One of the restaurants was the Woodnotes Grill where I had the best birthday dinner . Even my pup was allowed join us and loved my the friendly staff. Don't miss the: 1. Cheese plate: This could be a meal by itself. Came with 3 different cheeses seved with mustard, crostini and local honey 2. Pan seared salmon in marinara sauce (so good). I guess, their salmon dishes keep changing. I am sure they are all great! 3. Mushroom risotto: loved the truffle oil and cream sauce! The portion sizes were humongous! Had a lovely first visit to Woodnotes last night and will definitely be back! The service was impeccable- the host and servers were all so warm, pleasant, and attentive. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in a rustic style with large antler chandeliers overhead. Music was a pleasant volume and a good selection. We came at 6pm on a Sunday and didn't have a reservation. The dining room was mostly full but had a few tables available. For apps we got the spinach salad and corn meal crusted calamari which were delicious. The calamari was so crispy and perfect. Our entrees we're the beef cavatelli, and salmon. The cavatelli, truth be told needs work (we were told it's new). The beef was a little dry and the sauce was way too tangy. The salmon was delicious, however, and we really enjoyed the polenta cake. We had the apple crumble for dessert, which was amazing. read more

I found Woodnotes for a lunch stop on my drive to the Catskills. They have a lovely patio with a view of the Esopus and all sorts of outdoor space right along the river. I had a very good Caesar salad with chicken and the staff was friendly and all wearing their masks. The patio was set up for proper social distance dining and I'm looking forward to trying them on my next trip for dinner. This is a beautiful restaurant located at the Emerson Resort. The décor of the restaurant is absolutely warm and bright. The restaurant even has a fireplace. The restaurant is able to do outdoor dining due to Covid-19 and there is plenty of parking spaces. Due to Covid-19 we sat out side. The table are spacious and the restaurant provided outdoor heaters to keep the diners warm. The best part of outdoor dining at the Grille was the view. While you sit outside you get a beautiful view of the Esopus Creek. Totally worth eating outside. We came here for dinner one Saturday. I loved the cocktail menu the restaurant offered. They have cocktails named after famous poets. I ordered the Hemingway and thought it was a lovely drink. As a vegetarian I felt I had some choices to choose from. For my appetizer course I had a lovely Red Pepper Bisque. It was hot and creamy, I would highly recommend this dish. For my main course I had the Arancini. The dish was perfect, it was warm and buttery. I really enjoyed the dish. For dessert I had the Cheesecake. the Carmel really elevated the cheesecake and I loved it! When all else fails up in the mountains during a major Holiday, count on Woodnotes Grille- Emerson Resort & Spa's restaurant with a modern design inside; along with light grey scheme and delicate ceiling lamps. Hostess, Karen, made sure our accommodations were in tack and immediately sat us by their fireplace. Our main server Liz, was pleasant and explained their Christmas Specials (menu would've topped it, with a few more options). Nonetheless, we began with a wonderful Chestnut Soup. The supporting staff, were all friendly. However, during our dinner and reordering more cocktails, servers became less attentive. And I fully understand: Christmas Day (mind you) the only upscale restaurant operating with a full house, made for delays; I get it. But there were several more hiccups: Mr. Man's Risotto was hard and lacked creaminess and my Roasted Veggies were more than roasted- they were burnt. I happily passed their Dessert Options and settle for their Lava Cake (from their à la carte Menu); except, my Dessert called for a scoop of Stout Ice Cream that I honestly didn't care for and specifically mentioned to Liz to please leave out and substitute with Chocolate. Great. She complied....But, then the Lava Cake came with the Stout Ice Cream- that I initially didn't want. Could I have avoided all this and scraped the Stout Ice Cream and settled for a dessert that I wasn't going to enjoy? Absolutely not. I asked for Liz to come by our table and mentioned (again) that I didn't want the Stout Ice Cream. She apologized endlessly for the mishap and I finally received my Lava Cake with a Chocolate scoop. To end, Liz apologized again and didn't include a set of our cocktails and the Lava Cake. I was satisfied with their decision, seriously- not because we got two free drinks and a dessert- on the house, but primarily because Liz acknowledged her mistake. Listen if I take off one star for this, one star for that, it'll be ugly---- and I won't do that. This restaurant was such a great convenience staying at Emerson resort and spa. Their menu had a decent variety of food to choose from. Entrées that you would find at a fine dining restaurant. I was very happy with the choices on the menu. The food was delicious and decent size portions. They also offer a kids menu. Making a reservation was easy and the staff were lovely to deal with. We were guess at the Emerson and we were able to bring our dog to dinner which was a bonus for us since we don't do that often. The restaurant is beautiful, and very clean. The grounds are stunning and I am definitely looking forward to going in the summer months to enjoy what the restaurant and the views have to offer. Will most definitely be going back. We used to go here quite a bit for happy hour. The bar menu was great! The service when it was tori or James was always a good time. We went in yesterday and we're very disappointed. Totally changed the menu. There were some great unique items on the bar menu but now it is very limited. We had a cheese platter. It was ok but $18 for a tiny wedge of Brie and 4 slices of other cheese. They used to have other items like pate , chicken wings, sliders a fantastic chicken sandwich. I don't know what happened. Not the same. Very disappointing. The problem with these businesses is they cater to the tourists and not the locals who would go on a regular basis but prices prohibit that. We got a last minute reservation at Woodnotes on a Friday night. From the moment we stepped into the establishment, the experience was exceptional. I have to say it was better than many many restaurants we have dined in Manhattan. Personally, I believe a excellent FOH team makes a huge difference and Woodnotes did not disappoint. It really exceeded my expectation. We had the little neck clams steamed in ale as appetizer. They were some of the freshest and tastiest clams I've ever had! I was drinking the broth by the spoonful.. I had the 12 oz. NY Strip steak ($26). It was a huge piece of quality meat. A bit overdone but still flavorful and juicy. Bf had the trout which he loved but I thought it was overly seasoned. Their drink menu was extensive. I tried the red sangria from the "summer drink manual", it was excellent. There was complexity to the flavor (citronreau?) and was very very tasty. I would go back just for this! Oh, and they do have a spacious and beautiful bar area where you can just pop in for a few. We skipped desserts because they ran out of creme brûlée (happened to be one of my favs) and frankly we were stuffed. Service was exceptional. I don't remember Woodnotes Grille in great detail, but I definitely had a good time here. I came with a big group for a wedding after party, on the very late end of a Saturday night. We had the whole place to ourselves--I think it must have been reserved--with food out to snack on and diligent bartenders at our service. The place was a bit hard to find (or maybe not! who knows!), behind one of a couple entrances to a big hotel--I think we parked in the wrong lot at first. It was a spacious bar, comfortable and attractive, and the bartenders were friendly. I know this because one of them looked Korean, and in my cups, I started a conversation in which I told him over and over, "I knew you were fucking Korean." Could probably have done without the profanity, but hey, it was cool seeing another Korean in random town, New York. He also made excellent drinks, though I was responsible and didn't get one for myself. My husband was impressed with his Manhattan, though, and I tried a sip and enjoyed it. We stayed for a while hanging out and making merry with the bride and groom. It was a fun night all around, and I'm glad we got to savor it a bit longer with this visit to Woodnotes Grille. read more

