Woodnotes Grill is on site. We went for a LIGHT dinner because we got in late. That night we had salads and lots of veg because we were spa-ing it up all weekend we wanted to be a little healthy. You can screw up a salad but these folks did it right. We had all three lol I would try them if I were you. Also, while it was an appetizer it was enough! We went for breakfast in the morning....my mom had the omlete, sister had something else (lol I forget)...but I had the scrambled eggs with turkey sausage, home fries and toast. Home fries were blah....but the home made turkey sausage was GREAT!!! And I am not a bread person but the bread was FRESHLY BAKED, it had a slight touch of honey to it that made it BEYOND. The Emerson in general is a beautiful location. Woodnotes is warm and inviting, but the food consistently fails. Charcuterie board, for $18, could have been a bit more plentiful...esp the amount of bread provided. The burger was RARE, when I specifically asked for medium well. It was supposed to come with carmelized onions....not so. They were fried! Calamari is better at a chain restaurant....it is always over fried. The Catskills is a hidden culinary gem, however, don't let woodnotes grille taint your perception. We have given this place business over the years as they open the same place with a different name, but shame on us because the results are the same... over priced and dissatisfied. Wings taste just like frozen oven wings from a box store (slimy and tasteless), worst overdone calamari we have ever had, and the chicken and dumplings??! I don't think they have a right calling that chicken and dumplings. We live and love the Catskills, go explore elsewhere and find one of the many gems in the area! read more

I've been to Woodnotes Grille for brunch maybe six times or so. The food is good, though the service can range from fine or to very poor. The last time we were there, so many things went wrong -- it was like a sitcom episode. After being shown to our table, it took 20 minutes for anyone to come by. The three of us asked for coffee, and that took a while to get. We then placed our order, two of us wanting pancakes with fruit on top and one an omelet. We then waited, and waited, and waited, watching food arrive at tables who had been seated after us. When we asked where our food was, we were told that it would be another few minutes, that the kitchen was backed up. I am pretty sure our order was never placed, because it 30 minutes before any other food arrived--the omelet and only one of the pancake orders. The person who brought the food didn't know that an order was missing, so we called over our waitress to ask about the missing pancake order. Again we were told it was about to come out, but of course it didn't. We then complained to someone else, and that after a few minutes someone came out with a stack of pancakes, a bowl of fruit on the side (not the kind you put on pancakes), with no syrup or butter, Before the server disappeared before we told someone else to take it back and give us the correct serving with fruit and syrup, a someone else who seemed not to understand why we were sending it back. It took another 10 minutes for the pancake order to finally arrive. While someone kept coming around with coffee on a regular basis, we had to ask for water three times. I know our waitress was not very efficient, but there also seem to be problem with the kitchen and the other staff. We did get comped for the late-arriving pancake order, but next time we go there, I am going to quicker to complain to a manager if something goes wrong, not merely listen to mumbled apologies. read more

The menu had two pages of food selections and 6 of beverages. Bison meatloaf was dry and could have been used on the ice at MSG. The roasted vegetables were a nice assortment and tasted good but were soggy and the portion was very small. Chicken pot pie was essentially a stew over seasoned with thyme with a flaky pop over on top. Mashed potatoes were just ok. Key lime cheese cake was an individual circular portion that seemed to have been previously frozen. The staff was very attentive and friendly and the restaurant was beautifully appointed. Would be so nice if they could step up the food choices and quality of taste. The Emerson Resort and Spa is top notch the restaurant needs to tweak themselves read more

We came here for our anniversary as we were staying at the Inn. Had a few drinks at the bar and ordered the cheese plate which contained local cheeses and was delicious. No problems when we asked for more bread. Nice wine pour. For dinner we each had the steak entree, which was cooked perfectly, and no worries that I asked for no potato and extra veggies. Stopped at the Emerson for a quick hamburger with my sister.What a dissapointment! Ordered our burgers rare and were told we didn't have the option to choose the temperature. Large burger was two thin patties,Small was one patty. both well done..Reminiscent of White Towers burgers but without the flavor.The place was about one third full.Service friendly but waiter never got back to us.Asked for no cheese.Got the velveeta like goop anyway. Probably the classiest restaurant in the area! Beautiful decor with a great bar! The bartender, Tori, was very nice and offered many of her own opinions, which I always appreciate. Ate here on a Sunday night which is prime rib special night! The cheese plate exceeded expectations and the Woodnotes and Caesar salads were both delicious! The prime rib was delicious and included the Caesar salad and an apple crisp dessert. Lots of other great options on the menu to look forward to! read more

