Bought myself a screenprinting class here for my birthday. It was great! Amanda ran us through the basics from burning the screen to pulling prints, and we had plenty of time to practice - I came away with a bushel of thsirts, notebooks, prints, etc. Of course, 3 hours flew by way too fast, I could've stayed for a few more. read more

I took the Camershop SF (Demystifying your DSLR) with Kurt Manley (www.kurtmanley.com) and had a great experience. Kurt's got a ton of experience in all kinds of photography, and really helped me connect the dots between theory and practical application in taking better photos with my DSLR. Until I took this class, I didn't know what aperture, shutters speed, metering or ISO meant, and now I've got a pretty good idea what those things do for photos, and how to use them to take better pics. I'd recommend this class to anyone looking to develop as a photographer. Personally, I'm very inexperienced, so just about all of the material was new to me. If you're an intermediate level photographer (every studied it) some of the coursework might be remedial, but still a good refresher. Best for beginners, I think. I love this place....I was there on opening day and i'm not sure why but it too me about a year to come back and take a class..... It was beyond great! I took screen printing for newbies with Nicole and she was super awesome and funny too. I came here with a group of 8 for a wine kit making class. It was our dear friend's birthday and the whole Idea of a bunch of winos making wine was an entertaining thought. We were greeted by Scott our instructor he came with a fairly good resume. He apparently won a gold medal for some wine he made and also writes a blog for 7x7 mag. He was as informative as he could be teaching this class. We didn't actually make wine but he did go through the steps of wine kit making and we had a lot of fun doing so. We did bottle and cork our own wine which was the best part. We got to try some of the wines he made and they were pretty darn good. I would come back here for some of the other classes. Parking was a lot easier than I expected but I can see how it can be frustrating. read more

I've been on the email list for Workshop for ages, totally support what they do, but wasn't able to take a class until recently. I signed up for sewing 101 and now I'm hooked! Thanks to their introductory class, I got over my sewing phobia, borrowed my mom's machine, and have been practicing on small projects. I look forward to advancing to sewing 102! Definitely check out their calendar for a little DIY fun. They have lots of cool classes at reasonable prices, and it only takes a couple of hours to learn a new skill or make something fun! read more

I took a sewing 101 class at workshop after first reading about their classes here. I always wanted to know how to use a sewing machine and I wanted to acquire some basic hand tools. Boy did I! Kelly, one of the co-owners, taught the class and she was ferociously fun, upbeat and knowledgeable. I had a great time at my first class and learned so much (at the right pace) that I went out and bought a sewing machine and signed up for another class. I love this place. I have attended floral design, indigo dye, iPhone photography and now candle making. I brought a 21 person team here for an outing. We did candle making and we had a blast. It was just long enough for everyone to stay busy and we all left with two candles. This place is the BEST! Being a super busy admin, I found this place to book a small team offsite and the team LOVED it! Hayley was a dream to work with! She was extremely responsive and accommodating to my Director's last minute meeting space request. Not only did my team do screen printing AND Cocktails in the afternoon but WorkshopSF allowed us to rent their other studio space for our morning offsite meeting. HUGE help and time saver. Have only done one class so far (Sewing 101) but am excited to get back for more. Was a little nervous on my way to class but as soon as we walked in Kelly put us at ease immediately and it was so fun and she made everything seem so easy and actually made sewing cool - "grab a PBR when you're done with your beer koozy to make sure it fits" - how cool is that!? The space just breeds creativity - it's impossible to go there and not go home with your head swimming with new ideas. read more

