Woody's is an Atlanta institution, having been here since 1975. Its popularity, even in the middle of the night, it's a clear testament to the status that Woody's achieved. Its corner shack is gradually becoming a relic from a different time as the area surrounding the Beltline gets built up and transformed. So, how about that cheesesteak? Let's start with the bread itself. Calling it bread would be a stretch by any measure as it's a stretchy creation that is more reminiscent of bubble gum than bread. Looking through older photos on Yelp, it seems they may have changed the bread used for the sandwiches when Woody's assumed new ownership. The cheesesteak filling inside is well proportioned to the volume of bread and not bad at all. As a whole, it works: the sandwich stays together and is not a bad meal at an iconic Atlanta joint. Folks in the kitchen do wear gloves, although the cleanliness overall does not look great with lots of stuff on the floor. But, coming here at 1am, it's really not the time to be complaining about such matters. So, if hunger strikes at night or a desire appears to experience a meal from Atlanta's history, Woody's is probably the way to go.

This is your sign to go to Woody's and order the Italian sub! Quite possibly the best sub in Atlanta. Service is quick and the outdoor patio is perfect on a nice day!

I'm not sure what happened this trip. The only thing to compliment was the Super fast service. To do you in, the meat had an odd, somewhat hint of liver flavor. I happens to like liver, just not on my Philly. This was definitely NOT their normal seasoned beef. Since I made the considerable trip to midtown and was already home, when diving in, it seemed pointless to turn around. Sighs...$15 - down the tube! Thus, I cannot say I was pleased on this trip!

I got takeout from here after reading good reviews. I got a regular cheesesteak with american cheese, added cheese whiz, mushrooms & peppers. I was a little disappointed though. I thought the mushrooms & peppers could've been cooked more. The bread & meat was good though. Decent price for the portion. Around $13. The way it was double wrapped in paper & foil kept it warm until I got home to eat it. I'd probably not come back though.

We stopped by for lunch because the Eagles won the Super Bowl and my wife in the past had been to Pat's and Gino's in Philly.I had only been to Philly connection in Ga by comparison. The mushroom cheesesteak I got was fresh off the grill and delicious! The service was quick and the young workers friendly. They serve beer and dessert too. Ambiance was casual with a nice deck. They blare an old Atlanta radio station 99x which was cool. We loved the cheesesteaks !

This place had amazingly good cheesesteaks. Yum! Definitely recommend. Service was ehhhhh and ambiance was whatever (kind of a smaller hole in the wall setting with some seating), and not too welcoming, but the food makes it worth the stop.

Well when you walk up,gonna kinda look like a hole in the wall place. A very small place with indoor and out door eating area. Im not gonna lie. I set on the inside and it was muggy hot. But hey we are in the south, thats just how it is.I walked up to the counter and placed my order. I settled on a italian sausage with onions and peppers. A bag of voodo chips and a tea. The guy behind the counter informed it would be about 11-13 minutes for my sandwitch. No problem and took a seat. A very short while later i was called to the counter to pick up my food. I hadn't even bit into the sandwitch yet and i knew it was gonna be good. Why, cause i was eating the onions and bell pepper stuck to the inside wrapper and it was good. The italian sausage and peppers were spot on. Im not gonna lie. Im sitting here thinking about trying a cheese steak too. But then they do offer ice cream and shakes. Im definitely gonna come back...yes i ended up with a pb shake.

    Bogus online order fee.
    Richard D.

Went to place a $21 order by phone and was told they could not take a phone order over $20. I told them I wanted to place the phone order so I didn't have to pay the $1 online order fee. I got hung up on (or disconnected - most likely the former). I went ahead and placed the order online because my wife was really looking forward to one of their cheese steaks this afternoon. Why are they forcing the customer to pay the $1 service charge for an online order when they refuse a phone order and redirect you to use their online ordering portal? This is completely bogus. They're the ones that are refusing to take the phone order. The online portal saves them time and is more efficient, yet the consumer is charged for the so-called "convenience". We will not be ordering from there again.

This place is reasonable on your pockets and food is good. The cheese steak sandwiches are delicious and so are the Italian subs! Plenty of cheese, mushrooms and onions. I enjoyed my food .

I will always love these cheesesteaks until the day I die. The service was good and the food was ready fast. Also has a super cool dining area.