My boyfriend brought me to Emerson for my birthday and our experience at Woodnotes has been impressive and wonderful. Greg was the first person I met when I went to the bar to order a drink. I was amazed by the Japanese whiskey selection and we fell easily into conversation about their varieties. It turned out Greg is the food and b create director and his care of everyone's experience in a laid back and comfortable setting was appreciated and impressive. The fondu is a MUST MUST MUST. We almost ordered two. And the green bean appetizer is next best. We went with the local caught trout. I really liked that they had Spetzle with another dish and I was so appreciative that they could add it to my dish. (My grandmother used to make it) Elizabeth our waitress was super friendly and helpful. We kept changing our minds about my 'surprise' birthday desert and both the brownie Sunday and flower less chocolate cake where delicious and Enjoying them by the fire pit made it an extra special birthday experience. While spending the night at Emerson we decided to eat at Woodnotes since it is so convenient. We made a reservation as suggested since it was a holiday weekend and were seated right away. The service was fantastic, even servers not assigned to our table offered to top off our waters and clear plates. The poutine app was good but our entrees were the stars. The prime rib special had nice flavor and the trout with smoked salmon hash and carrots was SO good, minus a few bones. We also shared the flourless chocolate cake which was totally awesome! The prices weren't bad compared to the good quality food and drinks we had. While I wasn't a fan of the resort, I would definitely stop in for another meal here! read more

The food wasn't that good , especially for the price . The service & food get 3 stars. I ordered this mushroom app, it was really dry & not that tasty. Main coarse I ordered the steak. That was OK, still didn't match up to the environment of the place. The mashed potatoes were good. We also ordered a salad and it was horrible . They focused on this weird stacking of lettuce appearance, when the salad it self tasted like plain lettuce with a drop of blue cheese. Over all, this place isn't worth it . Almost killed my boyfriend on CHRISTMAS! We ordered our meals from here despite our hesitation after reading awful reviews about poor service and not great food (They were really the only place open on Christmas after a giant storm). We were reassured that the berries my boyfriend is deathly allergic to would be in a separate box, but the bartender said he would add an extra note just in case. When returning to the place we were staying, after a storm that knocked out power and WiFi, if I had not noticed that there were in fact strawberries all over the dessert, my boyfriend would have had some, and gone into a coma with no way of contacting anyone to help him. I was very upset by this. I couldn't let it go considering it would have killed him and it was Christmas. When we went to the Emerson the next day, no staff member seemed to care enough to do anything. It was Saturday at 4, Christmas weekend and apparently there were no mangers at the restaurant or hotel, which living in the New York City area, is really hard to believe. So they did nothing. We left our information and were told that a manager would call us first thing Sunday, but it is now 7 p.m. and we have heard nothing. So apparently almost killing someone from your lack of care doesn't require follow up or anything really. We had a fantastic time at other resorts and plenty of other food spots in this area. The worst meal we both had was from the Emerson. Judging from the lack of anyone at the restaurant on Christmas, we should have known. I had a grey pork chop that I instantly threw out and my boyfriend besides the death berries had chicken that just wasn't eatable. Just finished our meal at Beekman Tavern and would go back over and over again. Emerson literally has no customer service ethics or any actual value to their establishment. Do not stay or eat here. Message me for other suggestions that won't leave your family members almost dead on a holiday. read more

Gorgeous! Amazing staff. Really cool vibe with a sexy bar. Open for Breakfast and Dinner with happy hour specials, open mike on Tuesday evening, and bar food. You gotta check this place out!!! My husband and I dinned here and we were honestly shocked by how good it was. We sat in the dining area which was so lovely. Our waitress for the evening, Olivia, was so sweet and very friendly. She was attentive to us even though her section was full and there wasn't any rush or any waiting, it was truly relaxing. We started off with drinks. I ordered my drink of choice a Cosmo which was PERFECT. Just the right amount strong and my husband surprisingly ordered a Daiquiri which he loved. Our drinks were so good we actually ended up ordering a second round. We were immediately presented with warm delicious dinner rolls and whipped butter. Our waitress even helped my husband and I decide on our main courses for that evening. I ordered the Steak and my husband opted for the Burger. When I tell you that each bite got better and better it truly did. The steak was cooked exactly how I like it (Medium) and very juicy. My roasted garlic mashed potatoes that came with it were super yummy and very flavorful and my broccoli rabe was a great addition to the plate. My husband said the burger was really good and juicy as well. I actually remember him saying "I really appreciate the ration of cheese to beef on this one..." LOL ?!?!? He also really liked the fact that it came with charred onions and not raw ones too. We were really happy being there if you can't tell. I'm not one to "gass-up" a place if they don't deserve it but, this place really does. It's a must try. Really beautiful restaurant with delicious food. The waitstaff is very professional and attentive - I don't have a bad thing to say here. I had a pasta dish that was on special for the evening and it was very flavorful. Our table of 6 couldn't have been happier. There was a hiccup in service at the beginning of the night, but it was a packed house so that's to be expected. The entire Emerson redesign is nothing short of striking. I frequent the area on weekends and will be sure to bring all of my guests here. I'd say Peekamoose and Woodnotes are the two best restaurants in the area. Woodnotes might have a slight edge because of the outdoor tables overlooking the river. It's unfortunate one of the reviewers here can't comprehend how greens + sausage is a classic pairing and docks a star because the restaurant doesn't have a return policy on their food. Unbelievable. Yelp should tweak their algorithms to filter out brash idiots. read more

