiches on their website. The website shows large portions of corned beef, and other meats, that was far from what I got. I usually enjoy having half the sandwich now and half the sandwich for another meal. Let's just say I ate the corned beef!! I ordered a side of coleslaw and had two bites of it and realized it may have been sitting too long. It was definitely not coleslaw that I am accustomed to from a deli. Overall, the service was fabulous. The people there are very nice, but this sandwich shop is expensive and doesn't really give you what you are expecting.

BEST BUTCHER SHOP AROUND -- HANDS DOWN!…read more Dorfler's Meats has been my go-to butcher shop for the past few years, and honestly, I can't imagine shopping anywhere else. From the moment you walk in, the owners and staff treat you like family -- not just customers. It's beyond refreshing to go to a meat shop that truly does it right, from start to finish. The quality is unmatched. I happily travel well out of my way just to stock up on their incredibly fresh meats, top-tier seafood, and the ready-made, home-cooked meals that make weeknights (and weekends) so much better. And let's not forget the deli counter -- WOW. The sandwiches are next-level delicious, and the homemade salads are always fresh, flavorful, and addictive. If you're shopping for the holidays, Dorfler's is an absolute must. Their Prime Tenderloin roasts are unreal -- exceptional quality, fair pricing, and you can truly tell how much care and craftsmanship goes on behind the scenes. It's the kind of place where excellence isn't an accident -- it's the standard. The staff is nothing but helpful, friendly, and genuinely kind. From outstanding customer service at the counter to unforgettable meals at my family's table, we have nothing but positive things to say about Dorfler's Meats. Thank you to everyone at Dorfler's for all you do to stay open, keep raising the bar, and continue showcasing exciting, seasonal products that we look forward to all year long. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out -- HIGHLY recommend!

BUYER BEWARE! Most of the staff is rude and the entire business is a scam. Find a local farmer and…read morepurchase meat from them instead. Our household shopped at Dorfler's for 13 years. It always felt a little strange that they never had pricing visible. Every other butcher I have ever been to since childhood has always had prices visible. You would go in, order, and pay whatever they charge you at checkout. But the products were good enough and I was happy to support a local business. Over the years we have ordered a beef tenderloin roast during the holiday season when it is on sale for $34.99/lb. It has always been very pricey but (as far as we know) we were never cheated on the price and the product the way we were this year. We ordered one 3lb beef tenderloin roast. We were explicit when placing the order that we wanted one piece of meat that was 3lbs. The person who took the order was rude but seemed to understand the request. When we got the roast home I did the math because the bill was a lot more than expected. We were charged over $41/lb. When I called to ask about why the price was so high I was put on hold and the rude man that picked up next told me "it's trimmed. We charge you for the weight before trimming." This means Dorfler's supposedly trimmed off about 3/4 lb of fat. That is a lot of fat to trim off of a 3lb roast and if I was going to be charged for it why was the fat not offered to me as part of my order? Unfortunately, we accepted this explanation. The roast was wrapped in butcher paper which we did not open because we put it straight in the freezer for a week before defrosting it. We finally opened the butcher paper on New Year's Eve to prepare the roast to have on New Year's Day and were appalled that Dorfler's clearly lied to us. There were 3lbs of meat in two small roast each vacuum sealed in plastic by their distributor. This means that Dorfler's not only WAY overcharged us for the amount of meat we received, they also charged us for 3/4lb of fat they never really trimmed off. I am not even sure why they bothered with the butcher paper at all, except they probably charged us for that, too. If I could give Dorfler's zero stars I would. Also the obvious direct response to this negative review is a pathetic attempt to save face regarding your tenderloin roast "sale." Patricia W. is likely related. Why else would she disagree with facts? Dorfler's is nothing but a lying bunch of cheats who screw their loyal customers every chance they get. Some just haven't figured it out yet. And now they blocked me on Facebook. Keep it up guys. You are proving how crooked you are and how you can't handle the truth being told about your disgusting business of cheating loyal customers.

