This place is huge and loud! Make sure you are ready to take on bright lights and lots of loud toys and kids! If you have kids, this place would be a blast. The good news is that there is a bar and lots of places to wash your hands. I was here for my nephew's birthday and they severed pizza, it was okay. On the way out of the door I saw someone eating a philly cheesesteak and it looked so good, I almost walked back inside to order one. I would be interested to see what others thought! read more

Was here on 11/30 for the slick Willy's go cart, had not many issues until came time for the final race when the workers were just allowing people to act as if it's bumper cars and go against any other policy, had children full speed plowing into you (my back has bruises and marks on it from constantly slamming around in the plastic seat) they need their workers to actually pay attention and enforce the rules, as if not it ruins it for everyone else involved. Also they were not following the age rule as we (adults) were racing with children under 12 in the adult carts. Giving kids that age (especially ones that parents clearly don't discipline) an adult cart is just beyond stupid. Needs better management honestly read more

Great customer service and good food but can't advocate for highly inflated prices because it's in arcade setting , pretty unethical. The pizzas were so small and cost double what they should. They tasted good , very think and decent flavor , we tried all of them. The nachos were good , we tried them with pulled pork and with chicken. I liked the pulled pork a lot more but they didn't have enough meat on top. I wouldn't come back here , just finish your games and go somewhere else to get better food with reasonable prices. read more

The works has of the best arcades i've been to! All the games are new and some i've never seen before! Theres a card system where you add money to it with cash or card and then swipe it at each game station so very up to date! Theres lots of different basketball hoop games, claws, racing, air hockey, and coin fall machines. Also a rubber axe throw game which i've never seen before. You get token points when you win games and you can redeem them for prizes at the desk! Theres even a photobooth which i loved And old skool pinball machines too. I want to try out the go karts next! They look really good. Went to the bar at the front for a drink afterwards. Bartender was really nice and friendly, made me a non alcoholic cocktail which was delicious! I can't comment on the food as i didn't eat here and im also vegan and there looked to be only vegetarian options. Glad to have found a local place to have some fun! read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! I came here with the two of my kids and while they were away I was going to get a drink or two and a snack at the bar. This bar was semi busy but not to the point where it was out of control. I sat at the bar and was helped by a guy named Terry. Let me tell you he provided the worse service I have ever had. I couldn't tell you on how bad I really feel for his coworkers. He was so disordered and when he got a chance he would go on his phone or disappear for 5-8 minutes. I sat with an empty glass for a while. What also made me not like the way how he works is that he made me two of the same drinks and they both tasted different. How can you make the same drink and make them taste different?? If you're a bartender you should know how to pour and make the same drink taste the same. We bought 2 go cart races. Girl behind the counter told us to come back to the track area at 9:30 for the 2nd race. We showed up 10 mins early and she said they were closed and no more races. Literally DO NOT VISIT!! I grew up in this area and always loved the works growing up. I currently live in philly so 4 of us took the 1.5 hour trip to visit. Website says they close at 11. We got reservations for 8pm. We sat at our table and waited until 9:15pm for our food. The food was basic bar food but priced like a 4 star dining establishment. My mac and cheese tasted as if it sat under the heat lamp for at least 20 min. It was crusted over and hard. The wings barely had any sauce on them. We finished up at the table at 9:35pm. We headed into the arcade to buy credits and the front desk woman said "we close in 5minutes". It was literally 9:35pm. They said no we don't close at 11, we close at 10. Ok whatever, but then at least allow us to play until 10. We went over to the go karts because they say 11pm as well online. They said no, we close at 10pm and we're not taking anymore guests. One of the worst experiences I've had at an establishment like this, half of everything was closed, rock wall half demolished, ball pit closed, trampoline park closed, the arcade was packed! Like unplayable packed, we registered and paid for go carts, and as soon as we paid she said "oh it's an hour wait by the way" okay no big deal we go to the bar to get something to snack on, order fries and proceed to wait 40 minutes for them all for us to cancel the order because we had no time, then going back to the go karts they told us another 45 min! The obvious comparison here is Dave & Busters, but a tad more conservative. There's the full service restaurant and bar area, then an entire wing dedicated to games and such. Sadly. the game room closes early on weekdays. There's trivia on Tuesday nights that a bunch of my friends have been attending. One night we wanted to play some games afterwards, but already at around 9, everything in the game room was shut down. Such poppy cock. So yeah, not quite on the same level as D&B, since the restaurant and games are way more incorporated there. If you come to the Works on a weekday night, its best to view this place simply as a restaurant. Only on the weekends do the bar and game room stay open late. There's one big downside here when it comes to dining - food timing is HORRIBLY off. Entrees come out as you're taking your first two or three bites into your salad or appetizer. It creates a huge cluster f&#@ on the table, and you'll quickly run out of room as food runners relentlessly bring out apps, soups, salads, and entrees in rapid succession. The other downside with the food is the quality itself. One one hand. some dishes defied expectations, like the pizza. One pizza for about $10 is more than enough for two people. And the quality exceeded anything most chains can churn out. But on the other hand, some dishes fell completely flat. Exhibit A: the wings. Great size, but size (as I've learned) doesn't matter. The skin isn't crispy at all, and the meat has that under-cooked, slimy, wet texture. The pot stickers were actually quite similar in that regard, except the slimy, wet texture was on the outside. Really just a mushy, flavorless disaster. Sadly, no grand old time can be had here, as the elephant in the room is the sub-par food quality, and anything notable in this establishment leans to the right - walk through the doors, walk down the corridor to the right, bypass the restaurant, and just drink and play games. Overall, it just isn't worth the money, and if you come here, your wallet will surely be seeing red. The left, where the restaurant lies, seems to be mistreated and neglected. The owner should do more to try to appease both sides and try to better balance the food and the entertainment. read more

