We booked a candle making session for a team of 19. It was so fun and relaxing, everyone had so much fun getting creative with the scents & color mixing! We were able to make 2 candles each and depending on how you want to style it some coworkers did an ombré effect or mixed scents & added floral toppings that were available. Last year we did a woodworking workshop & it was a bit too difficult/long so I was worried a few of us would not like this event but it was so easy it was relaxing and everyone was able to get in their zone. It was really nice to see the work team bring their creative sides out! Also, we made memories that we'll never forget. Thank you Bea for your exceptional service and dedication, you made the event memorable & fun! IRARRRRRR

This place is awesome. Me and a bestie went this evening for the "Beginner's Watercolor: Night Sky, Galaxy, And Deep Space" class. Neither of us had much experience with watercolors, but the instructor, Becca, gave a quick introduction to color theory and demo of the basic techniques before turning us loose to begin creating our own. It was super fun experimenting with different color combos and methods for adding stars and sparkles. Two hours flew by fast, and the outcomes were beautiful. Great way to spend an evening with a good friend or on your own. I'll be back for sure!

Have taken 3 of Hayley's sewing classes so far, and I highly recommend if you're trying to learn! She's so helpful, and makes the class super fun, plus you get to make fun things to bring home. Definitely recommend the sewing bootcamp! I've learned so much, and now feel comfortable enough to explore making new things on my own.

Wreath Season!

I am so happy to have found this place. A friend and I went to the wreath making class and it was a blast. Our instructor wasn't just knowledgeable but easy to understand. The class time was spot on for our project and you can BYOB. I am 100% going back.

This is one of my favorite spots in SF. I have been here a lot, including for first Friday (haven't been in 2023 yet because somehow I'm always traveling on the first), water marbling, leather making (wallets), and watercolor for beginning: Galaxy and night sky paint night (for my birthday). The last 3 were literally once a week for 3 weeks in a row. The formal classes are 2 hours, with about 45-60 min teaching followed by an hour of making our craft. I will say I wish we had more than an hour (or a bit shorter teaching). Regardless, all the instructors are absolutely amazing and I'm going to keep coming back

Workshop SF's sewing bootcamp 101 class is the best value for money class I've EVER taken in San Francisco. I learned so much and felt so accomplished by the end of the day with 4 pieces we created on the sewing machine. Hayley is an incredible teacher. I've already recommended the class to all of my friends. It's no wonder the class sells out so quickly every time!

Had a great watercolor class at workshop SF! Really cute studio space with a restroom, good quality supplies provided and a really fun and friendly instructor Becca. Would definitely recommend and will be back to try another class!

The full-day workshop has us learn multiple techniques--zipper installation, button, and drawstring.

I've taken 2 sewing workshops at Workshop SF and really enjoyed the course (clearly enough to take two). I feel like I've gained a life long hobby and useful skill. Haley, the instructor, is a pro-teacher. She's really attentive and skilled enough to quickly recognize where you've went astray. In addition, all of my classmates have been friendly and outgoing. I felt I had a lot of creative freedom in trying a different stitch pattern and there are many fun fabric choices. I'd definitely recommend trying out a course! I really enjoy using the tote bag I've made and I'm excited to tackle new projects (having recently purchased a sewing machine!).

My project
Jenn R.

Cute concept but when I heard how much it cost... I was a bit shocked! I got invited to a team bonding event here. We got to build a plant on a wood plank. We didn't get to pick the plant so I was stuck with a fern. I also felt super rushed when I was building my project. I didn't have super clear direction and was a bit disappointed on how my project came out. It isn't tilted upward like the instructor's. I like that I was able to pick a wood plank, but I wish we had time to stain it before working on the plant project. It would be more aesthetically pleasing to hang up in our homes. It would look more professional rather than a DIY rookie project. Now I have a greater respect for these items that I see at Anthropologie. I would gladly pay the price because at least their product is beautiful. Not so sure about my project?!? Perhaps I have to come back for another class, but if it costs more than me buying the project made already then I may not.

This place is only school SF without the price tag. The teachers, classes and attention to detail is unlike anything I've seen.

Say YES to WorkshopSF classes...CUSTOMIZE, CUSTOMIZE CUSTOMIZE!! I took the soy candle making class and yes it is the best intro class to the DIY. The class was great. The teacher really enjoyed her trade and made class FUN. The people that attend the workshop are great also. I did not think I would talk to anyone but I did. Fun is the only adjective that I will be submissive to in 2019. Thank you WorkshopSF. I will sign up for many more classes in the future. I will definitely take another soy candle making class again once mine burn out.