We drive past Grill House all the time, it has been in Northbrook for a long time (I just found out…read morethat it's been here for 9 years), however, this was the first time that we ever visited, and I am happy that we finally did! My husband and I wanted a quick and good dinner one Sunday recently, and we picked Grill House after I read some good reviews on Yelp.  Although it's a casual, fast-food-style restaurant, the menu is surprisingly extensive, with a wide variety of healthy Greek dishes. It was definitely helpful to look over their menu online before we visited, because the menu board inside could be a bit overwhelming.  I guess I still looked quite confused when I saw 2 kiosks in front of the ordering counter.  A staff behind the counter offered to help, and I just ordered directly with him.  Later of the evening I discovered that he's the friendly owner Gus. After placing our order at the counter, we were given a table number, and our food was delivered promptly.  I ordered a Chicken Souvlaki Plate ($17.50 at the time, it's now listed online for $18), while my husband ordered a Filet Mignon Souvlaki Plate ($25.50).  Each souvlaki plate included a soup or salad, rice and potato (1 piece), a side of veggies, and pita bread in a paper bag.  It was a generous amount of food! We both chose the lentil soup, which was served piping hot in a nice ceramic bowl with a lid. It was flavorful and comforting. My chicken souvlaki was tender and juicy, never dry, and both the rice and potato were delicious. We were both impressed with the quality and value of the meal. I ordered a lemonade, which is considered a fountain drink ($4.00) and comes with free refills, though I couldn't even finish my first glass. My husband would have ordered a glass of wine if we hadn't had plans afterward, so we were happy to see that Grill House also serves beer and wine for a future visit. The service was another highlight. Everyone was warm and welcoming; a special shout-out to Kevin, who was very attentive and checked in on us several times.  When I was taking photos around the restaurant, the owner Gus greeted me again, which was a nice personal touch. The restaurant itself was bright, clean, and inviting. There's also a pleasant patio for those who prefer to dine outdoors. We will definitely be back to try more dishes from their extensive menu.  I am glad that we finally gave Grill House a try!

The ambiance is nice, calm and decorated for Valentine's Day which made me smile. It was light and airy, the decor and vibe I got was similar to a Corner Bakery (R.I.P) and Panera Bread. When we go the counter, the cashier was super nice and we explained to her that it was our first time here and she was kind enough to give us some time to look through the menu. My bf ended ordering a BLT sandwich with avocado and then the chicken dumpling soup on the side. I ended up ordering a New Yorker sandwich with the Kickin Crab Chowder soup on the side. Since we were dining in, we chose a booth and the cashier said that our food would be brought to the table when ready which we were fine with. In a matter of moments, they brought the food out. My bf's BLT looked like a typical BLT but we knew where the action laid is if the bacon was crunchy because (....iykyk...). As soon as he bit into it, (drum roll), the bacon was soggy which brought the whole taste of the sandwich down. As bright and fresh as the sandwich looked, the soggy bacon was a no go. My bf was disappointed as was I but he was hungry so he ate the entire sandwich. As far as the soup went, my bf said it was bland which neither more salt or more pepper could save. As for me, my soup was way too salty and just tasted...off. When I think of seafood and chowder, I think thick and flavorful, this was neither. As a fellow seafood lover, it was almost too salty and then too fishy (...never thought I'd ever say that). Same goes for my sandwich. Although piled high with pastrami and corned beef, I wasn't too much a fan of the taste of the bread or the meat. The pastrami was peppered with too much pepper and then the corn beef just didn't taste fresh. We ended our meal with the Godiva chocolate cheesecake and that was the hit of our meal. Rich, succulent and tasty...it was absolutely delicious! Overall, I wasn't too much impressed with the food. It is a bit steep in price but I mean hey! You never know what like and don't like if you don't try. Maybe one day we'll come back and try some other sandwiches but I don't think it will be anytime soon.