FOOD: I ordered a chicken ciabatta and my girlfriend ordered the Philly. The Philly was ok, she's a big fan of cheesesteak's and has yet to find a good one in Reading unfortunately, this one didn't make it on the list. Let me start off by saying that I could barely cut my sandwich without making a mess because the avocado was so incredibly underripe, the knife would not cut through them. I don't have any idea what made them think it was even slightly ok to put that avocado on a sandwich. You could tell the avocado was forced and cut out of its peel because it had sharp edges, also the skin from the put was still on the inside meaning it was stuck on there. I was so upset because I love avocados, this was honestly embarrassing for them. I didn't bother to send it back because it took forever for them to bring it in the first place. I just should've known better from a place like this. DRINKS: We each ordered a mojito which was basically just sugar & like juice. No alcohol whatsoever AMBIANCE: The restaurant portion of The Works is insanely large. Almost too big honestly. I can't imagine this place ever being full. This is a really cool space- and a great way to reuse an existing building that was not being used for any particular purpose- a smaller version of Dave and Busters with a humongous jungle gym enclosure that toddlers and big kids alike can play in! The kids can gather foam balls and load them into the ball launcher and have them pop out of the designated areas around the cage. It was great for the parents to have the kids contained while we sit back and have some cocktails. The food is just ok, and there are lots of items that caters to kids palettes, it's a bit overpriced for being out in the suburbs though. Downstairs there is a nice arcade where there are games and a prize counter to trade in tickets for little plastic trinkets. Connected next door is a go cart track which we can't wait to try when our littles get old enough to do it. Our family had a nice time here! read more

They shut the games down at least 30 minutes before their posted "closing time", so keep that in mind when visiting. Games are overpriced for what they are and more often than not, many are out of order or just turned off. This place used to be great years ago, not sure what happened. I'll admit it, I'm a Works fan. I'm surprised that I haven't already written a review for it since I love going here. Speaking only from my experiences as an adult, you can have a lot of fun. The go-kart track is a lot of fun, though a bit short. They'll give you a few laps around the track at varying speeds. Pray that you'll have a forgiving attendant who will let you "bump and rub" other cars on the track. The guys who take it more seriously will shut you down or worse, slow you down. I love the games that are here. They have a good amount of arcade games. They also have a nice amount of games that you can win tickets on. There is enough attractions there to encourage interactions with any company that you may bring. There's enough there to entertain kids but also comfortable for adults to go without kids. The flow is well done with the big attractions on the perimeter and the games in the middle. What I did like about the place is the fact that the games are maintained well. Older arcade games are definitely not showing their age. I don't think I ever seen a game out of order here. My biggest complaint with the arcade is the prize center, after going to the prize center at Dave and Busters or Round 1, this one is lacking, there are a lot of prizes for kids as there should be but adult prizes are lacking. Wednesday is the best day to go for arcade games they are half price. The food is average, nothing great, but nothing horrible either. It is the same quality as a Red Robin or Chili's. I would give 3.5 stars, but they are worth the round up to 4. read more

Was here on a Thursday evening for a small group dinner "meeting"(there were 11 of us). We met at 6pm, it took awhile until our orders were placed (ok, not too big of a deal). We asked for the checks around 7:30. We all used cards, and it took at least 20 minutes for her to come back and hand them back. She seemed to avoid our group, our food was delivered by other staff and she didn't come back for awhile to make sure we had everything. They automatically included 18% gratuity (luckily for her!) My family started a night out a few months ago. We started going to the works. My wife would meet us there after work. We would spend about a grand each month between all of us. Recently my son found a way to even the odds on the claw machine through manipulating the claw. Last night he won a few items in the claw machines. He probably spent a hundred or two, but he did win. My wife thought she saw a billboard stating the works was half price games on Thursday. My son stopped in to check it it was true. The manager ACCUSED MY SON OF TEAMING UP WITH AN EMPLOYEE ANF STEALING FROM THEM. The manager deactivated my sons card. My son had upwards of 75,000 tickets accumulated on his card. My son proved he could work the claw machine, and retrieved a basketball from one infront of the manager. The manager refused to apologize or reactivate my sons card, thereby STEALING the available tickets. TONIGHT WILL BE THE LAST TIME I OR MY FAMILY WILL BE AT THE WORKS. If you think about it, my extended family numbers just under 100 individuals, plus anyone that reads this and doesn't want to be ACCUSED of being a THEIF if they win on rigged machines, is a lot of dollars lost. read more