We've been fans of Woodnotes Grille from it's inception, through it's ups and downs. Unfortunately, this last meal was definitely in the 'downs.' It was a take-out order, so I'm willing to give a little, as things can get soggy over time and in transport. The potato leek soup was delicious, but that's hard to screw up. The spinach salad was indeed quite tasty, though the greens were limp and needed a refresh of ice cold water to perk them up. The dressing was way too sweet. My husband had their standard chicken entree which used to come with a breast and thigh served airline style with wonderfully crisp skin. We've noticed the portions getting smaller and smaller and last night it arrived as only a breast and the skin was not crisp. I ordered the salmon which had a bad odor, tasted a little off and was served skin-side up, a current trend with fish, usually unattractive, but should only be used when the skin is crisp, which this wasn't. The rice timbale was gummy and green and tasted awful. I threw it away after one bite. Maybe there's a new chef getting his footing, I don't know. We may give it another try, maybe not. read more

Believe it or not, the restaurant inside the well known and "fancy" Emerson is a hidden gem! If locals only knew it is cheaper than Brios AND you can enjoy your meal looking out upon the river rushing by; inside or out. If the Phoenicia Diner is too loud or too crowded, they can seat large groups there as well. I'm a regular for breakfast there, where I can order a carafe of coffee, have wonderful service with their sparse and lovely staff, and still, did I say, it's less expensive than anything else around! I withheld 1 star because the dinner menu has always been stodgy, heavy, (1 year they had THREE stews!) and rarely had simple fish or lean protein dishes. Seems like they have more variety and attention paid to the drink menu than to the dinner menu. It's also when it feels a bit stuffy; the staff in polo (??!!!) shirts, and so quiet, especially when the music goes out. So, go for breakfast! read more