I started my last Yelp review in 2016 of the famed Varsity in Atlanta by saying "What can you say…read moreabout an Atlanta institution that has been in business for more than nine decades?" The answer now, as then, is "What'll ya have?"? Of course you have to get a couple of hot dogs with chili and cole slaw, with a side of fresh chopped onions and some mustard to add to the heart burn. Some onion rings, and a Frosted Orange (ust get one, it's big enough to share with your spouse or sweetheart.) The Varsity claims to be the largest drive-in in the country, if not the world. Maybe it is. It covers two city blocks, seats 800 inside and has space for hundreds of cars. It now has eight locations around Georgia, some of them spic 'n span new, but my heart will always be on North Street in Atlanta, where the restaurant had its start in 1928. Some things have changed. Prices are up. The people that take your order seem a little more patient. And no longer are there special lines for women (and the Athens location, now closed} doesn't have to 'splain anymore why women aren't allowed inside.

You'll need to add some salt, but they're not bad. The rest of the food was awful. AWFUL. The frozen orange tastes like medicine. The chili dog was overcooked. And the chili hamburger is an abomination that should not exist. Think a combination of a crappy hamburger and the worst sloppy joe you've ever had. I just assume this place has to be trading off a nostalgia. The service was slow to the point of indifferent. Many of the tables are dirty. But, it's huge enough that you'll probably be able to find a clean table. What'll ya have? How about some syrup of ipecac.

My food was prepared quickly, and the wait was minimal. The hot dogs were flavorful and tasted good--while I wouldn't describe them as exceptional, I was not disappointed with the taste. My biggest concern was the cleanliness of the establishment. Unfortunately, once I looked beyond the counter, I noticed what appeared to be significant buildup of grease, dirt, and grime on the floors, walls, and areas surrounding where the food is prepared. The condition of the space was alarming and gave the impression that deep cleaning and maintenance have been neglected for a very long time. I had already placed my order and didn't want to cancel, but the unsanitary appearance made it difficult to enjoy the experience. It also left me questioning how the location maintains its posted health inspection rating. The food itself was fine, and the staff member was pleasant, but the overall cleanliness of the facility is a serious issue that management should address immediately. One additional note: the hot dogs seemed somewhat overpriced for their size. While the flavor was good, the portion-to-price ratio did not feel like a great value. Based on my experience, I would return only if there were clear improvements to the cleanliness and upkeep of the restaurant.

Instead the first thing she said was - it'll be a 10 minute wait. It wasn't clear why she said that - the time to cook or fry my food? Before you can take my order? What's 10 minutes in the big picture when I'm in a food hall and could easily walk away. We stayed and took our buzzer that alerts you when the order is up. I informed the cook - don't say anything about 10 minutes to wait, just take the order. It's not welcoming and everyone knows food needs to be prepared. Aside from that, we had a great visit and enjoyed the food.

I ordered the potato dog, half mozza/half hot dog, and a cheddar dog. Now these K-dogs are huge! If I had known how big they were, I would have just ordered one. The potato dog is fried batter with pieces of potato and a wiener on the inside. If they had seasoned the batter, I would have enjoyed this so much more. Half mozzarella, half dog was really cheesy and good. It was like a giant mozzarella stick. I would definitely get this again except without the hotdog. I didn't care for the taste of the dogs. The cheddar dog was also very cheesy and good. They do give you the option to roll it in sugar, if you want. I really wish I had requested to one rolled in crushed flamin hot cheetos. All in all, the food was different from what I usually get but I'm so glad I tried it. If I ever find myself back here, I'm definitely getting the premium hot dog rolled in the flaming hot Cheetos.

It's in a food hall so where it's at you have free parking. It's a really nice building and it looks like it was a food hall building that won some awards for aesthetics so it's very nice to look at. You'll come in and there's nobody to greet you, but there are people walking around and people behind the stalls and you have plenty of options to pick from. And it's kind of a multi-room situation because one part of the establishment has a lot of the food hall stalls and the other part of it has a couple stalls, some rooms you can probably reserve, and a very large bar. They have plenty of specials on some signage screens so if you go in just be aware of that. They have events like happy hour and music being played on a live situation and some other thing so just keep that in mind. Anyway, specifically about the hot dog situation, I ordered and got a beeper when it was ready. I got it and it was okay. It seemed like it was more chilly than it was dog. And because I'm from Michigan, I'm very critical on what a Coney dog should be like. Do you want the hot dog to be covered but not drowned in the chili. So not that it's bad but as you can guess this got pretty messy LOL. I thought it was tasty. It's not like home but it was pretty good. When I try other hot dogs from there, I would actually. I definitely would. It was a pretty good experience because I got the wok and see what other places were there so that was nice. But I had to do the Coney because it reminded me a little bit of home LOL.