I am a big fan of Workshop and all the events Kelly and DK put on. This place offers a super cool range of DIY inspired classes- Sewing for Dudes, Heavy Metal Aerobics, and more... awesome! I took the Ginger Beer Brewing class. It was fun and I learned exactly what I came for. Love that there are more and more brewing and cocktail making classes to come, even custom tea blending! I should note that I also teach a few classes here, 'Beauty School Rebel' and 'Leathers, Feathers & Chains'. We always have the best students!. Keep the Workshop LOVE going strong!!! Workshop SF is changing my life. I simply love the place. I have taken knitting and the terrarium class. I know sell terrariums and have made a lot of new friends. I even had a booth at the Indie Mart. Kelly Malone is changing the culture in San Francisco and bringing crafts, creativity and unique flare to the neighbourhood. I want to take every class! 3.5 after 2.5 days of strategy meetings we came here for a team off-site for the last half of the day the workshop booked was learning how to make cocktails cocktails -sloe gin fizz -basil lemon ginger beer bourbon -negroni spin called boulevardier all the cocktails were great and even got to sample figcello (like lemoncello)! it was delish i wish we got to learn more about which liquors work well together and which doesn't our teacher was a super rad irish chick that also owns a dive bar in the mission (i forgot what it was called) in the other room a screen printing class was being taught this place offered so many different classes.. i'd def come back read more

Took the plants class. The instructor was a lady who just moved to California and knew nothing about the habits of the plants here. She didn't even bother to Google the plant that we used in class. She recycled the old teaching material from back when she lived on the east coast. When questioned, she was rude and defensive. A super fun night making terrariums and we still get to drink! They provide everything and all the how tos...you can even buy PBR here while you work. The instructors are all really fun and very helpful. It's kind of like tinkering around in the garage with your friends at home. Me, my boyfriend and our +1 all loved our terrariums...unfortunately we are 0 for 3 on keeping our terrariums alive =(. The pickling class and the ginger beer class are probably my next ones. read more

I had SUCH a blast with Workshop's Camp DIY at Treasure Island Music Festival!! I'm not sure why I had never heard of Workshop before, but I'm so glad that I found their tent. Sadly, the felt pizza making party was over, so I had to settle for the flower crown workshop. Having made many plastic flower crowns in the past, you'd think that I would be "over it" because I'm not actually learning something new. But I did! For the flower crown workshop, we used real flowers / branches and the girls running the workshop gave us solid tips on how not to stab ourselves, how to bend the plants, etc. And I know this sound sooo stupid, but I'm one of the least craftiest people out there, so it was a huge help. I'm really excited to try out the other classes that they offer at their actual location. I have definitely tried doing DIY projects myself (making body chains, terrariums), but having to buy a ton of supplies is just a waste of money. Coming to Workshop to make the single terrarium or single piece of jewelry or whatever that I want is much easier than buying a huge set + tools that I'll never use again. My birthday's coming up soon and will definitely be checking out Workshop for some fun ideas with friends! read more

Great class for all levels and interests, and we had plenty of time to dig in and do whatever we liked. Plus we listened to 90's R&B and drank beers. My first class at Workshop SF was wonderful. I took the Knitters class for beginners with Becca, and the instruction couldn't have been better. The class size was small (8 of us), so she was able to work with each of us individually and work at our level/pace. The class came with all the materials you would need, and you take everything home with you to complete the craft. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who loves to craft and DIY. I love love love the concept and had an amazing class, and met great people. The entire class was well timed, and filled with great tips and resources. The only negative thing I have to bring up is the space. I get eclectic, but this is downright cluttered and dingy, and does not give the impression of a place where you would want to take part in any class where cleanliness would be an issue. I'll definitely be taking more classes here, but I hope they start to see what we see and get it cleaned up! read more

What a wonderful space this promises to be; I'm very jazzed by the class lineup that includes classes on screen printing, shrinky-dink jewelry (!!!) and mixology amongst other things. Kelly Malone is a patient teacher and made me feel comfortable and not at all the moron I assumed I would be, trying to learn something for which I have never had an aptitude. I was tasked to find a space for a creative department offsite for the ad agency I work at. I was so happy to find this space. Kelly was AMAZING and accommodating. We had a pretty small budget, but she really stretched it to the distance. She provided bar tenders and a dj as well as had all sorts of delicious snacks for us to munch on in addition to screenprinting stations. This place is totally great for a group function of 20-70 people. Kelly seriously rocks. read more