I decided to take my nieces (6 & 7) out for a quick day of fun and this is the perfect place for that. We dined in the restuarant first, it was about lunch time, and not very busy. I can say the food came out VERY fast, along with properly prepared and everything tasted pretty good. The kid meals were on the larger side, so they were pretty full when they were done. When it came to the waitress, she was not very talkative, never got us refills on drinks, and just brought the check without ever asking if we wanted dessert or anything else. We went to the arcade next...I feel they have a good selection of games, my nieces were having a ball of fun running from game to game. Overall I feel the pricing is pretty fair for "tokens". The game area is fun. The games are a bit overpriced. I'd rather go to Chuck E. Cheese to get more bang for my buck. Speaking of Chuck E. Cheese, the food there is better. The food here is awful and expensive for the crappy quality. I've never been more disappointed in a meal. The kids meals are good but how can you mess up chicken tenders and fries? I packed up the large portion of food my kids didn't finish in a to-go box. (They were to eager to play, didn't eat much) I told a server that I was going to leave the box on the table so I could take my kid to the bathroom (didn't want them to throw it out and I didn't wanna take food into the bathroom).. I came back within 5 minutes and they still threw it away. Wasted my money on mediocre food that got thrown away and my kids were pissed they couldn't finish their leftovers. Never again. read more

The Works is a smaller version of Dave and Busters, but lacking the edge for which DnB is known for. It's not bad, but not really all that amazing either. I've been going here maybe once or twice a year since 2001. For what it is, the Works' arcade is decent. A small selection of traditional arcade games mixed in with some money sucking ticket machines. Don't even bother doing the math on the ticket prizes. If you stop to really look into how much money you've spent to claim a prize you'll discover you've paid 4 or 5 times as much for it as you could have gotten on Amazon. The problem is that the variety in the arcade is kind of awful. Some of the machines shine, some which are just kind of "Well, this sucked 10 years ago, still sucks now!" (e.g. "Feed Big Bertha") and others are just in sad states of disrepair/upkeep (Time Crisis 3's screens are shot, as is Lost World's). I get the feeling the owner(s) really don't want to sink a lot of money into updating some of the games. As for the restaurant, the food is decent. Again, not bad, but not great. Just a lil' above average. Most of the issues could be resolved with some basic spices (of which many dishes are lacking). Our experiences have been mixed. Great service, and some that was appallingly bad (taking 20+ minutes to flag down a waitress for a refill). The Works could really be so much more than it is, so much better -- and it wouldn't even take much to get there. It just needs to push quality and service, invest a bit more into the arcade and food quality. It could be a great hangout for adults and kids alike. As it is, it's not bad, but there's really no reason to go back often. read more

No reception, no direction, no signage, crowded like a prepandemic beach bar on Friday, Works bar vacant so after waiting we go to bldg 24 bar, 20 minutes in line and not close to ordering, and this is where we are supposed to order food, non functional faucets in men's room. But for the office trivia the guy running it got multiple questions incorrect and I was able to show after the fact the correct answers. He told me that he has a sheet and I should argue with the internet. Incredibly rude. Apperantly this isn't the first time this guy had done a poor job. This is not a good look. I know trivia is.... Was just there this evening (4-1-2017) Food was horrible. And poorly timed. Took forever to get to order, drinks and food. I'll take into account that it's Saturday night. But, it was still alittle overboard. We ordered the homemade tater tots, the chicken bacon ranch ones. They tasted like frozen hash browns molded into balls. As for the chicken and bacon? Nonexistent. You did get ranch to dip it in. Ordered NY strip with 2 sides of Caesar salad and asparagus. Also added some "grilled" shrimp. Took forever to get my salad. When it arrived, after only several minutes, the rest of the meal came out (had to hold the salad so I had a place for the meal). Steak was cold - not luke warm - cold. I'm in for steak with garlic butter melted over top, but not when the steak is cold and the butter doesn't even melt. As for the sides, when you say grilled shrimp, then grill it - don't steam it or microwave it. Shrimp was cold as well, along with the asparagus, which tasted as if it was barely cooked. Quite a few of us ordered the steak and shrimp. All of them were cold. The plates weren't even hot, as they should have been if they were under a heat lamp. When a complaint was made to the waitress about the several cold steaks, she asked how we would like it heated, in the microwave or on the grill? We decided it was better to try an eat it then have it "angrily" reheated. I was done after about 4 bites of the steak and shrimp, it was not sitting well. When it was time for the bill, there was no compensation for the horrible food, not that we were looking for it. No manager came to touch base with us. And, while I don't place all the blame on the waitress, the excuse of "well, you are a large party" (15 of us - we had reservations) was as poor as the food quality. So, $20 bucks for 4 bites of a cold steak. Even though the racing was a blast and we have money on our account cards, I'm definitely not making the drive to go back anytime soon. read more
