We left BJ's Steakhouse because the service was soooo doggone HORRIBLE. We tried a few other spots but the general busy-ness and overpacked crowds had us too scared to grub. Woodson's was number #4 on our list and we went on a whim. I came away UN-impressed, UN-satified and some worse feelings. The server was cool beans (ESPECIALLY considering we left BJ's for crappy service) but in hindsight, I just shocked by the transition from BAD service to REGULAR service. She checked on us, made sure we were good before leaving and sounded somewhat knowledgeable about the menu and alternatives. SHE was not the problem. SHE helped with standard, run-of-the-mill, waiter service. The FOOD dropped the score. My wife and I experimented by tasting the kids' orders. ‍ Noooooo. Where is the seasoning? Why is it so almost-colder-than-lukewarm? These are freaking tater tots bro. I need them HOT so they last a little awhile. Bring 'em cool, cold or lukewarm and they are NOT edible in a few minutes. Besides the food being UN-seasoned? Being lukewarm? Out of five orders, THREE "appetizers", ZERO, NAN, NONE "were actually eaten. We're a party of five and nobody thought the food was good enough to finish their plate. Did we take to-go plates? Heck yes because the kids gotta finish theirs. THAT brings me to another detail. Bathrooms. If you're familiar with MY reviews, you know I'm disabled AF, 100% wheelchair bound, my Multiple Sclerosis drastically reduces control of my left arm AND I'm prone to violent needs for restrooms. The cleanliness of an establishment is HUUUUGE to people like me. *ahem* We had to leave EARLY, from a perfectly AVERAGE meal so my daughters could use the restroom. We went to WAL-MART! Maaaaaaaan, from the whispers between my 6th grade girl and 2nd grade girl, it was beyond nasty. OMG. We burned rubber on gambled on Wal-Mart. Yikes! I can't remember our waiters name, but she was the sweetest! It was my husbands & i first time dining at this restaurant. The atmosphere was calm for how busy it was, drinks & food came fast, the waiter was very attentive. My husband ordered the Shrimp alfredo & i ordered a Magnolia Baked-Potato! Never disappointed great service great food! My only complaint is it can get pretty packed on the weekends because it is so popular so get there early. Our daughter loves Woodson's. She graduated from HS last weekend. I contacted one of the managers (Heather)at Woodson's. I inquired about have her graduation lunch celebration at the Woodson's on 1488. It would be 13 people, we wanted appetizers and waters on the table when we arrived. Woodson's doesn't know if it's a bar or a restaurant. And while many establishments would flounder with this kind of identity crisis, Woodson's instead gives you the best of both worlds. The beer menu here is one of the best around with a couple dozen craft beers on tap. Wide variety with porters, nitros, IPAs, ambers, and witbiers and most of them very good. The liquor selection however is standard, and don't expect cocktails beyond a simple liquor/mixer/garnish combination. The food is typical bar food: giant pretzels, nachos, wings, fries and mac & cheese loaded with every imaginable topping, etc. So yes it's fatty and greasy and generally not good for you. But it's also real yummy. Higher quality than usual for bars. If you want you can opt for the healthier items like the grilled chicken and vegetables. But I advise against it. Come here to get what they do best. I like chicken wings personally so this is where I come for them. Note: none of the wings, even the "hot" ones, have much heat to them. But they compensate with good flavor. The service is always spot on whenever I come. No matter how crowded it is the bartenders and servers are attentive and constantly moving. Everyone I've interacted with has been exceptionally nice as well. And while not a breasturant per se the staff is all female, young, and pretty. Do with that information what you will. It's located in a small strip of shops. It has an outdoor area with some games. The inside is nice. There is a large bar in the middle with high and low tables surround it on all sides. There wasn't a wait despite the large crowd already there so seating is ample. The menu all looked inviting, but we came for burgers, so that's what we ordered. I had the Hangover which has a fried egg on top. My wife ordered the Woodson burger. Pieces of the burger alone were daily bland, but mixed together in the burger they were delightful. The fries were also very good and the ranch dressing was delicious. I also went for the beer. They were out of a few I wanted to try, but I was able to get a Negative Space by 11 Below and a Pussalia from Brash Brewery (a couple Houston breweries). Both were good. It was pretty dead... only one other family. Our server was PHENOMENAL. We asked about menu items and she was very honest and forthcoming about what to order and even what NOT to order. She recommended the pretzel for appetizer. I'm not a big pretzel person but went with her recommendation. It was a HUGE pretzel. Between my hubby and I, we were not able to finish even half. However, the taste was great! We asked for entree suggestions. She recommended some of her personal favorites as well as what they were known for. My hubby got the Woodson's burger and really enjoyed it. I went against her recommendation and got grilled chicken and Mac and cheese. I personally didn't care for the Mac and cheese. My chicken didn't taste bad but was SUPER cold. I did not complain, just ate as much as I could. When she returned she asked how I liked it and I shared it was cold. She told the manager and had my meal comped (which I was t expecting or asking for). However, I was a little surprised that the manager didn't come talk to us himself. Overall, I think it could be a good place. However the menu selections were t really something I personally was in love with. Honestly, I loved this place, but this review is solely based on my experience today. I came in with my puppy, sat him on the patio, then went inside and had not 1, not 2, but 3 EMPLOYEES WALK RIGHT PAST ME AT THE HOST STAND. So, I walked up to the bartender(who was delightful) and asked if I could be served on the patio. She assured me that a server would be out there to help me. I walked back out and sat with my dog. After 20 minutes and no one coming out I got up and left. It's extremely frustrating that out of the few restaurants with outside seating This happened. I have been in the service industry a long time and I'm no stranger to the excitement of being "cut" from my shift, but there has to be a level of respect for your patrons that would like to eat at your establishment. Food was average..nothing outstanding. Refilled drinks but zero ice and it was warm inside. When checks arrived, mine was wrong...not charged for drink but it was on another tab. We have been coming to Woodson's periodically since it opened. Since we are usually here during happy hour, we have been more than pleased to just have apps and drinks. Nice vibe and decor. Nothing fancy. I could do without all the TV's, but then, I'm not a huge sports fan either. It looks like they did a menu revamp, and I'm sad that they took the FGT's (Fried Green Tomatoes) off. We went to Woodson's for dinner. I had no idea what to expect, but when we walked into the restaurant everyone was so nice and friendly. Their bar is a huge rectangular bar with TV's everywhere.