Kokedama

Came here for a kokedama workshop. Upon entrance, the friendly instructor said that since the class was 21+, we could feel free to grab drinks at the store across from the workshop if was wanted . The vibes were clearly laid back and the whole crowd was friendly. We each created one small and one large kokedama, with an array of plants to choose from. The instructor gave clear instructions and offered plenty of help and guidance, as well as after care tips. I was pretty excited to take home my end product. Hopefully I can keep them alive...

Beer Workshop by Chris
Stefanie C.

I recently attended the legendary Beer Bootcamp, taught by Chris Cohen. And just when I thought I couldn't appreciate beer any more than I already do! The class involved learning about and sampling 12 different beers from around the world, though I think "sampling" is a huge understatement. Chris is insanely knowledgeable in everything there is to know about beer, from its history to its subtleties. I was surprised to discover that my favorite beer of the evening was NOT the IPA but instead the Hoegaarden Belgian Wit. All of the excitement over learning made three hours go by very fast. One piece of feedback that I have is that Chris is clearly qualified to teach this course but is also not much of a public speaker... which is totally fine because he's still personable, but allow me to suggest something like Toastmasters to take his audience engagement skills to the next level. I found it difficult to get through the first 15-20 minutes of Chris getting warmed up, but he found his rhythm eventually. Overall I had such a great time and would highly recommend this workshop to my fellow beer enthusiasts!

Every week she learns something new: new styles, materials, and techniques. Sometimes they focus on painting, other times on sculpture or different forms of art. Katia and Sara have both been her teachers, and she has felt happy and supported with all of them. Like with many activities at this age, it took a couple of weeks for her to fully adjust and feel familiar with the environment but consistency made a big difference. As parents, we appreciate seeing her come home excited and proud of what she created. It is easy to notice how much she has progressed over time and we get very excited when we see her project. We also appreciate the communication style of the school. They provide a high-level overview each week of what the kids will be working on, which keeps parents informed without overwhelming us with too much information. On the administrative side, tuition payments and renewals are simple, and the staff has always been friendly and helpful whenever we have had questions or needed help resolving any mistakes on our part. We also love the location. Depending on the day and who is with me, it is easy to wait nearby at the library, a coffee shop, or a restaurant while class is in session.

For a long time, I've made art but struggled with feeling like what I was doing was really creative. Michael, the owner and instructor at the studio, has transformed the way I think about the creative process through the avenue of figure drawing. His classes are the most meaningful part of my week. If you're looking for an instructional class focused on technique for drawing more accurately, this may not be the right place for you. Instead, the classes offer a new connected way of living--engaged with beauty both around you and internal to you. So much of the class is about unlearning not just how you draw but also how you value the creative process. It is the most challenging class I've ever taken and there's no amount of brute force I can apply to get it other than trusting the process and the instructor. Nonetheless, as frustrating as it is, there's nothing else I do that is more rewarding. It takes a lot of effort to strip away your aesthetic value system to get at the core of what you find beautiful, but if the result is a more meaningful existence, then that investment is priceless. Some practical aspects of the instructional sessions. Michael strives to provide only the best models to inspire you not to capture their poses but to feel something in yourself. The medium is stick charcoal and newsprint is available cheaply at the studio. The class is a lengthy commitment of 20 weeks of three-hour sessions but is highly structured and builds on successive lessons. Michael also allows you to make-up classes. Although there is a high upfront cost, for the hours of instruction and model time spread out over the weeks, it's a steal.

Each class is thoughtfully structured into two parts -- drawing/painting and then clay molding -- which keeps the kids engaged and excited. The mix of ages has also been wonderful, as our daughter (one of the youngest) learns so much from watching the older students. Im off to college now but I will always be back to visit. A huge part of why I love this place is so much is because of the teacher, Julia. She is the most supportive and kindest people I have ever met. She will give you the best advice on how to approach a drawing and she knows exactly how to help you grow as an artist. She celebrates every little improvement and reminds you that mistakes are just part of the process. Over the many years I have been at this studio, I have learned so many new techniques. But most importantly, I learned to believe in myself because Julia always believed in me, even when I doubted myself. One of my favorite memories is of a black and white drawing I did of a girl. I was scared to start it at first because I didn't have the confidence. I didn't think I was capable of making it look good but Julia encouraged me to just try it because she believed I could. I trusted her and I'm so glad I did because that drawing turned out amazing. It's one of my favorite pieces to this day. I'm so grateful for everything Julia has done for me. Thank you for believing in me and helping me grow. You've made such a big difference in my life. Truly the best teacher and friend I could ever ask for. I love you so much Julia.

She did the same 6 weeks later. OMG, so helpful to keep me going and manage the overwhelm. As the date grew nearer, she started leading more to ensure we took care of those horrible details (seating charts, signage, communication with vendors, table set ups, and the timeline, etc).