My mom likes to hem my jeans by making the largest stitches possible with mismatched colored thread... as a result, I have a small pile of brand new designer jeans collecting dust in my closet because I can't bear to let my mom ruin them, nor do I want to pay for a tailor. I've been making it my goal for years to pick up sewing well enough to do my own alterations but never followed through. Then I came upon Workshop and signed up for Sewing 101. It's $34 for a 3-hour class. The one-time class appeals to the commitophobe, but you come out of the class equipped with the basic knowledge to play around on a sewing machine on your own. The staff is chill, the whole place has a laid-back atmosphere, there were only 5 people in our class so we got help when we needed it, and it was totally easy to follow along and do the fun little projects. If you've ever vowed to try out a new hobby or skill but failed because of lack of time or resources--you have no excuse now that you've read about Workshop. read more

I recently took Rock'nRoll Sewing for Dudes class and had a great time. The other three guys and I had NEVER used a sewing machine before, but would you believe it, after two hours I actually feel like I can sew a little bit! I took the Beauty School Rebel class here and loved it! I found the perfect red for lips, lovely to have the opinion of a makeup artist to help me find it. Fox and Doll taught me how to do a cat eye, and after a few practice runs, I think I've got the hang of it. Having new makeup styles elevates my mood. Thank you! read more

Came here last Tuesday evening with a couple of my girls for Sewing 101. It was taught by Carmen who is super easy-going, down to earth and very personable. Two of us have never even touched a sewing machine and the other vaguely used the one she owns at home. Our class had 3 others besides us. It's great that the class is so small and intimate because Carmen was able to be totally hands-on with us and help each of us out whenever we needed help or got lost with something. We went home that night with our first completed sewing projects which consisted of a beer koozie and a sock monster. I was ecstatic to go home and show my daughter what I had made for her! (The beer koozie is now used as her doll's underwear instead of course.) We were so happy with our experience we are planning to come back soon for the screen-printing class and the quilting class. So I've taken another class (sewing 101) and signed up for two more- I really do enjoy coming here! The classes can be a little fast-paced (I was not so great at sewing) but it is a huge plus that they are small classes and the teachers are always helpful & great! Love that it is so close and located in an awesome room. I also realized that although $40 seemed like a lot.. they are usually three hour classes! Pretty justifiable. Love. Love, love, love, love, love. I took the beginning sewing class last week having never touched a machine before, and I never knew it could be so fun, easy, and un-grandma-ish. Carmen taught the class, and she is awesome. Between her beautiful tattoo art, laid back attitude, and whiskey sipping, stuffy old lady she is not. We made a beer koozie and sock monster, and now I'm just trying to figure out how to convince my husband to buy me a sewing machine for Christmas. I'm conspiring with a few friends to sign up for more classes, and the only tough part is what to choose. Cheese making? Pies in a jar? Quilting? All skills that I never knew I needed but now my life won't be complete without them. read more

I took the cheese making workshop. It was informative and the instructor had a lot of passion, commitment to local sourcing and knowledge of the process. What bothered me was that there were about 14 people in the class which seemed like too many for a hands-on workshop. Mostly we stood around and took turns doing what the instructor cued us to do. It ran late because we were doing two batches and we only got a tiny bit to take home and taste. On the whole, I don't think it was worth the price. Plus after standing all day for work, another two hours on my feet wasn't great. read more

I finally took my first workshop class after six months of talking about it, and I'm so glad I did. If you haven't been to the workshop, I highly recommend checking out their once a month Friday night open house. They have a local small brewer, delicious homemade pickles and a different food vendor every month. This will give you a nice overview of the classes they offer. You really get the feel of a neighborhood hangout. Okay, so onto the class. My boyfriend and I took a juicing class. It was a two hour class where we got an overview on blending and juicing. We received recipes and we're able to make several creations with our class. Candice our instructor was very knowledgeable. She answered all if our questions and gave us the tools we needed to feel comfortable to start juicing at home. I highly recommend signing up for their mailing list so you can stay in the loop.