I've been going to this place for quite a while now. Originally because it's really close to where I live, repeatedly because it's THAT good. They have a large variety of dishes to try. My mom and I often go for two appetizers each. Last night was just such an occasion. I had a farro and chick pea salad that had a dollop lemon yogurt on top. Very good and quite filling. Mom had the bibb lettuce salad with fresh peas and a delicious tarragon dressing. We both followed that with a roasted artichoke. OMG...yummy! The atmosphere is wonderful and the service is impeccable. The manger came over last night (having recognized us a repeat customers) and we had a lovely chat about how nice things are. Ow and his plans for the future. Looking forward to a warm evening when we can eat outside with our doggie. (Yes, pet friendly) On Thursdays they have an oyster special. We've been there for that as well and were not disappointed. The oysters were fat and fresh! We shall return Oh, and the bar is beautiful and comfortable for drinking and/or eating. read more

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Emerson because I got married close by, and many of our relatives stayed here. We also have had nothing but gracious, classy experiences, we are glad that we know this place exists! Our dinner was DELICIOUS (lava cake couldn't be beat, and my husband raved about his osso bucco). However, id make one (very significant) recommendation to the managers and owners: staff your restaurant better. Your employees are super harried and stressed and it's not their fault that things are overrun and understaffed. For example, our bartender made a full TRAY of complicated drinks before he could even attend to us. Again, not his fault, but if his managers were more generous and forward-thinking, they'd realize it's worth it to have extra hands. It makes staff happier, it makes patrons want to come back because they're being served well...everyone wins! We will be back, but hopefully they will fix this. Also, the hostess was kind of rude in basically telling us we were doomed for not having a reservation.....especially since there were several tables by the bar that were open. had a lovely dinner at woodnotes last night. food is never spectacular, but good home cooking, and presented as such. our waitress was lovely and attentive. however, two things for management to consider. the moment we walked into the restaurant, we noticed that the lights were glaringly lit, unlike the normal romantic moody lighting we've been used to and enjoy. we were told that management wanted it that way. don't know the rationale, but it's harsh. second, there were 2 tables that had dirtty dishes on them when we arrived and were never cleared by anyone. they may have been short staffed, but if each waiter took a dish or two on their way back to the station, it would have solved the problem. kinda tacky to leave these tables uncleared. read more

food is amazing! the elk ossobucco was stupendous. my wife ordered the cauliflower gratin, which is like Mac and cheese sans the pasta (amazing, and fewer carbs!). the woodnotes salad is dressed in this delicious dressing, I'd go for it if you're hesitant that it's just a regular salad. and dessert? wonderful. But the service could have been faster. it seems like they were one waiter or waitress short. I think they need to be better about their staffing when they see a lot of reservations happening for a night (it was packed). read more

My spouse and I discovered Woodnotes in the past year. It's become one of our favorite restaurants in the area. We have been coming in for dinner regularly on weekends since the new manager Luke joined a few months back. The main reason is since then they have elevated the menu with new dishes. The food has become really distinctive. It's a seasonal menu that incorporates local ingredients and appeals to a wide range of tastes - from light and vegetarian to rich and meaty. They have more traditional and creative dishes - from house-smoked short ribs to specials like a poke bowl. They clearly focus on high quality ingredients and preparation. I imagine that they will continue to innovate and keep the menu fresh and interesting. Bar and drinks are great with a nice rotation of local craft brews. Service is super friendly, warm, and attentive. The space is light and open. There's also fantastic outdoors, streamside dining in the warmer months. Woodnotes should be a go-to whether you live or vacation in the area. read more

If it were possible I wouldn't give this place shit for Stars considering we did not even have a meal here. I'll preface this by saying at the time my girlfriend and I were staying at the Emerson resort and spa in a stream side suite and the accommodations were fantastic. Comfortable clean rooms with a fantastic view of the esopus creek right out your back door. However, the vibe of the restaurant was not even moderately welcoming, which well, resulted in us getting the fuck up and going down the street to tavern 214. Upon walking into the woodnotes grill we were greeted with a snide look and I'm not sure if we have a table set for you in a nearly empty restaurant. Way To not make a young couple feel welcome. Once we were seated the feelings of unease sank in and we decided to leave drive and drive two miles down the road where we had a beer wonderful meal in a friendly atmosphere. So if your staying at the Emerson do yourself a favor and drive the fuck away from their snobby unwelcoming restaurant. read more

I went here for breakfast. Had the chicken and waffle dish with a side of home fries. It was delicious, though the waffle was not as crisp as I like. The home fries were from scratch and were great. Plenty of food for me. Loved the tray of mini condiments (including a 1/8oz bottle of Tabasco). Great service as well. read more