All three times the food quality was top-notch and service wonderful. The pork chop was the most moist and tender that we've ever had, but its hard to name one dish as our favorite as they were all so good! 10/10. read more

This restaurant blew me away. Every detail is perfect; decor, food and service. Right off RTE 28 in Mr Temper so if you are in the neighborhood you must stop here. Our appetizers were 5 stars, the scallops and fish cakes. For dinner we had the salmon and grouper bouillabaisse. For drinks we had a local dry Riesling and a hard cider. Reached here one hour 40 mins before closing however we have been denied seating saying kitchen is closing in 10 mins and there is only one server available to serve. We tried booking restaurant by calling however no one picked our call. I don't understand how these guys are managing such a big restaurant with only one server. Disappointed!!! read more

stayed at the emerson so are here on our first night for its convenience: the restaurant is in a nice spot right near the river. the ambiance is lodgy, nice but casual. the food was ok. i certainly wouldn't rave about it. but it was good and not having to drive while you're on vacation and having a drink has to be considered as a nice add to the experience. so if you're staying at the emerson i'd say give it a try. if not you can probably find finer cuisine nearby, ps also did breakfast here. can't really br too good or bad with eggs. read more

Fantastic breakfast find!! My husband and I have been going to the Catskills area for a handful of years, but we're still trying to figure out our go-to places when it comes to food. Several of our friends recommended the Phoenicia Diner, so on our most recent trip just this past weekend, my husband and I decided to go there for our first breakfast. Although the food was good (hard to go wrong with yogurt and eggs...), I just wasn't in to the scene...WAY too crowded. I really needed to find another breakfast stop, and thankfully, with the help of online reviews and a convenient location to where we were staying, we tried out Woodnotes Grille. At first glance, Woodnotes Grille can appear upscale in a pretentious way - being in the Emerson Resort & Spa and boasting such beautiful decor. But my husband and I were greeted with such friendliness, placed right by the fire place, and we quickly felt at ease, especially when our waitress, Consuelo, came over. We ordered two coffees, the yogurt with egg whites on the side, and the Big Boy, and it all came out to be $25...score! All-in-all, the service was outstanding, the food was delicious, the setting awesome, and it's so well-priced. We are absolutely making this out go-to breakfast spot - no more crazy diner stuff! read more

I stayed at the attached Emerson Resort and Spa for two days and visited the WoodNotes Grille twice during my stay. As with most hotel restaurants,they're often underutilized. The dining room was beautiful with its centerpiece, a toasty fireplace, modern lighting, but warm and comfortable seating and view of the Esopus Creek. The staff is just super; I had two servers and both were charming, knew the menu well and handled me and my demanding cousin rather well. With my professional culinary background, I tend to pelt my servers w questions. They handled them w grace. The food came out and was picturesque. It was evident that it was prepared by someone who cared. Breakfast was perfect and dinner - didn't suck! We used the spa at the resort one afternoon and didn't feel like heading out, and no regrets. This place nailed it. Give it a shot. I'd describe the cuisine as farm to table American regional. So.... we came to the resort for a birthday weekend and we enjoyed this restaurant both dinners and breakfasts. The bar here is so cozy and warm. The restaurant staff are amazing. Greg (the manager) is doing a great job by either hiring the good ones or just giving them the right training. I understand hospitality etc and every restaurant speaks hospitality, but let me tell you something- this place knows what hospitality is! Wyatt and Paul (the waiters) are simply great! Attentive, friendly, welcoming. Do yourself a favor and do not skip their pancakes for breakfast. The BEST ones I ever had- smooth and fluffy. I am going to order bunch to take home with me! I took my family to The Emerson for a Mothers Day weekend getaway. We had our first meal at Woodnotes. The menu was chock full of beautiful dishes, most of them featuring awesome local ingredients I wasn't even aware of. My favorite was the Beaverkill Trout (Sourced less than 10 miles away) served over a white bean tomato stew. Just wonderfully delicate and delicious. My wife had grilled salmon served with spaetzel and some of the best German style red cabbage I have ever tasted. The bar had a truly amazing list of choices...including absinthe for those of you who indulge in such rare spirits. While the food service and drink was absolutely flawless, the only thing that kept them out of the 5 star range, for me, was that the pace of the meal was pretty slow. I love a leisurely meal and am typically fine with it, but this was beyond. Wouldn't stop me from returning...as I'm still dreaming of the beautiful asparagus with lemon and smoked egg yolk....
